I've seen a lot of people talking about changing bands but I have yet to see one person explain how they have changed bands on an AT&T S4. So, would you mind explaining the process for those that might want to try it. I'm not going to use T-Mobile any time soon, but I know a lot of people would be grateful if you would share. Thanks.

Yeah ill be using t mobile I would greatly appreciate it if you explained how to do this

Go into service mode, and however you want to do it, get to the root service mode menu.
From there, follow these menu items...
From Root ServiceMode Menu:
- [1] Debug Screen
- [6] Phone Control
- [6] Network Lock
- [4] RAT_FREE_SUPPORITNG ON
~ left softkey menu key
~ back
~ left softkey menu key
~ back
- [7] Network Control
- [2] Band Selection
Unfortunately, this doesn't provide quite the granular control you were maybe expecting... So far, I haven't found a way to precisely set what exact combination of WCDMA/GSM bands you want to use, but this does allow the phone to use all the various bands it actually physically contains.
As far as LTE, there's an even simpler method:
Starting at the root ServiceMode screen:
- [3] LTE
- [2] LTE RF
- [4] LTE BC_CONFIG
From there you can "select" or "unselect" and given combination of specific LTE bands.
As with anything in the service menu, you may brick your device or cause other irreparable damage by selecting the wrong item.
Oh, and these are the only two ways to change bands AFAIK. I'd be grateful if someone can correct me, as it would be nice to be able to select the precise bands for both the GSM/UMTS side and the LTE side of the phone.

So does this allow to use the T-Mobile/Wind Mobile bands? The 700/1700 bands specifically to be used with AWS

I was able to unlock my phone! GREAT! but for some reason i cant use my data.... I can make phone calls fine

The video tutorial just unlocks the ability to use any SIM card. To use tmobile's network, you'll need to enable the specific bands. I did a mini write up of that process in my post a bit further up the thread. A trip to Wikipedia or elsewhere on Xda will help you make sure you're using the proper bands for your area.

Great to hear. It doesn't effect your AT&T HSPA/LTE does it? What I mean by that, if you want to go back to using your AT&T hspa/lte, do you need to go into menu and change the band back to support at&t and etc?
Anyone else has tried it and has been successful with it?

So you have to manually switch back if you want to go back to using att bands, ok. I don't have s4 but I tried something similar with my note 2, but I only get gsm or lte bands, didn't see 3g/umts.
What options does it give you under the band selection?
Thanks.

How do I know if the phone is unlocked without another sim card? The command '*#7465625#' does not work.

I am pretty sure you need another carrier sim to test to see if unlocked.
You can follow this guide to unlock, see if it works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41580940&postcount=18

G2x In Europe

Hey guys!
Going to the States tomorrow, I saw this beast is quite cheap unlocked in Amazon, so I'm currently thinking of buying it.
But just to be 100% sure, is there anything is should take note on? I'm from Denmark which also use GSM and same frequencies (I think).
Thanks in advance!
If it uses the same frequencies, then you should be fine. But take note, the G2x doesn't include the FM Radio.

Does the g2x support your network 3G frequencies?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Several web sites say Denmark uses 2100 MHz for 3G. Could check the phone settings under "Wireless and networks/Mobile network settings/Data enabled" and make sure data is enabled. Alos check "Network Mode" to make sure it is not on GSM only.
Both things are as you say, and i'm pretty sure MIUI (a backup) was on it for a short time, but it's doesn't connect, weird.
I'm using mine in Thailand on 2100 so that is not the problem. Almost all European carriers use 2100. Make sure you go to APNs in the Networks settings and enter the correct APN for your carrier, give it a name and save it. Then press the radio button to make the selection green. Are you using Network Enabler? That will screw you up if active the first time you are trying to connect to a new network. If you are using that uninstall it or disable it. Also get a program from the Market called Networks. Use it to make sure the phone internally is not set to 2G only. I had that happen once on a phone and it did not show in the settings menu. With that program you can set it to WCDMA Only or WCDMA Preferred. Here is a link to the program.

Did you end up using this in Europe? I'm going in fall for school & plan to travel all over. Are you using a local sim card to use it on their towers? I was thinking of just getting a pre-paid sim card there on my buddies unlocked blackberry, but I'd love to use my G2X if possible!
Thanks!

[Q] [SPRINT] Network Mode - Global vs. LTE??

Best to leave it on global, it will usually revert anyway ,if you change it to lte

Also, is it known that the N5 cannot handle a call and still keep LTE data going at the same time?

