[Q] One+1 and T mobile LTE - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my One+ and i had notice that I do not have LTE H+ only. My wife's nexus has LTE in the same area where Oneplus does not have it. I Did bunch of research and I was under impression that this phone does support T mobile LTE - was I wrong or the phone is broken?
please help

sure it does if when doing your research like I did on mine I see it works on Band 4 which is T-Mobiles band for LTE. I get speeds up to 36dl and 19up with my ONe.
What are your speeds? Does your wifes Nexus show H+ and 3g symbols?
Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet&hl=en

Nexus shows LTE when my phone shows H+
I used the app that you send the link for and when One+ has H+ on it app tells me that i am on HSPA 42.2 MBS
I will need to install same app on Nexus and check it out on that phone
What symbol do you get on your oneplus one when its on LTE? is it 4G? LTE? H?
thanks

I am sorry I may of had stock rom for like an hour... I think it was 4g symbol but I have a custom rom and it shows LTE. I noticed that some of the same lines in the build.prop for LTE on my nexus was not in here for my OPO.
What state are you in?

I am in NJ
But I think I got it figured out - You are right it works in LTE - when i had 4G on screen i used the app you send me link for and that app shows LTE as network. So the bottom line is that 4G stands for LTE in stock rom and it is possible that Nexus has a stronger radio than One so in some areas i do not get LTE.
Anyway Thanks a Lot for your help - got a little worried ( Got the phone just yesterday). I think i will keep it stock for a little while before i will root it

The radio performance seems the same for me as my N5, I'm living in NYC.
Do note that "LTE" on a Nexus 5 is displayed as"4G" on the OnePlus One. Ensure that your APN is on T-Mobile 4G LTE IPv6 (fast.t-mobile.com), for some reason when I started my phone it was on MetroPCS instead.

nah root it its more fun that way and fyi they just came out with an update to 4.4.4 stock from what I have been reading. I saw this posted in earlier.... I guess you will be getting an update soon.
One suggestion if you plan on rooting and unlocking bootloader I suggest doing it now since it will wipe everything when rooting... There is a method where you wont lose data but it will not unlock your bootloader

To OP: How old is your SIM card? Have you ever received LTE signal on a previous device? I receive LTE on TMobile 4G perfectly fine, I just wish the "4G" showed up as "LTE" as my Nexus 5 did. I guess I could personally go skin it to say LTE instead but its just cosmetics.
And I completely agree with unlocking the bootloader, even if OP doesn't have any intentions to rooting/flashing, at least do it now so when you do decide to do it then you will be able to back everything up without having your device get wiped.
Edit: OP also go into dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* then go into phone information -> scroll down -> under set preferred network type: LTE/GSM auto (PRL).

I thought the same thing (coming from a Nexus 5). I was worried that the OnePlus One did not support LTE but it definitely does. For some reason Cyanogen did not include a separate LTE icon as what's found on the Nexus 5 and most other LTE capable phones.

For sure its weird how they didn't adopt "LTE" and used "4G" instead. You can always go and change it to "LTE" with some apk hacking. Pretty easy to do.

So does your phone get "4G" now? You can verify in Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> Mobile network type -> should be LTE if the top right says "4G"
The best way to unlock/root is to NOT use a toolkit. Yeah a toolkit is easier, but honestly unlocking a bootloader is not hard and the skills you obtain by doing it yourself are important. You won't lose warranty, you can always relock it and use the bit mod and OnePlus will never know. Plus OnePlus encourages the whole custom rom scene since thats why they have a Development forum on their official forums.
Just follow the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 if you have any problems or questions, just ask here and I'll help (or someone else can)

I called AT&T to have the IMEI changed over to the OPO since I was on the Nexus5. CyanogenMod doesn't technically come with LTE icon, personally I can careless but it does look nice at top lol. And you're correct on my device under Mobile Network Type it shows LTE but icon on top shows 4G.

4G is LTE
H+ is HSPA+
3G is ... 3G
edge is edge :crying:
The first speed test in my sig is my LTE speeds using my OPO... Pretty typical, maybe a little faster than my old Galaxy Note 2. :good:

how does one change it to the LTE symbol?

I'm just curious. If you know 4G means LTE, whats the difference if it says LTE? Not trying to be an A-hole...just curious.

If you run the CM11 nightlies on the OnePlus One the phone will show LTE in an LTE area. Only the stock CM11S shows LTE as 4G.

