[Q] Custom ROM for the BLU Dash 4.0??? - General Questions and Answers

I have the BLU Dash 4.0 and was wondering if anyone has a custom ROM for it? You really cant find anything about it online except on how to root it. The root process was in Spanish but Google Translate will help. Can someone take a look into it please?.
Thank you,
flickpiston

Download the update I posted on rapid-share
{**rapidshare**.com/files/21...20130521.zip}
(just remove the asterix)
Then follow these instructions, to get to recovery mode I don't know if your phone will be the same; you could always try.
1. Drag the update zip folder to your sd card from your computer.
2. after its on the sd card turn off your phone then
3. hold the power button and the volume down button until you get to the recovery screen.
4. select apply update from sd card then when everything is done installing turn off your device one more time and hold the power and volume button and select factory reset.
if you dont do a factory reset after you install the update then the google play store and anything from google wont work.
so make sure you do a factory reset after the update is done.
Hope that works

Found this thread from GSM Arena and applied the update. Thank you flickpiston for posting. It's a start in getting these phones some dev love.
With that said, about 24h have passed since flashing the update and this ROM is not much better than the original that shipped. I still experience frequent FCs, freezes requiring battery pulls, and battery drain. But hey, at least Google Play Services finally installs like it's supposed to.
Unfortunately, this ROM still has BLU's hands all over it considering there are some dialogs in Engrish just like the factory ROM.
I rooted using another guide translated from Brazilian Portuguese and applied the V6 Supercharger and it has somewhat helped with the lag. I'm going back and forth between the 512 balanced and aggressive settings.
Let's hope we can get a real recovery on this phone soon. And a proper ICS/JB port.

I found out that the XOLO A500 is extremely identical to the BLU Dash 4.0 and they have a CWM recovery that i tried and it worked when i flashed it, but when i turn off the device and try to go into recovery a second time it takes me into the stock recovery instead of CWM recovery. I don't know why it does that

Yeah, going by the specs it seems that the Dash 4.0 is a rebadged Xolo A500.
On another note, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have finally tamed the lagging and crashiness of this ROM using zepplinrox's V6 supercharger and KAK scripts. Specifically I switched back to the 512HP balanced settings, enabled the Nitro Lag Nullifier, fixed permissions, and wiped the dalvik cache. The KAK script has everything enabled except for I/O scheduling since I don't want to risk bootlooping without a proper nandroid.
Finally, consider downloading No Frills or some other CPU manager. For some reason the cfq scheduler is the default; I switched it to noop. Also you have the choice of using the interactive governor; this also cuts down on lag at the cost of more battery.

Thanks for the info it really does help. Till now i didnt know about supercharger or KAK scripts. I see improvements . I think the best thing to do right now till the development starts on this phone is to try and find compatible phone that already have developments for them and see if they work, because a custom rom would be nice.

Thank you for your conduct I downloaded your rom but I downloaded from dev-host host because the host Rapidshare very glimmering. I think some friends in a thread for my phone in my country have contacted with some people who also using BLU Dash 4.0 and get the rom from them. That's maybe you, guy I also don't know . I will try update your rom later.
Back to the main subject, as I know, your phone(BLu dash 4.0), my phone (Q-smart S20), Xolo 500, Cherry Burst S280 and Gsmart R1, they are running on 3.0.21-perf Kernel Version and the same hardware like: ram, cpu, os,....., so I think they can use the rom of each other, I have tried with all but the rom of Gsmart R1 does not detect SDcard on my phone, others run well. And now i am using this rom of blue dash 4.0 and satisfied it. In forum in my country, we have a thread with collective rom as i told, if you want to try those roms, i can share. :fingers-crossed: Sorry for my bad English.

Something went wrong when I had tried to update this rom. My friend is trying researching more. In this zip pack, we found that it has many files *.enc, it doesn't like any zip packs which we have flashed.

I am happy to report that I have finally stabilized this ROM to the best possible degree. Scratch that, no I didn't. But the following HAS cut the lag. Forgive me if I repeat myself from previous posts but here are the steps I took in hopes that others can duplicate and confirm:
1. Root using this guide and use Google Translate. You will need the Android SDK, the script in the OP, and the Qualcomm driver linked further down in the thread.
2. Install Busybox from Google Play.
3. Optional: Install Koush's Superuser as SuperSU has been bad news in my experience especially if you wipe caches.
4. Grab the latest Supercharger script. You will need to carefully follow the instructions. You MUST patch services.jar as explained in the thread. I suggest using the balanced settings for 512 MB but of course you're free to use any of the 512 options. You should also try using the Nitro Lag Nullifier.
5. Optional: Grab the Kickass Kernelizer script. DO NOT include I/O tweaks.
Caveats:
TiBu freezes the phone if you try to backup the system apps. Backup your user apps and data. I'm still trying to find a way around this.

