I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-910T) that I haven't used for some time. I want to install a custom ROM. I have already rooted it and installed a custom recovery. HERE'S the problem. No matter where I look I can not find a list of ROMS for this phone. I thought XDA-developers was the go to place for every custom ROM. I thought there was a way to search for ROMS for my specific device. No matter what, I can not find a place where I can search for "Samsun Galaxy Nore 4 (SM-910T)" and find a list of everything available. Like I said, I am a complete idoit. Please help.
Thankyou,
(idiot) Jim.

I haven't installed a custom ROM in about 6 years and I have only done it once. I seem to recall a LONG list of phones that you would search through for your device. THis site must have changed since then because I am not finding what I am looking for.. Isn't there a download page SOMEWHERE?

Well I don't know what you are looking for actually, but the third link in this forum directs you to the most recognized custom rom in the market - LineageOS. Maybe this is something for you to try. Just make sure this is the correct ROM for your device and read the instructions carefully before proceeding.
And yea, the site could have changed since 6 years ago... I'm here only for a 3,5

I thought there was a download page where every device was listed. I don't want to read about ROMS in the forum. I am looking for a list of ROMS for Download. I don't want to search through countless posts about all kinds of stuff. WHERE IS THE DOWNLOAD PAGE? Looks like the hardest thing about installing a custom ROM is actually finding it.

I think you have had some expectations, and XDA doesn't work like that (at least not now). For each device there is a separate forum, and under that forum you can find threads with ROMs, kernels, recoveries and other stuff. In each thread usually you can find download links along with the instructions on how to proceed with installation. So if you are really interested with installing custom ROM, you have to make the effort of searching and reading. There is no easy way, otherwise you can screw your device for good. Please take this into consideration

Hi all! i wanted to start a FAQ thread because im sick of seeing/reading threads like "what is best custom ROM? please help", "need OC help, please help!" and other very useless threads. i come acrcoss these kind of threads almost every day :/ thats why i want to make this thread to minimize the amount of useless threads
red = question color
green = answer color
@please make this thread sticky so it will always remain at the top
FAQ
1.) what ROM is best/stable/battery saver/fastest?
this is the MOST asked question of all time and short answer is: test every available ROM! everybody has their opinion and it is just stupid to make this kind of thread because most likely it is going to end up like this:
user24 says: InDroid is the best use that!
user25 says: lestatious is the best use that!
user26 says: no use kyrillos, its the best!
so DONT post threads like that!
2.) best filesystems to use?
most of the people say its:
stl6 ext4
stl7 ext4
stl8 ext2
3.) what is the best stock ROM?
almost everybody recommends JPM
4.) is there going to be official 2.3?
most likely NO!
5.) im from another SG forum and id like to flash SG3 ROM, can i do it? we have very similar specs
you can do it but it wont work!
6.) OMG, help me, kies wont recognize my phone and i cant revert back to official firmware!
Kies wont recognize your phone if its rooted, if you have flashed a custom ROM or if you have flashed unofficial samsung ROM!, so you need to find out what is the official firmware in your country then find that firmware on www.samfirmware.com and flash it via odin
7.) is it dangerous to flash a custom ROM?
Most likely no but remember you are flashing on your own and the risks are still there no matter what
8.) How to root android 2.2 FROYO?
use super1clickRoot, z4root wont work on 2.2!
9.) how do i know if my phone is hard bricked?
you CANT enter recovery, download (using 3 button (power+vol down+home button)) or boot the phone
10.) my phone CAN enter download mode but cant boot, is it soft brick?
yes it is! just flash another ROM and everything should be ok
ill add more FAQ´s later but now i got other things to do oh and also you can suggest different kind of questions and answers you want me to add
also tell me what you think of this thread
ill add links here
- www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i5800.htm for official and un official firmwares
- http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i5800_galaxy_3-3395.php full SG3 specs

