[Help Request] Porting Paranoid Android 4.2.2 - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I've taken more of an interest in paranoid android after using it on my nexus 7. It's a really well done rom and I would love to see a good, working version with Halo . I need help from other devs though to make this happen, particularly from Team Fah-Q since you guys have been doing most of the rom releases as of late.
To prove that I'm serious about porting the rom, I have a working copy of the 4.2.2 Paranoid Android sources that can successfully build a rom for the T-Mobile Galaxy S III.
Code:
Package complete: /home/fb/android/pa/work/out/target/product/d2tmo/pa_d2tmo-3.50-27MAY2013-224604.zip
4faabcb158018e30585c7cbc8f58e527 pa_d2tmo-3.50-27MAY2013-224604.zip
real 27m29.268s
user 53m1.703s
sys 2m55.455s
With a good kernel and device tree we can have a mostly bug free rom. Erik has been making great strides in getting rid of the 4.2.2 bugs for CM10.1. Other roms can benefit from those fixes.
Thanks in advance Team Fah-Q and other devs who are willing to help.

What r ur current PA bugs? I have a pa 4.2.2 build but unstable as it was a quicj build lol
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app

I haven't tried adding your device and kernel trees yet, I've only built for the d2tmo. It was kind of a hassle downloading a good PA repo that didn't have failing repos.
I'll try adding the device and kernel trees you have on your github and give an sgs4g build a shot, though it might not happen until Thursday when I'll have more time.

Hey bro Ive been using this all day, settings-->display works fine for me... actually I haven't had a single FC yet. Solid build for the first day. Tablet ui and DPI are a little wonky, hard to get it right... but I can't expect it to be PA right? Lol. Good job bro

Thanks for the share.. works great.
Congrats on the release!
EDIT: To fix LED notification, replace lights.c in device/htc/msm8960-common/liblights/ with this one:
https://raw.github.com/AOKP/android_device_htc_msm8960-common/jb/liblights/lights.c
The one that comes in the CM device tree doesn't work with anything besides CM, it seems, so I fixed it for AOKP/my other ROMs and that same lights.c file should work for this ROM as well.

Man... rohans a nice freakin guy... thanks for that info rohan! That's one thing thats been bugging the hell out of me with these ROMs.. never fails, when I wake up and see no red light in the morning when I know its plugged in, I freaks me out and think its done for.. (maybe if I stop flashing so much I wouldn't have anything to be paranoid about huh)

Is there a reason group messaging was removed between RC7 and RC9 for LS? I flashed from RebelMod to this and it appears group messaging has disappeared.
Edit: Actually, it looks like just the option is removed, but it is still converting group messages to MMS as before.
so guys, is the rom all good and working for you?

Don't believe the OP is a member of Liquid so it will likely stay unofficial. Think you might be confused with beta and stable since unofficial or official has nothing to do with stability.

if the ROM is working decently, and isn't plagued with too many issues - we will change it from Unofficial to Official.

[ROM] AOKP JB MR1 4.2.1 Unofficial Nightlies (1/21/13) DISCONTINUED

AOKP JB-MR1 Unofficial Nightlies for the Grouper
What is it?
A pure, untampered with AOKP Nightly based on Google's Android OS 4.2.1 direct from source, compiled by myself and uploaded for your pleasure.
Unless noted otherwise, these are straight merged nightlies from AOKP's github.
What's the difference between a nightly, a milestone, and a PUB release?
A nightly is only the officially merged changes to AOKP, added whenever it passes review codes and tests, as the changes come. A Milestone release is whenever there are enough significant changes to the ROM to where the AOKP team decides it is time to officially publish it and showcase it, and a PUB (Project Unicorn Butter) release is from a member of Team AOKP that adds different changes that haven't officially been merged yet. While most of the time these changes are considered stable, they have not been officially checked off yet.
Why?
Why not? I started compiling them for myself and decided to share with whomever also wanted the latest and greatest, free of buzz words and hype.
Changelog
Can be found Here
These nightlies will ONLY work on the ASUS Nexus 7 (Grouper), flashing these will require a custom recovery, for your sake I hope you are on the latest either CWM or TWRP2. If not on the latest recovery you will receive the 0/0/0/0 folder error, I personally recommend TWRP2 as you can queue up multiple files to flash at once.
The gapps package I recommend using can be found at this link, gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip
The usual disclaimers and everything else still apply, so if you install this on a non Grouper tablet, please don't blame me.
gapps flashing is still required, and I recommend nexus louder beta and franco kernel.

HTC and Sprint, for taking such a long time to put gingerbread on my Evo 4G and pushing me to root
Myn, for his amazing Evo ROMs, showing me how beautiful a custom ROM could be
If you're enjoying the nightlies feel free to comment, ask a question, or hit the thanks button!

