HI all,
Please bear with me if this question has been answered in this forum. I couldn't find one yet.
So this is my question - does HDMI to DVI adapter work for MK808B?
I have a 40 inch LCD TV with the screen resolution of 1366 x 768. Because it has only DVI and VGA inputs, my only option to hook up the dongle to my monitor will be the adapter. I have seen a few reports that MK808 has issues with this type of adapter (pink tint and offsets?), but how about MK808B?
Thanks!
dunno, but as dvi does not carry audio, you would lose sound...

Thanks for your input, but I'm fine with no audio since I can use my bluetooth speaker.
Anyone else?
I'll try testing it when my mk808b arrives in a few days.

yes hdmi to dvi does work ive used it on dvi port video card to hdmi port of tv BUT there are 2 version of dvi u can tell diffrence by the dvi port wherethe + has 4 pins while other + has 2 pin 2 version of dvi are called dvi-i and dvi-d so take a look at it to get the right adapter

I tested it, and I'm afraid I can't give a complete yes/no answer.
HDMI to DVI works for my 1920x1080 monitor (which also has an HDMI port) with no problems, but it won't work for my 1280x1024 monitor. The latter just doesn't wake up, as if it isn't getting a signal.

Someone on freaktab reports that it works for HDMI-to-VGA at your resolution, although not fully sharp: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?4856-MK808B-1366x768-monitor-1280x720-setting
I'm guessing it will only work if your TV can handle scaling or otherwise interpreting the 720p signal from the stick. There are also 480p kernels for some ROMs, and a native 1366x768 is probably possible in theory.

Thank you for the update!
I also did my own study, and decided to get MK808 instead of MK808B because i) omegamoon has 720p DVI kernel for MK808. he hasn't been able to do the same for 808B and ii) 2dark4u is going to release a kernel that will support 1360 x 768 with DVI.
Here're the links to those kernels for anyone looking for more info.
omegamoon : http://www.omegamoon.com/blog/index.php?entry=entry130228-183642

I will post an update when my MK808 arrives.
i have the cs918 q7 (mk888 i think).
HDMI to DVI works on my box and my tv is 1366x768 and doesnt have HDMI.
well its plug into a HDMI 3 way splitter via HDMI but the Splitter is plugged into the TV via a HDMI to Dvi cable.
the screen size was a little out of sync with the actual tv screen size but can quickly fix that in the display settings.
obviously sound doesnt work through DVI but i just hooked up some speakers to the 3.5mm headphone socket

One of the displays I need to connect with the Transformer only have dsub and dvi connections. Has anybody hooked up their tablet through an hdmi/dvi converter?

I haven't received mine yet, but I think a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable -> HDMI to DVI adapter -> DVI cable should work.
It works for me, at least, I'll just be leaving the DVI cable on my desk and taking the HDMI cable with me when I leave work.
I'll post my results when it arrives on monday.
Edit: May just be able to put the adapter on the monitor and skip the cable altogether.
Like I said, I'll post

I appreciate it guys.

It will work fine, since all the signals are digital. Yes it really is that simple.
Except that I haven't seen a single mention as to whether the TF is using HDCP for it's HDMI output. If that's the case then a DVI converter will not work.

I'm pretty sure HDCP has to do with the monitor/tab not the i/o. My Dell 2407WFP is HDCP, has no HDMI (DVI/VGA only) and my TF works with it.

35$ is too much though. Cheaper options on ebay i bet.
.im facing that problem now with my computer monitor. I hooked up the pad by two seperated ways-first with a dvi2hdmi adapter connected to a simple dvi cable, didnt work.second try was with a special 5 meters dvi2hdmi cable.again.didn't work. I don't know what to do? I tried it with another dvi lcd and it just saying that the monitor went to sleep mode.
Important to say that mirroring to a TV LCD or plasma works great whitout any problem.
What's the dvi problem?
i tried this with a samsung monitor. using dvi-to-hdmi-to-minihdmi adapter. i don't know if it's just 1 adapter too many, but it doesn't seem to work.

