Hi, Guys.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to stop my WM6.1 blackstone (Touch HD) from attempting to connect to the data connection when I do something network related on the phone. Because It's already connected to wifi.
I'm connected to wifi, and can browse the web, use messenger etc.. But if I attempt something like entering a network path like \\NETDISK\share into the file explorer, it says "Cannot connect etc..." and it's trying to connect via the HSDPA connection, which can't access my local network anyway. It needs to use the wifi...
Is there any way to stop it trying to connect? In the connection settings, I've deleted all modem connections, leaving just the wifi connectivity. If I try to add wifi as a modem, the option is not there...
I'm really lost with this. Please offer any advice you can. I'm close to twisting it in half..

I say you should try and figure it out alone...because that's how I did it!

Gooodman, thanks for the reply, while i'm sure many will find this thread useful now, It's of no help to me.
I do have connectivity via WiFi, It's not a normal networking issue, my network is setup perfectly.
The issue is that the Touch HD is always trying to connect via other means even when wifi is available and connected.
For instance, I'll open messenger, or click download on the aGPS data, and the phone attempts to connect to the internet via my phone service provider, when wifi, is connected and ready.
Some apps connect via wifi fine, it seems to be the WM software itself attempting the connection rather than any of my applications.
I don't think it's as straight forward as the first replyer seems to think.
If he'd be so kind as to post this incredibly simple resolution, i'd be very greateful.
I also struggle with this, but this seems to affect it:
a. Start\settings\connections tab
b. Connections
c. Advanced tab
d. Select Networks button
e. Play around with the drop down menu's, especially the lower one.
I cannot be more precise as I do not completely understand myself, but this has helped me in the past.
Plz just to inform, before posting I try really hard to solve it by myself !!!
I can not connect myself to any open wifi spot !
My handsfet Xperia X10
Android 2.1
I did succeeded to connect a week ago but right now I simply can not connect to anyone
I already tried some applications:
WIFI Analyzer
Wifi Manager
WifiFinder
They do locate it (open wifi spots( and try to obtain the IP address and even sometimes a connection is established by can not navigate, access market
Can a wifi spot be tagged as OPEN but it is not ?
i thank you everyone in advance
Several days ago I bought new Xperia P. Since begining I found to unstable wifi connection in home network. Previous Samsung W without any problems.
This issue come irregulary in time and without any context to signal strenght. When trying to find out, I only found there is a problem to obtain IP address from router. On router log there is MAC of phone visible an noted as associated or ressociated, regard the situation. All widget I tryed show status connected and original phone aplication was in Limitated connection with IP addres made internal without router. Seem to be matter of obtaining or renewing IP address. Router is set up to DHCP and wireless is encrypted to WPA-PSK. There was no change in other encryption nor fully opened wireless with no protection or encrypting. Still the same situation. Does anybody similiar problem or any adwise how to fix it up ?
Dawe
Sony Xperia P (LT22i) on GB 2.3.7.
kernel version 2.6.35.7+,
Build 6.0.B.1.564
Data disabled, Wifi allowed,
Advanced settings - Wifi sleep policy to never swich from wifi to data
router Ovislink WMM-3000r on firmware R1.97g8-R61-MBSSID
Maybe you can try the "Blade Wifi Fix" application from Google Play Store.
At work we installed a new WiFi router a few months back. The connection is open and no one needs a password to connect to it. But many who bought android phones recently arent able to connect to it. I have a OnePlus One with android 4.4.4 which doesnt connect to the WiFi. My colleagues own Xiaomi, Motorola phones which they bought recently, which also doesnt connect to the internet.
The phones detect the WiFi signal, says the network is saved but fails to connect to it no matter what. The temporary solution is to make our laptop into a WiFi router and use it but this is seriously annoying. The router is from HP and I dont know the exam model number for it at the moment
I will be grateful if someone can find any solution for this problem. Also, I am a novice when it comes to gadgets so, if your suggestion is to manually set up my WiFi settings please do so with clear instructions or a video of some sort. However I will be happy if this problem gets solved in a straightforward manner.
Please help!

No need to configure wifi on your device IMO.
Sounds like an issue with the wifi router.
To check an fix the internet settings of the wifi router, you will need the adminstrative access/console/password for the router.
Then you can check that all new devices afre allowed to connect. On some routers you can restrict the access to a list of known devices or by enabling a MAC address filtering.
If you find such options on the HP wifi router, disable it and restart the wifi.
And make sure that the SSID of the wifi network is visible (= not hidden). Some Android devices have issue connecting to hidden networks.
Thread closed. Thank you.
Hi,
is there a fix for the wireless connection bug between the opo and a fritzbox?
The problem:
The opo is not able to connect to the wlan on the fritzbox with DHCP enabled more than one times.
It is a known problem, there are a lots thread out.
The point is, that the fritzbox is recongnize the opo on every connect as a new device.
When the option "always same ip to the device" is enabled the opo canĀ“t connect anymore.
Some people slove it with unchecking this same ip feature. So they will get a new ip adress on every connect.
I can not use this because i need to have the same ip all the time.
Rebooting the phone (or turning on/off flight mode) helps and you are able to connect once more.
I also tried to assign a manual ip to my phone (not using DHCP). But it not working stable. Sometimes it still crash.
Anyway i was woundering that there are no threads about that problem? Am i the only one?
Anyone knows how to fix this?
ive read about that problem but myself never faced it. (settings like you mentioned). i got the keep ip feature active + dhcp
Fritzboxes I've been connected to:
3390 (at home constantly)
7490
7270
latest firmware.
I have the Fritzbox 6490 and no problems... maybe you could try to reset the router?
