When I install a weather app the GPS lock times become unreliable, if it locks at all. (CM9 with Proton) I tried turning off the location detection on the ones with the choice, but still...
Any suggestions on what to try next troubleshooting that behaviour?

How does your GPS fair with Google maps and in GPS tools app?

Like I described. Slow or no lock with weather apps, pretty good without.

Well if it is working on other apps sounds like gmaps, etc then the weather app itself isn't up to par...that's all I can offer hopefully someone else can chime in more to help you.

What I mean to say is, with the different WX apps I've installed, Maps and other GPS apps don't get a reliable lock. Without WX, works pretty well.

If your maps or GPS apps aren't working right try AGPS patch that a on the forums. Another alternative is to try GPS aids app or GPS doctor app. They might fix it for you.
My GPS was not working properly I used those two apps and now I am around 5-8 meters accuracy with about 10-20second lock.
If anything it might just be the rom.

I'm actually having this problem as well with bionix frost. Everything else works flawlessly.

I think I'm gonna apply the old fix later and it should work ok. I'll post the result regardless.

I applied the sgstools fix, enabled the gps, but nav still would not lock on. So I opened maps, let it find my location and settle in until it was accurate, the opened up navigation and it worked fine... No more "Searching for GPS"
Might work for you also...and it's an easy fix.

I see that other people in the black ice thread are having the same problem but I can't share your fix with them as I don't have enough posts for permission in the developer theads...would you share this with them? Thanks again

Hmm. This fix worked for a few minutes, but when I restart the phone, no more gps lock/navigation. Weird. Thanks for the info.

i followed the instructions using launcher pro and set it to "auto" and it seemed to work. i still have to wait a while to get a lock sometimes, but thats tmobiles fault. they suck in my area. hope this helps anyone else having this problem.
EDIT: It only works once. does anyone else have the locking problem for bionix frost? i can try to reflash my phone and see if that fixes it.
Going to Vegas tomorrow and needing the best rom with the most reliable GPS any ideas on what worked best for them?

Google maps always works best for me in big cities.

For me its been stock using Google navigation.

I'm fairly certain the application used is irrelevant, the GPS gets the same result no matter what. ROM might influence it, but I've never noticed a difference.
I vote for Google Maps in any case.
If I leave gps off, my battery is great an maps doesn't show up in battery usage. But if I leave gps on, I get this. I've never touched latitude so not sure why this is happening.

Do you have Google Now installed? Mine started showing up once I installed Now because it would look for my location.
But my battery hasn't suffered at all, really. Maps just shows up now

No don't have Google now. I went into settings in maps and then location settings. I then turned location reporting to do not report. I'm gonna try this an see if it fixes it.

Hey I was reading earlier about the possibility of being tracked if you let someone use your phone since they can install a tracking app that could use your GPS without you knowing.so my question is, assuming that they already installed a spying app, could it use my GPS without having the GPS icon displayed in my notification bar?

What's the best way to get GPS to work properly? It takes me anywhere from 4-6 mins for a lock. And while it's trying to lock on, the battery just drains. I use GPS tool to get a lock and trying to cold start it. What's everyone's solution to this?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
For me 100% reliable: use GPS status to download AGPS data>reboot (must be outside obviously)>use GPS status to get lock>use location app of choice.
Also, on March Baseband, I get GPS locks on the bus moving down the street. If need a functional GPS you really need to be on the newer baseband.

I on V21Y. That worked pefectly. Thanks!
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
NP. Yea, it's stupid, no reason I can see for the need to reboot, but GPS lock seems dependent on it.