Didn't work for me. The monitor just doesn't see the Transformer. Might be a dodgy adapter because the HDMI cable works fine.
Didn't work for me either with 3 different types of Dells at work. Just registered after lurking for weeks just to comment on this issue!
I can't post the URLs as a noob but the cable and converter are from Amazon.
I have newer Dells at home I can test with but that was not the point...

Any kind of hacks to get around whatever is preventing this from happening...??
same problem here. got a dvi > hdmi adapter, connected with a 1.8 meter mini hdmi > hdmi cable to a samsung monitor..
no screen image...
connecting direct to my tv (hdmi) works fine!
edit: read some stuff on the xoom forums about a 5 volt line that's missing in the mini hdmi out... and the need for a hdmi>vga convertor in some cases.. (expensive)
Strange thing is, i connected my popcorn 110 to the monitor and it works flawlessly .. both got hdmi 1.3a ..
I just got the rogers verson of the skyrocket yesterday and was thinking of going to buy a MHL adapter so i can use the HDMI.
is there any HDMI/MHL support in the stock rogers rom?
also is there away around the bluetooth stack problem so i can use sixaxis or wiimote to control emulators? if not it looks like i gotta buy that phonejoy game controller.
dont see where there wouldn't be support in the stock rom. The more difficult thing is to find the adapter in canada.
MHL to HDMI is supported on all SGS2 phones
MHL adapter is working with my AT&T Skyrocket SGH-I727. Attached are a few pics and a link to a video I just made showing proof.

Hypathetically, if you want to watch a video or movie from the phone (lined to your tv monitor), will the screen on the phone turn off to conserve battery? Or is it possible to turn off the screen without stopping the video from playing on the monitor? Thanks.
Would the MHL adapter charge the phone when connected to the television?

On my Skyrocket and my International SGS2, the phones will not output video unless I have the microUSB cable plugged into the MHL adapter.
The MHL Adapter plugs into the microUSB port on bottom of phone. The MHL Adapter has an input for a microUSB to charge/power the phone and an input for the HDMI cable to TV.

Good question Mike,
I've only "tested" the connection from phone to TV, I haven't watched a full movie/video.
As for conserving phone battery power, my phone will not output video via MHL unless I have the microUSB cable plugged into the MHL adapter.
I doubt it but i do not have an hd tv anymore. So would there be a way to use an mhl adapter and somehow convert to rca. And if we have to use an mhl adapter for video out im guessing a micro usb to rca would output nothing or just sound? Anyone?

Maybe using a HDMI to Composite converter would work
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Composit...TF8&coliid=I16ARD8PBYT1ZI&colid=2X9SHCO024ETT
The MHL adapter has a microUSB cable that plugs into bottom of phone.
Then the MHL adapter has 2 other holes on it. a microUSB hole to charge/power the phone/adaptor. A HDMI output.
You might be able to use the HDMI to Composite converter I linked above for your purposes.
Hope that was a better description of the connections involved.
Thank you and yes i have seen those just wasnt sure if the signal would properly convert threw all thoae changes lol micro to mhl to hdmi to composite lol

I tried connecting it once and nothing happened.
i think you have to have power plugged in also at the same time. Then i read some posts about possibly needing to reboot the phone with everything plugged in.
to my understanding once its plugged in, everything gets displayed on the screen.. home screen/apps/everything

