June 26th is the date. $649 is the price.

Yes it will have a micro sd card as stated in the key note.
And before people ask here. No it will not have any of the so called samsung goodies.
This is completely retarted why would Samsung create a Google edition? Not that's its bad just don't make sense

Seems like HTC is bringing out an Google version of the HTC One as well.

B2t, i would like the Stock version of the S4, but if HTC also releases a stock of their HTC one, then i definitly gonna buy the Stock HTC.
I would totally buy this thing if they had used software keys. Galaxy Nexus II?; sounds better than "Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus Edition" The same goes for HTC except that would be a little harder to name.
Is samsung stuff still there.. according to google version of s4
I was wondering if they would leave the Samsung extras or pull them. I actually really like this move towards offering a plain version of the phone. It's making me really considering leaving Vz.

Guys, are you serious? This is just what EVERYBODY wanted for years...now the realization has just begun! Pure Android, micro SD, good cam, a "normal" manufacturer without nexus handcuffs...man, this is just great! I don´t know if I really will switch within the next few weeks or months, but this is the first step in the IDEAL direction!
Just great!

I do like all that screen, I just dont like "moving parts" and wonky button layouts. HTC got it right with the One X and got it wrong with the One, IMO. This GS4 NE is a smart move for Samsung and Google though.

If my note 2 didn't have such good aosp ROM and kernel support I'd ditch it for the S4GE. This is the dream Nexus. Top hardware (mostly) with no bs software. Perfect. Folks will argue for a 32gb version but whatever... As far as price, I think it's right where it should be, that's how much unlocked bleeding edge devices cost.
So what do you guys think about development? Will the devs go for the SGS4 or the SGS4 Google? (Same question for the HTC One)
I think they will go for the Google version for both phones, but that would be stupid for all those guy which bought an SGS4 or HTC One because they expected the devs would focus on these, so i am not sure about that.

HTC google edition? HTC said they were not making one.
As for development I dont see the S4GE selling well when Devs can get the same thing for far cheaper up front.

Sorry, had been wrong on the first point. Will the S4GE be as open as the Nexus devices are or is it just a S4 with Stock Android, did not get that point.
So I'm thinking of buying an S4 next week (on contract from Three), do you guys think I'll be able to install Google's own ROM when they release it?
Or will I actually have to buy Google's S4 edition?
This is going to be the best of both worlds!!!
What I always hated about Samsung phones? Software!
Sloppy bloat- and crap-ware, late updates (sometimes as much as 1.5 year late btw),etc.
What I don't like about nexus? Limited hardware!
Chopped off sdcard, no apt-x, etc.
So this is going to be the mix of what I like about both.
Or maybe I wish it would be... Unless G chops off the sd slot last second or S would stick some piece of crap in the midst of pure android!
Or well, I won't buy it then ... again ...

I'm considering to buy a long lasting phone and Nexus S seem to be good, do you think it will survive over 2 years without casing? I'm good at caring phone, my current Sony Ericsson G900 is already over 2 years old and still functioning perfectly (it looks worn out clearly) and most people who have my phone broke within a year.
Nexus S is going to be my first Android phone, only thing that I don't like that you can't enable or disable flash in camera mode, it will decide if it should flash or not by it own. The design seem awkward but I could handle it.
I'm also considering Incredible S but it doesn't have enough developers and it's still locked, so I guess I should go for Nexus S.
What do you think, will it survive more than 2 years?

It depends of what you talking about ? If hardware wise maybe and Evo 3D , htc sensation or SGSII but about updates most likely this one , any phone that is in the market and is a high end device most likely get ice cream(next big update for android) , nexus s most likely get it before anyone else(besides maybe nexus 3) google is trying to get manucfactures to make sure their phones they get updates within 18 months since launch but first they havent sign a form or paper that says they will second they haven't said for how long after google releases the update they need to release it as well so for all I know they could take 6 months( Evo is getting official gingerbread after 6 months, rolling out June 6, and the Evo was one of the best android phones in 2010 and a best carrier phone ) So I would stick with google if you want timely updates , that's one of the reason I got Me a nexus s
He is talking about the phone durability and yes, I would say it should last 2 years. It's made of plastic but it's not poor quality, it's much better then the galaxy S.
Since its a Google phone, you can't go wrong on picking it, it will always have the up-to-date software and will always have developers, even after 3 years (well, unless its about hardware limitation).
Its currently one of the best (if not the best) single core devices on the market, its definitely future proof.
And the camera does have the ability to turn the flash on or off, depending on your preferences.
The design is gorgeous btw, at least I think it is. The curve form is unique and when the display is turned off it looks completely black and clean, I think it looks very elegant.

