GPS question - T-Mobile LG G2x

What's the best way to get GPS to work properly? It takes me anywhere from 4-6 mins for a lock. And while it's trying to lock on, the battery just drains. I use GPS tool to get a lock and trying to cold start it. What's everyone's solution to this?

For me 100% reliable: use GPS status to download AGPS data>reboot (must be outside obviously)>use GPS status to get lock>use location app of choice.
Also, on March Baseband, I get GPS locks on the bus moving down the street. If need a functional GPS you really need to be on the newer baseband.

I on V21Y. That worked pefectly. Thanks!

NP. Yea, it's stupid, no reason I can see for the need to reboot, but GPS lock seems dependent on it.

GPS not locking

GPS no longer locks after flashing black ice. Should I be using the old original GPS fix? BTW...best ROM ever...Krylon/Team Whiskey rocks!!!

I'm actually having this problem as well with bionix frost. Everything else works flawlessly.

I think I'm gonna apply the old fix later and it should work ok. I'll post the result regardless.

I applied the sgstools fix, enabled the gps, but nav still would not lock on. So I opened maps, let it find my location and settle in until it was accurate, the opened up navigation and it worked fine... No more "Searching for GPS"
Might work for you also...and it's an easy fix.

Thanks for the tip...I tried your method and it seemed to fix my problem...I just took a drive and so far so good.

I see that other people in the black ice thread are having the same problem but I can't share your fix with them as I don't have enough posts for permission in the developer theads...would you share this with them? Thanks again

i searched for sgs tools on the market and it only came up with the capitavate sgs tools. is this the program which you guys are using?
That is correct

Hmm. This fix worked for a few minutes, but when I restart the phone, no more gps lock/navigation. Weird. Thanks for the info.

for future reference, check out this thread:

i followed the instructions using launcher pro and set it to "auto" and it seemed to work. i still have to wait a while to get a lock sometimes, but thats tmobiles fault. they suck in my area. hope this helps anyone else having this problem.
EDIT: It only works once. does anyone else have the locking problem for bionix frost? i can try to reflash my phone and see if that fixes it.

Best GPS?

Going to Vegas tomorrow and needing the best rom with the most reliable GPS any ideas on what worked best for them?

Google maps always works best for me in big cities.

For me its been stock using Google navigation.

I'm fairly certain the application used is irrelevant, the GPS gets the same result no matter what. ROM might influence it, but I've never noticed a difference.
I vote for Google Maps in any case.

Maps using battery when gps on?

If I leave gps off, my battery is great an maps doesn't show up in battery usage. But if I leave gps on, I get this. I've never touched latitude so not sure why this is happening.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Do you have Google Now installed? Mine started showing up once I installed Now because it would look for my location.
But my battery hasn't suffered at all, really. Maps just shows up now
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
No don't have Google now. I went into settings in maps and then location settings. I then turned location reporting to do not report. I'm gonna try this an see if it fixes it.

GPS inaccuracy

Its better to look at a map then use this gps it just gets you lost. Am I the only one?

I just noticed that also. It's really off. It was spot on before the update. Anyone else?

Yes my device has seemed flawless until driving home tonite and the gps showed tight link but navigation was way off because it had me jumping around about 2000m off actual location.

I literally just drove to Boston and back. Gps is accurate as it can be. No problems here. And I'm a cab driver so I use it pretty often.

I am providing this link and you can decide yourselves what you want to do. According to the thread, the S4 is not listed under the "supported phones" list, however, the OP of this thread I am listing states that if you Email him, he will consider porting support. It already works for the S3 and many other devices so it shouldn't take much if anything to make it work with the S4. I suggest you read the entire thread before trying anything or asking questions. Maybe this will help:

You might also consider an App such as "GPS Status and toolbox" from the Play Store. It might help.
Did you install the update?

I just downloaded the app gps status test and fix from play store and it looks to have totally fixed the problem for me

i am on the new update and the GPS inaccuracy happened for me in a LTE area. how many of you with this problem are in a LTE area when this happens?
maybe in that time, your device only accees the AGPS to get your location.and hold on when phone find the gps satellite you will get the most nearst location
I'm in an LTE area and my gps has been flawless to within 5 meters, before and after the update.

GPS Borked with weather apps??

When I install a weather app the GPS lock times become unreliable, if it locks at all. (CM9 with Proton) I tried turning off the location detection on the ones with the choice, but still...
Any suggestions on what to try next troubleshooting that behaviour?

How does your GPS fair with Google maps and in GPS tools app?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Like I described. Slow or no lock with weather apps, pretty good without.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Well if it is working on other apps sounds like gmaps, etc then the weather app itself isn't up to par...that's all I can offer hopefully someone else can chime in more to help you.

What I mean to say is, with the different WX apps I've installed, Maps and other GPS apps don't get a reliable lock. Without WX, works pretty well.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
If your maps or GPS apps aren't working right try AGPS patch that a on the forums. Another alternative is to try GPS aids app or GPS doctor app. They might fix it for you.
My GPS was not working properly I used those two apps and now I am around 5-8 meters accuracy with about 10-20second lock.
If anything it might just be the rom.
