I just installed Android Revolution HD, which I really like, works perfectly.
Now the only issue I have is that Kies (windows 8 - all drivers installed) stopped working it gives me the error unknown device.
Wanted to know if this is a known issue or something I can solve from my side.
It was just an easy way to sync pc to tablet or vice versa. Don't like to use google stuff to work around.
Kies is for stock only. It won't work with custom ROM's.

kies should work with custom roms as long the necessary files are not removed.
Should ask in revolution thread and see if others have it working.
(I dont have my pc with me now to test.
Will let u know in 2 days)

Thank you for your offer in helping me in this particular case.
this is what's happening when trying to post in the revolution thread:
you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
•Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum
that's why I'm here in this particular thread
I tried some alternatives to kies, it's not the best either, but honestly the ones I tried are just a work around and don't perform as well and have a lot of limitations.
Calendar sync is for me very important as I use the tablet at work.
Just happen to fall in love with the android revolution HD Rom

I'm sorry if I'm telling people what to do but this forum is ATM to messy.
The moderator should clean it up by pinning the guides to the top and making a "Rom bible" thread where we could locate all the different ROM's.
FAQ thread should be made as well.

ha ha i think that was funny. Functionally this is very useful. What aplhabet priority will you give to arrange it. Just continue with what you have started I hope the Mods take note of this.
Yeah i agree with the op, i hope mods will take care of it!
All you had to do was ask
I'll get this done today or tomorrow. Appreciate the help in getting the links together. I don't have a Defy, so I'm not familiar with all the procedures etc...
I'll definitely do an "FAQ" type thread for all the main guides.
I'm not 100% sure about a ROM list as that is something that will always be changing and require update all the time. I think it may be easier just to let users find their own ROMs?
Opinions?
That would be cool!
Maybe you could include a link to the wiki page. It would than be easier to keep the ROM list up-to-date.
PS: You can find the Defy wiki-page at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Defy
I added the links to the wiki page.
OK, seems good, so the ROM part is done aswell.

It would be workable but it would need two things - ideally a Mod dedicated to the Defy section or at least actively monitoring it and secondly when someone starts a new thread about a ROM, to PM said Mod so that they weren't having to constantly trawl through the section to check for them.
I also think it would be useful is all thread titles were formatted similarly - if it's a ROM, start with [ROM]; if it's a guide, start with [guide] etc etc.
That and trying to keep question threads out of here, have them all moved to the general section.
In fact, now that I think about it, isn't it possible to have it so that any new threads hidden until authorised by a Moderator? That way any threads purely asking questions could be weeded out immediately and, indirectly, the/a Mod would end up aware of any new threads that needed to be added to a FAQ/sticky thread and also fix any badly-formatted title.
I know it would potentially add a slight delay to new threads appearing if there were an Mod actively monitoring the Defy section it shouldn't be too bad.
Sorry for just suggesting ways to increase your workload but I'm just thinking out loud...

I'm happy to keep a list of ROMs up to date if I get help in being informed of any new ones etc....I visit all my allocated forums MANY times per day (probably more than I should, even at work ), so that's not a problem. I'm always just a PM away, any time of day or night, unless I'm asleep
Because I visit all my forums so often, there's rarely a time when there are any question threads in the dev section...I like to move them as soon as I see them, so thats another issue I am managing no problem.
I was considering implemeting the same method as you suggested, using the [ROM], [Guide] etc tags in each thread title as they work well in other forums. I'll create a sticky with more information tonight after work.
The Defy forum has become a lot more populated over the last month or so, which is why things are getting a little more cluttered, so hopefully we can all work together and keep it clean and structured
Please feel free to suggest anything else you think will improve the forums

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest otherwise.
I just wasn't consciously aware of you having been around here and also since you're managing 9 sections eek, I thought maybe it would be unfair to ask so much.
I mean, I've done the moderating thing (elsewhere) but I doubt I could've dealt with that sort of load.
About moving questions away from the Dev section, I had also wondered if it might be worth having a sub-section for questions rather than throwing them into the General section, that way it's easier for people to see if a similar question had already been asked.
But I guess most of the questions will be about particular ROMs/Guides etc and will therefore be asked in that thread, so maybe that'd be unnecessary...
Nah nah, it's ok, I know you didn't imply anything
Yea, it's a difficult one with question threads...most of them are related to ROMs or a particular ROM...and if not they are usually general enough to be put into the General forum, which is intended for general chit-chat on a device, or questions.
Some mods like to have a Q&A dedicated sticky thread in the dev section, but im not a big fan of these.
I think the FAQ/Guide sticky should help somewhat in reducing the number of question posted in the dev section.
I was thinking, some sort of Glossary/FAQ thread/post would also be quite useful.
Terms like 'ClockworkMod' and so on get thrown around and whilst there is a thread on how to install it, there isn't really anything that explains clearly to people starting out what it is.