I would think that people on xda are more well informed.
Carriers like to change the official terms to make you "buy" into a "technological" leap.
Most of the roms outside North America uses 4G (instead of LTE). This is all about marketing.
HSPA(+) are 3rd generation networks while LTE is the 4th generation.
back in the day:
iPhone = edge speed 2.75G
iPhone 3G = HSPA 3G (7.2) speed
iPhone 4 = HSPA+ 3.5G (carriers in north america tried really hard to change this to 4G)
iPhone 5 = LTE 4G
See this article (how At&t tried to play this game)

I agree fully with Line 1 - especially here we should do more homework before posting...

my oneplus signal is terrible compared to my n5
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

mine is better then g2. Do note that your phone may or may not have the bands your provider has for lte. This you should have checked before you got the phone.
Also delete apn and reboot.
If it works better something went wrong there. If it doesnt check your providers website if setings are all correct.
If they are you might need a new sim/ or lte enabled via your provider.

[Q] HTC One X - Force LTE connection?

I have ALWAYS had very poor AT&T service in my house, from my iphone 3g, iphone 4, iphone 4s....as soon as you pull in my neighborhood AT&T service just goes to ***
I got the One X however and realized I can pick up LTE here when the radio first turns on! I can put it on airplane mode, take it off...and I'll get LTE for about a minute. I get 10mbps down instead of the 1mbps when it's just on "4G"
However..this can barely make it through a SpeedTest as it's 1 or 2 bars of service...then it switches from 2 bar 4G LTE to the 3 or 4 bar "4G"
The phone is thinking I get better service with just the plain 4G so it forces me to connect to that....in reality it's a tonnnn slower and much worse.
Is there any APN setting or any root hacks to force the LTE connection? I get LTE pretty much everywhere in town (las vegas) but like I said my neighborhood doesn't seem to be on AT&T's maps!
If you go to your dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* it will take to a screen where down a bit from the middle is the option "select network type" tap that and there is and "lte only" option. I have read that this works to force only hspa+ but can't confirm it for forcing lte. Give it a shot though.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I found the screen....Has a bunch of options with "LTE Only" being one of them...however...when I click on that option it flashes as being set to "LTE Only" for half a second and then reverts to the default option of "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
Damn, thought you were on to something!

This does NOT work for forcing either HSPA or LTE. It always reverts back to auto. AT&T does not let you choose your network, period. We will not be able to choose the network unless and until we get the Rogers ROM working on the AT&T units (or until someone builds a custom ROM giving us the functionality of Rogers).

Sure it does... rogers devices and debloated ROMs are the only ones that can be forced into LTE mode. It's AT&T ROMs that can't

If you are rooted and have an unlocked bootloader, try a version of CleanRom or a stock rooted rom which is not an AT&T base. I have been able to lock my radio to LTE (only when not making calls that is) with CR V and I am on AT&T. The only thing is that when you make a call you get bumped to 3g/HSPA because AT&T doesn't do voice over LTE

LTE not working?! Manual Programming codez (updated)11-7

I got my Nexus 5 yesterday and finally got it working. I live right next to a LTE tower and I can't seem to get LTE.
1. Checked PRL
2 Checked Sim
3 Checked Profile
4. Called sprint
5. Checked network settings.
When i put the phone in airplane mode, and back off. It jumps to LTE for 2 seconds then 3g
Anyone having these issues ???
*manual re-fresh*
*#*#72786#*#*
after that, phone will reboot and "re-fresh network"
Also, my phone wen't into global mode, which you will need to change that back to LTE mode.
- Still isn't fixed ...
will report back ..
Manual Programming Code
*#*#675#*#*
edit: MDN = phone number
MSID: split
UPDATE
doing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting LTE only does indeed make LTE work both visually and functionally, with a loss of voice of course, but as soon as you go back to LTE/CDMA auto it'll require a reboot to take effect and LTE is once again not working.
(from sprint forums) - confirmed
I'm having these issues with Sprint as well. Thanks for your updates. I'll let you know if I learn anything.

Here is how I fixed it for myself on Sprint.
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Change Network Mode from Global to LTE.
It will still connect to Evdo, ehrpd and Lte and switches between them as needed.
Luckily I haven't got hit with 1x since trying this out. My area has maybe one or two spots where I'd get 1x instead of ehrpd.
Settings hold after a reboot. I was driving to work today with my phone playing my music and it seemlessly switched between 3g and lte on it's own.

Mine does that too.
BUT, nothing in the settings has been able to fix this.
How long since you activated? Mine would not connect to lte at all until last night... about 30 hours after activation.
Now it connects fine. I tried everything including flashing the modems posted in dev, swapping sims, trying every different network config and nothing worked except lte only mode which then kills 3g and voice.

