[Q] $200 smartphone from China with good xda support - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I'm currently using HTC Desire. It's good but sometimes laggy and annoying (using RunnyROM 5.2).
I was wondering if it would be possible to spend $200 and get smartphone with good xda support and:
- 4,5" - 720x1280 display
- dual-core processor
- min. 1GB RAM
- decent camera (with second one for videochat) - better than mine would be great
- decent battery - I think +2200mAh
those are minimum requirements
Do you think such smartphone even exist ?
I would buy Nexus 4 but don't have another $100... :/
Ps. If this post is in the wrong place - pls move it, don't delete

For $200 with these spec and full xda support you'll not find anything. For a little more you can buy Huawei Honor 2
http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_honor_2-5092.php
This thing fully applies to your requirements.

please use this sticky thread for this kind of discussions.

[Q] Plz Suggest a new phone

I've been using the SG3 for the last year and quite satisfied with it. Now I'm planning to buy a new android phone which have should have the following specifications:
1. Atleast 1GHz processor
2. Screen size should be between 3.5"-3.7"- I found the 3.2" is quite small but 4" screen is too big for me
3. Good battery backup - good to have atleast 1500mAh battery
4. Should be up-gradable to Android ICS (2.4)
5. Good to have a front facing camera
6. Enough internal memory - alteast 512 MB
I've shortlisted the HTC Desire s but I'm not sure whether it will get the ICS update or not, also not sure if there is any other option. Friends, can you please suggest anything else which meets the above specification, if any.
Overclock your g3 or buy a new nexus s, it has all requirements and will get ICS in Dezember.

New phone buying advice please !!

I am going to spend some money on buying a CDMA android device pretty soon for my father. Its a unlocked CDMA phone running android 2.3. Model (MTS mtag 352) which is actually a zte device. The deal is I am able to buy a new piece for only $80.
Details:
http://www.mtsindia.in/smartphones/MTag352/index.html
Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H3-JMfxod4
The device won't be used for multimedia much at all. Very rarely for browsing. Mainly for phone and contact management. No audio storage no video storage either.
My only worry is the device sports only 256 mb ram and 140 mob internal memory. So do you think for the usage I described , the mentioned specs are good enough ? Mainly memory ?
Apologies if the post is not in the right section, but I couldnt find the device having a specific forum section so am posting this in q and a here.

buy to him a jiayu g3, 2750mha battery, 1g ram, dual core cortex a7, 4,5 screen, sd support, gorila glass, 2 sim capacity, and more! and isnt expensive, it can be chinese, but it is even better that this. i love it, or a jiayu g2, it is nearly the same, but a bit smaller with less things
if you can pay more than 80, or a jiayu g1 even cheaper, there are very cheap phones in internet

The thing is even though I want to buy better I am avoiding purposely. In India currently there are absolutely no good android CDMA handsets. While I did think of getting from us via eBay, it won't help much. He uses his phone for nothing other than talking. So In my view a android device with gtalk is better than non his android CDMA device.
So what's your view regarding that device. I am mainly worried about running out of memory with only sms and contacts.

Can someone tell me if one can manage with 128 mob internal memory on a android device ? If its not used for any applications , just contacts, phone calls,SMS and gtalk at most. ?

Hey guys, I need some on trying to find an android phone for about $200. I've already looked up the Moto G and unfortunately it didn't meet up to my total expectations. I am looking for a device that has:
A 4.5 - 5 inch Display with about 720p HD Capabilities and maybe around 250 - 330 PPI.
Dual or Quad Core Processor (Starting from 1.2Ghz and please try not to post any mediatek cpus)
512 - 2GB of Ram
Good internal storage for some apps.
Android OS 4.1.2 - 4.4 KitKat
Good battery life (something that would last for about a day or so)
Stable.. Smooth (No Chinese Generics)
At least some support from the dev. community.
Any help would be much appreciated. thanks!
Sorry guys, there was a device suggestion thread...

well since the moto g is out of the picture, i think one of the many BLU phones would be good for you, i have heard good and bad reports about the battery, most of them have 1g or higher gigs of RAM, its seems that lots of their devices (even with small screens) have a great cpu clocked at 1.5ghz dual core or bigger, i think most of their phones are 4.2 and up. lots of choices with 4.5" and up. as for development support, i think they only have root.

Thanks for the recommendation. Though, I have heard of the blu phone series (life, studio, etc.) but there are many negative reviews on them and the ones that are mostly positive are supposedly framed. So, from what I heard was that some of these BLU labelled phones come DOA, other complaints relate to dead pixels, insta-brick (after a week or so of moderate to heavy usage), unresponsive touchscreens, and of course as you stated, battery life.

I was stuck in the exactly same position. But I also needed a removable battery and an external micro SD card slot. So the moto g was not a good candidate. I ended up going with the optimus f7. It has specs similar to gs3. You should check out the reviews and see what you think.

Ahhh yes, I forgot to include external microsd expansion capabilities. Oh yes and thanks, the F7 may not have good dev support but I guess root access is all I need. All I'm really planning to install is Su, viperfx, and some closed modules. Also btw is it possible to skip the boost mobile activation process?

[Q] Best Mid-Range Devices With Great Dev Support?