DUDE
HEY MAN could you make a CUSTOM ROM AND UPLOAD, because its difficult to me to do all that you said... i want to eliminate the lag

All is in English except ROM GALAXY S4 TRANSPARENT V1.0 and ROM XOLO MOD because I haven't flashed this 2 roms, but I think they also in English, I am using this CWM: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7N-XHierCuYRVdBOE1WWnZqb1U/edit
About your rom, my friends have just updated it successfully, one guy use my phone's stock recovery and another use Blu's CWM to flash. I saw the difference in Hardware version between your phone and my phone after updating your rom, do you know why?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy GT-I9003 MIUI ROM V10 Batter Fix

hi guys
i have samsung galaxy s gt-i9003 phone. i recently updated it to I9003JPKPH_I9003OJPKPC_KSA 2.3.6. after that i rooted my phone and then installed MIUI v10 2.3.16.
To be honest its the best UI for the phone but only trouble is battery life. does anyone has solution about any kernel that i can install on my i9003 to improve the battery performance. if you know about some just let me know and please if possible post the links also.
i heard about smoothass, glitch(i tried glitch but it bricked my phone) etc but which one is the best. i also calibrated my battery so only option left is to load new kernel. your suggestions are welcome.

hi
i just used rooting package by amit bagaria..
use the package i am attaching here
it will work
before rooting choose usb connection, allow installation of unknown application and usb debuggin.
make sure once your phone reboots wait for 15 sec then take out battery and again reboot into safe mode and clear factory data reset and clear cache
Fast Dormancy
so guys i looked at some forums and they suggested to look at fast dormancy
i did and disabled it. my phone battery life improved
so far i haven't found ant rom or kernel to improve battery life when using MIUI rom
so just try *#9900# and disable dormancy before installing MIUI rom.
can someone please please post a guide to root the gt-i9003
you need odin(any version will work)
start odin
make sure your phone default mode is usb mode and not samsung kies
check usb debugging and third party installtion
put your phone into download mode(volume down + home key + power BUTTON)
then connect phone to odin
you will see either ccom0 or com1
download the bagaria package i posted in the thread
click on pda and browse to the package
click start and its done
once it starts
go to recovery mode( volume up + homekey + power button)
and clear cache and data
and then restart the phone
installing MIUI ROM V10
I am new to xda developers.I hav already rooted my phone.but now i wish to install a custom ROM like MIUI ROM...could you please tell me how to install this Rom.
Detailed, step by step installation process will be very helpful.
my firmware version is 2.2.1
base band version is I9003XXKB1
kernel version is 2.6.32.9
Any help would be really appreciated..
first of all
you need to put 2.3.6
2.2.1 is very primitive
go to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9003
and get I9003ZCKPG
then you need ODIN.
This firmware is from China
make sure your phone default mode is usb mode and not samsung kies
check usb debugging box and third party installtion
put your phone into download mode(volume down + home key + power BUTTON)
then connect phone to odin
you will see either ccom0 or com1
click on pda and browse to the package
click start and its done
once it starts ( i mean wait lets say 1 minute or so)
go to recovery mode( volume up + homekey + power button)
and clear cache and data
once your are done with this much part then message me
i will let you know the rest. Since MIUI need your phone to be rooted we will do it once you have this much done.

Thanks for the help.
Did whtevr that u said...
whts the next step..
thank u in advance...
now look at one on my post above where i told somoene how to root the device
you need to do all the same steps but with the bagaria rooting software
once done i will tell you the MIUI steps..its little tricky
MIUI rom
done with the rooting...
plz let me knw of the steps of installing the MIUI rom.
thanks in advance..
MIUI ROM
so do the same preinstallation steps
and this time on your number pad
type *#*#9900#*#* and disable dormancy.
then after that download
[25.04.12]MIUI_V10.5(2.4.20)Latest (Mirror)
-Bluetooth headphones fix
-Swap to SD
-Bravia Engine
-Sony Xloud
-Beats Audio (all thanks to RockoDev)
and copy it into your external sd card
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538234
once done start your phone int recovery mode
In the recovery mode, you need to select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the MIUI_V10.5(2.4.20) Firmware Zip package, Bravia Engine, SONY XCloud, Beats Audio & Swap to SD which is placed in the phone in the chronological order.
once done
clear the cache and format SD card
and reboot
you are all set
check for camera and stuff
sometimes they dont run properly so you might have to do things from my first post till now.its like a 15minutes task but it will work.
MIUI rom
One problem with the firmware is that many apps are missing most importantly the android market i.e. play store is not there. Other problems are i cannot add my account in the account and sync tab in settings....
would be thankful if u can provide solutions for these..

hi kunal
i just checked your post

My best suggestion is to backup and and again install everything
but its highly unlikely going to happen again.

