Does it seem to anyone else that the screen on this phone doesn't always register input as consistently or quickly as it should?
Is this a software or hardware issue?

I'm wondering the same thing. For instance the keyboard seems to have trouble with registering a keypress on the same key that just worked fine the press before. Granted I just got the phone yesterday and I'm in my learning curve, and it's still stock. Lovin my ns4g with no bloat either way ;-)

I just posted about this. Didn't seem as bad until I rooted the phone, but that was within about three hours of getting it. It's annoying as hell, right? My thread is in the General Forum. ugh.
The screen is definitely not as sensitive as HTC screens. And I agree, it's annoying.
My screen was to sensitive before update but saying HTC has more sensitivity touch screens I beg to differ
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine is so sensitive that I don't even have to touch the screen, it will register a touch if I hover just above it.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
what update is this you're referring to?
mine also does the hover thing. I'm getting very annoyed with this...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I know the feeling, mine seems to be solely limited to the pre-call dialer. On the dialer it works like a 15 year old palm pilot. Everything else is hyper sensitive. It works fine when in a call.

Is there a setting to change the touchscreen sensitivity on the Nexus S?
I have noticed when the screen is hot it doesn't register keys pressed, I always end up hitting the "." Its quite annoying but j do however love the phone
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Is there somewhere on the phone to set the sensitivity?
Mine falls into the "So sensative that it registers a touch when I hover my finger over it".
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I apologize if I'm a little cranky but no one seems to see my question. Is there ANY SETTING available for the sensitivity of the touchscreen?

No setting that i know of. I believe some kernels adjust sensitivity but its one setting built in not adjustable. I am running netatchy kernel and responsiveness is amazing.

Yep that is true, sometimes it depends of the ROM or Kernel you have.
Hello, fellow Nexus S owners. I am resurrecting the thread because I found myself in a similar situation.
But first some history and details - I own a I9023 handset and have been using stock ROM since it came out (JZO54K). Couple of days ago I noticed that the lower part of the screen (the line right above the hardware buttons) is less responsive and sometimes even unresponsive. This makes it really annoying when trying to call somebody and nothing happens when I try to launch the dialer. The same behavior is observed throughout the whole row this includes even applications button. When texting the same things happens.
At first I thought that this could be due to me installing a "Temple Run" kind of game, but I wiped it, rebooted and the problem remains.
What do you think? Could this be a hardware problem or software one?
Your digitizer might be dying.
It's also known that while charging the phone with the wrong charger the screen goes crazy, but then, unplugging the phone will usually solve the issue.

Luckily the device is still under warranty so I will take it to my vendor for repair. Maybe then I will have some info on what's happening.
I had a similar problem a while back when my battery started to die. I've never experienced any touch screen wackiness caused by third-party chargers, but this seemed to be a comparable issue albeit in the opposite direction. So in addition to my battery losing charge real quick touches wouldn't register in the bottom half of the screen.
hello, i have samsung captivate i897, it warks good, but sometimes, when i'm using phone, sometimes touchscreen doesn't have any reaction, i should lock and unlock whit power button, and then it's ok. i tryed stock 2.1 2.3.5 roms, and custom aopk 4.0.1 and now i have 4.1.1 but same problem.. when i had 2.1 version this problem was very rarely. what can i do? pls help me.
please someone help me:
Cm9 works really good.

it may just be a lag in response due to busy state. have you tried waiting a minute or two when the screen goes unresponsive? the fact that it is worse with later os suggests it.

Do you have an aftermarket off brand phone case installed? Sometimes the edges of them hang over the screen and can trigger your multiple pressure points.

nop i havn't.. maybe it is problem of bootloaders? or kernel? no idea??
Hi,
I have been using ICS rom (various flavours) and noticed an odd thing while unlocking the screen to use the homescreen during daylight.
As soon as i unlock it (whether stock unlock screen or magiclocker) the touch sensitivity goes for a toss.. if i click on dialer icon, the click doesnt get recognized and few seconds later "delete to recyclebin" option is shown on the clicked icon.. and the whole touch screen becomes unresponsive..
There is no complete way to come out of this situation.. one workaround is lock the screen again by pressing power key and then unlock it..few times.. . Worst case, kill all apps and reclaim memory.. and lock and unlock again.. but the issue appears out of nowhere when we want to use the phone on urgent purposes.. like calling someone or picking up a call..
For this reason, i downgraded my phone to gingerbread ZSLE6 and with ardatdat kernel 1.8.3, this issue is still there.
I dont know if this issue is reported earlier or a known issue. Searched the forum and got no results on our forum for SGR.
Kindly share if someone of you have seen it and if there are any workarounds for the same.
Another note is: This issue appears only in daylight.. and in outdoors when sun is shining.. but never came across when at home..!!
Thanks..
Could your hands be sweaty? From my experience water or sweat interferes with the touch screen...
It's sweat for sure!
Zsle6 with 1.8.1 kernel..u ll never face this prob..

Buddy sweaty hands or q dirty screen guard are the reason 110% sure.
I was having this problem when i had a clear screen guard for my SGR.
Someone suggested me a matte screen guard and now the problem of frequent beserk screen has gone down by 95%.
Try wiping the screen before you use it and do not use dirty/wet hands
That makes the screen operate as if some ghost is operating it.
Touch something..something else happens

I'm positively sure this is a software bug n had nothing to do with d screen guard..on zsle6 i never gave dis prob no matter how wet my hands r..