Hi !
I want to use an external screen with my TF. I spotted some stuff on ebay I think might work, but I'm not totally sure. Since shipping will take 3 weeks at least, I'd like to be 100% sure it will be the right one for the TF.
My screen doesn't have hdmi, it's a VGA / DVI screen, so I was thinking of buying an hdmi to DVI cable, and an Hdmi to mini hdmi adapter to plug it into the TF. Will this work ? Or is there something like the stupid USB port that will accept only the Asus usb adapter to be able to communicate with it ? (I'm pretty pissed of with that one, since I can't find it cheap in my country, and the only websites I found in the US willing to ship to Switzerland quoted me shipping a 200$)
That the stuff I was planning on buying :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
and
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
What do you think ? Might work ?
Thanks !
i've done this exact thing recently.. it works well.. I sat one of my monitors next to my bed and streamed some tv.
Though when i got the mini-hdmi to hdmi adapter.. it came with a pretty nice screen protector, too.
TL;DR: yes it will work.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Thanks ! I'll do that, then ! For my part, it's to view pdfs (like Photoshop magazines) on a bigger screen while having the ability to flip through the pages. I already have two screens on the computer, can't put a third one without changing the graphic card, so I thought putting it on the TF would be a nice solution
that's a pretty good idea! its nice for watching shows in bed... or ircing with a bluetooth keyboard, too. ;D
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
So, some news about my oh so great idea...
I finally received both the dvi - hdmi cable and the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter. I was very excited, plugged it in the screen and in the TF, and... "check cable signal". Yep. I tried finding stuff on the internet, nothing. Then my screen wouldn't work anymore altogether, I was a bit panicked. But yeah, as I like to live dangerously, I plugged it in my other screen... nothing, "check cable signal". (and then the screen wouldn't work anymore either and it took half an hour to get it back on the PC after switching cables, going VGA mode, playing with graphic card settings...)
I thought, maybe the TF isn't sending the signal properly, let's try the camera (Nex from Sony, with hdmi). Same thing, "check cable signal".
So now, my question... Is it possible both my screens are too old to be able to get hdmi signal ? (seems weird, but why not, they are not HD and don't have any hdmi entry) Or is the most probable scenario that my cable isn't working properly ? Or can it be the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter ? I only have my TF and my Nex with hdmi outputs, and they are mini hdmi, I have no other gear I can try with.
What do you think ? Screen is too old or cable is faulty ?
Are your monitors HDCP?
Sent from my ADR6400L
No idea... How do I check that ? (but I read from a guy who put the TF on external monitor by using an hdmi - vga cable, surely it was not an hdcp screen)
I believe you should be fine. If the monitor/tv supports DVI (Digital Video Interface) then you will be fine with an HDMI to DVI adapter as HDMI is also a digital video signal. Now if it was HDMI to VGA (analog video) then you would need a converter of some type.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
I had the same problem, and it appears that my monitor does not handle the tf101 resolution through dvi (1280x960).
And there is actually no way to lower the tf101 output resolution through hdmi, afaik.
So check on the screen's manual the max resolution your monitors could handle through dvi (be careful,
it might be different than from vga).
my screen is in 1650x1050, or something like that. The other one should be at least a 1280x960. So it might be that the cable is not working properly ? How can I know if the problem is with the cable and not with the hdmi mini hdmi converter ? What do you think is more likely ?
Depends on the brand of cable and adapter. Usually the HDMI to mini HDMI adapter doesn't break, as it's just a block of plastic (in my case at least)
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Ok, I'll probably go and buy a new cable tomorrow. But I'm thinking about something : I figured the hdmi - mini hdmi adapter + cable puts a strain on the hdmi slot in the TF, so I'm wondering if it might be better to buy an hdmi mini hdmi cable, and an hdmi dvi adapter instead. The strain would be put on the external screen, but that's ok since the dvi is screwed to the screen.
Your opinion ?
I tried exactly what you are doing a few Weeks back, after assuming it would work and trying many combinations of wires I finally searched and found zero confirmed reports that you can use a dvi to hdmi cable for video output.
What I found works is going with a dvi to vga converter, its more expensive but looks like the only way without a straight hdmi to hdmi connection. Asus actually makes a converter for this purpose, HP also has one... I think they are both in the $40-50 range. I don't have links but just google Asus or HP hdmi to VGA converter
Good luck
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Thanks for that ! That way I won't have to buy another cable and have it not work. But, big question... why on earth are there hdmi to dvi cables if there is no way to convert video signal from hdmi to dvi ??? What use are these cables ?
BTW, I have a DVI to VGA converter, do you think I should try and stick it on my hdmi dvi cable ? (the thing is lying around, if I can get some use for it, I might as well try)
The Asus thing seems a great idea and I will probably end up buying it.
One thing I don't understand though... Why mini hdmi to VGA ??? Why not mini hdmi to DVI, if that needs a converter anyway, better make it dvi, no ? What about the resolution ? I don't want to get a stupid resolution on my screen because of problems with VGA (and I'm lucky I've still got a screen with VGA and DVI...).
Actually, what about a cable like this one ?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
I would be pissed of if I have to pay $50 for asus adapter if I can get one for 8$ on ebay...
Never mind, after a quick search on the internet, some people tried and it doesn't work...
But actually, I HAVE to ask. Why doesn't it work ? What is the problem ? hdmi is digital, dvi is digital... WHY ???
(I haven't ordered my adapter from asus yet, still looking for a cheaper solution.)
Edit again : what I saw that doesn't work was the hdmi to VGA cable, I couldn't find anything about hdmi to dvi... I might go to the shop tomorrow with the TF and ask if I can try a cable there...
Mini hdmi to hdmi to hdmi-dvi converter works. I've tested this configuration myself.
For the vga, you need a converter, like the asus hdmi-vga one.
Just check the xda forum, searching with hdmi dvi keywords.
You'll have the answers to your question by digging a little more.
My lg monitor works fine with mini hdmi to hdmi to dvi. The ui is in 720p on the screen but if you play 1080p HW accelerated video the resolution changes as well. Wanna see a picture of proof? ;-)
I also have the converter and this works also fine. Have a look at the thread in the Accessoires forum.

