Hmm.. Grateful to all the developers, but, was just wondering, why the development of 4.1 and 4.2 stuck in alpha 5 stage for so long, is the development halted? Anywhere else we can get a more stable ROM? Will the development continue, is it time to sell our i9003?
You do know this is a 3 year old phone, don't you? i9003 started with Froyo and have managed to survived GB, ICS and now at JB. Meaning 3 generations of Android.. Isn't that something you should celebrate on? It's still fairly acceptable on v2.x kernel and is very unstable on v3.x.. Yes, sad to say, if you gonna enjoy further Android development, get yourself an Android with v3.x kernel...
It is alpha for a reason: Every version has bugs like Bluetooth not working perfectly (or at all), recording a video in 720p or the lack of hardware composite. Kernel 3.0x is very unstable and not even recommended for daily usage, so developers had estimated that the kernel 3.0x is in Alpha state and that the JB and ICS also be in alpha state with the 2.3.6 kernel. IMHO Iosco roms (that has a couple of bugs) its among the best and you could use it daily without FC or the like.
Development has not stopped, Dhiru, who is working in 3.0x kernel said that IRL problems keep him from working but that development will resume eventually.
In the 2.3.6 side of things, Iosco has ironed out a couple of bugs with JB but a couple remains.
I'm confident that some day will have a Stable kernel with JB, we are not that far away.

If you're thinking of getting a used sgs2, do go for the non G version... I don't own one but I've rooted at least 3 sets of non G version and loaded them with CarbonROM v1.6/1.7 stable. It's still quite performing and smooth... G version, on the other hand, does lack some nice ROMs.

This phone can run CM9 w/ no problems. Feb has proven that to us. It's going to go to a 4.0 Source code drop of this phone, or the DHD to get it before we see a stable build for it.
This is pretty exciting news imo. Any indication the CM team hasn't forgotten about our device, the better. I am curious about getting into the nightly routine but I have really liked using TDJs KANG when I use CM. Mostly because I almost always get better battery life on his kernels.
On that note, does anyone know where to download the Darkside X kernel he packaged with the 7.2 KANG? The kernel thread he links to only has 12 and 12.5. I can't find it in the my touch forums for the life of me. The only similarly named thing is in his new Samsung device forums but it clearly states in that thread that he compiled it from Samsung code so that can't be the same one he bundled with our KANG can it?
I supposed a more experienced user or amateur dev can extract the kernel from the KANG and make a flashable version so I can use it with the nightlies; but I would never ask for such a thing.........

I think they didn't want to just throw away CM 7.2 before jumping into CM 9. Plus there are certain things that don't work, such as the camera, that I don't think the CM team would push out a build without things like that working at all. I doubt we'll see a stable release before HTC drops any ICS source code.

Nope, nothing resembling a kernel named Darkside X for glacier. Doesn't seem like anything on there was updated in the past 2 months though.
There are 3 possibilities I see as to an explanation.
1 - the kernel is 12.5 with almost nothing different. Enough to warrant a different version title but not enough to establish hosting it as it's own new thing.
2 - it's the Samsung kernel and it's compatible with the mytouch (doesn't seem likely but his kernels have magically been cross-compatible before [g2] so who knows).
3 - it's a current version but mislabeled. That seems so unlikely from what I know of this dev that I won't even entertain such an idea.
I haven't noticed a world of a difference from this "darkside x" kernel versus the kind of performance I got on the 12.5 so I will just pretend the darkside x is some anomaly and be more than happy with using 12.5.
CM9 is way to far from a lot of devices, only devices getting official nightlys are the nexus phones (crespo, toro and the new galaxy nexus ) thats why they are developing cm7, cyanogenmod needs to re-write all the code becuse google makes a lot of changes in ICS

Can't post this in the development section as a response so I will post it here. Does the new InstigatorX 6.1 kernel work on TeamChopsticks CM10 8/12 a2 ROM? YES!!! Everything works great. Camera, video and landscape work also. Only issue is I get FC's using Facebook sometimes but that is minor for me. Used CWM 6xx to flash. Flashed rom, gapps 7/29 and kernel flawlessly. As always, thanks to everyone involved for making our phones much more enjoyable! Enjoy!