OK, These are straight compiles from merges to source, no cherry picks but I will update daily. I can take no credit for the development of this rom, I am merely a compiler. If you want a changelog, check the AOKP Gerrit @ http://gerrit.sudoservers.com/#/q/status:merged,n,z. I compile for this and Maguro, for my personal use, but considering how often I would scour goo.im I figure I might as well share since I know the woes of being a crack flasher. These things take a couple hours to clobber, sync, compile, then upload, so hopefully by me doing this, this lets the real dev talent focus on making advancements to the source vs having to push nightlies to people such as myself that likes to keep real fresh (under 24 hrs fresh). I am aware of how much of a process it can be just to find a same day nightly, let alone making one, that is why I am sharing with the community.
Enjoy!

Thx for the builds, without cherry picking.
Any difference between your builds and DizzyThermal nightly?
Discontinued
Shouldn't be, those are the ones I was running before I decided to start compiling for myself. I'd see something in the merge that was added after his compile that I would want, and instead of checking back all day to see if another build was up I decided it would be less stress to just go ahead and do it myself. Recompiling after clobbering and compiling is pretty quick compared to waiting for a day

No problem! I'm glad someone else can get use out of these besides myself! I crack flash daily and always want the latest and greatest. I keep my eyes on the github and don't clobber until the next day so a build WILL come quicker later in the day if something juicy comes up in the merges
No new merges since I published yesterday's nightly. I will hold off publishing another nightly until tomorrow night in case there is something that will be merged. For those who want to still be on the latest, regardless of changes, I will still publish tomorrow.

Our next goal is to put together a build machine, and we need your help. Why do we need a server? Well, a few reasons. The first is the most obvious - we'd like to build more frequently and need the hardware to support it. That means drive space and speed. The more of each we have, the more we can say "hey let's crank out a build," and throw it up on goo so you see an update in goomanager. Right now, building is a pretty intensive all-day process. The second reason is stability. Building from a development machine means that the environment itself is less stable. This translates into, again, fewer builds and more work to make them. Faster building means we can build for more devices, too. All this free time means we can do more cool stuff. We've got a lot of great ideas coming, and every bit of time we can get to work on them means a better rom for you. If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

This release is built from CarbonDEV's source on there github, with some changes to get it to build for evita. InflatedTitan's port on Kole_Ackerson thread is a dirty port using a evita rom as base (liquidsmooth i believe) and coping over the files for carbonROM from another device. Nothing against InflatedTitan. But source built roms usually have fewer bugs and are a much cleaner "port"

Do you mind posting a link to the kernel? The one I saw on the other thread is for 4.1 android ROMs only...
I am dying to a try a different kernel as this stock kernel has a lot of stutter. Everything else seems to work great though.

Just keep in mind that kernel has the "ear pushes buttons while on a call" problem, so you may finish up a call and find your ear has been doing things to your phone while you were taking.

One trick to that is just to tap your power button once you're in the call, that way it turns your screen off.

Could I have some clarification on some things?
From a framework/basic structure/whatever level, how is this ROM different from the other similar 4.2.2 AOSP based ROMs, most of which have very similar features? I've always wondered what – if anything – at the base level is unique between such ROMs.
Just wondering cause I've tried a few other of the feature-heavy AOSP-based ROMs and most of the features seem very similar.

Thanks! When I use this kernel and toggle "disable HW overlays" in developer options, everything is very smooth (without that toggle it's the same as the stock kernel - jittery). I am running at 1134/192, and it's very smooth.

Good question! From what I understand, this particular ROM has superior battery life when compared to other aosp based ROMs like cm10.1. So I'd be very curious to know as well.

Re: [ROM][AOSP] CarbonRom 1.6 unoffical JB 4.2.2 [evita]
So I've noticed a couple of glitches with the gallery. Firstly it wouldn't show any media whatsoever, reboot fixed that. Then when trying to open it, it kept telling me "unfortunately gallery has stopped", and a reboot seems to have fixed that. Other than those small issues this ROM seems to be running quite well.

Nobody is responsible in your actions with your phone! Everything you do at your own risk!
Hello everyone!I am looking for developers, and idealists in the care and creating a full flash based-based CyanogenMod 7.x!
I think that CM7.x is the most stable firmware for our phone, all other versions (CM9-CM11), they are not suitable for everyday use!

i think it's the worst idea
cm 7 is bassed on android 4.0.4 can't support new games and programes and aslo cm themes and when we port it (IF WE )
it will be FULL of bugs and the kernal will be 3.x the same as we porting it
so let's port cm 10.2 bassed on 4.3 will unlock new drivers and performance improved and other things
so waiting is the best solution for cm 10.2 while we porting it , cm 10.1.2 will finshed of bugs

CM 7 is Android 2.3.7 but it does not 4.0.4! Essentially all of this is true, but, for our better devaysa SM7 will not, other versions SM9-CM11 is not for the weak of our devices!
Please!

Guys , please , tell some respect to the [DEVELOPER] not because he did something , but he is working on , to bring the best performance .
He's working on this , he had chosen this ROM , surely there's a reason behind that!
Tell some respect , rather than SPAMMING , contribute
I'm with CM7.x , if you port it , that'd be great !
Thanks :highfive:
