Which case do you prefer? - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

My mom wants me to get a case ASAP because she doesn't want me to break my phone but I have no clue which case to get.
I don't want anything bulky, but something that can protect my phone well, maybe not as good as a otterbox but still protective.
And I'm looking for a case that has a good white design to match my white frost S4.
Can you guys recommend me some good cases?
Thanks in advance!
Oh and I've seen a couple that I like but there isn't any feedback on them.
Here they are:
http://www.amazon.com/SPIGEN-SGP-Samsung-Galaxy-Premium/dp/B00BSXXOC4 (not enough protection)
http://www.spigen.com/galaxy-s4-case-neo-hybrid.html (some people say its bulky and feels weird)
If you guys have any of those two above, can you please leave your opinion on them!

I would recommend either the Urban Armor Case or an Otterbox Commuter. The UAG being the slimmer one but they both give excellent protection. Some people might think they are bulky but to me bulky is like the Otterbox Defender or the Cygnett WorkMate.

They look like they can survive a lot of drops lol, but its a little to bulky from the looks of it but thanks I'll keep this case in mind!

What? The Neo Hybrid is in no way bulky. The first link you posted should provide sufficient protection unless you're going to be dropping the phone everday.

The neo hybrid isn't bulky, but it does add a little thickness to the phone. I got used to it quickly though.

+1,000 to the otterbox commuter, and the Cygnett WorkMate.
great recommendations e-flip

I just got this case and I like it a lot! Very form fitting and has a cool Android logo in the back too haha

+1 on the neo hybrid. Mine shipped in today, and i tried it out on my buddies att 24. almost no bulk added, and it looks real sexy. feels high quality too.

I would say the most noticeable for me has been the overall width i.e. from left to right.
Definitely a beautiful case. Just had a lengthy phone conversation and the added width did make it a bit uncomfortable to hold.

The neo hybrid is a fantastic case.
Only drawback is that the holes do the charge port and the headphone socket are so precisely engineered that they only take the original Samsung parts.

Just got my white neo hybrid case. Love it on my white s4. Didnt have a problem with my other chargers in the house like everyone seems to be experiencing. Only grip (not sure if its just mine) is the power and volume buttons. They seem very stiff and cant tell if im pressing them or not. Hopefully they just need to be broken in.

Are you guys experiencing difficulty while pressing the volume keys and power button on the neon case? I know that the post above me stated it. I'm bout to order that one because from what I've read, it seems pretty nice! Does it add any weight? Because I love the light weight of my phone!

My buttons on my neo hybrid are clicky. No difficulty pressing them here. It is fairly light weight.
As I stated earlier the only noticeable thing for me has been the increased width of the phone. I guess if the outer band recessed a bit more into the tpu case it would feel a bit better. Not a deal breaker though.

Did a bit of reading around I'm seeing/reading nothing but praise for the Neo-Hybrid. Decided to go with the Dante Red for my White S4 =3.

I'm going with the white version of the case! Thanks for helping me decide guys!
Oh and i have another question about the neo hybrid case. Can any headphones fit in the microphone port? Like the end of my headphones, it doesn't go straight out, it goes to the side. Not sure how to explain it

I had the Neo Hybrid and sent it back next day, did not like it at all.
Got a Incipio DualPro in black now and love it. Looks nice, buttons nice and responsive (Neo Hybrid was way to responsive, the lightest touch and the volume was going up/down..), ports big enough to support all usb/audio cables and adds a decent amount of protection without being overly bulky (imo).
Will probably change to the Incipio OVRMLD once its released.

TPU case recommendations?

I already have the diztronic tpu case, and its great except for the matte finish. The phone actually has less grip with the case on.
Are their any tpu cases out there with the same style as the diztronic but with a finish that actually provides some grip with still making the buttons easy to use?
the s-line case I bought ages ago has a nice grip to it but the buttons are a nightmare on that thing.

Doesn't diztronic have a glossy one?

Tpu, cut outs for the buttons and pretty grippy. My wife has one for her gs3 and loves it.

I have a S-line one, it works great but I retired it for a bumper. There are grippy surfaces on both sides and the buttons are easy to press. It's a semi glossy and matte finish.
I can probably give it to you if you're from Singapore.

I highly suggest the tpu cases made by mercury. It has a nice grip to it (unless your hands are moist), with a beautiful finish.
There are cutouts for the buttons which is very easy to access.
I currently own both the diztronic and mercury cases, and I personally prefer the diztronic for its grip and ease of button use, and mercury for there nice range of colors and design.

They do protect pretty well and will protect your screen to because there's a lip on the front. Pics I will upload a little later (sorry! I m out of town).
If you're looking for a good strong protective case then the amzers are good but they don't look all that good though....
Sent from my |\|€×u$ 4
Well I got the A2 from cruzerlite (had one from on my one X) and out of driztronic, s-line and A2 the A2 wins.
The driztronic feels like it would offer more protection if the phone was dropped, but you would probably need that extra protection considering the finish they put on it is so slippery that you will be dropping it all time.
So while the cruzerlite does feel a bit thinner it just feels way better in the hand. The button cutouts are the perfect size making it easy to access, and while the buttons on the driztronic case were covered they did give a nice click when pushed. I just found the buttons were too flush with the case making it hard to feel were to push.
I will probably grab one of the mercury cases next just to compare all three of the "good" tpu cases out there.
As for the s-line, it might depend in who you get it from as the molds might be different from different places, but I got so fed up with the buttons on that case that I cut them out myself. What I found was the button covers on the case don't even line up with the buttons properly.

Boxwave TPU: http://amzn.com/B000GGBDF4
just received it and here's my c&p from my amazon review:
Simple, and great looking case that fully protects your nexus 4. The back is a matte finish, while the sides and front are a gloss material which help with grip. The buttons are covered and molded, which give it a high quality look and they feel good to press. The camera/speaker/charger/headphone cutouts are perfect and there's no branding on the case. This case is much better than the diztronic I have, which has a big ugly logo on the back, hard to press buttons, and hard to grip.
+1 Also forgot to mention the front lip on the boxwave isn't as tall as the diztronic. With the diztronic I had a hard time touching the edges of the screen

Any known thin rugged cases

Any thin rugged cases that have the otter protection. .im sure its a far fetched chance, but that would be cool if a company could make a thin case that has the material to be durable as otterbox defender. ..
I like the cases that have front and back covers that keep the screen inset some for ground impact clearance.

Ya ....looks neat but nah ill pass on that one..
To me it looks like it would keep marks of the edges/bezel if slightly bumped ot dropped but I bet a waist height drop to concrete.... the impact would flow right thru it and crack or worse shatter a screen
I like the cases that over lap the top notification area and home key, and are raised above screen.... essentially like otter defenders do...
I Guess im more into the rugged cases .
I wanna be able to toss my cell on a coffee table or /car dash or drop it from 4 feet " if an accident like that happened as the unfortunate ones that by skinny cases do .....and not have to get super pissed or raise my blood pressure thinking for them two seconds what damage did I do

Wasnt expexting anything thats why I said in op its probably a far fetched idea I knew this , but was worth a shot to ask, im not a noob to phones or cases I have a drawer full, It just pisses me off lol these company's cant think like some of us.. and build a case like we think they should... if anyone can otterbox can.
He'll id pay 100 if a case was thin as the s4 and had the otter protection. . Maybe aome space age carbon or kevlar material. ..
Think if the iPhone beetle shell case that's what kind of design im getting at... I despise open face cases what's the use on protecting a bezel or side when the screen counts for everything ..

Otterbox Commuter or Cygnett Workmate Evolution?

Hi
I'm just looking for some advice.
I'm using a Spigen Slim Armour currently and whilst I love the case I find it's a little bit slippery and the lip on the front is a little too shallow for my liking.
I cant decide whether to get an Otterbox Commuter or Cygnett Workmate. I've never owned cases from either but Otterbox is a brand name I recognise.
I like the workmates protection --- the drop test is convincing but there are reports about the charging port being too small.
The otterbox looks like it might be a bit slippery and may not offer the same protection.
Any advice welcome!
Im using an Otterbox Commuter right now, it's not that slippery though but kinda bulky compared to Spigen..

