RE: [13/04/2013] CWM v5.0.2.8
I'm trying this right away. I opened the G1 dev page and just went wtf?! Is this the touch variety? If so you are awesome. The G1 isn't dead yet!
Edit: just tried! This is great, good work I've found no bugs yet, thanks for giving me a reason to get my G1 out of the drawer again

/me looks at g1 on desk
.....I guess I could be a little late for work today

Is it normal for the wipe sd-ext option to be missing from the mounts and storage menu?

No because /sd-ext is missing from recovery.fstab.. that's why it's not there. I'll fix it in a bit.
edit: done, fixed

When I try doing
Code:
$ fastboot flash recovery CWM_v6.0.1.2_010613_DS_32B.img
I end up getting
Code:
sending 'recovery' (3462 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.569s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 2.609s
For reference, this is the info displayed in fastboot mode:

HBOOT 1.33.0013d (drea10000)
CPLD-4
RADIO 2.22.27.08

You can't flash to your recovery partition with your current SPL, if you want to change recoveries through fastboot then flash the orange.nbh, then flash recovery, then radio, then SPL
Now boot to your new recovery and flash ROM of choice

So I am new to the G1, is this now considered the recommended recovery as opposed to Amon Ra 1.7.0? CWM is way more familiar to me, as I have used it on 90% of the devices I have owned. Thanks in advance!

Nope RA is still recommended, or I recommend it anyway as its built specifically for G1

I think its more of a personal preference.
I use and highly recommend cwm. Other people love RA. Roms flash just fine with either (except unsigned ones. You need cwm for those)

I may give CWM a try. I have been using the Superwipe v2 with AR 1.7.0, I am used to manually doing it with CWM.
While I have your ear, any chance for a Dream Anniversary Edition ROM? (5 years on 10/22/2013) :highfive:

I guess I could throw something together. I don't know what it would be though. I have given up on cm10.1. cm9 just needs camera and hardware acceleration, which we have made no progress on in about a year. cm7 hasn't changed in a while. glass requires armv7 libs. and I'm not too good with ports.

Can I restore an Amon Ra NAND backup with CWM? I am going to make a new backup as soon as I flash the new recovery but I thought I would ask.

Amonra makes backups in yaffs2, older clockwork recoveries did the same but I believe the 5x+ cwm uses .tar which isn't compatible
But you can always use fastboot to flash the backups made with yaffs2, that is if you have a bootloader that allows for fastboot flashing

Does NOT Work!!!!! I tried the Orange.nbh and it fails....i have HBOOT 1.33.0013d, Radio 2.22.27.08...this freaking phone is about to fly out the door
EDIT: Before I threw this POS out the door, i downloaded the file again....still had an error, tried on another computer....still had an error....tried another MicroSD card and it finally worked....dunno what was up with that....

Clockwork Recovery to Amon Ra Recovery

You can use Unrevoked to flash an alternate recovery to the Aria if it is in '.img' format. The question is does Amon Ra Recovery support the Aria?
Most anything can be done, but the question boils down to if its worth the devs time to build support for the device into the recovery. I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon since the aria is a midrange device with a relatively small dev pool.

One thing the newer clockwork does is that it actually confirms that the dalvic cache has been wiped. That's really all I personally noticed right off the bat.

This. After installing CM throug Clockwork, I've been wanting to flash the original recovery so I can charge the phone while powered off. Not sure how get Unrevoked to only flash the stock recovery .img without it attempting to root my CM (which is already rooted obviously).

theres not really anything to be gained by being able to charge the phone while it is off. just sayin.
And if I'm not mistaken, when you turn the phone off and plug it in, it still boots into the battery recovery right? So the phone is never really "off." (Correct if I'm wrong)

Clockwork Recovery

Okay, so I've installed Clockwork recovery on my Inspire, and as far as I remember, if you're on Froyo, you need 2.x.x.x, right? Well, if I choose to install an older version of CWM, I think it's 2.5.1.4, it gives me an error (an error occured while flashing your recovery). The last version of Rom Manager I had did the same thing with that version, but it at least had the option for 2 older 2.x.x.x versions.
Where can I get a functioning, older CWM?
Afaik everyone has changed their rom update scripts to support cw 3.*
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Okay. I was using LeeDroid and when I would go through a backup, it would lock at the HTC white screen. Everyone said it was because I'm on 3.X.X.X
2.5. 1.4 is screwed. Go to 2.5. 1.3