No carriers have voice on LTE. I know that on T-Mobile, my Nexus 4, Moto X and IPhone 5 all revert to HSPA+ when I get a call. They will go back to LTE at some point afterwards.
I'm wondering what the actual difference is between LTE and Global. So here is what I did. First, I set it to LTE Preferred and unlike what was said earlier in this thread and by others on the internet, it did not reset on boot, it stayed at LTE. I check the info menu and it said LTE/CDMA as the option. I then set it back to Global, and then rechecked the info menu, it is now LTE/GSM/CDMA. I'm betting that if I move him over to T-Mobile from Sprint that Global will stay the same but that LTE Preferred will likely then say LTE/GSM like my Nexus 4 does.
Just thought this might help folks. I would think that LTE Preferred is just fine for someone using Sprint in the US but that you'd want Global if you were traveling and getting a local SIM.
peterb
I know this may be a bit of a thread resurrection but I think it might be related to some of issues that peeps are now seeing on the Nexus 6 devices with Sprint
Also a good read on Sprints triband setup / issues (yea the article may be dated now but still relevant)

sure it does if when doing your research like I did on mine I see it works on Band 4 which is T-Mobiles band for LTE. I get speeds up to 36dl and 19up with my ONe.
What are your speeds? Does your wifes Nexus show H+ and 3g symbols?

But I think I got it figured out - You are right it works in LTE - when i had 4G on screen i used the app you send me link for and that app shows LTE as network. So the bottom line is that 4G stands for LTE in stock rom and it is possible that Nexus has a stronger radio than One so in some areas i do not get LTE.
Anyway Thanks a Lot for your help - got a little worried ( Got the phone just yesterday). I think i will keep it stock for a little while before i will root it
The radio performance seems the same for me as my N5, I'm living in NYC.
Do note that "LTE" on a Nexus 5 is displayed as"4G" on the OnePlus One. Ensure that your APN is on T-Mobile 4G LTE IPv6 (fast.t-mobile.com), for some reason when I started my phone it was on MetroPCS instead.

One suggestion if you plan on rooting and unlocking bootloader I suggest doing it now since it will wipe everything when rooting... There is a method where you wont lose data but it will not unlock your bootloader

To OP: How old is your SIM card? Have you ever received LTE signal on a previous device? I receive LTE on TMobile 4G perfectly fine, I just wish the "4G" showed up as "LTE" as my Nexus 5 did. I guess I could personally go skin it to say LTE instead but its just cosmetics.
And I completely agree with unlocking the bootloader, even if OP doesn't have any intentions to rooting/flashing, at least do it now so when you do decide to do it then you will be able to back everything up without having your device get wiped.
Edit: OP also go into dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* then go into phone information -> scroll down -> under set preferred network type: LTE/GSM auto (PRL).

I thought the same thing (coming from a Nexus 5). I was worried that the OnePlus One did not support LTE but it definitely does. For some reason Cyanogen did not include a separate LTE icon as what's found on the Nexus 5 and most other LTE capable phones.

For sure its weird how they didn't adopt "LTE" and used "4G" instead. You can always go and change it to "LTE" with some apk hacking. Pretty easy to do.

So does your phone get "4G" now? You can verify in Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> Mobile network type -> should be LTE if the top right says "4G"
The best way to unlock/root is to NOT use a toolkit. Yeah a toolkit is easier, but honestly unlocking a bootloader is not hard and the skills you obtain by doing it yourself are important. You won't lose warranty, you can always relock it and use the bit mod and OnePlus will never know. Plus OnePlus encourages the whole custom rom scene since thats why they have a Development forum on their official forums.
Just follow the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 if you have any problems or questions, just ask here and I'll help (or someone else can)

I called AT&T to have the IMEI changed over to the OPO since I was on the Nexus5. CyanogenMod doesn't technically come with LTE icon, personally I can careless but it does look nice at top lol. And you're correct on my device under Mobile Network Type it shows LTE but icon on top shows 4G.
4G is LTE
H+ is HSPA+
3G is ... 3G
edge is edge :crying:
The first speed test in my sig is my LTE speeds using my OPO... Pretty typical, maybe a little faster than my old Galaxy Note 2. :good:
how does one change it to the LTE symbol?
I'm just curious. If you know 4G means LTE, whats the difference if it says LTE? Not trying to be an A-hole...just curious.
If you run the CM11 nightlies on the OnePlus One the phone will show LTE in an LTE area. Only the stock CM11S shows LTE as 4G.
I would think that people on xda are more well informed.
Carriers like to change the official terms to make you "buy" into a "technological" leap.
Most of the roms outside North America uses 4G (instead of LTE). This is all about marketing.
HSPA(+) are 3rd generation networks while LTE is the 4th generation.
back in the day:
iPhone = edge speed 2.75G
iPhone 3G = HSPA 3G (7.2) speed
iPhone 4 = HSPA+ 3.5G (carriers in north america tried really hard to change this to 4G)
iPhone 5 = LTE 4G

mine is better then g2. Do note that your phone may or may not have the bands your provider has for lte. This you should have checked before you got the phone.
Also delete apn and reboot.
If it works better something went wrong there. If it doesnt check your providers website if setings are all correct.
If they are you might need a new sim/ or lte enabled via your provider.

