[Q] 10.6.1.14.4 rooted but not unlocked - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi,
i have a tf700 with 10.6.1.14.4 and root via motochopper.
I want to install now CleanROM but therefore have to unlock the bootloader?
As far what i found out:
- The unlock tool from asus does not work with 10.6.1.14.4
- nvflash does not work with 10.6.1.14.4
All instructions i found so far are talking about unlocking to gain root. But i have root and i just want to unlock the table.
Please help...

Hi, you still can use the unlock tool even if you are already on JB.
I did it too some days ago, following this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252563
Note that you will lose your warranty unlocking the tablet.
About NVFlash, as far as i know can't be used with our bootloaders.
Sorry for bad english. Hope this help you a bit

The asus unlock tool won't work for me. Any ideas?

Keep trying. It often takes quite a few times for the unlock tool to work.

How to downgrade tf300t from jelly bean to ics?

Since the last update I'm having serious issues with my tablet and I'm assuming that they are related to the Update. The major problem is with the touchscreen that seems to be touched in a specific area (around 1 inch from bottom , portrait or landscape mode, doesn't matter)... and make nearly impossible to work with the tablet...

Thoses guides are for people that have'nt installed the OTA JB update, the OP should make that clear in his guide. You cannot downgade from JB to ICS, this is a known fact. The bootloader changes when you update to JB and you cannot go back to the ICS bootloader.

So correct me if I'm right,I'm on stock OTA JB, since I can't go back to ICS to root/flash ROM's,what can I actually do now, unlock the bootloader ,if so why for, root, but what prerequisites do I take?
I'm new to the tab world so be gentle,

The Asus unlock tool works with the JB bootloader so you will be able to flash a new recovery and some JB rom's, only one is avaible at the moment and it's Hydro.

So do I unlock the bootloader first, then follow the instructions in the OP for that ROM?

Download and run the unlock tool, then you need to flash a custom recovery with your computer. Then you can follow the HOWTO to flash HYDRO.

This is how to root a TF300 running JB, does it work?

Just come across this note as I have been looking for way to root my tf300, which is running JB and locked: http://www.android.gs/root-transformer-tf300t-jelly-bean-rom/
One thing I am not sure is ... the method presented in the article might assume the unit is unlocked. However, there is no clarification on that, nor do I see follow up questions.
For unlocked only
If you need a recovery
There is no alternative (unlock bootloader)
I hope to see a way for root jb without unlocking

Question about Unlocking on Jelly Bean

I want to unlock my Infinity but when I was going to download the unlock tool from the Asus website I read that it only works for ICS .. I already did the OTA for jelly bean and still want to unlock. So my question is will the unlock tool work for jelly bean?

Yes, it has been confirmed to work on Jelly Bean by multiple users. It will work fine.

I used the unlock app on JB and it supposedly worked. The message "your device is now unlocked" or something similar was displayed.
I still have some questions:
1) How can I be sure my device is unlocked?
2) Is all the fuss about the .30 upgrade concerns nvflash only and not unlocking in general?
3) Would I be able to use custom ROMs in the future? Is there specific tools I will need to achieve that?
P.S. I use GNU/Linux on the desktop. I have both the SDK and the NDK installed. I already use adb sometimes and I know my way around CLI environments. I'm just new to Android and all the vendor lock-ins.

The good news is YES!
I did it yesterday and now I am unlocked, rooted using the method posted by hiemashu (how to root JB), updated recovery to TWRP2.2.2.2 64bit version, flashed with ULE 1.1 ROM and since updated to the newest TWRP 2.2.2.3.
The only thing to make sure of is that you use a USB port connected directly to the Motherboard. I tried one via a multi-card reader and while I was able to fastboot reboot I could not flash until I changed port.
Go for it! You won't regret it! Anyway, it's not really yours 'til you void the warranty!!!
Cheers,
Eric

How about the USB port on the keyboard / mobile dock? Or are you suggesting we'd need an OTG adapter directly into the TF700T tablet itself?
When i run the unlock tool, I get the message "the device model is not supported". Is there a work-around for this?

No, it didn't. Thanks for you reply but I discovered what was wrong: I followed a link within this or another thread to ASUS's unlock tool for the TF201. When I realized this, i simply downloaded the device-appropriate drive and am now unlocked.
Yes unlocked my infinity on jellybean 4.1.1
I unlocked via official asus unlocking tool and now i want to root it but i dont know how to do it. I never rooted bcoz its my first android tablet so can anybody help me with basics of how to root my infinity running jellybean 4.1.1.

Unlocking/Rooting with current JB firmware?

Is there a way to Unlock or Root the TF700 with the current JB firmware? My TF700 came stock with JB, and it seems like Asus took down the links to the ICS firmware on their support site.
As others have said in various threads, you can be on JB and unlock no problem. It says ICS only but Asus are just lazy and haven't updated their site. I unlocked on JB and everything is fine.

Correct. I just did it last night and everything worked fine. Unlocked and rooted on latest 4.1.1 JB!

New TF700 owner here.
Curious to getting root w/o unlocking it? I looked at some other threads and only talk about keeping root while upgrading etc.
So far loving this tablet, the dock makes it 100x more useful when you need it.

As far as I know, the only way to root it without unlocking the bootloader is if you have ICS and just use the debugfs command program, as far as rooting with JB I know you have to have the bootloader unlocked. In all honesty I don't mind taking the risk of unlocking my bootloader because I have Geek Squad Protection on my tablet and can just get a new one for free.

You should use TWRP 2.3.1 instead of 2.2.2.3, which he reccommends, though. They have fixed the issues he talks about.

I'm wanting to take the plunge myself - but do you have to use the Asus unlocker tool or is there a way around that? I'm too late to get SquareTrade I think. Too late, and too poor LOL. I just have that nagging feeling that as soon as I do the thing will bork on me.
Edit: Sorry...I just read that you can't unlock without the ASUS tool, and it's a damn shame. I want so bad to rant right now but I won't.
I think I'm still going to unlock though.
The only way I could find to root was to install CWM recovery first, and then install the CWM SuperUser app. I replaced CWM with TWRP when all was said and done. Both are now touch interfaces making things so much less laborious. The links for doing so are all around the web and these forums. I had my frustrations but in the end it was easier than I thought it would be. I'm happy I took the plunge. I believe a lot of my frustrations were from ASUS' horrible implementation of Android. My benchmarks are now 6300+ on Quadrant with 2D GPU rendering on. I know benchmarks aren't everything but, you won't be sorry if you're giving up some kind of warranty to get the device you paid premium dollar for.

[Q] Returning TF700 for Warranty Repair

I want to root my ASUS Transformer Prime TF700, but I heard that you have to unlock the bootloader, etc. Coming from Samsung Galaxy SII, I have never had to unlock the bootloader. Does unlocking the bootloader void the warranty? And if I want to return it, I know I have to unroot it, but do I have to relock the bootloader, or is Best Buy going to ignore it?

You can root without unlocking.
Unlocking voids the Asus warranty.
Best Buy would most likely not even check the tablet if returned.
Which Android version is your tablet on right now?

Without the unlocked bootloader, you cannot root JB directly. That may have been what you heard. However, you can get JB rooted indirectly.
The process is pretty simple, if time consuming. basically, you need to downgrade to the last ICS build, root, 'protect' root using Voodoo OTA rootkeeper, then update to JB and finally restore root using the same rootkeeper app.
There is a complete guide here in the forums, Let me find it and I'll link it.
