Go here follow the instructions exactly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348
I have done that and I am actually running my phone with the stock rom just fine. I encounter a problem when I try to flash a custom rom or superuser.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
You need to keep trying to flash the super user zip. It may take 4 tries or so.
---------- Post added at 12:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 AM ----------
And if your rooted and have cwm. Wipe data/cache 3 times then flash the rom. If you get boot loop after that. Wipe data/cache again. If still no good use odin to flash the stock recovery. Tar. Boot into that the wipe data and cache and reboot
Thanks for info, let's see if I can get this to work

make sure if you watch the vid to pay attention to the fact that he is flashing a CUSTOM rom on that vid and not the superuser.zip so if your doing the superuser.zip DO NOT wipe data/cache just
-backup
-install zip from sd card
-reboot
I copied the video to a T and got the bootloop. so remember DO NOT wipe ANYTHING for the superuser.zip
So you weren't trying to flash a custom ROM?
I'm having this same issue with the cycling boot screen. I will get past the Samsung logo and into the custom ROM logo and then it will freeze and restart. I have used ODIN to revert LOTS of times now. I don't have a problem running the stock, but I have the problem whenever I try to flash a custom ROM.
I'm looking to go custom to get rid of all the bloat and I want to change the icons at the bottom of the home screen.
No matter what custom rom I try to load on my G2X, it will go through, install the rom, and then when it reboots past the LG screen, it gets to whatever custom boot screen in on the rom, and just locks up. The only way I can get it to boot after that point is to NVFlash back to stock.
Tried searching through this site and google, but can't find a solution.
You need to say what the process is that you attempted to do. Wipes and what not.

Rooted phone, added Clockwork, booted into CW recovery, did data and cache wipes, installed CM7 from SD card, rebooted, phone froze at custom boot screen. Reboot, still frozen. Would not boot at all.
Used NVFlash to reinstall stock image on phone, rooted phone, CW recovery, data and cache wipes, installed a different rom for my phone model, same result. Back to stock using same process, tried a third rom using same process, same result, frozen phone that won't go beyond boot screen.
Using this same process on my old T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, it worked perfectly on several different roms.
It sounds like you may have a ROM for a different model phone. Can you send a link to the ROM that you downloaded for us to see?
Also, is your phone a T-Mobile G2x or an LG Optimus 2x (O2x).

It is a T-mobile G2X, LG-P999DW.
The CM7 link was straight from the CM7 site, it wasn't an experimental mod or anything, it was the stable one listed under the G2X.

Considering cm roms are supposed to wipe system prior to flash, I couldn't imagine what is going on. Try wiping system just in case and after that, try installing from internal as well. Other options would be download other ways, like on PC or from phone transfer the files differently. Other then that can't really help you.

The last time I pulled it directly on my phone, the other times I downloaded via my PC and then copied the file. Had been via external so I tried internal that last time too. I'm close to madness, but I'm also too stubborn to give up.
I was thinking maybe I need to replace the kernel, but I'm not sure whether that's the problem or which Kernel to try if I did need to.
I had a similar issue on a tablet of mine. What version of CWM are you using? Are you using the touch version? The touch version has had some boot problems. Did you try partition the SDCard in the advanced settings? I forget which I used on my phone. Has anyone else partitioned theirs?
Well, not knowing which peice is broken let me just recap my process for you and see how it works:
1. Use OneClick NVFlash from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 and select Flash CWM 5.0.2.0
2. Boot to CWM
3. format cache
4. format data
5. format system
6. format Dalvik cache
7. flash ROM from external/internal memory
8. flash kernel (optional, not required unless doing kernel testing)
9. flash gapps-package
10. fix permissions
11. reboot
I have not had this process screw up once for me so far. If this process does not work for you then you leave me really be scratching my skull...

don't root and then try. mostly roms come with super user access so try without rooting it manually.

PLEASE HELP!! I have successfully rooted the device and was doing ok after flashing CWmod recovery 6.0.1 through E-Z recovery app and running Liquid Rom. I managed to be dumb enough to flash CWMod version 5.8.4.9 through Rom manager and when I rebooted my phone it got stuck in boot loop. I am able to get into CWMod 5.8.4.9 but I cannot restore my backup anymore. I can also data wipe and install a new rom, but it all just keeps going into bootloop and I cannot get past the samsung custom unlock screen. It first flashed that, then the android man pops up on the next screen like its loading something and then just keeps looping through the process. I did not use ODIN for any of this process and I dont know how to get myself back tothe point where I can reboot. Any help would be tremendously appreciated, because I'm dead stuck and in a panic. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Happend to me last night...
I made the same mistake... DO NOT download any recoveries from ROM manager. I found out the hard way... So the problem now is your phone is stuck using the recovery you downloaded. I am not sure of a quick way using that recovery if you can revert back but... My solution got me where I needed to be in order to get going again.
I had to use Odin to root to stock ROM. Yes when you wipe it will destroy your data but not your pictures, downloaded files, and other files you put on there. When I re-rooted with stock all my stuff for CM10, gapps, and the kexec CWM was there.
So use this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28530394&postcount=1
Section 1!!!!! And follow the steps EXACTLY the way it says to.
This is why i have never liked rom manager...
The best solution for us to flash recoveries is ez recovery free from the market. I would use this going forward once you Odin back to stock

I had the same problem with 2.1 and 2.5 on my phone. For some reason, the flash does not work on my phone the first time. both times I had to pull the battery when I got stuck on the boot screen then boot into recovery, re-wipe, fix permissions and reinstall. It always worked for me on the second try.
Good luck.

