[Q] Camera/Gallery Problem - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
I'm having trouble with the camera of my TF700. When i try to open the camera, the camera still show up but with the black screen. After waiting for a while, it got frozen and i got a message "Gallery isn't responding. Do you want to close it". When i close it and reopen it, it shows the message "Camera error: Can't connect to the camera"
My gallery is still working fine. I still can be able to access to the picture on my SD card.
My Infinity is rooted and ROM CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.5
I did the factory reset, cold boot, wipe cache, fix permission. None is working.
I installed Skype to see whether the video is working. It's NOT. I tried 3rd party camera apps. They dont work either.
I'm lost and do not know how to fix this problem. If anybody knows any method that i can try out to fix this, i would really appreciate it
Thanks

Did your camera work before rooting and/or installing CROMIX? Did it ever work on CROMIX? If its not the ROM it sounds like broken camera hardware. If so you'll have to send it back to Asus for repair. Unfortunately you are unlocked and have voided your warranty hence the only reason I'm still locked for the warranty period.

I got this from a friend. It work once when i did the factory reset. After that time, it didnot work. Thus, i was thinking if i root it and use different Custom rom it might fix the problem.

Sounds like you need to do a full wipe. If it ever worked doing a factory reset then its not a hardware problem its a software problem. But you said "it worked once". I assume you mean that it opened and took some pictures, but only once or did it work for awhile? Are you saying when you opened it a second time like that same day and every time after that it never worked again? If that's the case it still sounds like a hardware failure but possibly something else corrupted your camera software shortly after your factory reset. I would do a nandroid backup (Online Nandroid Backup rocks) then a full wipe then a nandroid restore. I would suggest you also get some other inputs on this problem as I am far from an expert and don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.

Its exactly what u said. It work once. I took some pictures with it. I closed it and reopen it shortly after in the same day and the problem starts. At that time my device not even rooted. How do u do a full wipe. I used CWM to wipe but it doesnt go away. Im suspecting its the hardware problem however there is no way for me to be sure. If its the hardware problem, would replacing the camera will solve the problem? I cant send it to asus. Not much of the option here

If you already wiped from recovery then that's the one. And you did a factory reset. And the problem occurred before you rooted and on the same day it once worked. I'd say its hardware. But it could be anything from a bad controller chip to a bad shutter motor to a loose or bad ribbon cable. You'd have to trouble shoot the all aspects of the camera hardware platform to fix the problem. You could take it apart to see if you saw something obvious like a loose ribbon, but its not as easy as just swapping out the camera itself.
Asus does non warranty repairs, they are just costly. You certainly can send it back to Asus. That's what I would recommend.

I sort of figure out my problem but still have no cure for it. I downgrade it back to ICS and the camera once again works for a bit and when i tried to open and use it again in the same day, it said the firmware need to be updated. However, asus firmware update failed. I cannot update the camera firmware. I went through the upgrade again to lastest jellybean from asus website. It still shows that the camera firmware need to be updated.
I notice that during the time i flash back and forth, the camera firmware did not change at all. It shows TF700T-FFFFFFF. I think it's the camera firmware problem
However, i could not find a way to update the firmware manually. Any thought on this one?
Thanks

Lost touch screen control

OK, now I have a problem.
If I turn my xoom off and then on again the touchscreen will not respond to any input, only hardware buttons work.
If I hold volume up and power button to restart, it restarts and everything works OK. I can but it to sleep and wake it up and still everything works. Everything works until I turn it off and on again, then the problem returns and I need to hold volume up and power button to restart it again to get the touch screen working.
I searched the net but didn't find anything similar.
Any ideas?
is it still stock or you rooted / update kernel ?

Its complitly stock wifi only Xoom, bought from US about two weeks old.
I tried Factory reset, it didn't change anything.
Strange thing is that volume up and power reset fixes it every time. And it works fine until i turn it off again. What does this volume up and power button command do exactly, soft reset? If soft reset fixes it, it can't be a hardware problem or can it?
If I were you I would return it cuz to me that sounds like a defect with your xoom. But if u messed with it (rooting/unlocking) they won't even touch it.

Like i already said, i haven't messed with it, it's completely stock.
About returning it... The problem is that i'm in Europe and i bought my Xoom from US, so i'm not really excited about sending it back.
Is it somehow possible to install the current android 3.0.1 rom again? Without unlocking and rooting?
I do not know if it works on the xoom but other tablets have a calibration ini file that you can place on the root of your SD card and reboot letting it recalibrate the touch screen? Let me know and I can send that to you?

Thanks for trying to help! I'm not sure i want to mess with this yet. I talked to Motorola about my problem and the seemed very interested in my problem, so i will wait and see what they suggest.
Any news from there? I have a similar situation here (malfunctioning touchscreen, and I'm from Europe).
You can read my story here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036009
My malfunctioning is slightly different from yours, but I'm interested in what Motorola says for a problem like this.