Hi all, as the title
I dunno is it the best time to go for Samsung Galaxy Nexus
but I really love it
because my current phone is LG optimus one which is my 1st android phone
furthermore, once I buy either 1 of them I don't want to change phone for 2year, so if get Nexus now, then get next 2 generation Nexus phone(same to other)
so which should I go ??
and also since MWC gonna reach, and sure got new phone announce
but after wait them announce, still need wait them release, and bring by either Samsung, LG, Motorola and other for my country for the original set
*i prefer original set than ap set(not sure other country got ap set or not)
so anyone please help me decide ><
thanks
Regards
Imo it's not worth the wait because the SGSIII will be like the nexus but with better internal specs which really isn't noticeable, unless you like to play games a lot on your phone or something.
SGS2 over the nexus if you can live with touchwiz or CM9. Benefit of a nexus line is that you get updates first and a true aosp rom.
SGS3 may be out Q2 or even Q3 if it gets delayed. Who knows what improvements it will bring.

I would go for galaxy nexus instead of waiting. I hate waiting for new phones. I think, if you have a good phone, it will remain good although a new one was released in next months
If you don't mind Touchwiz and love specs, probably the S3. But if you want the fastest updates and can't wait get the Galaxy Nexus. It's impossible to stay on top of everything in the mobile space unless you got a bunch of cash to burn. If you keep waiting there will be more developments but at what cost?

Yes the Nexus has it. You should go for the Nexus. Both phones are basically equal specs wise, but the Nexus is always going to be special. Also, if you want an SGSIII when it comes out the Nexus will hold its resale value better than the SGSII.

There is a great camera comparison between the 2 phones. If camera is your MOST important feature, I would go with the SGSII. If you like AOSP and the Nexus line, go with the Nexus. With the review though, the cameras aren't that far apart, and the Nexus takes better pictures with the flash. I personally have just bought a Nexus.

Plus the GN has almost a year of development time, it hasn't been a month yet for the GS3. Give it some time there will be some killer stuff on this phone.
Btw.. The roms and themes already available for the GS3 are fantastic, battery life is great and it will only get better. Go for the better hardware, roms will come!

I would honestly be surprised if the next Nexus phone is available on Verizon.
The GNEX was problematic because of the CDMA radio. The whole 'not a real nexus' and all. I think google has shown us how they want to start selling Nexus devices, and it doesn't appear to involve a carrier.

Well, what about the GS3 Developer edition?
I don't think you'll regret having the S3! It's been a great phone, and even though it's "locked" - there are/will be plenty of custom ROM's, hacks, and themes you can put into it!
I like the concept of the Galaxy Nexus but the screen is not as great as the S3, and even though it's only a 4.3 inch device, while the S3 is 4.8 - the S3 is the same size as the nexus and even a little thinner!!! Definitely nicer in my opinion!
Hey there,
I got my one s 3 months ago because of it has s4 processor. But same day i got the phone i learnt it has a s3 processor. Then i didnt give the phone back.

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't send it back. I have used the Nexus for quite a while and selled it a month ago because I wanted the One S. I really don't regrett it. I like the feel, the looks, the size and pretty much everything more then those from the Nexus. Unfortunatly there is no Cyanogenmod/ParanoidAndroid availible for the S3 version. This is the only thing I don't like about this phone. But I hope there will be in the future because more and more S3 devices get selled. Here in Germany you have to be lucky to get the S4 version (in every shop there are only the S3 versions). Maybe I'll sell it in the future and get a Nexus (if I like it), who knows...

Complain to your carrier, say you were expecting an S4 but you got an S3. Push them, and they'll give it. Or get a written confirmation from your carrier, allowing you to replace the phone by sending it to HTC and requesting an S4 processor. Sure, it is a hassle, but if you ask me it's well worth it.
I'm sort of on the same train of thought. I really do like the HTC but the development or lack of development kind of makes me want to sell it and hope that HTC will come out with a Nexus or something of the sort...
If HTC does make a nexus, it will be heavily priced.

I've already rooted it and I have Trickdroid on it. Are you sure it will work?