Firstly, the video part of HDMI is electrically compatible with DVI, that is, they are the same thing just over different wires in a different connector.
However
TFT monitors _may_ not sync down to the specific TV-based refresh rates that HDMI outputs often use. Unless your monitor advertises that it will do the TV resolutions/refresh rates like 1080p/720p etc then its unlikely the TF1010 will display on them. The video output of the TF101 is 720p scaled up to a 1080p signal can your monitors do 1080p?
I haven't the slightest clue... One is quite old, a samsung 2232BW (but that's my main display, so I won't use it with my TF) and the other one is about 1 year old, an HP crap given with a cheap computer...
I might as well buy the cable. Other than that, if my monitor can't handle the 1080p, would it work with the asus hdmi to vga converter ?
(BTW, the prices in the shop are totaly crazy. I went today and saw that the hdmi to dvi cables were about $90, and I found one on ebay, $7 shipping included, gold plated, 3 years warranty)
AFAIK, HDMI is just DVI plus audio. DVI can be three different types, though, with analog and/or digital video. Does anyone know whether the output of the G2x is DVI-I? I'd like to know if a dumb mini-HDMI>VGA adapter would work with the phone, or if I'd need to get a powered converter box for that.

HDMI is DVI-D not DVI-I, so to answer your question, you will need a powered converter box for VGA output.
On a side note, my G2x with live wallpapers looks awesome on my 27" monitor
It would seem that not all HDMI are DVI-D, or they wouldn't make those cables, hence my question. The cable is less than $10, so it's not a huge loss if it doesn't work; I just wanted to check if anyone had a definite answer before buying one.

So I read the ASUS Micro HDMI to VGA adapter will only output the internal resolution of the Infinity.
That way I can't use my tab to present at my university.
Is there an adapter that will allow other resolutions?
Is there a software to change it? Maybe this is working with Cyanogen-Mod? Or is it impossible to do at all?
Does the same apply to Micro HDMI to HDMI adapters?
PS: Maybe people who already bought an adapter could post them here and their experience?

Oh I noticed you need it converted to VGA output correct? If so, just cable adapter won't convert the from digital (HDMI) to analog (VGA). It needs to pass through a converter box that supports HDMI input ---> VGA output.
Yes sure, I hope that is what the "ASUS Micro HDMI to VGA" adapter does

Surely does,:good: although you don't need ASUS brand unless you don't mind paying a premium. any converter box that supports HDMI ---> VGA will do the job.
This would do the trick and save you some $