[Q] F350S on AT&T in Ohio No 3g/LTE

I've been scouring the internet trying to find a solution. I've been wanting this for a while. I did my research to figure out which model of the G pro2 worked with AT&T. It arrives and now nothing. I'm only getting G not 3g or LTE. I am a bit new to smart phones. I've tried everything I can think of. Am I using the wrong apn settings? Is there something in the band selection menu I'm missing. I'm at a complete loss what am I doing wrong?
In Dialer 5754#*350# and activate your Bands or 5457#*350#
Still no dice
I've gone into the menu and specifically selected the required bands but still not dice. I went into the lte band selection menu. Is there another menu I should go into?

I have yet to root my phone I am a bit of a newb when it comes to things like this. I do plan on rooting it and giving it a Skin that has a lot more english. I have done this I selected bands 17 and 5 for lte and 850, 1900 for wcdma and gsm. In the Band Selection Menu. Should I be doing anything with WCDMA Channel, LTE Channel, WCDMA Security, RAT mode, RRC Version, SMS MO Domain, Service Domain, any specific APN setting what is it on your wife's phone, EF file edit, HSPDA category, HSUPA category, GCF Test, OEM RAD Settings, SKT Auto Test, IRS Setting, CA Setting, LTE 3GPP Rel. VER. or anything else I am missing?
I've determined that my phone is a very good fake
IDK if this is real issue but if some does have this problem and comes up with a solution. Please post it here I was beyond frustrated and hope this problem can be solved for someone.
Try going back to 4.4 and using LTE
Try taking your phone to an AT&T store and explain it to them. They will install a new SIM card and associate it with your IMEI #. Then you will have LTE!

I'm sitting in front of a Tmo store waiting for them to open and see where that goes. Hey guys how's battery life with this device. For what ever reason when I did put a Tmo sim in this phone it got only 3g now the chip was a nano from my nexus 6 using a quality adapter but holy crap I've never seen a phone eat a better like Godzilla. Hell it killed the device in like 3hrs. Although when removing the sim it seems to go normal using just WiFi connection. Very strange device behavior. Does this phone have bad battery life in its normal state? Since I am a huge "Big Screen" fanatic I would probably just get the extended battery from the Japan guys on amazon. Your thoughts?

Have you tried taking the phone to a TMobile store, and asking them for help? I'm pretty sure they can correct the issue. Good luck!

1. You Should have an LTE Sim
2. LTE Data service Should be enabled on It.
3. You have correct APN settings From your Carrier
4. You should be in LTE Coverage Area
Now go to Hidden Menu of the Phone. 5457#*350#
in WCDMA Service Menu
1. Slecect WCDMA Channel and Slecect Full
2. In LTE Channel Select your Preffered band ( You should Knew your LTE band or ask from Carrier)
3. In Band Selection Select your bands or select automatic
4. In RAT Mode select automatic
5. Check mar APN Edit Function.
You can also increase RRC Version, HSDPA Category, HSUPA Category and LTE 3GPP Rel. Ver. if your carrier supports you can get higher speeds.
Reboot Again
Press the Thanx Button

Edit Network Bands on Sprint version

i compared sprint LTE frequency band with the one deployed in my country using frequency check.com and found out they're not the same, hence i can't register on the network when i choose lte on my A9 :/
i was wondering if there's a way to edit/add the network bands i'm lacking without converting it?
Is there any method similar to this but for the A9: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=61352157
i managed to run this code ##3282# which brings up the EPST menu and from there i can see what LTE band my phone is exactly running (25/26/41) and their priority 25>26>41 which is clearly not the one i'm in need right now. also i've read that it's possible to get the MSL code using a logcat but don't exactly know how to ?
folks, any help? highly appreciated.

It is build I to the ruu, just convert, it makes life easier, and data backups should be compatible.
i'm trying every kind of possibility and consider conversion as a last one.
UPDATE: i downgraded my firmware and with the help of stifilz i was able to enable DM mode, now it works like a charm :highfive: i used DFS to read LTE bands (results are attached) and they're way more than 3 i activated the band 3 which is what i'm looking for but it only remained on #6828 after reboot and didn't seem to work. i also QXDM as well but it's a lil bit tricky, you have to manually write the right numbers for your bands :/
now, can i just uncheck all the bands, since i don't really need them and leaves only one (band 3)?
after sooo much hassle, i was able to finally enable different lte bands and having them enabled permanently both on 6828 and 6829 but unfortunately it didn't seem to be working which is strange since the chipset is able to handle the band 3 with the AT&T version of the A9, why not on the sprint!!
interesting.. @syntenza you said that you're able to enable LTE Band 3 permanently, but it doesnt work?