[ROM] Leaked early ICS for Lenovo Ideapad A1

There's been some discussion recently of the leaked ICS ROM for the Lenovo A1, which is a little difficult to install, because Clockworkmod won't flash it due to failed assertions. I've modified it so that it can be flashed through CWM.
Be warned that it will overwrite U-Boot, the kernel, and the RAMdisk (these are not usually backed up by CWM 5.0.2.7). If you've installed it, and you want to go back to your old backup (very likely as you'll soon get tired of nothing working properly), use the following steps:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Restore your backup using the normal CWM functionality
3. Install ub-fastboot.zip from this post.
4. Reboot into fastboot mode and restore the correct kernel and ramdisk for your ROM with:
Code:
fastboot flash inand-kernel <kernel>
fastboot flash inand-ramdisk <ramdisk>
5. Reboot.
If you don't know what the correct kernel/ramdisk is for your ROM then I'd advise you not to try using this ROM.
DISCLAIMER
There is no guarantee of anything going right if you install this ROM. I'll try and help with problems (and I'm sure other people will too) but if things get messed up it'll be your fault. Don't take the risk without understanding it and being comfortable with it.
Download: here.
So now you've flashed ICS to your A1, but you can't use it. Duh. Everything is broken right now.
For those scared of using ADB commands during a restore to CM7/Stock gingerbread... Here's the stock RAMDISKS, and Kernel as CWM .Zips... [Links taken from the other A1 threads, stock kernel .zip by yours truly. ;-) ] Flash ONLY the ones you need before you flash your Stock rom/CM7 rom/nandroid restore. In this order.
ROW 2375 / ROW 2525 builds ONLY RAMDISK
(1.){^^vv If you don't know which you're supposed to have, DO RESEARCH FIRST
ROW 2643 build only RAMDISK
(2.)Stock Kernel
(3.) Then Stock ROM/CM7 ROM (your choice) (skip step 2 if flashing a 4/28 or later CM7 build it includes a kernel.)
(4.)Fastboot bootloader mod

Now if only we could get Wifi and USB working... That would be a decent start...
Weird part is, on the leaked one, the device name under settings is "Zoom2"
(haven't flashed this one yet, but I assume it's the same)
Makes me wonder if this is infact the real deal... or at least an attempt by a third party? (see post below)
Though it's nice to see it being possible.

It says "Zoom2" - that's an OMAP3 development kit that the hardware in the A1 is very similar to - they'll have started with the device-specific files for the Zoom2, and haven't bothered to change them yet. See http://www.omapworld.com/zoom.html

It's not worth trying to fix with this ROM. It'd be better to work on a proper build of ICS instead of wasting time augmenting this early build.
Anyone trying this rom - can you take a look if /proc/config.gz exist and if so - make an upload. I'm just curious, but don't want to waste my time ....
Dear gmarkall, i flashed from CWM and it says installation aborted.. ! now i can't boot up to normal stock ROM ..

If you can still boot into recovery, flash an OTA zip file.
If you can't, then follow these instructions.

