dummies guide to rooting - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So today i got a galaxy tab 2 7.0
GT-P3110
JRO03C.P3110XXCLK7
And i have no idea on this whole rooting/custom rom stuff. like ive had like 5 iphones and ipods and that is piss ball to
jailbreak. but this is just so much different. and for this im out of the rat race of the whole modding/custom android.
i really need it dumbing down to help me get started. like jailbreaking i did it to tweak things. to have a more open
sourced firmware with things that you couldnt get on a normal standard iphone. not so much games and apps.
but like themes. widgets. new texting abilitys and functions. so im kind of stuck not knowing where to start. seen as
cydia for iphone was piss easy to use. but as far as i can tell its not like that at all on android. i need the ultimate
guide to get me going.

[Q] Is there guides to Coding?

I have a couple days left of my vacation and I don't feel like coming out of my man cave until then. (Gf might get mad haha)
I would very much like to learn a lot more about this phone and how I can create custom themes, boot animations, ect. Pretty much things to enhance my phone. Is there guides to this? Or any tips you guys would like to share.
Thanks in advance

noob developer wonders what hes got into?!

ok ppl ive been an android fan ever since i felt as tho i was on a lesh whenever i owned the 3gs i-ball-n-chain. i want to make some simple apps but i dont know code!
Anyway, i came across a site called buzztouch and figured out the basics of building an app abeit the packaging is done by buzz but after figuring out eclipse a wee bit and eventurally getting and testing my app on my phone..i want more..but my question is...
what are your thoughts on buzztouch as i feel letting someone build my ideas is a bit dodgy.
are there any similar standalone packaging softwares that can do what buzz duzz...the coding for a noob like me?
as i said..im a complete noob to making apps...i flash my desire regularly but thats as far as it goes..
so any help and your thoughts would be great.
If you don't mind learning an easy to learn programming language you can try the windows software called basic4android. It produces proper apk app files ready to put on your device or on market and is like visual basic on windows but for phones.
It gets rid of need for eclipse and learning java etcetera and yet is very powerful. If you google it you can go to the developers site and there is a forum there showing apps people have made with it.

Anyone got a 'how to'?

OK, so I"m retro. But I'd like a nice little GTP for Dummies book so I can play around with some of the capabilities this device has. I have been goofing around on Android with phones for quite awhile but I really don't have a clue. Like 'Do I have 2 SD cards or just one?' Things like this vex me to no end. Plus I understand how things relate on a PC but not on this for some reason. So a simple "For Dummies" guide would be nice. Help and understanding appreciated...
If you poke around enough on the Samsung site you can find a very extensive pdf manual on the tab plus. I'll try finding it and put the link here.
Edit: here it is. It tells you a lot about most of the capabilities it has along with quick intros to the stock apps.

I actually recommend downloading it and putting it on your Tab that way you have it on you all the time with it and you can't lose it
Thanks bud! I appreciate it!

Coming to Android (Vibrant) from iPhone.

So I've been using iPhone for quite a while and recently got this Vibrant from a family member who didn't need it anymore. I've got to say, I'm really enjoying it.
I always played around theming my iPhone and using the Cydia tweaks and thought I knew what I was doing for the most part. So after getting this phone, I figured I would install some custom roms until I found something I want to stick with.
The thing is, there are tons of them, and since it's a kind of old phone I'd like some advice. Maybe to give me an idea of a few great roms.
I started by reading a lot on the web, and downgrading from Froyo to Eclair. Then I installed the Asgard JVP rom. I like it, but it appears to be abandoned. I live in an area with horrible service so roms with Wifi calling would be nice.
Definitely getting an idea of good current roms would be a nice start!
Thanks in advance, I understand I'm and Android noob, feel free to poke fun at me :-D
Just check the appropriate forum here. There should be one dedicated to your device.

Looking to Develop Android Applications and Games

Yes, I've already searched the forums. I know there is a guide on here from a developer, but that doesn't leave as much open-endedness as I would like. I'm looking to learn to develop games and applications for the Android OS. I've spent the past week learning Java so that I could learn to develop for Android, but it seems to me that is only the tip of the ice berg. The question I have for you guys is how do I go about learning this stuff? I'm sure most of it is trial and error, but hell what can I try if I don't know where to start?
I know you guys probably get this type of question all the time, but I'm not wanting to take the easy "can you basically code it for me route?". I really want to make the game I have in mind and it's fleshed itself a bit more since I actually learned the backbone of the stuff as well. I've seen The New Boston stuff, but that guy doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. He calls > the less than sign and vice versa. :\

if you are e developer , to learn java (at least the basics) is the step no 1 , and its not so hard
if you have no idea what programming means , then you sould spend time to have some general knowledge about programming.
then you sould try to understand android platform , read general info , read sdk documentation , read about the structure of an android app , and
play a litle with Eclipse. you can find everything on the net. tutorials , code , how to etc.
Start doing tutorials, that's what I'm doing.
Check YouTube for beginning Android programming and stuff like that. Eclipse has some good tutorials as well

I think you are referring to my guide. You say it "doesn't leave as much open-endedness as [you] would like." What do you mean by that?
The guide is first and foremost written for beginners.. if you have suggestions on how I can improve it, let me know
And I wouldn't call learning "trial and error." It's more of practice and understanding.
You are right in saying "What could I possibly try if you don't know where to start?"
Following a structured series of tutorials at first will start you off on a strong foot.