Hi
I'm planning to move on from my SGS 2 to a newer model.. but I'm not able to make up my mind.
I'm interested in the 4G SGS 3 though I've been thinking about the next nexus phone from LG or the upcoming HTC One X+...
My current phone is working perfectly fine but I'm looking for a phone with more speed as well as with 4G/LTE..
Should I wait it out for early next year to have better choices or should I just go in for the SGS 3?
By the way, Samsung is my preferred manufacturer, followed by HTC.. I've no idea how LG phones are in terms of build quality, support, etc.
Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Thanks.. I like the SGS3 a lot, though it's just so difficult to decide on one phone...
By the way, here in Finland, we have a deal going on for the Galaxy Nexus, with the current price of 370€ (http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/s?s=1&q=51397+or+23156) and is valid until next Monday 21.10 and this seems to be the best deal in Finland at the moment. The standard price is ~450€ I think...
Is there any sense is getting the Galaxy Nexus considering there are the newer Nexus devices coming up? In particular HTC “J Butterfly” Nexus 5 (along with the LG Nexus as mentioned previously)?
Thanks again. Cheers...
Edit: Also, regarding the processor, I'm no expert but from the reviews and reports, I see there are the Tegra 3 processors (like the one in HTC One X+) or the Qualcomm 'snapdragon' processors or Exynos processors and similar... Which is the better one? Should I chose a device that comes with a specific processor if I want to have a speedy, fast, high end phone?
And of course, I would like a manufacturer that regularly updates the OS without major delays whenever a new Android is being released...
Well I have the nexus, and that price is very very high. Ofcourse it is new from store but I have my nexus for 275 euro's. Second hand but only 6 month's old. Great phone but if I were you, I should wait for the gs4. Depends on how fast you need a phone, considering the gs4 is coming out in march 2013. If you can't wait I should definately buy the HTC one X+ or the GS3.

Thanks a lot.
I'm not in a real hurry to get a new phone as my current SGS2 is working great (and there is a possibility that JB will arrive soon for the SGS2)... But I just wanted to kind of 'upgrade' from the SGS2 to a more powerful, newer phone... Hence my questions regarding should I really wait (though I understand it's a kind of silly question considering how many new devices keep popping up every month) or just go in for a model such as the SGS3 or HTC One X+ that's been proven to be a great phone....
Basically I can wait for the new one.. I'm looking at having a new one by March/April 2013.
If you can wait just wait Mate, I know your feelings so many new phones but can't choose a good one and every time there is coming a new one out.

Work phone with an exact requirement/feature
Background:
I have just bought a Motorola Defy Plus. The reason I purchased it was - I wanted a phone that could allow me t record work calls and Defy Plus seemed promising as it enjoys good amount of support in the developers here and it was like very cheap. Now when I see the work involved in rooting and flashing custom rom I find myself not too sure about my capability of managing the whole process. Even if I do manage the rooting and flashing the custom rom, I still do not have any definitive information if call recording will be possible
New search:
Given the above now I am exploring any other phones that will allow me to take care of this requirement of recording my calls incoming and outgoing , without speaker, in the stock straight out of the box condition. Besides this particular requirement my usage of the phone is very mundane - some voice calls, minimal texting , little bit of email, no games , minimal camera, once in a while a couple of minutes of music if ever.
So if any of you can give me a suggestion i.e. which phone and which app - if you have a working combo - which will solve my problem shall appreciate it very much.
Cheers
Wait, even if the nexus devices aren't to your liking they are going to drive the price of current devices down. I have the SGS3 but sources / docs for exynos processors are sketchy so support isn't stellar. TBH if support matters go with nexus although you'll have to sacrifice sd support.

SD support meaning expandable SD card support/feature?
Well.. that's another thing I'd like to have (I forgot to mention before)... I need a phone that will enable me expand my storage with an external SD card.

Me too
Forget the galaxy nexus it is getting a little bit old i decided to go ahead whit the s3 and i have no complaints..
Speed is awesome
Battery life gets me from 9am to 11pm depending on how you/i use it.
Camera is good ( there is noise in low light shots )
Build quality is the same as the s2 ..
I dont know why but i got a feeling that lg making a nexus will be a mess..

Galaxy S3
I would recommend the G3. You can wait for the next phone to come up but you'll find that there is always a new phone about to be launched so you can wait forever. I've recently transitioned to the g3 and enjoy it very much. Liked it a lot better once I rooted and put a JB rom on it.
I'd go with a sgs3

Personally I struggle to wait, but seriously we are talking days here and once the nexus is announced the prices of the current flagship devices is going to come down.
