Like Google Play store and all the other perks of Android? With all the jailbreaking/PS3 hacks now a days and the ability to run OtherOS(Linux) on any custom firmware is it possible? What a way to breath fresh new life into the PS3 lol. I know the PS3 runs some crazy hardware so it's probably not possible. I apologize if the threads been made and I was just curious. Anyways here's some links I found

i dont think its possible anymore. After that big hacking scandal on psn, sony created an update that stops people from installing other os's on it.
Yeah it does work "in" a ps3 through virtual box , but since Sony removed OtherOS from settings you can't install it anymore , but I think you can restore OtherOS if you have 3.55 firmware

Now the PS3's can run CFW custom firmware where you can use the OtherOS. They(PS3 hacking community) also have a hack where you can downgrade your firmware to run OtherOS as well. My question is that if you can run Linux is it possible to run an Android build off of that? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks for reply.

Im such a tech tard can you kindly explain what a "virtual box" is? And would a stable Android build even be usable if you could get it to work(Google Play and so forth)?

Im sure this question has been asked before. I dug out an old android phone running on 2.2 lg optimus. was wondering if I could copy the os files from my tablet which is running 4.0 and make my phones os a 4.0.
don't really expect to be able to do it but hey figured I'd ask
No becuase its not configured for your phone, roms made for your phone will only work on your phone.

Yes becareful, flashing other than specified for your phone, don't try to flash it. Simply find specific forum for your phone.

LG posts support comments and updates via Facebook.
See www facebook com / note php ? note_id = 301421733202487 [ insert dots and remove blank/spaces where needed] for a past comment on how to upgrade your LG Optimus. This should bring you up one release level, and there may be related posts on how to just up a version level?

Hello,
I was wondering how can you root an Android device? Is there a guide somewhere regarding how to do that?
I am not talking about rooting specific device, that you have everything prepared and you just follow some instructions,
but how exactly do they do it, so I will be able to root any Android device I want, even those cheap brandless Android devices.
I know you should gain su permission and that it's similiar to Linux, but that's basically all I know.
Is there a starting point to learn such a thing?
Thanks :good:

Getting SU is fairly trivial.
All you really need is a way to turn update.zip signing off. Most other brand android stuff does this.
Then you can make an update.zip that simply deletes the current /system/bin/su, and copies a new one, along with the libraries and superuser.apk.
Then you just need to set the permissions, and make a symbolic link between /system/bin/su and /system/xbin/su.
Then you should be rooted.

thanks for replying, these are the stuff I want to learn. You said some stuff to do, but I dont understand them, so I was wondering, is there a place/guide to learn those stuff? btw, you do know how to root devices by yourself? I mean taking any devices and you will know how to root it without the ready guides found on xda for example? or you know in general?
With SuperOneClick you can root devices with android 2.2.x and 2.3.x ... but what about for example Pentagram Monster? I think it won't be supported on the xda and it's provided with android 4.0.4 I think... any solution how to root those kind of devices? (or maybe I don't know something... )

There is a possibility to root Pentagram Monster. On polish most popular android forum you should look for thread about Pentagram Monster in section 'Other devices...".
I use the exynos abuse, dont know if it work for other vendors but it does the job in a single click.

been trying to find a way of rooting my cnm 7 touch but as of yet i can't find a way if anyone has any ideas ??
And how to flash CWM into unknown android device??? Can you show me
That it almost impossible - you need to sure that bootloader is unlocked and to know layout of partitions.
Hey guys,
After having nearly lost all my data because android would not recognize my Decryption password I would like to try to compile frost.
I don't know if it will work for the HTC one but I really want to give it a try to help out other people who might have to factory reset due to encrytion problems.
It looks fairly simple to compile it, only I have never compiled any kernel .img before.
Before I actually try to compile it I would like to get advice on how best to do it and what to avoid while compilling.
Again I really want to get this compiled for the HTC one as this had me in a really bad spot.

I know there are some questions in here but I really do want to get it compiled for you guys in this thread to have a way of possibly recovering encrypted data.
Anyone else up for the challange?
What?