[MISC] Desire S instructions to achieve custom ROM

could someone with a big heart tell me the instructions on what should i do after achieving S-OFF? can you post it as step by step? what should i install first? Recovery? Radio? flash? sorry for this question but im a bit confuse on what to do first after s-off until i flashed a cooked rom.. please do help me...
After root, firstly you flash a Recovery then you flash a Rom of your choice. Either with ROM Manager from the market or Manualy. You ll find more detailed instruction at the Recovery thread and the Rom thread.
when should i do a nand backup? flashing the radio? and sir whats the difference of clockworkmod recovery from ext4? because the thread of CWM says it is much better to go to ext4 thread? can you ellaborate to me?

As it's your first time (I'd suggest)
(although as with any advice that you read on here it is given with best intention only and not necessarily correct....do this at your own risk)
1)
S-off (if by XTC this will also perform factory reset of your device so ensure you've sync'ed/ backed up data first)
2)
Download and run ginger break (to get root (then reboot)
3)
download and install the free application rom manager from android market
4)
Use rom manager to flash CWM (very simple option and it will do it for you)
5)
Use rom manager (gui - very easy) or CWM to perform your first full (Nandroid) backup
6)
follow wipe instructions that come with the custom rom installations instructions that you're planning on installing, if installing LBC rom (personally I've suggest this one) then there is a specific wipe script to run
7)
Download and Install custom rom
good luck
You can update to ext4 recovery at a later time when all the above has worked
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
If he uses the original CWM to do a wipe he will end up with an ext3 partition.
Better off installing cwm through rom manager and booting into recovery and flashing ext4 recovery. Then backup rom and flash custom rom.

O yer , good point, although if he installs ext4 afterwards won't it convert the ext 3 to ext4 for him?
Anyway I was suggesting that he runs LBC wipe all script that I believe will only make ext4 partitions

after you click it, choose HTC Desire S section.
It's a chinese forum. You can get some help of language from Google Translate.

actually im waiting for alpharevx windows version... i just want to know the step by step procedure on what to do first upto the last in order so i would not end up bricking my device..
TBH I've never used Linux before but just run Ubuntu from disc and it was pretty easy
I used this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=138
Just dont follow steps 13, 14 (since this is for another phone)
Wew! finally I was able to S-off my Desire S! but my question is what's next?
Sorry I'm a total noob on this. Btw, After the s-off process, alpharevx said if I want to install clockwork recovery, I typed "Y" then it says "downloading clockwork for saga" but after that nothing happens. It's just stuck there so I disconnected my device and rebooted it.
How can I install clockwork and how can I root my device? thanks

https://twitter.com/#!/clockworkmod/status/164780853703098369
not working yet
As of this morning about 6am EST, I flashed the new recovery and according to a recent tweet by koush there is a problem with the recovery. My experience after flashing both using fastboot and through clockwork rom manager, was that booting to recovery failed and my phone just rebooted into android. Just for the record, my phone is a tmo 4g w/ICS firmware 3.24 unlocked (revolutionary)/Hboot 1.17 running tripnraver beta001 cm9 unofficial with his crisp001 kernel.
edit...beat me to it...
i didn't try yet. is there any other info?
The problem is that the latest firmeware we pretty all use have no fastboot command
But happy to see it's in dev !
i was gonna flash it thru pg58img method cause adb is being gay but since its having issues ill wait for a stable release
Thanks for the update but ill stick with 4EXT...its the best!

No issues using the 4EXT touch recovery RC3 with the new firmware. If you need to have the touch recovery I recommend checking that out (I personally want to save my volume and power buttons).

TWRP
With fastboot erase cache between each flash.

I just fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery cwm whatever current version is
then installed the rom..
i think that dialer issue affects first gen htc one x owners some sort of dialer issue internally affected it they released a newer model with the fix.
i only say this bc my manager had the first gen and i had to flash cwm for him to get his dialer to work