Calling and texting also work good. No issues yet. Still an alpha so you may have issues with other programs. Chances are that we don't have the same stuff. Only thing is overall phone volume has been low since I first flashed CM9 two months ago. Easy fix was downloading a volume boost app.

r4ins is going to keep up with the AOKP Jellybean project since armyvet is not, and gmillz will also probably keep building on their ROM. I'm on the 8/5 with the 1a chopsticks base and InstigatorX 6.2 kernel. If you're experiencing a "choppy" feel, check out either the Darkside or InstigatorX kernel and pick a good frequency governor. That can help a lot. On any of these early ROM's you're going to still get FC's and reboots.. they're Alpha's. If avoiding that is the most important thing to you, I would stick to CM9, Chimera, SkyICS, or a similar ICS ROM.

Yeah but Indroid has beats audio and audio FX which is really awesome:laugh:. I didn't find any improvement on music in CM9.. and I didn't find CM9 laggy either..! CM9 occupies lesser space than InDroid, as InDroid has a lot of apps.. some are unnecessary. .like s2 settings. .so I opened the InDroid.zip file on 7zip and deleted the apps i don't want and flashed it again. . luckily it worked
cm9 is the best for me daily usage.

Cm7, cm9 or Ics are unofficial beta roms so they are buggy. Those who said they are the best are good liers.
Fanciful roms which imitate iPhone or ICS have overheads. soon, you will find it to become slower and slower.
Value or cut down versions have compromises but they are fast.
It is a question of performance vs features. I will go for speed so 6 is my choice. Battery life and stability are also my prime concerns.

i think dhiru's cm9 is faster than others ....
Each custom Roms have their own limitations and bugs, especially ICS Roms.
I suggest u weigh each rom on ur own and install the one that is best suited to ur daily usage requirement.
in my personal view, CM9a11 is good as well as RemICS.
Although RemICS will have battery drain problem, use vurrut kernal on RemICS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653795) and u will have a good battery.
Rem-JB v2 isn't bad either, been using it as everyday rom. Suprisingly smooth considering it is still alpha 1JB by Dhiru. Found litle bug here n there but nothing annoying.

It honestly depends on what you want in a ROM as what works for me won't be good for you. Right now am running the Avatar ROM which is CM 10.1 with MIUI themes which is stable for me but like all ROMs you might not have the same experience.
Stable
Official cyanogenmods are usually stable. You can look on their site to find their downloads if you're confused by the unofficia; vs official. Other than that as was previously stated, test out the rom (I usually give the rom a week to see what issues may be present) and use that to determine features you may like. If you want recommendations on roms I would say AOSPA (Paranoid Android), AOKP, Cyanogenmod, carbon rom, rootbox, liquidsmooth(but you already used that), Blackbean(You can try 7, but 8 is on the way), and that's pretty much it, also don't completely turn away from unofficial builds yet. Read the forums and find out about them a little. I've been running an unofficial rootbox with cherrypicks for the last two weeks and it is rock solid for example. Hopefully this helps you out with you decision. Have fun and happy flashing

I haven't tried Paranoid. I can say that Slimbeans is very stable, fast and beautifully constructed. You really won't find any problems that don't exist in the 4.22 ROMs, as a whole.

From what I'm gathering in the forums, the stable release if Liquid is coming... Soon... Rejoice and be glad of it.
For me AOKP and Eclipse were the most stable. So it depends on your phone n your setup also preferences

basically, the differences between CM9 (ICS) and CM10 (JB) is this:
CM9 has an official kernel whereas CM10 has a hacked-in version. it works, but if we could ever get an official JB kernel, we would have CM10.1
CM10 added the JB goodies that CM9 lacked with ICS, such as Google Now, multi-users (for tablets), expanded notifications, android beam, etc etc.
back in the day (before the Blaze got ICS official), we were dead in the water for ROMs. thomas.raines, dr4stic and erikmm were pretty much the only active devs that were making an attempt once k0nane and shabby were chased out. once it dropped, erikmm was incorporating the official kernel into his CM9 unofficial and dr4stic was hacking the ICS kernel to fit his CM10 unofficial. it was a race to see who would get official first and for a few days, it got REALLY exciting but with CyanogenMod, once a device is ready for CM10, they drop support for CM9, so erikmm's just kinda fizzled off the radar after a couple months. not to take away from erikmm's skillz, he's a helluva dev and I love everything he's ever done with the blaze