I too am having the exact same problem as the OP. I can change the setting from Global to LTE and the phone will connect to LTE for a few seconds before switching back to 3g.
I am coming from the Note 3 on Sprint that got great LTE here at home, about 16mb down and 4mb up but I am hoping this gets resolved quick.
I'm on T-Mobile and it favors sticking on HSPA+ instead of LTE. If LTE gets down to one bar, the phone decides it's time to switch back. Compare this behavior to my Nexus 4 and it would stick on LTE come hell or high water. I would stay on LTE while in the office and this phone refuses to even get on LTE in the office. I don't get it.
Some have suggested this is a "power saving" feature, but I call BS on this because my Nexus 4 wasn't even intended to have its LTE radio used and LTE really didn't impact my battery. It felt like it lasted the same as it did before I enabled LTE on it.
Possible Sprint Fix
Customer: Is the SIM device specific? I reused the one from my Note 3. I have seen other information that the SIM's for the Nexus 5 are device specific.

Doubtful Mitchell knows what he is talking about. People have used HTC One SIMS and GS4 sims and have LTE. But, today is the big day the Sprint phones go on sale. Will be interesting to see if any of those people have the issue.

Still stuck on 3G after activating around 72 hours ago.
To follow up on the Nexus 5's "special" SIM card. I'm also skeptical about this. I'm using a SIM from a GS4 (part #: SIMGLW206R) which is the same SIM mentioned in this post about activating the Nexus 5 on Sprint: http://qbking77.com/google-nexus-5/activate-nexus-5-sprint/.
However, I called a nearby Sprint store to ask if they had any SIM cards available. They said yes but when I mentioned the Nexus 5 the representative seemed to think there was some additional procedure for coupling the phone and the SIM. I don't know any more about this. Could be misinformation of course.

[Q] [SPRINT] Network Mode - Global vs. LTE??

No carriers have voice on LTE. I know that on T-Mobile, my Nexus 4, Moto X and IPhone 5 all revert to HSPA+ when I get a call. They will go back to LTE at some point afterwards.
I'm wondering what the actual difference is between LTE and Global. So here is what I did. First, I set it to LTE Preferred and unlike what was said earlier in this thread and by others on the internet, it did not reset on boot, it stayed at LTE. I check the info menu and it said LTE/CDMA as the option. I then set it back to Global, and then rechecked the info menu, it is now LTE/GSM/CDMA. I'm betting that if I move him over to T-Mobile from Sprint that Global will stay the same but that LTE Preferred will likely then say LTE/GSM like my Nexus 4 does.
Just thought this might help folks. I would think that LTE Preferred is just fine for someone using Sprint in the US but that you'd want Global if you were traveling and getting a local SIM.

I know this may be a bit of a thread resurrection but I think it might be related to some of issues that peeps are now seeing on the Nexus 6 devices with Sprint
Also a good read on Sprints triband setup / issues (yea the article may be dated now but still relevant)

No more LTE connection after upgrading to cm12.

As the title suggests, I no longer have connection to LTE services, beforehand I could get full signals.
I downgraded back to cm11s, and installed the previous XNPH44 modem, still no luck.
I have also tried XNPH33, 30 and 25. I have even tried the ColorOS modem as well as the M9.
Furthermore, I have tried the *#*# secret settings, currently it is on LTE/WCDMA. I can reach H+ connectivity but still not LTE.
I live in Australia, and am with Vodafone. Meaning Band 4 is the one I need to connect to, (1850mhz I think.)
Please advise on what I should try next.
Thanks.

As written above I used to get full LTE coverage in my area. I even included the LTE band that the LTE broadcasts on.
It is also confirmed on Vodafone's website if you want to have a look.
Is your issue similar to this thread or do you simple just not have LTE, only and never get it on CM12?

Its only LTE that I don't get, but it was only after I updated to CM12. I reverted back to kitkat right now and I no longer get LTE.

No you didn't, you said you used the *#*# setting which is NOT the same as APN setting in the Mobile Network settings. Before insulting people do your homework.
APN worked!

Thank you!!! I have had my OnePlus One on cm 12s for about a week and the LTE has never worked since I upgraded. Just H+ works. And more than that - it keeps turning the H+ (3G) on and off which I think it's really killing my battery life!!! I have been trying loads of things to get my battery life back to what it used to, huhuhu. Turns out my APN got set to T-mobile somehow! I have Red Pocket mobile GSMT which runs on T-mobile and I always got LTE with it till the upgrade. (I'm in USA.) Just had to switch the APN from T-mobile back to Red Pocket 4G. The LTE works again and never cuts in and out!
:good: :good: Thank you! :good: :good:
LOST my LTE connectivity
LOST my LTE connectivity after upgrading my oneplus to CM12,my oneplus originaly came with chinese color os ,,after i install cm11 then cm12,,I put LTE only mode using *#*#4636#*#*,no signal,Im in srilanka ,using Dialog LTE band3 1800mhz
Me too.
Same situation, with Vodafone in Italy.
Maybe the last OTA upgrade introduced this issue.