Really? I haven't seen anything like my problem in forums, and everyone told me that my problem is "strange" :S
However, just in case, have you thought about how to return the Xoom from Europe to US? Or are you directly talking with Motorola to file a RMA practice? After all, we should have one year of international warranty by Motorola, isn't it?

In fact someone from Motorola US contacted me and offered help, so I can't really say anything bad about Motorola, they are really friendly and helpful. They offered to replace my Xoom, but later discovered that i'm not in US and suggested that I should be able to get a replacement from europe.
Before I was contacted by Motorola US, I sent a email to Motorola UK and they also apologized for the problems I had and offered to replace my Xoom, only problem is that they don't have any in stock at the moment, so I have to wait about two weeks.
As my Xoom works great after I force reboot it, it's not a problem for me to wait, I can use my Xoom until I get a replacement.
I would like to thank Motorola for the great support that they have offered me and I will update this thread when my issue is resolved.
But back to your problem, I suggest that you contact your nearest Motorola office, i'm sure they will try to help you.

I'm trying to do it right now
A little update.
I have been using my faulty Xoom for over two weeks now. I didn't turn it off so it worked until today. Today i tried to install a app from Market and My apps crashed, so i tried to stop it and this caused Launcer to FC (Does Launcer FC cause a automatic reboot?). The screen went black and in about 20 seconds it did show me the lock screen and i had no touch screen control. So i force rebooted it and now it doesn't even start up anymore, it's stuck on boot animation.
So it's starting to get really frustrating... I'm even considering to buy another Xoom, but this really isn't a solution, i have no use for two (if i ever get a replacement).
Has anyone any ideas? Why is it now stuck on boot animation, doesn't this look like a software problem? Is there any way to push clean images to it without unlocking? I understand that unlocking will void my warranty?
Is it possible to flash the official stock images without unlocking?
Ok, i got it to boot up again. I did Wipe data/factory reset and now it boots up again, but still no touch control.
And it seems that i have confirmed that doing too many force reboots will mess up the system.
BTW, there is a way to get into Android recovery on WIFI only Xoom, i wish i had known this before, "adb reboot recovery" works.
Can someone please answer my question, is it possible to flash the official stock images without unlocking? Maybe that will fix my touch screen control problem...
I've having this same issue but mine is worse.. the touchscreen is not working AT ALL.. only the power button works..
I can restart the xoom with the volume up power button but after it restarts still no response from the touchscreen!
What can I do to fix this?
Any help would be appreciated..

[Q] Camera App not working at all!

Anyone else having this issue. My camera isnt working no matter what I try. When I hit the camera icon it goes into a black screen and stays there. Only button that works after that point is the home button.
So far I've tried virusrom, bamf, and 2 different sense kernals. I even restored a nandroid I had from March and it still does the same thing.
I dont know what cause this but it just happened one day. I noticed it last saturday when I tried to use it. Anyone know of a fix if any?
I had a similar problem with my front facing camera. I went into applications, selected All, clicked on camera and cleared the cache. It fixed my problem. Hope it works for you.

As a last resort, go back to stock and see if it still happens, if so, it's a hardware problem and you can call up VZW and get them to ship you a replacement.
Should I unroot the phone or just go to a stock Rom.

I would go to the MR1 OTA. At least then if it doesn't work after that, you don't have to do anything to take it in or send it back.
Clear it. Do it.
have the same problem. i even went back to stock. unrooted the phone. still dont work. verizon will replace it under warranty. just make sure everything is stock.

Does your camera freeze up?

i need to know if this a hardware issue or software. every 2 days or so my camera wont start . i close everything running and it just freezes up on me. i have nothing crazy installed jsut root, tibu, chase, android game, flashlight. thats it ! i will click the camera icon ill see the screen shake for a second and just go back to home screenl. also sometimes i click the multi task button and clear everything out when i press home it has to load all my widgets again.. this phone is werid...
i bought it online at radioshak for 50 bucks do you guys think i can get a new one in store or do they deal with online only
I had this happen to me twice in a week of use. I'm wondering if another app is not releasing the camera from it's use. I haven't been killing the camera app after use, so maybe it has an issue being open for long.
Other apps that use the camera I may have had open are Instagram, Facebook, Gallery.

i had this issue since i bought the phone. never figured it out. a couple of days ago, the camera just stopped working altogether. it won't start most of the time. when it does start, the image is dark and very distorted. i tried to upgrade from 1.73 to 1.85 and didnt solve the issue. i did a factory reset and it didn't solve the issue. so earlier today, i ended up just exchanging it with a new phone.
Happening to me as we speak!
Made a quick, nasally sounding video.

- Instagram is still able to use the camera.
- If I close them all in multitasking, it doesn't fix it.
- Force stopping Instagram and/or the Camera app doesn't solve it, I have to reboot the phone.
EDIT:
Fast boot is off on my device.

Happens to mine too, about 4 times already. Have to restart the phone to get it to work again. Had the phone for about a month. If the update fixes this and other problems this phone will be perfect.

