[Q] Recurring events and android - General Questions and Answers

So I've given up waiting for google to implement a decent selection of recurring events on their calendar, and am trying other options.
The type of thing I'm looking for is to be able to schedule events on the first/last day/weekday/weekend day of the month. I got close with a trial of pocket informant but after a while that starting duplicating events on the wrong days (last day of the month would repeat on all the weekdays in the last week of the month).
I then tried the outlook.com app to sync my microsoft calendar to the phone. Again, the data appears fine in microsoft-land, but on the android phone the events are all duplicated across the wrong days.
Does android just not like recurring events?
It's almost enough to make me consider jumping ship to WP8! Well, not really but it annoys me intensely.
Update:
OK, so with PI I can add a recurring event on say the last day of the month. However, whereas the google calendar on my pc shows a correct recurrence, on the phone, with PI or any other calendar I try (stock, jorte, business calendar) the recurrences are incorrect.

Annoying automatic reminders for birthdays and anniversaries

Hi everyone. I maintain all birthdays and anniversaries for my contacts in the contact details. But somehow, they automatically become reminders. How can I set the phone up (including Outlook on PC) to not to make reminders out of birthdays and anniversaries, but still have them in calender as annual events (without reminders)?
Using Kaiser, WM6 (Alex's Clean ROM); PC has Vista, Outlook 2007.
Not positive about Outlook 2007, but in 2003 (which is where I'd change them), once you open the calendar hit, there is a "reminder" box which, if unchecked, will not provide a reminder for the event. You'll want to make sure you open the series, not the individual event before unchecking the reminder box.
That's just ur way of saying you don't wan't to rember you'r anniversarie lol..
Cheer's
Thanks debs, but I already knew that method of disabling reminders, but the problem is that it has to be done for all of them one by one, which is very annoying if you, let's say, hard reset and restore your contacts, it syncs with outlook and then you have your reminders again; or let's say you add new contact in either pc or ppc, sync and another set of reminders.....
I was looking for something that would disable the automatic reminder.
I use SPB diary for these events to be displayed on today screen, so don't really need to reminded at midnight that someone's birthday or anniversary is coming up!

I have the same problem. The main problem is not that it reminds me. I need it to remind me. But I don't want it to remind me at midnight. I want to be reminded at 10 AM for example.
And you are right, we should be able to set reminder for a category of reminders such as Birthdays, Anniversaries, Holidays, etc..
Anyone has a solution for this?

Hi Damac,
You've probably figured this out by now, but ...
1) In Outlook: Tools -> Options...
In the calendar section there's a checkbox for default reminder. That needs to be unchecked to prevent any new calendar items from getting a reminder. Unfortunately this affects all new items; Birthdays, meetings, etc. You may wish to leave this on and just periodically kill off the annual events that you don't need a reminder for.
2) In Outlook: Calendar mode. View -> Current View -> Annual Events (or Events).
This will show a table of all annual events.
Right click on the heading bar (Subject, Location, Recurrence, etc) and select field chooser.
This will open another floating dialog with extra fields that can be added to the table.
Find "Reminder" in the field list and drag it to the heading bar in a suitable spot.
Now any event that has a reminder will have a little alarm bell icon in the reminder field.
You can single click each of those icons to turn off. It's easier than it sounds and most annual events you won't want a reminder for anyway as the alarm always goes off at midnight!
3) On the PPC: This is for a 6.1 version, but it's similar on all of them.
Start -> Settings. Personal tab. Sounds & Notifications.
Sounds tab. This section alows you to turn off sound for all alarms and notifications.
Notifications tab. Select the 'Reminders' event. This allows you to choose the sound that plays and also whether the sound repeats, light flases & vibrate.
Since I do want to be notified of important days, I've just unchecked the repeat box. There's nothing more annoying than being woken up at midnight by a constant notification alarm about Aunt Bessie's birthday. I can put up with a single alarm, but not a repeating one!
Just like the previous poster, I'm also looking for a way of getting the all day events notifications to activate at a time other than midnight...
Cheers,
Anthony
Anyone got a solution to this?
I want it to remind me at a time I select too. Not midnight.
*push*
Me too. Same problem with annoying reminders at 23:45...
Greets,
Puschel
When I was still using the IMate Jam (can remember the operating system) it had a option to set the reminder time for all day events.
Why did they change something that worked.
I wish I can get that code of the imate en add it to my HTC Touch pro 2 (WM6.5)

I'm like yourself, I want to be reminded of families birthdays, anniversaries etc but don't want to be reminded at 12.00am.
To stop this I sync'ed my device with Outlook and then changed the reminder notification time to 0.5 days for each birthday/anniversary
Tip, when you open a birthday/anniversary....make sure you click on 'open the series'
Also, you can change the default notification time so for any new birthdays/anniversaries the default time will be set to whatever you choose, i.e. in my case 0.5 days

Thanks. I am doing this already as a work around. But I want the reminder to ring on the day of the birth day not the day before. The Imate Jam (WM 2003) had a setting " all day begin at .... "

50 year old appts on device calendar cause sync errors

I'm not sure how these calendar events came to be on my ppc, except perhaps that a previous sync or software app created all day events every year from the day someone was born until the present for their birthday, etc.
Now I get errors when I sync, because it can't transfer these OLD appointments. Is there any easy way to clear the calendar of all appt data from before 2005 or such?

Problems Synchronising Notes with outlook

Just was wondering have anyone else also problems with synchronising notes with outlook. Maybe one time out of 50 I get the Pro synchronised with outlook but mostly I get ether a message that attendance required or just plain error. And of course the microsoft synchronisation program is one of the worst programs I have ever seen from user friendliness. When I bought this phone I had to transfer contacts and everything else from the old phone at least twice because during the first synchronisation periods I either got all contacts double or they disappeared next time same with calendar and tasks. Very confusing is also the frase keep in device or keep in desktop all the time confusing where the hell will the notes or else will be left.
But as I understand there is no alternative either.

needed: mod for google calendar, reminders for irregular events.

A friend of mine who just got his G1 sms'd me that the only thing not good abt the Google calendar is that it will not do reminders for events that reoccur on different days each year.
Like Mother's Day (second Sunday in May) and Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November) or someone's payday (every third Thursday on a full moon or whatever.)
I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make a program that'll allow this. Who's up to it?
This is not a G1 issue, it's a Google Calendar issue. Cal on G1 just parses the data in your Google Calendar account. What your problem is is getting events that recur on something other than a fixed date onto there. For holidays, simply add one of the public holiday calendars.

Exchange calendar not correct-1st of month repeating

I am on stock rom and have an issue with Exchange calendar synch. I have several tasks at work set up as the first of the month every month but they show up daily on my calendar and reminders. Any way to fix? Android issue? Samsung issue?
I did search. Must not have used the right words if this is already on infuse forums.
