[Q] operating system? - General Questions and Answers

Im sure this question has been asked before. I dug out an old android phone running on 2.2 lg optimus. was wondering if I could copy the os files from my tablet which is running 4.0 and make my phones os a 4.0.
don't really expect to be able to do it but hey figured I'd ask

No becuase its not configured for your phone, roms made for your phone will only work on your phone.

Yes becareful, flashing other than specified for your phone, don't try to flash it. Simply find specific forum for your phone.

LG posts support comments and updates via Facebook.
See www facebook com / note php ? note_id = 301421733202487 [ insert dots and remove blank/spaces where needed] for a past comment on how to upgrade your LG Optimus. This should bring you up one release level, and there may be related posts on how to just up a version level?

Most importantly, DO YOUR RESEARCH lol. I would take time to get used to android before taking the plunge. But, that being said:
I don't see why not. I was running froyo (not the same build, though) and I was having a hard time with the super one click due to driver issues and when the root was unsuccessful it didn't brick. I just ended up with an unused update.zip file. I am pretty new to this as well, but I'm just telling you what happened to me. Worst case, just reflash in odin, I think it's unlikely.

[Q] If I root my Nexus S...

Will I still receive the android updates? Ive always been sketchy about rooting my phone because i want to keep the android system as up to date as possible. Will I still receive the android updates if I root my phone or will I have to manually do it somehow?
Much thanks
If you flash a custom rom then you won't recieve the official OTA updates from Google.
If you root the stock rom you will still receive ota updates. You can also manually flash updates(best method). Please do alot of reading about rooting before attempting anything. Had you done this you would have known the answer to your question. Learn how to use adobe and fastboot. Don't be lazy and use a one click root method as this will not teach you anything about your phone and you will not know how to fix a problem should one arise. Thanks for posting in the correct section!

Found this sticky in the Nexus S General section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878446
double check if it supports your Nexus s version though.

You'll be just fine
Also, if your rooted and running a, custom ROM, you don't need OTA updates, as the ROM developers incorporate the updates into their ROMs, within a day or two usually. I don't even worry about updates from OEMS or Google anymore.
Pipsqueak approved this message.
One click is certainly looking like a bad idea as the ota does come through and then screws up your superuser. I've been arguing w my phone for a week trying to get past this and put cm7 on it.

[Q] Super noob here: don't kill me please, but help!

Hi, I recently betrayed the Apple clan and converted to Android.
I have an Infuse 4G and currently under going developing my device.
however
I have rooted it using super one click using a video I found in the development section of this forum. However, it did not continue on to show me how to install kernel and ROM.
Which brings me to my next issue: according to a fellow android user, I have to install a kernel....whatever that is. Can anyone provide a trustworthy link to install kernel from?
And also after that I apparently have to install ROM, but the choices for this are endless?
Sorry. I REALLY suck at this kind of stuff.
Also, are these ( FroYo, ICS, GB), ROM or kernel?...
Please read

Excuse me I have a big Problem. I have IMM76D Android 4.0.4 in my Nexus S 4G but i've taken a mistake while I flashed the bootloader.
I put corean bootloader in my Nexus S 4G. Android starts well but without Cellphone signal and USB. It does't have root. I dont now how change again the original bootloader because I can into fastboot and download mode but I can't set communication. It has original recovery. I'm thinking in wait for jelly bean update to change the bootloader. I can set communication with UART connection but FIQ debugger it's limited.

its weird that some ppl has such a hate towards using search button, its keeping this forum in order and u dont have to go trough tens of similar threads to find answers/solution/useful informations that u looking 4.
plus if u put some work/effort in to searching, u will always learn little bit of useful information, but i know its much simpler 2 just ask instead of putting some effort.

new to xoom need help

Hi im new to xoom and need some help i have the xoom2 and i carnt seem to find how to root it and any roms ect just woundering if anyone can help as its totally different to what im use too lol (coming from samsung galaxy note)
There are no roms or recoveries for the xoom 2. There is little to no development for it. My suggestion? Return it and get a different tablet if development is important to you.
