[Q] Tweaking questions - Android Apps and Games

OK so I have the s3. I'm used to jail broken iPods. One thing I enjoyed with it was the ability to tweak and mod the look endlessly in Cydia.
So I'm rooted and have a ROM installed. I forget what one but its basically bare bones. How can I tweak it endlessly like the iPhone? I don't want to use a launcher because they use system resources and what not. Is there a thing kinda like Cydia for android? I'd like to tweak my phone and skin it.
Thanks.

Xposed has a few options
and also there is cydia and winterboard for android which idk what they even do

What's xposed? Sorry

You should never be afraid to try a new launcher.
There are a number of great alternatives to the stock launcher, and I would be willing to wager that many of them are more efficient and resource friendly than stock.
I personally use Nova, which I would recommend, but there are many people who would vouch for its competitors (Apex, GO Launcher, ADW, Trebuchet, etc..)
I'm not too familiar with the process of jailbreaking, or customizing iPhones, but I imagine it's going to be a learning curve going from iOS to Android. Read read read! Read all the instructions before you try something new with your device, and troubleshoot everything yourself before resorting to asking here. (This includes searching before starting a new thread, as your question will probably already have been answered somewhere.) Be polite and respectful and the community here should be good to you.
While I do not have an S3, my device (Note 2) is quite similar to yours. I'm certainly not the most versed member of the community, but I've been around the block a few times. If you ever get in a jam and need to ask a question, I would be more than happy to help, feel free to PM me.
Best of luck!

Are you going on every section and posting a thread with this title that asks questions that are vague and easily searchable?
Well i have different questions that should be in different parts of the forums, I dont understand while people insist on submitting that on the forum. If you wish not to help just move along.

I am helping you. I told you to use the search, which is going to help you a lot more than you think. Even browsing through these threads, I'm sure you see that a lot of these processes can be a bit extensive. And, especially when you ask vague questions like in the original post, no one can help because you're not saying anything specifically (WHICH launcher are you looking to change to? etc. etc.)
Get it? Gonna' use that search? Hope so.

I normally don't like this kind of answer but in this case i would have to agree with TJ, start from the beginning first, have the device rooted and flash your custom ROM then everything will come easier
These guys are just morons. In the time you guys wrote all that crap, you could have just answered his question or atleast guide him.
Even thought you can somewhat modify the appearance, and customize it to your linking, you will need to root your phone in order to modify certain elements.
For beginner I suggest you download a few apps that will allow you to do some minor tweeking. Here's a list of a few apps to start you off.
Launcher pro
Beautiful widgets
Pure calendar
Flickie
Switch pro
Here's a screen shot of my evo.

So we're morons because we didn't post a broad answer with suggestions of five different things like you? I think you should wisen up before you start slinging around insults that describe yourself more than anyone else.
There's an old saying that goes, "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for the night, but if you teach him to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."
THAT'S the mentality that goes into showing people the usefulness of the search tool. Unless it's something profound or newly developed by that particular person, odds are it's been discussed and can be found with the search tool.
You above just gave him tips to different kinds of launchers, and suggested things like rooting his phone, but didn't post any kinds of links to tutorials or downloads for the apps themselves... are you expecting him to SEARCH for these things himself or what?... exactly.
Get the **** outta' here with that **** guy.

I didn't give him a smart answer, and I not only respected him, but gave reasoning as to why I gave the answer that I did... in fact, the only person to be dissrespectful and give an answer that doesn't truly help is... well... you. LMFAO. IN fact, I think I called you out pretty in depth, and your response was a childish sentence with a "name" inserted. Get real. But, I guess you were "answering me with the best of your knowledge", so I shouldn't expect anything more, eh?
Anyways, have fun with the "flaming". I'm a bit too busy actually theming and trying to have something to contribute to really care about the petty. ;-)

[Q]Personalizing my Desire S

I just got a Desire S from my employer which I have to use, and I'm completely new to Android so I don't know much about the OS. I used to be quite active on XDA back when I had WM6.5, but after using WP7 I haven't been looking much at these forums.
What do you guys suggest I do with my phone to get started with customizing my phone? At the moment I'm not too interested in doing things which will break the warranty. Was thinking more about great apps, themes and things like that

Galaxy 7 Plus Devs.

This may seem like a redundant request but if you are or are GOING to be deving for this device could you post your Twitter or G+ id's here so we can follow your work?
That would be great.
+1 ...we fought for a forum...now no development...kinda disheartening.
I guess I need to get back with it now that I have kernel source...
You could follow me all you want, but you probably won't like where I'll lead. I usually don't bother with twitter, g+, facebook, or any other "social" site. (On the other hand, if you find any anti-social sites, please let me know.)
need to brainwash the tab8.9/10.1 developers to do the custom ROMs for us as well..
btw, what are we looking for in a new custom ROM?
EXT4, i think Samsung already moved to this...
Optimization
- Hardware Acceleration? Already ON by default in Honeycomb, I have done this mod and no difference at all.. it depends on the app to utilize this feature...
Theming ? Once rooted, you can modify the framework files.. should be quite easy, but abit time consuming... and requires creativity...
- Bloat removal? just ROOT and remove those excess fats..