Buddy where did u get matte screen guard from for our device?
Even i wanted to know.if possible not on ebay..i don't have a card

Hi folks .
Actually I dry my thumb before I touch the screen! (Rub my thumb with pant ).
But somehow I have seen the entire touch screen area becomes unresponsive even when everything looks dry. What I do is I lock and wipe entire screen off and retry but same issue.
At house or in office indoors touch has no issues at all.
looks like touch on bright sunlight behaves odd on my phone. Let me go to kernel 1.8.1 and check.
btw, why 1.8.1 is better than 1.8.3 ?

Haahahahah...
Actually what happened..even i did not get the matte for my SGR..
Then i came up with this brilliant idea of using the matte guard of SGS2
Because the screen size is almost the same..everything is JUST THE SAME.
So the shopkeeper used the Matte guard..and just cut off like a tiny bit from the centre button (cuz our centre button is slightly bigger than that of the SGS2)
so you can use SGS2's matte guard It works awesomely No such touch issues faced yet..its been a month now..No matter how wet sticky dirty my hands are

Hey guys, just wondering. Is anyone else our there who has upgraded to JB and started to have his lock screen rotate all the time even when the auto rotation is off? It seems to be happening to mine and is causing quite a lag on unlocking.. -.-. It didn't have this problem when I was on ICS.

I'm on official OEM 4.1.2 rooted with clockwork mod and I noticed the same thing today. At first I thought I had turned screen rotation on but when I checked it was off. Only seems to affect the lock screen though.
from day one, I have had this since August, my 8013 has always done this, and I mean every time I pick it up in the morning, it is in portrait and it takes 1-2 seconds to reorientate itself and respond to an unlock swipe. behaves exactly the same on JB as it did on ICS. it's the only hiccup this baby has at all, and does not bother me in any way. just quirky. gives it personality
I had this problem also on my nexus 7, with 4.2.1, and now on my Note with 4.1.1/german version. It only appears on youtube, not on mainly screen, or in movie player, but it's annoying!
Anyone Found a solution?

If you turn the device to standby when it is in portrait then it restarts in portrait. If you switch to standby in landscape then it restarts in landscape. No matter what the actual tablet orientation is.
I found it only happens when I have certain apps running in the background. YouTube is one that causes it.
Run YouTube, lock the tablet without closing the app and the screen will rotate once you awaken it.

Not really a solution but I just disable the lock screen all in all. The lag was making me angry specially when I do have to take a quick note and bam, you get stuck in the lock screen. Now it just opens to the home screen or whatever it was on before.
screen rotation at lock screen
GT-8010, 4.1.2, rooted, changed cwm, official Belgium rom (JZ054K.N8010XXUCMA8)
Always use the note in landscape, screen rotation is off, every time I take it up, it switches between portrait and landscape depending on the angle.
If there is a fix I am interested.
I have no idea where to start for a solution.
regards,
I've been using my Galaxy Nexus for the last two years. I have never really noticed any kind of "touch lag" during this time.
I just purchased a Nexus 5, rooted, installed TWRP 2.6.3.4 and also flashed the Dec.12 2013 version of Cataclysm
I recently noticed after about 2 days of use that:
Typing in general is normal, the keyboard reacts to my touch instantaneously
Games, or any other usage of the touchscreen seems to have about a 200ms touch lag. Whereas the Galaxy Nexus never had this issue.
Asphalt 8 is not playable due to this, the calculator app lags like crazy, or even just hitting the menu button.
Note: I noticed asphalt 8 was not playable before I did any rooting or flashing - however at that time I couldn't figure out the reason.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I found that increasing the pointer speed may have helped a little. I disabled the vibration and sound on touch as well, that may have helped, but it still feels slow in calculator...
edit: Ok maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. It may not be 200ms but more like more like 70ms

I'm just guessing roundabout, really. It's not like I timed it or anything.
I thought it was frustrating because I couldn't play even play CopyCat (the game where you copy the colors it beeps) without holding each color for a half second before continuing to the next due to the lag.
I found that increasing the pointer speed may have helped a little. I disabled the vibration and sound on touch as well, that may have helped, but it still feels slow in calculator...
do you have any tips for improving it?
edit: I guess the reason I'm complaining is because the lag is near zero when typing on the keyboard. How is it that there is no lag when using the keyboard, but then the lag is present elsewhere?

Ok, so I went ahead and did a nandroid restore. I'm still getting the same thing.
Comparing the older Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 5 on the same Copycat app, just a quick tap on each color using the Galaxy Nexus is enough to see a color illuminate and make the sound. On the Nexus 5, a quick tap renders no illumination or sound, though the game does see it as being pressed.
Yet on both devices, the keyboard response seems to be equal.

I wonder if this has something to do with the triple tap zoom gesture...?
edit: Solved. The problem was "Magnification Gestures"
The system was trying to wait for a triple tap each time I touched the screen? Not really sure how that all works but... everything is working fine now.
Settings>Accessibility>Magnification gestures>Off
fixed it all.
Whew. I was so worried! Thanks for keeping up with me Mark