4.) is there going to be official 2.3?
most likely NO!
samsung customer service germany told me yes lol
but is still to be confirmed by other users ^^
anyway I don't understand why people get so mad because of such threads, if you hate them, just ignore them. no one forces you to read or even answer
I don't understand why people can't just use the search option as well. as they would geht their answer faster.
but hey, you're on the internet, not everyone's as smart as you. there are stupid users everywhere

when i get confirmation that we will have 2.3 i will update it but now its most likely a no also im not mad im just stunned because there are mny threads like this and that but nobody even cares to search for them and then they spam the forum... this SHOULD decrease haree's job on this forum, he has many, many other forums that he is in charge and with this thread i hope that his job will become easier and the forums will be cleaner
and because there are some lazy guys who cant/wont use the search tool this will most likely answer thse answers
The search tool is useless, if you get even a work wrong you have to wait 30secs and search again which is kinda pretty lame. So this thread is useful, thanks jazux.

not all new roms last long you know..
I'm sure after the rom tutorial was out many new roms came up but lasted for less time..(no specific names please!)
So it wont matter much..
But if a new rom was really awesome and worth the entry in the poll haree could add a option(maybe) or could restart the poll with new option(definitely, this can be done by a mod)
Edit: Nice, jazux you looked for 29! Roms.

take it easy, u might hurt ur self
ok its not quite in the right place, but no need to bite his head off.
anyway, in answer to your question, the way i removed the branding from my vodafone DS was this
http://revolutionary.io/ download this tool and follow its instructions, this will root your phone and give you a recovery tool that will allow you to flash a new ROM onto your phone.
With the phone rooted, you will be able to back up your data using an app from the market. Titanium Backup is the usual favorite.
EDIT : may be wrong about it providing root, I personally skipped the backup step as I had no data to lose, but if that is the case there are guides in the forums for obtaining root access
next look through this forum to find a ROM that suits your needs, from the sound of things you want the stock one, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230029 should suit you.
download the zip file and transfer it to your SD card.
next you need to reboot into your recovery mode by turning the phone off, then hold the vol down button and power button together and selecting recovery from the menu
finally use the volume buttons to select install zip from SD card, and point it at your downloaded rom. it may take a few mins so allow it to finish then select reboot phone.
again this first boot may take a little time, but once its up you should have a debranded ROM as if you had just bought the phone new.
Add the details for your google account and redownload your backup app so you can restore your data and you are good to go
thank you very much for your help,
I shall give it a try,
by the way, will be able to install official updates on it, or will I have to stick with custom ROMs for ever?
thanks again

Nooo, not forever. Just until you get a new device
But seriously: Custom roms don't work with official updates. The trick is that most of the custom rom developers provide their own flashable updates for their roms. The difference is in the way you perform the update. There are even fairly developed custom roms, like MIUI, which have their own over-the-air updates (actually more often than official updates are coming.)
EDIT: In fact, you can switch back to a stock rom anytime and get the official updates back.

Once unlocked, i.e. rooted, you can use titanium backup or a root file explorer to uninstall the apps you don't need from the rom you are running atm.

Well, again: read around the forum a little, please. There is a sticky thread right on the top of the development section, called ROMS/RECOVERY/ROOT etc. It's a must read for newcomers. Very useful thread. There you find a link to a collection of stock roms. These are distributed as .exe files, so you can run them in windows and a simple-to-use installer will pop up and help you with pushing the stock rom to your phone. It is advisable that you double check that you are flashing the rom you really want. Someone here will help you to choose the right one.
EDIT: By the way in the general section (where we are now with this thread) there is also a very useful sticky. It's called Guide for Newcomers to Android. Seriously, it's a good read, given that you own an Android phone...

Thanks chris5s, Ill definitely give it a shot.
This tool would help to get rid of the annoying Orange splash screen, and other useless apps could be removed as stated before.
Of course, best way is to install generic HTC European rom or custom rom of your choice.
Aforementioned tool would also help install roms, radios, etc, of your choice.
Good luck
Peace
Edit: sorry, Android flasher won't help install roms, but will help with installing custom recovery - Ext4 or Clockwork Mod - essential in s-off/rooted flashing.

If your phone model isn't listed as an option, don't install that ROM. It will be the end of your phone. If you visit the Skyrocket Q&A forum and the dev forum for, well, any phone, there are loads of tutorials on how to flash safely. Please read them first and follow their instructions, along with the ROM instructions, or brick.
Unless you want to prove how 1337 you are. Then, by all means, install the ROM and prove us wrong.