? How to get LTE speed on US LTE tablet running ROW LTE Image?

Hi folks,
I've got the US LTE original Shield tablet, which is the replacement that NVidia sent me for my original "pyro edition" tablet. Since ATT haven't released the Nougat (Android 7, software package 5.0 or 5.1) builds for this tablet, but the ROW tablets are able to get this update, I flashed my tablet using adb/fastboot with the full ROW 5.0 package downloaded from the NVidia site. I then connected to WIFI, and let it pull down the 5.1 update. Factory reset, flash TWRP, rooted with SuperSU. Easy peasy. Then I set up the tablet with my accounts and such.
Based on good info from user @Son-j I made two build.prop edits, changing ro.build.flavor to wx_na_do-user (was wx_un_do-user) and ro.product.name to wx_na_do (was wx_un_do). This changed the reported signal type from H+ to 4G. Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding the thread where he suggested doing this. I think it was on the geforce web forum.
The only problem I've found so far is that I'm not getting LTE speeds. I was in Chicago for a couple days, in an area with strong LTE signal, and my other devices were reporting LTE and getting ~20Mbps down / 10+ Mbps up. My Shield was pulling maybe 8 Mbps down at best , and 1-2 Mbps up. At home in my suburban location, the difference is negligible (most devices here do 5 Mbps down / 1 Mbps up, LTE or 4G).
Still, I'd like to fix this if possible. Are there further edits or flashings that will let my US device running the ROW build get LTE? I have gone in and verified that my APN settings are the recommended ones from ATT. These showed up automatically, and matched the ATT recommendations.
Thanks in advance!
Hi I'm not sure but I there was a thread here in XDA that says it's still difficult to change the LTE (RoW to US, and vice versa) bands because developers couldn't find yet which part of the code to modify... It's not also confirmed if it is indeed possible to change the LTE bands to support.
So basically, flashing RoW LTE on US LTE device will still result in US-LTE supported bands. That's what I understood.
But what you did is quite a revelation. Can anyone else confirm that modifying the build prop will work? Boy I'm excited!

Hi @Son-j -
Thanks! Do you happen to remember which thread had those two buildprop edits? I found them after seeing a post from you a few days ago, but now I can't find it at all. My google mojo has fled me.
I'd like to have a link there so others can see the original source.
It would be nice to get LTE speed, if someone knows how, but most places where I use the tablet don't have super fast LTE, so the difference for me isn't enough to make me downgrade to the marshmallow US LTE build. I'll stick with nougat for now, and hope eventually to get full speed. Who knows, maybe ATT will eventually release the 5.1 US LTE build...
For clarity here is the set of APN settings I'm using. I'm going with the column in the center at the bottom for Tablets:
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1062162
All of this was correctly entered by default except I did need to edit two keys:
APN was listed as broadband instead of Broadband (yes, I'm picky, but wanted to match case)
APN type was listed as just default. I edited it to match the listed setting of: default, mms, supl, hipri, fota
Also I'm set to LTE for "Preferred network type"
Ok I think there's a misunderstanding. Uhm, I'm trying to look for the related posts here at the Nvidia threads but it seems to have disappeared.
Just to set something straight, LTE speed is influenced by:
1. LTE device with specific supported LTE bands
2. LTE sim
3. Location with LTE signals
I take it that for your specific device - US LTE Shield Tablet (just like mine) - you satisfy all 3.
For the record, flashing RoW LTE on our US device won't change the supported LTE bands (check baseband code in About Tablet section of settings). So if you used to have AT&T LTE speeds/signals using US LTE ROMs, it shouldn't change if you flashed RoW LTE ROM on the same device.
We are speculating though that there might be a way, software/firmware speaking. We are hoping it's not hardware-baked.

