I'll look into it!
EDIT: Sadly, g+ only. I was hoping it was SMS too ):

Another Mirror https://www.file1.info/nstyXcW there is no other way for some tablet user (Nexus 7/10 or GTab2) to get the app, but it works on this Tablets.

As of right now it basically replaces Google talk and google+ messaging. Rumer has it that it is eventually supposed to also replace google voice and other messenging things like SMS.

Yeah, it is very beautiful. As of now, it is basically like a really cool ui update of Google Talk.
---------- Post added at 09:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ----------
And updated Google+ is now live too

No contact status? No contact list that reorders based on contact status?
I rolled it back to Talk for now. I can't really stand having a huge list of everyone to whom I've ever written a Gmail. Am I missing something here?

Thanks
Thanks for telling us!
I have no ideia of this "update"

I can't see the big differences from the old app.
Can you send photos and videos or files with it like whatsapp? I haven't found a way to do it.
Furthermore I can't add a photo to my chat profile without having to add it to Google +.
And my contacts that I have pictures of in my contact book are shown without pictures in the chat since they haven't got a picture on Google+.
So far I am a little bit disappointed with these issues and whatsapp will unfortunately still be a more preferable way for me to send messages for a while longer.

"NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. Rest assured Hangouts will be available soon for all Android 2.3+ devices, tablets included!" - From Google

I got it working when it released yesterday. I was having the same problem with it opening to Gtalk.
All I did was used TiBu to wipe data and uninstall Gtalk. I then went to the play store and installed it.

Facebook Video Upload

This feels like something which should be already built into the integrated Facebook app but it isn't. tried a few 3rd party apps like BBF Upload but the are all a bit rubbish. Videos too large to email via Googlemail. Only option remaining is to sideload to a PC and upload from there. Surely an easier way. Anyone got this working on the stock ROM?

I was having the same issue the other day. I also noticed the FB iphone app has the chat option. Why does the android version lack these essential features?

Not the perfect solution, but if you grab the new AIM beta on your desktop and enable FB Chat, and then install the AIM app from the market, you can use FB chat through aim on your phone. It actually works perfectly, been using it for about a month now.
And yea, I remember FBook [i think] having a video upload feature that actually worked, but I like the native FB app for everything else so much more.

No Contact Pics in Messaging App??

So only issue I have with this phone so far is that none of my Contacts Pics show in the messaging app. My contact pics are all there in Contacts though. I tried hard resetting and setting up the phone again and it didn't fix it....so I'm stumped. Anyone out there having same issue or know how to fix it?

I know this donte help you much but I do not have that problem. I have all my contact pics showing.

In the stock message apparently specifically though, bullseye69?.. Not just your phone contacts list? I seem to be having issues with contact pics not showing up in various Google apps (gTalk for example) while everything seems to be syncing fine.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
the only contacts in messaging app that appear are the ones that have their google accounts synced with a picture
My contact pics are good in stock messaging. Even my wife's contact pic who does not have a google account, that I set manually with my G1 years ago. I did notice my own contact pic changed to an older one when I switched phones...
Is there a better messaging app? I do miss the vibrants default

Facebook sync in gingerbread.

Anyone get it to work on EB1.03? I know it works on CM7 but it's still waaaay too buggy for me right now to use as a daily.
Doesn't work on the leaked rom either. Doesn't even give the option in the facebook app to sync contacts.

If you read up about the launch of the Nexus S and Facebook, you will see this is because Google removed the sync ability of Facebook. Google is pissed because Facebook displays it's contacts in the address book without storing it locally. Previously, Google gave Facebook special API access to the contacts app, but they have removed it as of Gingerbread. Facebook will have to update their sync so it adds it to the shared contacts of the phone.

