[Q] Typestatus equivalent for whatsapp? - General Questions and Answers

For iOS's iMessage, there're a few apps around that send you alert when someone is typing to you, e.g. TypeStatus, Predicter
Apparently the developer of TypeStatus is now working on something similar for Whatsapp.
Anyone knows if there's such a thing out there already available?

Any application that can read SMS' out loud (possibly through a bluetooth device?)??

I wanted an application that could do this but all I could find was the one from blueAnt which only works with their specific bluetooth device...
You could use Tasker and use this profile - price looks high but it's VERY powerful once you know what you're doing.
Comes with a trial mode for around seven days.
+1 for Tasker. Brilliant app.
I have my 'in car' profile set to read texts - on text receipt it pauses the music player, then reads the senders contact name, and then the body of the text. Awesome.
i was planning on getting the blueant Q1 (just found it for $25). are you saying it won't work with handcent in reading a txt message?
edit: forget it...answered my own question by going to their site. "Hear text messages read aloud on your Q1 when connected to an Android device with our Android application."
What about the vlingo application. It has an email and sms reader that reads the message out loud when activated, but I haven't managed to get it to read the message through the Bluetooth headset

Wondering why SayMyName hasn't been mentioned yet... works fantastic even with caller names, mail, Twitter etc.
see this is why a thread like this is good, we all network our own thoughts and experiences together and find out about all these new apps that we never knew about before...thanks all, keep em comin if you have more comments or anything

SMS Speak
Just stumbled across this thread looking for something else. But thought I'd chime in. I use SMS Speak (the paid one, not the free one - two different companies/products), and it works great. I can get incoming texts and reply, all orally. I'm curious about the other products mentioned, though...

[Q] SMS/MMS Alert

I don't know if there is a thread out there already asking this specifically or not but, does anyone know of a good SMS/MMS visual alert? I used to have the app NoLED. But they've changed it up so much that it doesn't work as good on my Samsung Infuse 1997. It used to allow me to (assign a photo) so when I would get a text or phone call the contacts photo would pop up (so convenient!) Now they've changed it, and the whole app sucks! :crying: Does anyone know of something similar?
Thanks in advance!

Why just use the old version of the NoLED that was working before? you have a freedom not to update the software to newest version.

[Q] WeChat voice (PTT) not working with RAZR HD Jelly Bean update, fix?

Basically that. Had Wechat and I used it to talk with my GF in China. The push to talk worked fine prior to the update.
The Jelly Bean update happened earlier today, and the PTT feature doesn't work anymore. Reinstalled WeChat and that didn't help things. Sent something to WeChat but who knows if they'll respond to that...
Anyone know if there's a way to fix this, either specific to this app or working for a variety of similar chat programs?
FIX: Disable the Low-bitrate Recording option in settings -> general. Low-bitrate is the default option so maybe this can help someone else out...
I have the same problem on my S3 ...
I can only use "Line" to communciate w/ ppl in China now!!!
I also msged WeChat ... and of coz no reply!!

[Q] MMS, Hangouts and GIFs...

Ok so I originally started on Hangouts like everyone else but slowly realized that the compatibility with iMessage and Group messages involving iPhone users is sub par. I downloaded the MMS.apk from the Themes and Apps section and now I can group message with no problem at all. The issue I'm having involves sending and receiving GIFs. I know that android doesn't support GIFs but with the new Hangouts it was supposed to. Is there any way to pass along that compatibility to the MMS.apk?
Thanks in advance!
well
Tell your iPhone friends to upgrade to a cheap $349. Nexus. problem solved.

Unless you plan doing the development and building the APK yourself, you can't just expect MMS.apk GIFs to work by some easy method

I was hoping to see if anyone had found a solution. I had done a search but because of the common search terms I got way too many unwanted hits. Ideally I'd love to see Hangouts group messaging work better.

[Q] Auto Delete Old SMS Texts for Lollipop

Anyone have a good method for auto-deleting old SMS on Lollipop? I'm currently using GO SMS on a custom rom and unfortunately the developers have chosen not to enable that feature. I've explored other text apps with similar feature sets (really only Chomp fits the bill) and they don't either.
I found a few other threads asking similar questions, and it didn’t seem like there was a satisfactory resolution in any of them. I also searched the Play Store for an app that would handle this, and I came up empty.
Is this a system limitation? How do you guys go about keeping your message counts in check so your SMS app doesn’t get really slow?