Thanks Son-j. It kind of freaks me out that just a week ago I found the thread that recommended those two changes in buildprop, but now I can't find it, and apparently neither can you! So maybe I'm not crazy, since it's more than just me having problems finding it.
Anyway, yes, I used to get the LTE indicator on the tablet, when in an area that has decent reception of those bands. At my workplace, which is a building built like a Faraday cage, we can get only ATT service, via repeaters spread throughout the building (I switched from Verizon in part due to this). Phones almost always report ~3 bars of LTE in places I usually find myself within the building. However, speeds tend to be <10 Mbps (tested using Speedtest.net from either my phone or tablet). So, despite getting "LTE service" there (prior to my software update), the speeds were nothing so great. For this reason, I'm not TOO worked up that my US tablet running ROW software isn't reporting LTE... most places where I use the tablet don't have blazing fast LTE, and the difference between the 4G service it actually gets and the LTE it "used to get" is not that great.
I would like to fix the problem if possible, but it's not a critical thing, and I may just put it on the back burner until the US LTE 5.1 image comes out, then flash back to that. I've got lots of other fish to fry these days.
Always interesting discussion. Thanks Son-j!
Marc
If it's just a speed issue, that will be the provider's end. If it's a signal issue, that's device problem.
It's possible to get an LTE signal but with HSPA speed in some areas.
There is an app called LTE Discovery. It will tell you which band it is currently connected to. I've got it on my tablet on T-Mobile. I am having problems with it connecting to anything other than 3G. But I have read others with the Shield tablet having similar problems with T-Mobile.

Thanks @caseyatbt,
I was unaware of that app. I downloaded it on my phone (which gets LTE just fine at my house, most of the time) and it reports all kinds of fun stuff about the LTE signal it's connected to. On the US Shield tablet running ROW stock, this is what I get, which frankly makes me think the tablet is connecting via CDMA of all things, despite having chosen all the correct options in the Settings / Mobile section:
The fact that my radio seems to be connecting to WCDMA instead of GSM is kinda freaking me out, folks.
I'm tempted to try flashing the US LTE device Marshmallow recovery image, and see if that fixes it. I understand the flashes don't change the baseband, but since I flashed 5.0 and the the device did an OTA update to 5.1, that might have changed the baseband, eh?
So, if me flashing the marshmallow files doesn't fix it, I might reflash an earlier edition and let it OTA to latest edition, which presumably would install correct "latest" baseband for the model.
We'll see ... I'm still not committed to one direction or another.
Marc
OK, I just flashed the 4.4.0 version of Marshmallow. (full flash of all Nvidia recovery image files). After letting it reboot the first time, it checked for update and found none, as expected.
NO LTE. Downloded the LTE Discovery app, and it still only sees WCDMA signals. Uggh.
Now I'm going to install the 4.3, and let it OTA to 4.4, and hope that refreshes the modem/radio. If anybody is following this, wish me luck!
EDIT: OK, I'm in idiot mode. I downloaded what I thought was the 4.3 US LTE image and it was actually the 4.3 ROW image. I didn't notice this until after flashing, and seeing the H+ icon, and noticing lack of ATT usage tracking app. Oops.
I don't see the 4.3 US LTE image on the site; I'm now downloading the 4.1 image, and will do OTA updates from there, checking as I go how which signal my radio is getting.
No Joy.
I flashed US LTE 4.1 image. AFter the flash, LTE Discovery still reports just HSPA+ signal from WCDMA towers. I then let it take the OTA for 4.4... the latest available for the US LTE tablet, and after it ran through its update process, I'm still on WCDMA.
Uggh. I doubt there's any WCDMA signal where I work so I may have killed my tablet, at least as far as using it at work is concerned.
I'm sure there IS a path back, I just can't imagine what it might be, at the moment. I'll start a new thread to be more specific to this current problem.
Sigh.

Eventually found that thread with the buildprop changes, see here if interested or if you ever need to find it.
I just checked my Shield on T-Mobile. In the same area on LTE Discovery that yours says W-CDMA mine says the same thing (under Neighbor Cells). When you scroll to the bottom, what does it say for carrier?
Carrier: AT&T (310410)

Here are screen shots of my sim status (personal details redacted) and the LTE discovery window:
I am thinking that it is possible that W-CDMA doesn't mean what we think it means. It shows you connected to AT&T so you are not on someone elses network.

I talked to ATT. It's sort of their backup network, not available everywhere. My other devices definitely show LTE. Will post a screen so from my phone a bit later which shows that.

Here are some pictures taken from my phone, which is working properly. In settings, you can see the LTE network type and in the LTE Discovery app screen capture, all the LTE towers.
ATT maintains a "vestigial" WCDMA to allow some level of connectivity by devices that don't have GSM/LTE, but it's not everywhere and it's pretty slow.
The Shield used to show LTE in the Settings Cellular network type, as well as giving the LTE icon, when appropriate. Now it's just HSPA. Sigh.

My T-Mobile phone shows similar to your phone with LTE. T-Mobile must have a similar vestigial WCDMA that is showing up on my tablet. I still haven't found anyone that was able to get T-Mobile LTE working after it was only giving them 3G and HSPA. I have heard it either worked or it didn't.