Thanks I happy with a bit of extra bulk for the extra protection. The spigen is very stylish but I'm not sure how well it will strand up to being dropped.. and it's pretty slippery!!

I currently use an otterbox commuter. I think for the protection it offers it's not that bulky.
It still easily fits in the breast pocket of my military uniform without being all that noticeable.
Plus otterbox has awesome customer service and warranty. I've gotten several brand new cases from them over the years when port covers broke off or if I had other issues with the case.

No need to worry. Yes, the charging port is too small (narrow) for the stock S4 charger, but one sharp knife and five minutes later... problem solved.
I received my Workmate Evolution earlier this week, and got my S4 this morning. Sure enough, the charging port was too narrow. I took a sharp knife and raked it across the upper and lower surfaces of the case's port, holding the blade at a 90° angle to the surface. Thus, abrading it rather than cutting it. Took about five minutes.
In Cygnett's defense, the OEM charger plug is much bigger than any other micro USB cable plug I own.
Hours into owning the phone, I can say I'm happy with both it and the Cygnett case.

+1 for otterbox.
I've been using it since iphone 4.
I recall dropping it from 6 feet on concrete.
The corner of hard shell broke but my iphone was flawless. They also sent me a replacement case and honoured on their lifetime warranty policy.
As for s4 commuter, I personally find it a 'little' slippery but not as much as a naked s4.

I absolutely love both Otterbox and Cygnett. In the past, I've had issues with Otterbox's silicone warping out of shape. The new one on my wife's HTC One (which is identical to the one I tested on my S4 earlier) is way better than the older versions. Went with Cygnett this time purely based on aesthetics as I think the Cygnett looks wayyyyyy better.
The main differences in protection are that the commuter cases have the hard polycarbonate closer to the edges, while cygnett offers a wider tpu layer. The lip above the screen on the workmate is slightly higher than that of the Commuter. Cygnett's TPU is harder though I can't offer an opinion on if its better or worse (though it means the fit on the Cygnett is slightly better, espcially around the sections where the hard bits clamp around the soft bits). I think the hard shell is thinner but the TPU thicker on the workmate
Usage wise, the Cygnett is slightly grippier than the otterbox. The button presses slightly less mushy. The edge of the lip on the front is sharper and you'll notice it though it's not uncomfortable. I like the fact that the ports are uncovered, but the reports are right. The hole for the USB port is too narrow. I can't fit the original cable in, however it's not a deal breaker for me as I have 3 other cables and chargers. Nothing a sharp hobby knife can't fix though.
To be honest, unless the sharper edge on the front lip or usb port hole size are deal breakers, I would recommend the Cygnett. That being said, both are pretty good cases, and you can't go wrong with either when it comes to protection.

Hey figsalan101,
Nick here form Cygnett, mate.
Sorry to hear about that the charger port isn't lining up correctly with the WorkMate Evolution, we have had a few reports of this happening.
The issue of the charging port has been fixed and all of the cases we are introducing into the market now are working correctly. You entitled to a refund or exchange at the point of purchase if you'd like to.
Regards,
Nick
I went for the black Cygnett Workmate Evolution in the end and love it - thanks for the advice.
The ports are all correct - I bought it directly from Cygnett's website and I guess they have fixed the issues with the earlier ones.
The buttons are still a little stiff even after a couple of weeks use.. but it's a small price to pay for the protection.
I have dropped it once already when getting out of my car. It bounced on my driveway a couple of time without any visible damage.
I still like my Spigen Neo Hybrid, Slim Armour and UAG Scout but none offer the protection I need at work... and excellent grip.

Colors of Spigen Neo Hybrid!

OK so I'm getting my s4 in the next week or so. Its gonna be white. TPU cases (especially the cheap S cases on ebay) have never failed me, I have a slim tpu one on my current s3. I've been eyeing the neo hybrid spigen cases, but most photos are with black s3. I wanna see how they would look on a white one. Please post picks if u have em, and send any other suggestions my way. I don't want my phone to crack if dropped but I don't want no Defender either, just slim, great looking protection, and the more tpu involved the better
Thanks!