My two yr old son plays fruit ninja and the calculator/calendar/etc opens. I bet a lot ofyou experience the same annoyance of the bottom bar mini apps not having the option to hide or lock on games and other apps on fullscren.
I'm not likely to be getting the device but I'm gonna stop by and help out to get things off the ground.
In terms of speed of development, keep in mind this thing "soft launched" in the US - I didn't even know until a few days ago that it was available at all. It's typical for a device to take a few weeks to get off the ground, the I777 was an unusual exception due to being 95%+ identical to the I9100 and being a majorly anticipated handset launch.
I'm going to start on something here soon, buy this will be my first developing for any device, so you prob won't want to follow anything I do, its gonna be slow and buggy

You can use "Honeybar" ROOT from the Android Market. It lets you hide the bar in Honeycomb.

I realize that you are trying to get all the Devs in one spot and thats a great idea in a new forum... however since nothing is being developed here (rom/kernel) Im going to have to move this to the General section.

If it gets big enough then I will. The Dev thread is for development, not asking questions or asking for people to raise their hand.

umm.. but they have to raise their hand in order for you to smell their armpits. How else will you know who is a dev and who isn't? (I think I might have just insulted myself... hrmm)
I just posted this over in the 10.1 community's General section, hopefully someone can help me get started!
Maybe someone here can hep me get the ball rolling as well?

Hi all,
I just got my hands on a galaxy tab 7.0 plus and was hoping to build a rom for its community (no one has really built a rom for 7.0, its a small community and we just got CWM).
Ideally I'd like to kang together a stock Honeycomb 3.2 rom, free of touchwiz. I was hoping to port over one of the Google I/O Roms for the 10.1. I figure our devices are close enough that I can try tossing over the build props, make sure to use the boot/recovery images from the 7.0 and maybe, just maybe, get lucky. Or at least have a good start.
The problem is that I can't seem to find any of the Google I/O roms, past 3.1. Do those device not get updates? Is there another Touchwiz free rom I can start from? I remembering reading a while back that TWUX is an optional update for the 10.1. I've been looking around, but I'm have a heck of a time finding links that clearly imply I'm dling a Touchwiz free rom. Most of the just say "Stock" which is a bit ambiguous.
If someone would be kind enough to point me to an ODIN and CWM mod version of the sorta rom I'm looking for I'd be greatly appreciative(and hopefully if I can get this out the door, so will 7.0 community)
Thanks!

Not sure...ask the dev if that's what he used. It's possible. This launcher is nothing special to me, I used to have an X10 so it was one of the first mods I did.
Someone may recommend the dev for RebelROM to try this? I would, but I'm unable to post in the development section yet... Compared to what RebelROM has, this looks a bit more full-fledged. Those widgets and extra features could do some good for RebelROM!

No need to recommend anything to the dev, just flash the launcher, problem solved! Not everybody like the same launcher, but that's a non-issue with as many launchers as there are out there including the one here this dev has made available for us.
Unfortunately, following instructions in the thread, notice I read it first, still unable to install. Any advice or comments are truly welcomed. I do like this launcher and would love to be able to kick the tires and take it for a ride.
Also, perhaps we all should allow each other, as long as the Devs are OK with it, to suggest things to enhance all of our experience. I kinda like the suggestion to include this launcher as I did your posting about the toggles.

Haha, good job
As for why it's not working, I have no idea. I never bothered to try it cause I didn't quite understand the direction clearly and cause I used to have a SE X10 that had that launcher so it's old news to me. Maybe try posting in the original thread and see if they can help you out.
It doesn't matter to me if you guys suggest or request things be added to the ROM, my only reasoning was if it can be flashed to your phone why does the dev need to bake it in to his ROM. Doesn't matter to me what launcher he uses cause I use GoLauncher no matter what.

[DISCUSSION] Our prayers for bloatless TouchWiz might just have been heard.

http://www.sammobile.com/2015/01/29...from-touchwiz-making-most-of-it-downloadable/
I can't believe this. Like, really. The Nope 3 got Lollipop before the Nope 4?
And now Samsung making slimmer ROMs?
I wanna hear your opinions: is it better that most of the bloatware is going to be removed?
Trick question. Dear mods, please ban anyone who answers the question above with "no".
No, er, I mean yes.
I hope so -- I would much rather see them have a page in the setup that simply says "Try these apps on your Galaxy" that the user can read and decide i f they want to download and install.
Yup optional is the way forward plus it means Samsung will probably have to spend less time modifying and testing android updates.
My biggest bug bear with Samsung has been the over customisation. If it wasn't for them being the only ones to make something like the s pen I wouldn't use them.
