Lets get Dsixda android kitchen working - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Hey guys what's happening? We should try and get this kitchen working for our device. It was super popular on the sgs3 so I don't see why it wouldn't be a hit with the sgs4. Here is a link to the t-mobile version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277560
I'm sure it wouldn't take much and would let others make a rom to their liking!
hmmm........

https://twitter.com/dsixda/status/335213741576699904

oh sweet thanks man!!

When you add supports what's changing per say. Is it mostly just mount points and partitions for the updater script ...

More than that, it's not just a couple of files. Everything is shown in the commit log in GitHub.
ie. https://github.com/dsixda/Android-Kitchen/commit/5d6338d96f4cffdf3f76af16485bb4f9c3d848a0

I flashed a rom made with the kitchen and it just hanged at the samsung logo boot animation. I didn't really look into it much yet was pretty busy maybe tmrw I'll look deeper

Yeah somebody told me about that as well. The recovery.log after the flash looked normal.
Please check your logcat upon reboot as well.

I have the recovery.log but I cant post external links

Just paste it at pastebin.org and take out the http part in URL.
By the way, I did a comparison of the original boot.img and the new boot.img through the kitchen, and the ramdisk size is wrong. See attachment. I will look into it later, I'm busy right now.

Yes, Google may have updated the boot.img creation code in the Android 4.2 source code, or it is a bug in the kitchen. A workaround would be to replace the boot.img in your ROM zip with the stock boot.img. I will investigate later this weekend.

Actually I am wrong with blaming the ramdisk size. It has been a long, long time since I've done anything with kernel/boot.img modification LOL. You could be adding files to the ramdisk folders when modifying the boot.img, and it would grow in size, which is fine.
The main thing is that the kernel and ramdisk load addresses are the same as before. Otherwise we would have real problems.
I would request someone to test by using the stock boot.img in the ROM to make sure it's not an issue with the modified boot.img.

I will try now

Yeah this is strange, recovery log gave no real errors either. Perhaps someone should try a logcat while it's booting up.

Its for those who want untouched stock ROM for developers also to use it as a base so cant do any modifications in it though there will be many ROMS which will make it lighter to use
thanks pal..last time i checked, there wasnt any 5.8 update.
can we have a changelog? or..pls site any differences from 5.5?
thanks again..i also like the idea of your XperiaNexus rom. i like the way u polish it..
i havnt tried your rom yet, but what i hate about other custom roms like fxp cm10 are the pixelated fonts due to our low ppi though its looking good when on a stock rom.. is that the case on your roms?
more power!

nothing new in the .5.8 update as far as performance is concerned... i mostly use stock ROMs for my own ideas.. when there's a ROM which is ported on cm base than I've to use cm as a base ROM.. but i feel that my ROMs should be usable to locked bootloader users also, so as far as i can use stock as a base i avoid use of cm10..

like what? because 5.5 was diffrnt from 2.10 like for exmple it has a smscounter and that illumination bar light following the album color in walkman..
and yep basing ur roms on stock is a great idea to keep stability for some. those willing to experiment may use the cm10 based.
i will provide reports if ill be on any of your roms to minute of details. keep up
This is 1st time I came XPERIA forum and Sorry, maybe Im wrong place but Im confused for get the link for XPERIA J stock ROM/KERNEL/FIRMWARE... Maybe anybody can provide me for the link...

[SOLVED] Problem with recovery and root

Hi all, I have a problem with my Sensation.
I flashed the original Vodafone ROM for my phone because I have a lot of random reboots with other ROMs. But when I did that I remove the recovery and root and I want to have it again. My phone is S-OFF, but I don't know what to do to have root again, and I don't know if I have the bootloader free (or something like that)
Can anyone help me please?
Sorry for my bad English, I'm Spanish. And thanks for reading.

Just to confirm and no break something. You told me that I need to do that, right?
Basically Download that file named PG58... and then do the STEP 4. Updating the firmware (but using the recovery file) and STEP 5. Removing the PG58...
You have explained it perfectly, but as you can see, my english is so bad and I just want to confirm the information to skip some brick device...

U wont brick ur phone. Just download the PG58IMG.zip, put it on the root of ur sdcard (not in a folder) boot into bootloader, bootloader will find the file and ask to update recovery (select yes) let it finish and u will have 4ext recovery installed. Once thats done, delete the PG58IMG.zip off ur sdcard coz everytime u enter bootloader it will ask to update.
Then just boot into recovery and flash the superuser.zip (posted above) and ul be rooted

I will do a backup and flash it.. I'll tell you what happened.
Does it have any special feature right now? Or is it very similar to cm kernel?
EDIT: It doesn't boot. It's just stuck in ZUK logo. I'm on 20/11/15 nightly.
Is it possible to add FDD-LTE B20 support to your kernel?

You're welcome !
Literally installed this 20 mins ago and initial thoughts are VERY fast and smooth.
By far the fastest any Rom has booted up and been set up, after first flash I usually wait anywhere up to 15mins for the phone to do its first boot and into the setup.
From first boot I must have been up and through the setup within literally 2-3mins.
Not a single FC or issue so far. Great work guys!

Either I'm sure will work just fine.
I personally side with AndrolinRoot. I've never had a problem with Open Gapps mini... seriously over several devices for like the past year. People ask about gapps all the time and I always think that's such a no brainer.
I'm using slim zero gapps, for some time, with no problems at all.

Google took away the usual notification controls with Android O. I had a stock Nexus 6P and the same thing happened with that. Any notification preferences already set remained after the upgrade however they would revert to default once the app had been uninstalled or reinstalled.
This guide should help you with the new settings.

I can not get any app to remove notifications from this apk https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schiztech.swapps
And of some others above all with overlay permissions in all the Screens.
You? Can you try swapps?
Greetings.

Hello again ... now I realize that you have the rom fromfuture, which is nougat b198, is that so?
The problem is with an oreo base, and those apps do not work, and they do not block the andis system's notis of screen overlap ...

Try this guys, you need to create a link to a setting screen that you cannot access through the EMUI system settings. Works well for me.

It's still there, maybe moved..

--EDIT--
Dunno why the links don't work, trying Google "disable displaying over other apps Huawei p20 emui 8", should be top result[emoji106]
Not an issue, meantime I'm on PIE EMUI 9.0. Doesn't seem to have the same annoyance. Still testing.