I'm currently searching for a new mid-range device but I am having trouble finding a great device with dev support. I was hoping that the fine people of this forum will assist me in this search.
My preferences:
- 5.0 - 5.5in screen (5.5 is generally preferred)
- At least a quad-core Snap Dragon 400 processor or equivalent (even higher if available)
- At least a 720P screen with over 240 DPI
- Custom Lolipop Roms (not a lot, just a stable one.)
- Can be found new on Amazon for $200 - $300
- Nice UI
- Great Battery Life
I know I am asking a lot here, but any help will be appreciated!

I have the LG L90 which I feel is a midrange device at a decent price. Dev activity for this phone is booming.
I got it from T-Mobile for $55. Battery lasts all day (2540 mAh I believe). IR blaster, 720P recording on rear camera. Only thing is, the screen is about 4.7 inches or so and the resolution is only qHD. However, the screen still looks great.
EDIT: MORE SPECS!!!
Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset, Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, Adreno 305 GPU, SD card slot, 8GB internal storage, Corning Gorilla Glass 2, Bluetooth 4.0. There are 3 variants: D405, 410, 415. D415 is the variant T-Mobile sells. D405 has slightly better specs with an 8MP and 1080p camera, and FM Radio with RDS. Not sure about D410. Currently there are Lollipop ROMs for D405 and D415, might be one for D410 as well.

HTC One ME (Dual Sim)(M9EW)

Hello,
HTC introduced the One ME dual-SIM with Helio X10 chipset and support for Indian 4G LTE networks. This handset was unveiled in China earlier this month and will be sold in Classic Rose Gold and Meteor Grey color options in India.
The One ME is HTC’s second WQHD smartphone with fingerprint sensor after the One M9+ to enter the Indian market. Styled like the rest of the One product family, the device has a polycarbonate body.
Specs-wise, the device packs the latest 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795T mobile chipset with 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. A 5.2” QHD display, 32GB of expandable memory, and 20MP main camera are also on board. HTC One ME boots Sense-d Android Lollipop.
The dual-SIM handset supports Indian 4G LTE network bands - 1800Mhz (Band 3) and 2600 MHz (Band 40) to deliver fast mobile web speeds, but only in select regions. Other connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.1 with apt-X, and GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS/Beidou support.
HTC One ME dual-SIM is priced for India at INR 40,500 ( about $640). The device will be available from this weekend onwards.

anybody ?:crying::crying:
I've read some reviews about it as I'm so interested in dual sim flagship phones. Since this phone has high specs with a very reasonable price as it's now available now for $550-$600; it really got my attention.
Most of the people say that it heats up and drains battery faster. It also lags sometimes with multitasking and heavy gaming. Other than that it's working fine. I really like the specs and the design but disappointed that it lacks wireless charging and also doesn't give the chance to add a wireless charging receiver as it has a fixed back battery cover.
Anyone owning the device could give us a real feedback about it!
First of all thanks OP for this thread for Htc One Me ... i am tired searching thread and forum for this devive in XDA :thumbup:
ITS REALLY VALUE FOR MONEY FULLY FEATURE PACKED FLAGSHIP DEVICE (but somehow its being ignored)
Just check it, You will love it
My thought about this device is:
This is currently best value for mony flagship device. It has everything (and more) that current flagship device should have....and price is comparabily very low price. Last day I went to magnet mall in vileparle west mumbai and checked this device... around 20 min from design to sound to FP sensor to dual sim...its awesome device. The couler i used was gold...and device look awedome golden. Here are some major features packed in this phone, these are checked by me and confirmed specs.
* Nice back camera with 4k recording and front 4up
* Latest 64 bit MTK helio 10 processor
* Dual sim dual stanndby
* Touch fingerprint * homekey
* Fm radio
* IR blaster
* 32 gb memory plus 3 gb ram
* Sense 7 and Android 5.0.2
* Dolby dual BoomSound speaker
* 5.2 inch 2k Res screen.
* Price Only: 37000 INR (at Alfa Mumbai)
* Other features are same as other Htc flagship devices.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, even after so good device and already availability there is NO FORUM FOR THIS DEVICE IN XDA. I already requested forum for this device via 'New Device Forum request' (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62090540 ) thread. And hope soon it will get its own forum.

So please provide some details about below points.
1. How is Battery Life (Its 2840 mah and is it enough for 5.2 + 2k screen)
2. Performance (MTK helio10 is really capable handling graphic loaded games and apps)
3. Is there Heating Issue? (I heard somewhere about this.....???!!!)

1. Battery life gets him through a day. It really depends on your usage.
2. Processor is damn good, no performance issues. Gaming isn't that great though due to a sucky GPU, highly extensive games will see frame drops.
3. Every smartphone heats when used for long hours without resting. Nothing uncommon. No "heating issue" or "overheating".

Just received the device yesterday, I bought it from eBay. I'm really impressed with the design. The grey one gives you a metal build feel. Sense 7 is great. There is FM and USB host option if there is anyone wondering. I didn't assess battery life yet, not before one week. I noticed that the boom sound is less in intensity compared to m8. There is some heating up but not exaggerated as people complain about, maybe coz I didn't overload it seriously but with normal use it's OK. I still didn't check the mhl adaptor. Overall it should be considered as a flagship phone but with a very reasonable price.