Did you do a dalvick cache wipe too? Also were you flashing a kernel with 2.5? Are you coming from stock or a custom rom too? And if you are coming from a custom rom does it use a custom kernel? You should also check the md5 of the rom and verify it didnt get corrupt on download/transfer.

Yes i wiped the dalvick, fixed permissions, formatted just about everything and factory reset, when that did not work I formatted and wiped everything before and after the flash. still no luck. I was not flashing a kernel, (to be honest im not even sure how to do that) and im coming from a stock rooted rom that i got when i first rooted with odin. I checked the md5 and everything matched up too.
How!?

The process of how you flashed sounds right.
When you say it's stuck forever, how much time did you give the phone to reboot. Sometimes with a new rom, it may take 5 min or longer for reboot to finish. If you haven't already, just walk away for 5-10 min before checking it.

Clean rom wouldn't install for me on my phone... Weird stuff happened on the screen during boot animation and then would vibrate like crazy and go into boot loop... I came to realize that it was the kernel and I flashed lean kernel and it worked perfectly... I think these roms act differently on everyone's phones and sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to why things work for some people and not others... Just my. 02 cents

I have Verizons S3. I recently rooted and unlocked the bootloader and have TWRP recovery. I was on 4.1 JB. I made a Nandroid Backup of System and Data. I then flashed the CM10.1 Monthly ROM, and all seemed to be working fine. However, I was having some issues with my app backups and the weird "emulated" directory structure. So I decided to go back to my Nandroid Backup and start over.
I went into TWRP, did a factory reset, cleared System Data, cache/dvalick cache, then I restored the Nandroid Backup (system and data). TWRP said it was successful and asked to reboot. When I did, the Samsung logo flashes, and then the screen stays black. I tried going back into recovery, but it won't let me. I can get to download though.
I think I'm going to have to use Odin to reflash a ROM as I can't get into recovery, right? But I'm also trying to understand what I did wrong. Did I forget a step? Did it have something to do with differences between 4.1 and 4.2? I'm new to this, and have searched the forums but can't find anything that answers my questions specifically. I appreciate the help.

You're supposed to backup "boot.img" as well. I'm pretty sure boot.img is the kernel which you failed to backup. The phone won't boot into your nandroid because the kernel wasn't restored as well. In TWRP: system, data, and boot are all supposed to be backed up simultaneously if you want to restore the entire nandroid. Odin flash and make sure to do a proper nandroid with all three that I listed.

Ah, perhaps that "boot" checkbox wasn't check. =P So basically the CM10.1 boot.img is still there, but now the wrong ROM is there so it won't boot? Can I just flash the boot.img with Odin now, or will I need to do a full ROM flash?

No, when I do the button combo for recovery, the word "Samsung" flashes, then "Galaxy S3" logo, but after that nothing...just blank screen. I was on stock Verizon s3 before this, so I guess I need to put that kernel back on the phone? Is the kernel the same as the bootloader? Can I use the unlocked bootloader referenced in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974114?
So, I tried using Odin to flash back the stock JB 4.1.1 kernel, which should have matched my Nandroid backup, but then I got an unlocked padlock on my splash screen and then the yellow triangle. blah. so i flashed a stock no wipe rom and that got me back into touchwiz, but I cant get into recovery no matter what i do. And I still have the padlock. I think I may need to do a stock full wipe rom?

If you flashed a fully stock rom then you need to root, unlock, and install your custom recovery again.

Ok, so I finally got time to try this again after flashing back to (what I thought) was stock Jelly Bean 4.1. I was following the directions here in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
I get the VRALEC bootchain fine, phone reboots and all seems well. I got to flash TWRP 2.4, do a batter pull, and when I try to boot into recovery mode suddenly there is the Samsung splash screen with an unlocked padlock on it. Then the screen goes black and doesn't go into recovery. When I release the buttons, the phone then boots into the OS. I can still get to the download mode, but for some reason I can't get into a custom recovery. Any help on this? Please?
I used this file to wipe my phone back to stock JB: COMBINATION_I535VRBLK3_I535VZWBLK3_381038_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Thanks for the assistance. =)
Redo step three like the directions state.
Edit : In that thread, some folks even suggest waiting 5-10 mins after its successfully flashed before booting into recovery.

Forgot to followup here, but I got it working. I left my phone plugged in after flashing the recovery for like 15 minutes. I also released the power button on trying to boot into recovery once the Samsung logo appeared. I finally got into recovery and was so happy. Thanks for the help!