I'm not running the ROM right now, but I tried extract-ikconfig on the kernel and it didn't find a config - I don't know how reliable that tool is though, since I've never used it before.
An update for the ICS ROM was posted in a German forum. Wifi is said to be working now. You can download it here. To use it, you need to flash the original ICS firmware (A107_.rar) and then install the update.zip with the stock recovery from an external sd card.
I've tested the update on my device. Wifi and sound output are working now. The build props show a Lenovo device now (ro.build.fingerprint=Lenovo/IdeaTab_A1107/A1107:4.0.4/MR1/eng.user.20120503.193509:eng/test-keys). The main issue seems to be that the Google Apps are not working (including Play).
EDIT: The problem with Google Play seems to be caused by the file permissions of drmserver. After this, I can download apps from Play Store (but only until rebooting):
Code:
adb remount
chmod 777 /system/bin/drmserver
./system/bin/drmserver&
Confirmed wifi works and sound works fine.
Google store not so much but looks to be a quick fix.
Gps seems to be working but haven't had time to test.
Mounting sd card and usb mounting are messed up.
Also for anyone considering this 4.03 they should know its based on a phones os and not a tablet os.
I can't update on 2GB A1 - there is an error in the middle of process.
The first version was running ok.
Pls!
Dear gmarkall,
I redownloaded and flashed again and now it's running OK.
Now from the above posts, i see that an update that fixes wifi and sound 's available to download again here.https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=56E49CF4B3C46641&id=56E49CF4B3C46641!106&action=Download
So pls tell me what i've to do again. Can i flash this update from CWM ?
Thanks !
Plaease help! Not work on IdeaPad A1 2GB
CWM log:
size:3833856assert failed: run_program("/tmp/fuse:, "mbr", "/tmp/mbr2GB.img")
E;Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted
Can you help me?
This Update doesn't work with cwm and I wouldn't recommend to anyone flashing it. It screwed up my whole file system including rescue partition and took me several hours to get rid of it. On top, it doesn't contain config.gz.
If you are using CWM, you can go back to stock recovery in just a few minutes. It is described here. This shouldn't be an issue?
Clearly this is not a actually preview from lenovo but rather a home-brew that does a decent job of getting many things working.
The first preview had a tablet based 4.03 and this supposed update has a phone 4.03 layout.
Still not bad just not from lenovo.

I see no reason why you couldn't. I only advise you to flash the CWM recovery first, then do all the wiping as mentioned (note that this will be a clean install, so back up anything of importance to you).
If you are paranoid enough (this generally applies to any ROM installation), you can enter CWM, and mount + format ALL the partitions you see there one-by-one. After this (rather extreme preventive measure) boot into recovery again and do whatever you wish.
Please do tell me about you installation experience, so others could learn, and I could improve the instructions.

flashing works without problems. do not forget to wipe dalvik cache because device will hang on boot if you forgot this!!
its not my primary device any more so i have not really test it now.
will test a bit more and report back.
want to sell my device and have to be sure that everything works without problems
Finally a custom kitkat rom for our Padfone 2!
I am on the latest stock kitkat version of the device. I really want to test your rom, but i am a noob and have no experience on flashing the device. I tried to flash CWM using fastboot as a first step, but i am failing.
Do i need to unlock or root the device first ?

I just downloaded the UnLock.apk here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Mobile_Phone/PadFone2/UnLock.zip
What I did was simply as follows:
1. Installed UnLock.apk and ran it.
2. Accepted warnings.
3. Inserted my gmail password (it automatically identified my account).
4. It failed with the "not valid password message.
5. In my gmail inbox, I got a message that gmail had blocked access from "less secure app", of course UnLock.apk!
6. I followed a link in the gmail message and changed the settings so that "less secure apps" could access my account.
7. I repeated steps 2 and 3 again, this time my phone restarted quickly, on the bootloader, I got a message that bootloader was "Unlocked".
8. then I downloaded the CWM you provided and flashed it (fastboot flash recovery cwm.img) in CMD.

Well, I get E-mail notifications and I still own a PadFone 2 - so I guess the answer is yes. Whether I can help you remains to be seen
great, perhaps you can help me further.
It is only indirect related to this tread. My Padfone 2 was soft-bricked, I found this tread, followed the instructions, the ROM starts up well but if I restart it the same old thing. It stops at the boot logo and stays there.
using CWM I can see that every time after a restart, in recovery, /data, /sdcard, /system, /persist and /tombstone are not mounted.
Perhaps this is normal when in discovery, anyway, I can mount all the items except /sdcard.
In CWM I can also see warnings:
E: can't open /cache/recovery/log
what could be going wrong?

