I don't have the device , but the paranoid android thread will have proper instructions given
in general
go in recovery more ( cwm or twrp)
backup current rom ( just in case )
wipe data / reset
format system
wipe dalvik cache
install rom from sd card
if there is a custom kernel
flash its zip over the rom

Hey everyone. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff, so bear with me. I have successfully rooted and flashed the "infused" custom ROM on my infuse 4g (which was already running Gingerbread).
- rooted phone
- ran titanium backup
- ran SMS backup
- installed SGS Kernel Flasher
- installed ROM manager
- flash ClockworkMod Recovery (Galaxy S i9000)
- selected full installation for gtg465x infused release
- wiped data and cache (delvik also)
So, I have the "infused ROM" running with no issues at this point. Now I want to try the "emancipation" ROM.
My question is, how to I go from the "infused" custom ROM to the "emancipation" custom ROM? Do I have to do everything listed above all over again, or can I simply just put the emancipation ROM on my SD card and choose to install the ROM?
Thanks
Please Wipe Data/Factory reset and Wipe Cache. *Once the slate is clean, flash in recovery.
If you don't wipe...we don't know where you started and will be unable to help you with your issues.

Just follow the instructions from the developer of the ROM (on OP)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579180
Download Rom and put it on sdcard
Boot into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvic cache (under advanced)
Choose install Rom from sd card
Locate Rom and flash it
Reboot and enjoy

Thanks for the replies everyone. Much appreciated
I've got this phone, I want to install an ICS rom on it, but all the pages for all the roms say "Make sure you have ICS installed already or you will be in bootloop", or something similar about CM9 or AOSP.
Where do I start to put ICS on my phone? Am I supposed to get some kind of OTA update from t-mobile?
I am quite tech-saavy and I've been in the phone flashing game for a while, so if anybody could kindly drop a useful link that would be enough for me.
Thank you.
You will need cwm 5 or twrp and then flash any ics rom u want

Download The latest CM9 boot to CWM to install it you can use quick boot to get into CWM then goto mounts and storage to format your system, wipe your cashe, And your dalvik cashe, do a factory reset the install from SD find the file possibly in your download file on your SD card. Then reboot.

Mod Please Delete. Good luck to you guy. My suggestion, read a lot about what you are about to do... Read, read, read... and just because you sound like you have no idea what you are doing, do some more reading. Lol. Bot42 is pretty dead on... I never had to flash the kernel and I came from Valhalla Black but it is probably safer and less of a headache to do it Bot42's way.
Thank you to everybody! I've never got such quick, concise, and useful information on the forums for other phones on xda-developers (or anywhere else, really).

This is wonderful. I have flashed AntonX's Kernel already using the Heimdall-One-Click software. Can I now just flash any CM9/ICS rom?
EDIT: Rebooted into recovery, AntonX's kernel did indeed flash CWM 5, so I'm set.
Closed.
Hey all , hope u rocking with your tabs.
anyway, I decided to move on and divorce my stock rom forever
I just would like to ask about a few little things before i get starting flashing.
1 - can i flash Panaroid(Cauz it's awesome and very fast software cycle) with the stock CWM?
2 - if i decided to return back to stock ICS, i will have to wipe data then and would that make me vulnerable to the famous brick bug?
3 - how to backup my stock rom just in case?
4 - what's the biggest sacrifices i will make due to this migration?
well, 2 days now and no one answers these questions :S
Well I have Paranoid installed and its perfect. I backed up my stock ICS and I have a backup. That's all.

Hi I am newbie as well. Still see and learn from this great helpful website. I would like to share my experience to play around with custom ROM. and so far still safe. These steps are from what I have done although I have not used the wonderful [ROM][JB : 4.1.2][CM10 Hybrid][P6800\P6810\i815] Paranoid Android v2.22 [17/10][WIP], I am still waiting for the nearly perfect of this rom. .
I am still satisfied with [ROM] Singha ROM Version 1.1.1 (SEP 26 2012). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886370

1 - can i flash Panaroid(Cauz it's awesome and very fast software cycle) with the stock CWM? It is better using CWM instead of Stock recovery. I am using old version Locerra's recovery at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542897&page=13. Works perfect so far.
2 - if i decided to return back to stock ICS, i will have to wipe data then and would that make me vulnerable to the famous brick bug? if you have downloaded stock ICS thenI would suggest using CWM when you are installing from zip file. So far I did the bellow steps if using CWM :
1) place on internal SD
2) reboot to CWM
3) wipe data/factory reset in CWM
4) wipe cache
5) advanced > wipe dalvik, wipe battery stats
6) install .zip from INTERNAL SD
7) reboot
Another method is using mobile odin or PC Odin to flash with Stock ICS. You can see at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469635
3 - how to backup my stock rom just in case? You have to install CWM Recoverry. TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809295 or Locerras' recoverry
4 - what's the biggest sacrifices i will make due to this migration? see The OP updated log. It is nearly perfect and there is still bug. But it depends on individual's opinion.

Hi guys! I've been trying to install CM and JellyBam but I couldn't. I could only install stock roms
I have a rooted phone with CWM recovery
I followed every step to install a ROM: wipe data, wipe cache, even wipe dalvik, then installed ROM from SD card.
Some help, please?

I always get a bootloop
Have you tried doing the wipes after you installed the roms
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
Yes I did. Also I tried installing again the same ROM and wiped the data.
You need to flash bernie's files before installing any CM based rom.

Actually I want to install JellyBam ROM. Do I also need to flash bernie's files in order to install this rom?
Where can I find them?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35199371
try that link.
Can you explain me why I have to downgrade in order to install a custom Rom?
Sent from my LG-P920h using xda app-developers app
You're not actually downgrading...you're just flashing a baseband to get cm compatible. Ignore the posy name. Its the method you follow

Ok I'll try
I currently have CM9 installed on my SGS4G and it's been over a year since I had it and wanted to try something new. After browsing in the dev forum, I decided to try out the SlimBean 4.2.2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233640
I was wondering will my phone be able to handle it? Its still on ICS 4.0.4. The first instruction says to factory reset/wipe my phone but I don't really want to erase everything. Can I just download the SlimBean rom and flash it while on my CM9? Will it change my ROM to SlimBean or will something really bad happen.

That would be what's called a dirty
flash only used if you are upgradeing your current ROM..
You will have all kinds of problems dirty flashing jellybean from ICS..
Back up your app data with Titanuim Backup and try restoring app data 1 by 1..But don't dirty flash JB from ICS follow the OP's flashing
Instructions.

If I do the factory reset like the instructions then I would have to re-root and reinstall ClockworkRecovery right?