Yeah I seen it will only work on 4.1.2 but lucky enough HTC hasn't update all devices to 4.2.2 yet .
I have a Ubuntu virtual machine setup for doing the compiling. Just installing required items now.
Should have everything setup tomorrow to start compilling

For now, lets leave it in general, once some development has been done we can talk about moving it back to development
Just wanted to say thank you for XDA for allowing us to start work in FROST.
I'm currently discussing FROST with a few other XDA'ers who are also interested in helping me out and getting this developed.
Once I know more (hopefully this evening) I will post an update.
Again thanks XDA for allowing this to be done
So u got the thread up, Awesome. Shoot me a pm when ya ready...
Welcome to your new home FROST
I'd like to help as well
I've got Eclipse/ADT set up ready to use for a couple of App ideas I've got. If it's just compiling Android code, I''m happy to help.
I've just finished a degree in Computer Security & Forensics (2:1) with a dissertation on Android security & security awareness. Prior to that I'v been a Systems Analyst and developer for a number of years (Mainframe/Unix/Microsoft). so although I'm fairly new to Android, I know my way roind an IDE or terminal editor and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty woth code.
Nice to hear man, and looking forward to getting started.
Ive had a few issues with my pc and have got most of it sorted now. So of all goes well i will be able to start work after many delays
And I could definitely use you help if you can man

lol, just have seen this.
The link to the University of Erlangen has some pretty neat resources, but I currently have no android phone to try making such a recovery image for.
For the case of (hopefully) your own phone you are trying to get the /data back: This software relies on the device having been unlocked not long ago. If the device was not unlocked for a week or so, you have no real chance of the keys being still in ram.
If you have a weak PIN, its bruteforce feature might work, if you have a strong one it may take very long. I'd recommend you to make a bit level image of the /data partition just in case (type man dd in your commandline in linux, the dd tool should also be in phone recoveries). And possibly try to encrypt it on your desktop that propably gets it done faster. Also you do not need to make a device specific recovery and you dont need to cross compile.
Also this: http://www1.cs.fau.de/filepool/projects/frost/frost.crackpin.tgz
might just work. Read through the README file in the archive, its straightforward.
thx good thing to konw
There's a reason they freeze the phone. If you hope to recover the keys from a phone that is powered off for anything like 5 mins or more forget it :/ . (The time really depends on the memory chips)

Hey the project is being worked on however it is going slower that expected due to alot of personal issue's.

Will FROST be able to recover deleted files from the phones internal storage? I'll send strength your way so that you'll get your life to awesomeness again.
FROST only works if your bootloader is unlocked. Since unlocking your bootloader wipes data you're screwed (unless there's some hack to prevent this for your device bootloader). Image the phone or copy the encryption header and try to brute force/dictionary attack your own password key as much as you want without worrying about data being wiped. Download Kali Linux live CD maybe it has some Android forensics tools I think it does. If not google around for 'android brute force encryption' somebody will have tools to do this.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Precedent (SCH-M828C) running 2.2. I would like to upgrade it to 4.3. Is this possible?
I could be wrong, but I do believe in order to get to 4.x You have to already be on 4.0+. I assume 2.2 is too big of a leap. Though I could be wrong if a ROM has been developed for your phone, though after a quick google search I find nothing =\
Sorry bud, may have to invest in a new phone.
Ya I think its possible but u have to download custom rom for 4.3....

I'm going to say, probably not.
I don't think any one has been able to build an old outdated Rom for a Nexus Device.
Never mind, why would you want that? It's so old.
And if it is possible, it'll probably be a lot of work.
Well i want to duplicate some apps and it worked with my old HTC One with Android 4.2.2. Unfortunately it doesn´t work with my OPO with 4.4.2 or 4.4.4...
Maybe i´m doing something wrong but i do the same steps for cloning apps....
Maybe you could try ColorOS which is based on Android 4.3
I will try that. Thank you for the tip...
EDIT: doesn´t work with 4.3....
Is there a way to clone apps with 4.4.4 ???

What apps are these that you speak of? If they're HTC apps, then you cannot use them because they require the HTC Framework which is closed source. You're better off just looking for alternative apps that serves the same purpose as those apps.
well its a game and i am sure that an HTC is not required for this... im using the apktool to decompile and then i change the package name and recompile it and sign it... but it doesnt work
Contact the game developer and have it work.
If you're running ART, disable it. What game?
And I'm sure all the effort of getting 4.4.2 without the guarantee of a game to work is not worth it.
I don't think that the game developer agrees to cloning the app. ART is disabled but still doesn't work.
Furthermore i am telling you that it worked with a HTC One.
I'm gonna find a HTC One and try it again.
The Game is Lords&Knights, maybe you can try it too and look if it works for you.

I'm on 4.4.4 and it works fine. Why are you trying to clone it?
If you want to move a saved game from device to device then use titanium backup.
I want to play with more than two accounts and i dont want to logout/login all the time. My problem is, that i can clone it and start the app but i can't login. The app just crashes the whole time.
Oh so you want one app twice on your device correct?