I think this could be beyond me, but I can give you a few pointers. If you are planning to flash "my" Kernel and ROM:
- Make sure every file is from the links I provided
- Start the whole flashing thing all over again from the first step
- After CWM is installed, try to format EVERY partition you can find
- If your phone is not unlocked and the motherboard has been serviced, all sorts of things could go wrong
- Note that the ROM is based on the WW firmware, make sure your phone is the same
- Do not use Linux live sessions for flashing - use a full instalation
That's about it. I really can't think of anything clever to add - I hope it helps you somewhat.
thanks for the info Tari01.
the first 3 points were done as per instructions. I formatted all partitions twice on two separate occasions.
As far as I know the phone is unlocked but I didn't use the unlock app after I tried to flash your ROM, or any other ROM for that matter.
But once unlocked it stays unlocked isn't it? I mean, I can flash any recovery.
The second last point: I'm aware of this. I always choose WWE based roms.
your last point: I don't know anything about Linux command lines etc. As a matter of fact, when I use ADB or fastboot I just go through the motions as per instructions but I hardly know what I'm doing.
On the bright side; I'm most likely not the only one.
I will use this phone solely as a learning devices for better understanding of the Android platform and ADB etc.,...
@tari01 - greetings and thanks for a wonderful custom ROM - I have just flashed it and it seems very stable for now.
Two questions though - did you remove the Audio Wizard from the stock ASUS ROM? Don't know 'bout you, but I think the sound was more "vibrant" when docked into the tablet when using a Stock ROM (but the stock rom was more unstable, I have NO IDEA why - gapps/android.system/everything kept crashing after a few hours).
Second, is your custom ROM compatible with Stone Kernel? I would like to try it out (OC version, because, overclock, why not? )
Thanks in advance for a cool ROM, and I shall await your reply.

I removed the Audio Wizard because I saw it as unnecessary bloatware. I doubt it would make any difference, since it only changed audio profiles. I use Rocket Player for music and BS and MX Player for video: all these can be tuned to sound as you like.

I am not sure what would happen if you used an older kernel. In the one that I've built , the CPU governor is not set in stone: If you want to use another one, there are many apps in the Play Store that will allow you to change it, and you can also set the desired frequencies. Note, that of all the CPU governors the one that I set proved to be the most efficient - it runs on a single core when you don't need CPU power, then, as applications request more power, it activates the entire CPU and delivers as much as it can - all this saves a lot of battery power. Overclocking will definitely drain your battery much faster, and I'm not sure you'd get noticeable performance.
@tari01 - thank you for the quick reply and the info provided. I am replying because, as I said, I encountered problems when using stock 4.4.2 - it seems your ROM is not exempt from those problems.
To be more specific, everything on my home screen disappears completely, only the live wallpaper remains, then when I try to open any app from the apps menu, com.google.process.gapps and android.process.acore keep crashing (Unfortunately, xxx has stopped message).
This happens after the phone/tablet is in idle for a few hours (as far as I could test it). I tried wiping cache, etc, but to no avail.
Android 4.1.1 does not have this issue, but the phone/tablet moves like an earthworm compared to 4.4.2 and support is limited.
Any ideas/pointers? I flashed your ROM over a stock 4.4.2 using the images you provided, and using the instructions you provided.
Thank you in advance!

Well, I'm afraid this seems to be out of my league. I'm still using my PF2 (in fact, it's my only phone/tablet), but I have no issues with it. Perhaps the only thing worth mentioning is that I don't use live wallpapers, I let my apps regularly update via Wi-Fi, and that I have a hacked Play Store. The rest is pretty much the same as you'd find it after flashing the ROM. I really have no idea what could be causing the errors you get

Help choosing ROM and Recovery

Hi everyone.
I rooted my Note Pro 12.2 (wifi) a while back and installed a basic rooted ROM, not CW12.
I honestly don't remember which ROM I flashed. I believe it was just a stock de-bloated ROM, and if it's the one I think it is, in the thread it says that ROM was faulty and dev has stopped for it. I see the kernel version and build in the "about" section under settings but I'm not sure if that number would tell me which ROM it is, or just the ROM and kernal that it was built on top of.
I basically wanted a stock style ROM with the ability to change things as I wanted. I'm still noticing a TON of lag. Scrolling on pages, loading apps, screen lag between touch and actual input of characters when using on screen keyboard, etc etc. I've frozen a bunch of bloatware and other things and it helped a little, but it's still pretty bad.
Audio latency with recording and MIDI apps is very bad, but I know that's improved with lollipop.
Aside from lag, it seems that GPS won't lock on no matter how long Iet it look for a signal (hard to tell if it's the ROM, but my Note 4 has found GPS very easily). Also, my Note 4 (unrooted and stock at this point) is waaaaay smoother and faster than this tablet. I realize we're talking about lollipop vs kitkat, and that the Note 4 version I have is the snapdragon one. But it still seems like performance should be better on this tablet.
So I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a good ROM for me to flash until lollipop comes out for the wifi version of this tablet. I want the stock multi-window functions (4 at a time plus floating windows), so CW12 is not an option. I want to use some of the Samsung apps like s note and Hancom office. I use the s-pen from time to time with the pen apps like write-on-screen.
The "rooted" features I want to access are turning off the camera sound (adding the switch to the settings menu in the camera app, not just replacing the sound file with a dummy file) Changing PPI of apps (xposed module) and full access read/write on micro SD cards and really important is the ability to add any app to the multi-window apps list and force orientation. I've been able to do all this with xposed modules.
Other than that, stock would be fine if it wasn't so laggy. The main reason I want to try another ROM is the lag. On screen keyboard has a lot of lag, but even my Logitech k810 bluetooth keyboard is laggy.
I'm also currently travelling and don't have a PC with me. So I'm hoping I can flash the ROM without ODIN, or perhaps I can use one of the ODIN-for-android type things on my Note 4 to flash a ROM to the Note Pro 12.2. Also I have the stock recovey, and would like suggestions on which recovery to use instead. Again, no computer with me to flash a new recovery. Ido have an OTG cable and USB flash drive so Ican back up my files before flashing the new ROM, as well as a miscro SD card.
Any recommendations for a smooth, fast ROM? Any tips on flashing it without a PC? I know I can copy the ZIP to the tablet and flash it from recovery...but it is the stock recovery...is this going to be sufficient?
THANKS!
The hyperdrive rom by sbreen (in the dev section) works great. Isnt there an internet cafe in the vicinity? Ask them for assistance flashing the beast. I love twrp. Good luck!

