Can someone give me an idea on a better option of a carrier? I have simple mobile but the data is so extremely slow. Anyone know where a better option would be? Gettin rid of my cappy,isn't happening lol

At&t has good coverage, in exchange for your wallet and first born.

Att is not that bad if you have a friend/buddy right you up on a corporate discount. I'm saving 20% by "working" for Coke.

Ahh, too true. I've known some buddies employed with them. Amazing discounts. And they do let you have android devices now, instead of just the iPhone.

I have a droid x with a bad esn. My buddy lost it and the insurance company sentt him a new one and when he found it he gave it to me. Im trying to find a quide on how to flash it to another carrier but I can't find one anywhere

a droid x will only work on CDMA networks.....and will likely ONLY work on verizon.

Well see I'm not quite 18 so I can't get a phone In my name yet and I've been in four contracts and was the only one who payed the bill. So for another 5 months I'm stuck trying to find a good prepaid deal. And it would be nice to have decent working internet. I'm wanting to go back to at&t but I think there prices are fixing to go up once they buy out t mobile

Don't think anyone knows but i hope they get it.

Don't know either but my fingers are crossed. My guess is that aosp is a little too "open" for Verizon's likes.

Currently I don't care for an pure google phone becuase i'd probably root it and installed CM7. But it would be nice to get one.

They bent over backwards for Apple because they have been kicking themselves since they passed on the iPhone the first time. They saw the chance to steal a big amount of AT&T iPhone users and jumped. Now if they actually stole a lot of AT&T iPhone users is a different matter. I don't think they stole that many so far. I think when the next iPhone comes out, they will see a big influx.

What do you mean? Google phones are MADE for rooting and flashing custom ROMs.... and in fact the Nexus 1 and Nexus S both have CM7.

I said what I said because Verizon changed their closed ways for a iphone... Not sure why they wouldn't do it for an Android phone. The nexus phones are sellers as well and if they really want to take away users from all carriers (not just at&t) they need to have one in their line up.
They will be able to take advantage of having the fastest network (while they still can) with a 4G nexus phone.
Talk about killing it! They would rape the competition having an iPhone and a 4G nexus phone.
The time is now if they are smart.

xoom was only stock because they didnt have time to mess it up, not because moto was trying to be ambivalent. They wanted to rush it out before the ipad2.

Why. I had a nexus one running cm7 and now I have a Tbolt running cm7. Yes there's a lot of development support for the device but im happy with the tbolt.

So, my teen daughter is getting a phone for x-mas.

It just arrived through ups.
Its the LG G2X, and I'm extremely jealous looking at all the cool features it has, not to mention it's dual core.
I just took it out of the box, and looked at it.
Didn't turn it on or anything, because, well, its her Christmas present...
So i am pleading to you guys to give me some good reasons why I shouldn't stick my phone in that box, and pretend that's the new phone she got, while I sneakly keep the g2x as if it has been my phone all along.

Octane 3.0 themed version. Gotta wait until its available and you've tried it before jumping ship Other than that, umm I moved to a G2X myself. But I still have the SGS4G. Umm reasons to stay with it..... battery lasts noticeably longer, screens brighter, speakers alot louder! Other than that I love my G2X

Yeah, the g2x does look pretty badass.
Oh well, guess I'll just have to be satisfied with modding and hacking it for her, lol.
Best of all is, it was free, just by adding it to my family plan.

I would swap it. Seriously.

Nah, I think there's still some life to come onto this phone yet.
I have been around since the kb5 enhanced days, and i know we go through slow periods here, but there is always something new on the horizon.

Well, she got lucky they are giving them away for free.
I mean it would be kind of stupid getting a lesser quality phone for the same price ($0), just so my phone would be better.

My dad gave me a g1 when he had a blackberry pearl that was old and my mom had a verizon pay phone. Yes, he payed contract price for it. So ya, you should be as kind as that. Also, my dad also gave me the SGS4g, but my whole family has an SGS4g

She just got her from Brazil this year, and has made tremendous progress in learning English, and getting good grades in school.
And ill be happy with modding the phone to her taste.
Just likei do to my wife.
In a way, this is still a present for me, because the most enjoyment i get of a phone is modding it.

ICS

Do you think Samsung will ever put Ice Cream Sandwich on the charge or we stuck with Gingerbread? if not, Will the developers here ever be able to develop ICS for the charge? The reason I ask is because the new Verizon contracts eliminate unlimited data and in order to keep it, I'm looking at buying phones outright to avoid signing a new contract. I know things can change between now and next spring when I become upgrade eligable, but I don't feel so lucky.
If Verizon does not change plans do you think it's worth looking at Sprint or is this a downgrade network and/or equipment wise?

ICS is working on the phone...sorta. CM9 is almost fully functional, but there's no mobile data, so it isn't usable as a daily driver. For it to become fully functional, the RIL needs to be fully cracked, and there's just no motivation for devs to work that hard on the RIL this phone. It's bleeding users (me including), and no other phones (other than some prepay variants) use the same radios, so there's really not much to gain. I don't think jt has given up, but I just don't think it's a priority.
I'd bet money that Samsung/Verizon will never release ICS. There isn't enough room for a TouchWiz version of ICS on /system, and you can bet that they won't release a Google Experience version.
Edit: You can do like I did and check out swappa.com. I bought a used device from there and had a fantastic shopping experience and got a great phone in great condition for a fair price. Can't say enough good things about that site.

I'm in the same boat right now. I have unlimited data and don't want to give it up, but paying for an un-subsidized phone is just insane. Really wish we had ICS on our phones, but I'm still hoping and praying that a dev could help us poor souls

Its not insane. Your full retail phone will give you peace of mind. Never having nightmares waking up at 4am in a cold sweat because you dreamed having gone over your data by 20gb. I sold my charge for 200 bought my sgs3 for 500 .

Craigslist. Bought myself a gnex for 250 and an s3 for 375.

I'm scared on craigslist I'm gonna get taken and get some pos that won't work as soon as I take it home haha.

That doesn't mean you're the only one that can read the reply. In an open discussion, responses are read/heard by everyone, and things said can often be more for the benefit of everyone else rather than the person it's directed at. It's a very common debate tactic to speak to the audience through your opponent, but it's useful in any open discussion. He quoted you because yours was the most relevant post.

Hey guys. It's sad for me to say, but I just sold my One X tonight. Someone offered me a price I couldn't refuse. I just bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 so I may also get a Samsung phone to match.
I will miss this community dearly! Like I said in the 'Introduce Yourself' thread, this has been the best experience I've had on XDA since I joined. I hope you guys get JB soon. The wait was tough. If someone wants access to the files of the theme I made a while back I'd be glad to hand it over.

P.S. I usually don't keep a specific phone for too long. I end up getting bored with it no matter how much development there is. It's just that there's so much different tech out there that I try to use as much of it as I can. Maybe it's my OCD, but I think it's just my love for technology lol.

I never thought I'd say this again but I'm actually enjoying the switch a bit. I still have my Note 10.1 to tinker with Android style and this iPhone isn't permanent I don't think.

No problem IPhones is a solid piece of hardware. I have the 4s, if it had a bigger screen I'd use it as a daily phone. But then again I get bored with a device after awhile so I'm thinking of trying win phone 8 for awhile.

Honestly? I just got my replacement One X about a week ago, still flawless. If someone offered me the iPhone 5 in beyond good condition (No cosmetic, good battery, etc.) I would take it. It's a solid piece of hardware.