That's maybe a bit much...we can't go spoon feeding everyone. Clockworkmod is covered over many devices in xda forums. Search is a very handy tool
But if somone wants to write something up, please fell free
First of all, I would like to thank in advance the guys who answer my questions.
1)I ve read some threads about Xoom and I see most of you are in 3.2 and in Europe we don't have even 3.1 . How can I make it to be a US version to get the updates? Is it safe or should I wait?
2)My first priority is to find a way to root my device. I saw a one-click root way but the files are offline from xda and it says that it has issues with EUR versions. Whats your advice? Can you help me with the steps because I dont have much android knowledge?
3)Whats your opinion about custom roms for Xoom and how can I flash from 3.01?
Thanks again, and if you have any suggestions on what apps you love using in your xoom it would be great
Apps go the apps section and read.
Changing to us version and flashing roms etc go to the development section and read.
You clearly don't like to chat m8, If I found a topic for EUR but the links are offline as I said before. There are people who like to share their knowledge thats why its a q/a thread and not app section or dev section.

Hi there, welcome to the Xoom family.
Like every family, some members like to talk and others don't.
It's true that the threads you want are mostly in the Development section.
Since you are on Wifi only it should be pretty easy for you to flash the US wifi image (you will actually find that in the 1st post in General) but you should read a bit just to make sure you know what steps to take. Also, language packs are available if you need a language other than English, French or Spanish, but there may be some complications.
I would advise you against using any type of one click rooting method. The Xoom is easy to unlock and root, but is more complicated than many phones. On the plus side, it's pretty hard to brick as long as you follow instructions. Prepare to use adb and you'll do fine. Once you've unlocked and flashed the US image, you will get the OTA updates as soon as you are on a wifi connection. This is where you need to see which rooting method will be best for you. You will need to install the Tiamat Clockwork Mod Recovery 3.2.0.0 (from solarnz's thread) so you can flash from the micro sdcard) There are ways to root from 3.0, 3.1 and from 3.2. Head over to the Development section and look for what you want. Once you are rooted, check out the Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.0 Manta Ray. It really rocks. You will have to wipe user data for many of these steps, so don't bother with setting up more than you have to until you are at you final destination, so to speak.
Good luck!
Hey XDA,
I have been around for a while, gone through two phones and have had no problems rooting, flashing ROMs, etc. thanks to all of the amazing people on the site. I have come to a point though, that I am interested in learning to port ROMs (and maybe even build a ROM from AOSP, but I am taking this one step at a time). I have looked all over the Chef Central -> Android section and the Q & A section and have been unable to find a solid guide on porting ROMs from a device with different hardware than the device you want to port to. I am sorry if this has been answered elsewhere and I try to contribute as much as I can. I hope I am not inconveniencing anyone too much. If a thread already exists that can help me out, I would greatly appreciate a link, then you can close this thread.
I am only trying to port between the ATT and internation GS3s, so it shouldn't be too hard, right?
The ROM I am trying to port is PA 2.99 beta8.
Thanks,
#TekGadgt

I will give it a go! Thanks. I had noticed this one, but was unsure if it would work between devices with different hardware. I see now that it does. I will work on that ASAP. One more question though, what do you do about devices with different resolutions? I noticed the guide is for devices with the same resolution.
Someone just gave me their old Xoom, and I've managed to successfully root it using the LAOIT tools, now I'd like to install a rom. Well after reading through several of the pinned threads, which linked to something called Team Tiamat or something, apparently those roms are for Android 3?? Either way all the download links for it are dead. So I found something called TeamEOS for Android 4... and of course all the download links for it are also dead. And the thread is closed. But it said to go to the JB EOS thread. So I did. And that thread is also closed.
Could anyone point me to a rom for the Xoom that I can still actually download? Without having to go through thread upon thread upon thread of closed threads?

Thanks for your help! I don't think that one was mentioned in any of the pinned topics.
What do you mean a daily driver? I've rooted and installed custom ROMs on 3 different devices, at least a dozen times each, and I've never once come across the term "daily driver".
Daily Drivers means a ROM that's stable enough for daily use. . Personally I use cm10.1 with big part and its rock steady!

I think you have had some expectations, and XDA doesn't work like that (at least not now). For each device there is a separate forum, and under that forum you can find threads with ROMs, kernels, recoveries and other stuff. In each thread usually you can find download links along with the instructions on how to proceed with installation. So if you are really interested with installing custom ROM, you have to make the effort of searching and reading. There is no easy way, otherwise you can screw your device for good. Please take this into consideration