Thanks! TWRP is I think what's on my Note II back home. My tablet is rooted already of course. For the Hyperdrive ROM, one thing I'm a little confused about is if I have to FIRST install a stock ROM and THEN flash the custom ROM. I'm a little confused about why exactly but I see that in the forums from time to time. It's recommended for certain ROMs. I don't know if flashing the stock ROM updates some other firmware/hardware driver type stuff that's needed for the new kernal to work or what.
There might be an internet cafe. I'm flying from Vienna to Lithuania today. Trying to explain to them that I want them to download and install ODIN might be tough knowing only English and Spanish haha.
Sorry for the noob question but is clicking the thumbs-up icon what generates "thanks" or do I do that somewhere else?

If its rooted you can install twrp without computer (see my link) use twrp manager fromthe play store for that
You only have to flash the custom rom
(Make sure you backup on an ext sd or something, then delete everything in twrp, install custom rom, restart and done) I also always backup the launcher settings, if you backup the apps with titanium restoring is very easy afterwards)
Lemme know if this works for you!

I'm already having trouble installing TWRP. I can't do it from the app, as my device isn't listed. I downloaded the zip file of the correct version of TWRP and tried to flash it using the stock recovery. But when I boot into recovery mode, it still just goes to the stock recovery. Then I downloaded and installed ROM manager from the play store and it shows TWRP as being installed, but whenever I boot into recovery I just get the stock recovery.
I'm back home now and I guess I'll just try to do all this with ODIN.
Is there any reason I can't just install the custom ROM using the stock recovery? That's what I did last time.
Ok So I got TWRP installed via ODIN then I used it to clean wipe and flash Hyperdrive ROM but gmail app won't even open, just crashes immediately, and it's one of the main apps I need so...probably gonna look for another ROM...or most likely gonna flash the stock ROM, unroot and sell the tablet and get a Dell Venue 11 Pro. Might wait till the end of July though, the supposed release date for lollipop on this device.
Had the same problem. Install hyperdrive without the gmail app option. Afterwards install itmvia the play store.
And if you want lollipop give cyanogen a try. I love it (but its a personal thing).
Ad make sure to read the Venue reviews, they are not very positive.

I wanted to try lollipop because I use it for music, and latency is much better with lollipop. My Note 4 is running lollipop and I get way better performance from MIDI keyboards and guitar amp modelling. I really like the multi window functions on the stock and hyperdrive ROMs though, 4 at once, floating, etc. I'm sure as soon as lollipop is officially out for this device, someone will release a rooted version.
Thanks for the tip on gmail, fortunately I read it before getting too deep and just reflashed without gmail it and then installed the gmail app as you suggested and it does work. There still seems to be a bit of delay when using the on screen keyboard, not as fast as I had hoped. But it's up and running.
I was considering the Dell after trying a bunch of different audio and video editing apps for android and realizing that I just need full photoshop, premiere, and Reaper with all my VST plugins, so I need windows. Perhaps Surface Pro is a better choice but I like the Venue's chassis better, fanless, rounded corners. Also new tablets might be coming out with Windows 10 so another reason to wait...
My laptop is great but it's really big and I like a touch interface for on screen mixers and instruments. So I figured a tablet PC might work best for me. But the problem is GUI scaling. with the Windows legacy apps like Premiere and Photoshop, the buttons and menus don't scale, and on an 11" 1080 display they are quite small.
Just wait for win 10 and while waiting fine tune your 12" beast did you try system tuner pro already? You should be able to get less latency from that.
(And did someone mention "buy a Mac" already?
I am surprised, because after testing dozen ROMs I found stock ROM fastest one. Just root and debloat it.
Not so any lag or problems, but with custom ROMS I had a lot of problems.