Try a factory reset. If this doesn't solve the issue, I'd take it back. I've never had any such issues on 1.73, 1.82 or 1.85. I'm inclined to think its either a software issue (like an installed app interfering, as one reply suggested) that a factory reset may clear up, or its a hardware issue.

well, i won't say that your problem was the same as mine but i think mine was definitely a hardware problem. i experienced the problem on 1.73 and 1.85, rooted and unrooted, locked and unlocked, and even after a factory reset. luckily the camera just complete crapped out before my 30-day was up so it was easy to justify the exchange at the at&t store.

Video exactly depicts what happens to me. I will try to open the camera app and it just flashes and kicks me out. I've tried all sorts of things to alleviate the problem but the only solution I've found is restarting the phone. Pretty annoying....
The display HOX at the AT&T store had the same issue. I'm assuming this is software related but who knows
this happened the first week I had the phone. When I updated it to 1.82 the issue went away so I'm assuming it was software

Well if it was a software issue, factory reset is worth a try. However if its something that needs to be fixed in a future update (a bug) then going back to factory shouldn't help. And thats why the OP had another thread about how to update.
Crizthakidd, have you tried other camera apps from google play? I know you said you were going to. How did that go, if you did? Obviously if there's a software issue, even if factory reset doesn't fix it, xda can. That is, root, unlock, install a newer custom rom.
I had this problem on 1.72, and other apps were still ok using the camera. I made a quick video of it happening.

***Ever since the 1.85 OTA it hasn't been happening so I would suggest HTC fixed it. ***
However I am rooted and doing mods so I am restarting more often to check my work.

3rd party cameras causing flash defect?

I'm on my 4th VZW SGS3 (stock ROM, not rooted) because of this camera problem, and it's happened again. When trying to take a photo with flash, the phone would apparently shut off. It can only be started after pulling the battery. On my previous VZW SGS3, I found that the problem occurred on a new phone after installing a 3rd party camera. A factory rest did not fix the problem.
Today I wanted to take a panoramic photo do installed a camera app made for that. Then I remembered the 3rd party camera issue I had before and discovered that it occurred again. I'm reluctant to have to return another phone, and hoping someone might know what's going on do I can fix this one. I was told by the insurance company that it's not a known issue (my first phone got a chipped screen, which seemed like a possible cause for the flash apparently causing a hardware failure), but that is weird since I can reproduce it so easily. Does anyone know what might be going on with this, and whether it can be fixed?
It's hard to believe that installing any 3rd party camera app on a non-rooted phone would permanently damage it.

Since you are stock the only thing you can do is Odin stock factory image and see if it fixes it. Also the stock camera does panorama.

I might try that. Thank you. I hadn't realized that this would be more complete than a factory reset via settings.
It seems strange that I've had this occur on four of these devices but couldn't find any mention online. Apparently this phone can't install third party camera apps without corrupting the camera flash function. I wonder if there is a way to fix that so any camera app can be run.

[Q] T-mobile HTC One S "Process system no responding" and no sound or video playback

[Q] T-mobile HTC One S "Process system no responding" and no sound or video playback
I've had the HTC One for a couple of months and ran into an odd problem which I couldn't find any help for online. An error message pops up with the following message "Process system is not responding". At this point the phone freezes and the only option is to reboot using the power button. After re-boot if the error message doesn't come up (usually a few reboots are required), there is no sound (even on phone calls) and either video playback doesn't work or the player speeds through the video (almost like 4x or 8x forwarding). After 5 to 10 reboots (although that number seems to be going up recently) I'll get the phone to work correctly, only for the problem to reoccur a few hours later. As of late the problem seems to occur when I tried to answer a call or right after a missed call.
The phone is completely stock and unrooted. I'm a total noob so I'm not sure what other details I need to provide. If anyone has experienced this issue or can shed any light on the matter that would be greatly appreciated!
Re: [Q] T-mobile HTC One S "Process system no responding" and no sound or video playb
This may not be a solution to your problem but its definitely worth to try.
1. Backup all your data.
System -->backup and restore
Backup your sdcard (fotos,music, etc.)
2. Do factory reset in
System -->backup and restore -->reset phone
After that set up your phone. Restore apps only from your Google account ( i.e. clean install from Google play).
If this won't sort out your problem go thru warranty and get it fixed.
Let us know how you got on.

Thanks for the advice but I've already tried multiple factory resets (forgot to mention that). None of them helped. As far as the warranty goes, I bought the phone off of some guy on Craigslist and I'm pretty sure he's not going to cover anything.
hey did you ever solve this problem? I am having the exact same issue right now.
No.. I found some links which helped temporarily but nothing that solved the issue ( let me know if you're interested and I'll dig up the solutions)..I ended up buying a new phone. Let me know if you're able to find a solution.

I'm having the same problem I'm thinking of re-locking my phone running the ruu AGAIN making it s-on and sending it back and paying the difference for a new phone.
I have:
-relocked phone
-ran ruu successfully
-booted up
And I still am getting the bootloop on tmobiles rom so I don't think this is an issue with something we did it seems like a hardware issue or something along those lines like something is failing.
If anybody finds out anything else let us know