GPass: Real
Enable Intergration: Yes(Check this after step 4)
Intergration Type: ROOT

Sig Sent: blank
Sig Recieve: blank
Recieve Notifications: Naitive

6) After reboot, run Messenger and Voice at the same time. Send some texts through messenger to your number. If you dont recieve a reply your gvoice app needs to relogin. Searching for the GV integration app in the play store on my nexus 7, I found a free app that appears to do everything this guide purports to accomplish without any extra steps. Just install the app, allow access to your gmail account (you don't have to type in your password) and you're ready to send text messages from the included stock MMS app

Some Stock MMS apps arn't supported. I used the wuick reply ones and they dont seem to be tablet friendly. You have to trial and error with the mms's that are out and see your cup of tea. the cm10 stock white works best and always notifys.

I can't find it with my XOOM either. However, if I look at Play on my computer, I can find it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...tZHJ0b29scy5hcHBzLmd2aW50ZWdyYXRpb24uZnJlZSJd
Says this app is not compatible with my XOOM but is with my E4GT. I don't need it on my E4GT.
Is there a way to force the app to install anyway?
If I can figure a way to get this working with out needing root, I want to it setup on my father's tablet (TF101), where root isn't an option.
He hates smartphones; he's still using a Sanyo Katana lol

As A TF101 owner, it can be rooted. But I'm assuming you mean you don't want to root his.
And you could always install it to your E4GT and then pull the app, save it somewhere and then uninstall it.
Then sideload it on the Xoom.

Or, just use Mighty Text for free from the play store. SMS + MMS, plus you get to keep your phone number and integrates with Google Voice. It's free, you can utilize it via tablet and/or a Chrome extension.

Yup close enough. All my stuff is rooted, but as far as some older folks are concerned, some believe roots are for plants. *shrugs*
They still wonder occasionally why they can't see their Gmail when they open the Email app.
It's all good, I might just put GV on there and see if that is good enough before I spend too much time looking into this.

Set the GV icon to YES for statues bar and make sure gvoice is intergrated with the check. Does it instantly fail? if so then you messed up a step but if it trys sending and fails after trying for 10+ seconds this should fix it.

I found this and am using the GV integration APK from OP only and mating that with HTC Desire Z(tmobile g2) with not carrier(wifi only) running Andromadus Mimicry v1.5.0 ROM and it work just as well as M+GV but without the price.
I have latest market Google Voice APK from market and it makes this integration have a bug. Notification must be enabled in the Google Voice app to receive messages to stock messaging app. I believe this is do to a update in the Google Voice app. this same bug occurs with the $5 M+GV app from the market ATM. You get dual notification but I can live with that until its fixed.
THANKS!!!!!!! saved me the hassle of clicking cancel all the time in M+GV because $5 was too salty for a toy project.
Now to continue the search for getting MMS in stock messaging
Which apk is GV Integration in relation to Google Play? It's reading as the paid version for me.
I installed the mms.apk from the op link but it keeps f/c
Everything works fine , just not over the mms app

Facebook contacts sync

Did 4.4 KitKat by a chance add some way of syncing Facebook contacts with the phones contacts. Or people app I should say. Or do we still have to use third party apps like haxsync?

Nope. That most likely will never come back.
Ubersync does a fantastic job of doing it though. Been using it since 4.0

same here. i now downloaded it from pirate bay but it does not work (v2.5.2). When I add the HaxSync account in the settings, I can login with my Facebook credentials, then facebook asks for permissions and when I click to proceed, just a white screen appears and nothing happens.
A question to the guys with a Nexus 5 and HaxSync working: which version do you use?

Previously I had HTC One X and I loved that integration with facebook. I have noticed long time ago that HTC puts facebook tag data for every contact (note field) so that can easily connect my phone contacts with facebook profiles any time.
Is there any way to use that data to do the same with N5 (or any other device)?

I know exactly what you mean. And the answer is: No. Unfortunately not. I have already spent hours to restore and relink the HTC facebook tags on other HTC and non HTC phones. Nothing is working.
I now found the app Contacts+ and it seems to have everything I was looking for. Recommendable so far.
It seems that haxsync can use htcdata tag and sync your contacts, but unfortunately it is removed from the Play store because of some issues with Facebook Platform Policy Team .