Indeed, cyanogen requires a lot of tuning (but its what I like about Android, I am more tinkering with it than actually using it I believe

I checked out system tuner pro (didn't buy it yet just read the description) What exactly would I adjust to get lower audio latency? Just clock the CPU higher? OR does it have audio-specific settings not mentioned in the description?

I'm glad I've been using CM12.1 though So I can compare the experience.
Looking forward to the rooted version of stock lollipop making its way to xda as well! Now... to figure out the best way to back up my current installation...

[Rom] [Stock] [Rooted] [Deodexed] [Debloated] [TWRP Flashable Zip] [SM-T350]

The reason I am posting here and not in the Rom section is because I am not a developer. I am an Android enthusiast who, with the help of a few awesome tools, some reading and some help from a couple of great devs, I was able to build a custom rom from a stock first release. I have been running it now for a couple of weeks and battery life is awesome. Just enough Samsung apks left in too call it a stock rom but not so many to cause it to lag. I thought that since it was running so nice, I would share it with you. So, without further ado, this is what I came up with.
"Ghost Project v1.0 6.0.1 t350" This is only for the t350.
With the help of a few awesome people, that provided me with the direction and resources links, I was able to take a stock firmware.tar (T350XXU1BPE3) and make a TWRP flashable zip. This is what I came up with:
I am not a developer..... Let me make this clear.. Lol.. I am not a developer. But I did use an awesome tool that allowed me to make this rom " superr kitchen" .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/kitchen-superrs-kitchen-t3202296/page26
So first and foremost a big thanks goes out to this developer for this awesome tool.
I would also like to give props to Samsung and Sammobile.com for the firmware.
The kernel is from http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/development/kernel-galaxy-tab-sm-t555-5-8-2016-t3433560 and is a stock, permissive kernel. By "[ashyx, http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4899305 Recognized Contributor]" another awesome dev. This is a stock kernel in every respect with SElinux set to permissive.
I would also like to thank and give props to"{FankieT} of {R3Ds themes and Development}" https://plus.google.com/communities/102477541363210451018 for all of his help and guidance. He was who got me started into Linux through Ubuntu and spent many hours teaching this old dog the ways of Android coding. Just a pinch of coding on my part..lol

Use at your own risk. ********You have been warned..*********
Features:
1. Rooted with chainfires SuperSu in system, not systemless (I hate systemless root)
2. Busybox installed
3. Debloated. I didn't go too far (for reliability) but will work on getting more Samsung system apps removed.
4. Zip aligned
5. Deodexed (I may make one that is odexed later on)
6. Removed Kies
7. Custom kernel
Stock but SElinux permissive (see note on developer in Intro)
8. Some script changes but nothing to change system behavior
9. Added ES File explorer v3.2.5.
This app will try to update unless Play Store settings are changed to not auto update. But if you like the latest than update it.
10. Added Nova Launcher v3.3
I don't like the newer Material Designed updated builds. This will also try to update unless settings in Play Store are set to not auto update.
11. Latest Google Keyboard.
I just don't care for Samsung's and like the theming features of Google's latest keyboard. Samsung keyboard is still in though if you prefer to use it instead.
12. According to the toolkit, Knox was removed. Although I still see it in the settings tab under Settings/about phone. I don't think this can be removed safely however all updates (annoying notifications stating that there is an update available) have been removed so there shouldn't be any chance of accidentally updating to the latest firmware, if any is released. If you want an update than you will have to download any updates ( if the are any) from Samsung and use Odin to install it.
Kernel:
Here is a link to the kernel developer's thread, who is another awesome dev, who's kernel is the heart of this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...el-galaxy-tab-sm-t555-5-8-2016-t3433560/page8
By "[ashyx, Recognized Contributor]" This is a stock kernel in every reguard with SElinux set to permissive.
A few other small things here and there but mostly stock.
-This is a flashable zip using TWRP recovery and I highly recommend the 2.8.7.0 build as apposed to the 3.0.2.0 build that is also on XDA in this forum.
Link to recovery built by "ashyx" an awesome dev...

