When ever I go to update my RAZR MAXX with the ota release of android (4.2.1 i believe) I get an error because I deleted my stock kindle app with titainium backup that came with the razr maxx. At the time I was new to all the root stuff and didn't know that missing bloatware will give me a difficult time updating. Ive tried manually flashing the update but still it fails, needing that kindle app, and just downloading the app from the market doesn't seem to work either. So now I guess I need the back up of the stock app to reload onto my phone or is there another way I could get around this? thanks!

I went back to stock by flashing the SBF and later I noticed that my droid 2 global still has the terminal emulator application listed under the installed apps. It does not appear as an app that I can launch though.
I had fission installed once then decided to stay stock as I got tired of messing with the phone. Could this just be a left over from restoring to stock? How can I remove it if I'm not rooted? (The uninstall is greyed out).
It is there in stock indeed (term.apk), but does not show up in apps. It is not leftover, I guess Motorola is using it for something, but decided to hide it from plain view.
thanks man that is what I wanted to know.
question resolved.
I removed some of the stock apps (read: bloatware) from my D2G using Titanium Backup without saving a backup, and then read somewhere that OTA updates wouldn't work unless the phone still had all of the original system apps installed. To this end, I need a list/ screenshot of the default apps that come with it out of the box. Even if you don't have to have all the stock apps to update (on the off chance that Moto ever gets the update ready), I'd still like to have the list. Any help is much appreciated.
You can just sbf back to stock and get the ota

I have a rooted VZW maxx HD that I am trying to load safestrap on. I have read through multiple forums searched high and low and can't solve my issue. I can install v 3.05 on my phone. Click install recovery. Installation successful. Reboot and the safestrap boot screen never comes up. I am on stock rooted ICS by the way. Any help is appreciated. I want to install custom roms.

Did you go into super user and update binaries?
Yes I have spent hours on this phone. I am new to Motorola. Not as hard on HTC devices

I also had an issue with safestrap. I was running the JB leak and for some reason when restored root with Voodoo I never really got root back. I could gain root access with root explorer but all other apps including safestrap would not work. I had to use mattgrolfs utility to get back to stock
After I upgraded to the the newest Ota I installed safestrap again and it is now working fine. You might just want to start over and begin from stock.

I haven't taken any updates. I'm on stock ICS not the leak. Problem is when I reboot I never see the safestrap boot screen. I appreciate any pointers
That is weird. I also have the VZW Maxx HD with root and stock ICS. Safestrap installed without issues. I currently run my phone on one of the Rom Slots because zip updates are still disabled on the stock slot. Did you give it superuser permissions before rebooting the phone by opening the app?

If safestrap has been granted permissions through SU and you are still having issues, best thing to do IMO is just do factory reset and then reroot and install safestrap. That usually works for me.

was there ever a resolution to this?
I have a Razr M. I was running stock jb until today, when I
- factory reset
- rooted (successfully I think)
- installed safestrap 3.05 and “Installed Recovery”
however I can’t get any safestrap splash screen to show up on reboot. is there anything I need to do?
I'm rooted/stock and have been deferring OTA updates for a looooong time. last time I took an update it screwed thing sup badly and I had to wipe my phone and start clean so I've been avoiding the update. I figured it's time but the install fails every time. I'm on 4.1.2 VRBMF1. Is it the fact that I'm rooted causing the trouble? Can I "un-root" to take the update?
If you have removed system apps or applied framework changes (like a mod) then the OTA could fail cuz of that. It could even be from your custom recovery. There should be an error code that gets saved in /cache or it should give you a reason why it fails as it is attempting to apply the update. Have you done any permanent changes similar to what I outlined?
If you have no issues with wiping the entire phone, then you could use Odin (Windows only program) to apply the 4.3 update. Now, I must say that you will not have any option to use AOSP roms or custom kernels once on 4.3. If this matters to you, then I can help you get rid of the ota notification.

I haven't changed anything aside from freezing a bunch of apps with Titanium Backup. I haven't even installed a custom recovery. When **** got so screwed up from the last OTA I started fresh and rooted, intending to install CWM but never got around to it. So I'm rooted and nothing else. I've used Odin before to start fresh and I have no trouble with doing that again except that I hate having to set all of my screens, widgets, and folders up again. The couple times I've used a backup recovery they didn't recover those settings. I have all of my apps sorted into folders and it would be a huge PITA to do that again. I figure there has to be a way to backup and recover the layouts of the home screens. I have MyBackup Pro and can install CMW.
My phone has become very laggy over the past few months, which is why I decided to take the OTA hoping it would clean some things up. Honestly, I lost interest in doing all kinds of customization. I just want the phone to work smoothly again. If stock 4.3 with some crap frozen will do that then that's all I need. Is there a 4.4 version that runs without issues on the GS3?
Don't take the OTA, just go here and install this stock rooted version of the 4.3 OTA. Gives you everything you want and keeps your options open.
4.3 is much better than 4.12 and there is no stable 4.4 for the S3.

I'll go that route.
Any advice for backing up and restoring my apps folders? I just realized that the apps pages are not included if I backup/restore home screens with MyBackup Pro. I've sorted my apps into a dozen different folders on the apps pages and really don't want to do that from scratch again.

Hi there,
My girlfriend has 2013 Moto G and since a couple of days she's getting the LP update notification.
The G is stock, unrooted.
Is there a way to get rid of the notification? Without updating?
thanks
Is the question that stupid? Or nobody knows an answer?
Try uninstalling the Motorola Update services app using Titanium Backup.
That means unlocking bootloader, wipe device, reconfigure?
Titbackup requires root as far as I remember, didn't use it for a long time.
Unfortunately, I think the only way to remove the app is with root.
You could try other methods of rooting. I always rooted my phone by installing a custom recovery.
Thus, not without root possible.
Not that I don't want to root, my N5 is rooted and flashed but the Moto G is my wife's phone and I don't want to screw it up. :silly:
Thanks for the info.
I understand completely. The choice is yours (or rather, your wife's).