To be completely honest my UAG is much more comfortable to hold than my Neo Hybrid. The Neo Hybrid keeps it really slim but adds quite a bit of width to the phone. UAG looks bulkier than it really is in pictures, it's actually surprisingly slim and provides a lot of protection.
The small charging/headphone port on the Neo Hybrid can be frustrating at times but not a huge deal. I personally think the Neo Hybrid is a beautiful case but I find myself using the UAG as my daily.

That doesn't look like the official neo hybrid. Yours is much too fat, so most likely a knock off. The one I have is much slimmer than that and almost fits flush with the camera on the back (directly from spigen). Even my knock off is slim like my real one. The frame on yours is way too thick also. And the mic hole on yours is too large
I do like my spigen Neo hybrid I have two official frames for it and one fake in green with another fake coming in blue. The things I don't like about the neo hybrid is the width it adds to your phone (makes it seem a little bulky) and the headphone jack is small, but I bought an adapter to make my shure se215 work with it. I hear the spigen slim armor case has a little better feel than the neo hybrid but I don't have any experience with it.
cases are totally subjective, and lmao that oneye or w/e it is is not much different than a Spigen, just bulkier which I don't want

Also, OP, if you are looking for a good case that is cheap Zoogue is having a sale over at tanga (https://www.tanga.com/deals/d284984d31/zoogue-galaxy-s4-social-case) for $2.99 and $1 shipping. It is a TPU case. I might be picking one up because I have only heard good things about them. Here is a video I found for the S4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZo1SIyNeVU & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSmcfnREiyM)

Hmmm...so sad, Casemate tough not the same!

I had casemate toughs on both my S2 & S3 and the S4 version just doesn't provide the same protection.
The hard shell on the previous version came up to protect the rim and thereby I could place phone screen down effectively on hard case. S4 version has rubber only above rim.....
Any alternatives?

UAG.
You can tell they have shifted focus from protective cases to shiny ****ty ones by looking at their website. Real shame I loved the tough case. All the designer **** is terrible.

UAG won't do it for me as it's a one piece case, the whole reason the CMT was the dogs was the rubber inner and seperate hard shell outer.
This allows some compression/deceleration if a drop occurs and that can make the difference between cracked or working LCD.
Any other alternates?

try the spigen neo hybrid, I have it and it's not bad, just doesn't play well with non stock chargers. The spigen ultra slim isn't bad either. just got that.

Well then let me know if you find a better alternative. I was a Tough user for my S2 too, loved it. I am gonna pull the plug on the UAG in a week if I don't find any better. Spigen cases (all of them) are horrible, I want 'protection', not show off!
The Trident Aegis is my case of choice. Rubber inner and polycarbonate shell.

Ballistic SG max? Too thick for me but it is a dual case. I have the ballistic aspira and love it.

The seidio convert case is pretty nice. Its actually 2 cases in one so if you dont feel like having the rugged case say if youre at home you can take it off and have the minimalist case underneath. Cant remember the name for that case tho haha.

In the end I've gone with the Otterbox Defender.
A bit chunkier then I'd like to be honest but it provides proper protection and for my very expensive phone that's what's important.
Defender? Wow, that's so heavy according to some people. How much extra weight does it add? Can you in/out the phone from pocket easily? I don't mean coat/blazer pocket.
I am using a seidio active, it is very protective but not too huge.

commuter is the best !
Commuter or Element Atom
Siedo acrive is too the nice case to go for.....
If you use the Defender without the belt clip there's no problems putting it into or taking it out of your pocket. I don't notice the extra weight to be honest but that could be because I'm 6' 2" and a big guy.
For me protection comes first and looks second, honestly I can't understand people who'd risk a $600+ ($1000 for me) loss + all the inconvenience for the sake of it looking marginally better.
Of course I don't want it to look like rubbish but protection always first.

I have the Cygnett Workmate Evolution and Commuter but prefer the Cygnett over the Commuter.