-Since this is a stock rom build, gapps are included
#####Flashing instructions#######
###MUST BE ON MARSHMALLOW BUILD ****T350XXU1BPE3******####### so, if you are on a lollipop build (5.0.1) you need to update to 6.0.1 and have TWRP installed........
1. Make a backup onto your external SD card or on a PC using TWRP recovery. This is a very important step as things do go wrong. You have been warned.
2. Wipe. I recommend a clean install with all 4 major wipes done (system, Cache, Dalvik Cache and Data)
3. Flash "Ghost Project v1.0 6.0.1 t350" rom zip.
4. Wipe both Cache and Dalvik Cache
5. Reboot to system and profit.
*****The first boot will take a long time to boot. Put the device down and walk away until it boots (could take up to 15 minutes ) but most likely around 12 to 15 minutes. That is because all files are deodexed.
After it boots up Go ahead and set up the device the way you like it and enjoy.
I also have a Google Plus Communitee Called "Hayes Tech Rom Reviews" where you can go to watch reviews/overviews of custom roms for many devices that I own. I have about 20 to 25 devices now and try to do reviews on all the diferent roms out for them. I also have awesome links like the 3Minit battery mod by{made by "gharrington"} for the Nexus 6 and many more things. Please feel free to stop by.

**LAST BUT NOT LEAST****USE AT YOUR OWN RISK**
Warning, I am not a developer. All I am doing is sharing my personal build. I am not nor will I be responsible for anyone ruining your device. Thermonuclear war or Loss of job from device not working is your responsibility. And above all this zip will void your warranty.
I can't think of anything else..lol.. This is the first time for me so I'm not too sure about proper post etiquette for Custom Roms. I am not posting in the roms section because I am not a developer. I do not have the skills those great people have. We just do not have any stock based roms yet and mine is running great so I am sharing with you all. I am going to try to add more custom features and may even add a pure stock rom for total stock experience, let me know... Enjoy.
A video review of my rom... Go here if you would like to see it

I built another rom for those that want the stock experience but still want it rooted and Knox removed. It is also Zip Aligned and is running the same permissive kernel for Xposed Mods to work better with it.

Yes it does. I used the kernel that is in this forum to build it with and it is a permissive kernel. The version is v87.1-sdk23-arm made by Wanam specifically for Samsung. I am running it now asking with gravitybox and a few other mods.
Just remember that since it is deodexed it will take a long, long time to boot. I timed it on my last 2 flashes at around 13 minutes both times. My battery life is outstanding.

Just installed this, flashed it and xposed at the same time, took 7 minutes to boot the first time.
Updating, reinstalling and debloating things I don't need now.
Seems faster than the debloated 5.02 rom I was on.
Will keep you posted after everything is done

everything works great.
Quick question, what did you use to change your clock and signal icon colors?
Wanam isn't changing the clock color or left hand icons for me.

Thats great... It takesk me 13 minutes on both ( plus or minus)... Every device will respond differently though so the boot times will vary. Thats Awesome.

I screwed something up with a xposed module (I guess, everything was fine until I installed a power menu module and told it to reboot into recovery). No matter what I did, It would only boot into twrp. Even if I powered off and plugged the charger in, instantly twrp. Reflashing the rom did absolutely nothing, I had to odin stock then reflash this rom.
Ah well, live and learn with xposed.. I know not to install that power module lol

I hear ya. Xposed is something I use only if I know the module. I never use test version (anymore .. lol) I did the same thing you did a whike back with some other mod.
The only mods I use are Gravitybox, Notify Clean, Xuimod, and sometimes either HK theme engine out Xtheme engine. Gravitybox has most all mods that I need built right in it including an advanced powed menus settings.
Also, when you were in that issue, did you try using the Xposed uninstall zip? That may have got you fixed up too.

Well, even with gravitybox's reboot menu, if i have it boot me into recovery it sets the recoverybit and makes me reflash stock firmware.
so DON'T pick recovery from your reboot menu

I use it all the time. I just rebooted into recovery just before I responded here. Anyways there are also app on the p
Play Store that will reboot you to recovery too, like "Quickboot". I don't understand why this is giving you issues. What version of recovery are you on? There are problems with the 3.0.2.0. I used the other one on this forum 2.7.8.0.