Yea definitely seems like a better idea to follow the instructions for the specif ROM. Any recommendations on one? not looking for anything fancy just wanna get rid of the stock one and because for some reason my phone is currently on version 2.3.5 and i am not being able to install anything from the marketplace. so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Read the Skyrocket dev forum and decide for yourself. Recommending a ROM would be an insult to all the other devs who've put time, effort and sometimes money into designing their own.
im sorry i am just going nuts now with all the stuff ive been reading and i think i gotta take some steps back to make sure i got everything right.
i have clockworkmod 5. something and from what i was able to read i need the to update to the most resent version. So i found a copy of 6.0.4.5 but i am unsure on how to update it. Tried to put it in my sd and run it by booting into clockwormod recovery and installing the zip. it says it installed successfully but it is still in version 5.
Any help with the would be much appreciated

Hey Ya'll
Happy New Year.
I have new old phone Samsung Note 2.
I'm going to be using this phone but have concerns about security and speed .
I also want to root my phone so I can remove the bloatware and, possibly, get my processor clocked a bit faster (activating the reduntant cores to would be great).
This is what I've learned from searching here:
1) KIngRoot || Root King - oneclick apps from the play store
2) custom rom - like cynagenmod.
- i'll be able to use FireFox the way I do on my Linux machine, but other than that I'm just a run of the mill iPhone user.
What kind of advice do you guys have for me? I look forward to learning tx:fingers-crossed:
For the people viewing but not posting.
Here's something I found using a DuckDuckGo (XDA search just came up with ads) from the XDA forums.
Galaxy Note 2 Rooting.
Flashing Custom Roms.
After days of trying to figure this out I'm just more confused.
Everytime I use the XDA search bar I get ADS. Thanks XDA.
The two links I posted to help here have good descriptions but the links end up going nowhere eventually.
From what I've gathered (on my own) I need to:
1) Root using Odin (found it somewhere else)
2 ) Download a "Custom Recovery" CWM/TWRP (can't find a good download for the dam thing)
3) Download Gapps (again, can't find a good Download for the dam thing)
4) Download a Custom ROM for my phone (and again, can't find a download)
I don't understand. Everyone Raves about XDA but theres only text instructions. Everyone says how there are great developers here and how this is a gret forum but I've yet to find anything here and none of the people who viewed this post even replied....
If your reading this and are trying to Root your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I suggest you look somewhere else.
I don't think XDA is worth any of the hype people give it and we're just wasting our time here.
Hey, there.
First of all, you are new here and don't know how the XDA forums work, so be patient and don't jump to conclusions. Once you understand the forum's layout, you will see why everyone raves about XDA.
You first need to find your phone's subforum using search, and look there. It will have everything from general questions, rooting guides, to custom kernels, custom Roms, etc.
For your case, it's here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2
Easiest way to root your phone is using Kingroot.
Download apk here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=22115
The custom ROM flashing guide you linked is general guide to flash any ROM and hence doesn't provide links. You need to find Rom you would like to flash(install) in the sub-forum and flash using that method.
Hit thanks if it helped. PM (private message) me if you need help.
I'm kind of new to this, but I saw a video of ONE UI running on the OnePlus 6 and 6t, but it day that they port that Rom, will I be able to install that Rom on the OnePlus 7 Pro for example? Or install a Android Q beta Rom via TWRP without port/support? Or does it has to be ported or compatible with the device?
Theoretically you should be able to flash A/B GSIs (note that the OnePlus 6 uses A only GSIs! There's a difference! Grab the AB GSIs!). Don't expect things to work properly. It might boot. It might not.

ROMs are built for a specific device and can be ported and maintained. There are a few that you need to flash in TWRP as per their specific instructions and a few that you can flash in magisk. You need to research and all the information you need is usually on XDA with each ROM in the development section. If it's not there, it probably doesn't exist or is done by a Dev who does not associate with XDA. Make sure you are familiar with nandroid backup and restore, root, TWRP and all the flashing methods associated with each. The instructions are all there and Google is your friend. Most issues you may experience are already brought forth and that's what the search function is for, but if you follow the instructions, you shouldnt have any issues.
