I want to unlock my Infinity but when I was going to download the unlock tool from the Asus website I read that it only works for ICS .. I already did the OTA for jelly bean and still want to unlock. So my question is will the unlock tool work for jelly bean?

Yes, it has been confirmed to work on Jelly Bean by multiple users. It will work fine.

I used the unlock app on JB and it supposedly worked. The message "your device is now unlocked" or something similar was displayed.
I still have some questions:
1) How can I be sure my device is unlocked?
2) Is all the fuss about the .30 upgrade concerns nvflash only and not unlocking in general?
3) Would I be able to use custom ROMs in the future? Is there specific tools I will need to achieve that?
P.S. I use GNU/Linux on the desktop. I have both the SDK and the NDK installed. I already use adb sometimes and I know my way around CLI environments. I'm just new to Android and all the vendor lock-ins.

The good news is YES!
I did it yesterday and now I am unlocked, rooted using the method posted by hiemashu (how to root JB), updated recovery to TWRP2.2.2.2 64bit version, flashed with ULE 1.1 ROM and since updated to the newest TWRP 2.2.2.3.
The only thing to make sure of is that you use a USB port connected directly to the Motherboard. I tried one via a multi-card reader and while I was able to fastboot reboot I could not flash until I changed port.
Go for it! You won't regret it! Anyway, it's not really yours 'til you void the warranty!!!
Cheers,
Eric

How about the USB port on the keyboard / mobile dock? Or are you suggesting we'd need an OTG adapter directly into the TF700T tablet itself?
When i run the unlock tool, I get the message "the device model is not supported". Is there a work-around for this?

No, it didn't. Thanks for you reply but I discovered what was wrong: I followed a link within this or another thread to ASUS's unlock tool for the TF201. When I realized this, i simply downloaded the device-appropriate drive and am now unlocked.
Yes unlocked my infinity on jellybean 4.1.1
I unlocked via official asus unlocking tool and now i want to root it but i dont know how to do it. I never rooted bcoz its my first android tablet so can anybody help me with basics of how to root my infinity running jellybean 4.1.1.

Since the last update I'm having serious issues with my tablet and I'm assuming that they are related to the Update. The major problem is with the touchscreen that seems to be touched in a specific area (around 1 inch from bottom , portrait or landscape mode, doesn't matter)... and make nearly impossible to work with the tablet...

Thoses guides are for people that have'nt installed the OTA JB update, the OP should make that clear in his guide. You cannot downgade from JB to ICS, this is a known fact. The bootloader changes when you update to JB and you cannot go back to the ICS bootloader.

So correct me if I'm right,I'm on stock OTA JB, since I can't go back to ICS to root/flash ROM's,what can I actually do now, unlock the bootloader ,if so why for, root, but what prerequisites do I take?
I'm new to the tab world so be gentle,

The Asus unlock tool works with the JB bootloader so you will be able to flash a new recovery and some JB rom's, only one is avaible at the moment and it's Hydro.

Download and run the unlock tool, then you need to flash a custom recovery with your computer. Then you can follow the HOWTO to flash HYDRO.

Just come across this note as I have been looking for way to root my tf300, which is running JB and locked: http://www.android.gs/root-transformer-tf300t-jelly-bean-rom/
One thing I am not sure is ... the method presented in the article might assume the unit is unlocked. However, there is no clarification on that, nor do I see follow up questions.
For unlocked only
If you need a recovery
There is no alternative (unlock bootloader)
I hope to see a way for root jb without unlocking

Anoyone wjho knows anything about JB og a Root for this device?
Iwould be happy the day i can get a custom firmware on it, sad that i dont know how to make this things on my own....
i think theres no way to root right now because the tf700kl has another soc as the tf700t and so the recovery from tf700t doesnt work.
and the recovery is the only way to root a asus device with jb on it.
so someone must make a recovery optimized for the tf700kl

There is still no bootloader unlocker for it either. I haven't dared to try the one for TF700T ICS. So even it there was a recovery, we might be screwed. The TF700KL is on ICS 4.0.4 atm btw. And the method what worked for TF700T 4.0.3 does not work it seems (I tried...).

Hi
I am currently on stock (10.4.4.18), locked infinity, but I want to install custom rom on it? So can anyone tell me how to do it? Do I have to use the ice cream sandwich methode to unlock it?
Thanks in advance for all answers.

- Download the unlock tool from Asus and run it
- accept that this will void your warranty and unlocking is permanent
- install a custom recovery via fastboot
- install a custom ROM
There are excellent guides explaining the detailed steps in the sticky posts, read them.
Edit: start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1834521

It's pretty simple. Since you already on JB .18(latest version). Just follow the instruction here, but skip section 1 (because you already on JB) and start with section 2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32825557
If you already have root, there is even simpler instruction to follow, let me know.

Which ROM were you considering?
If I may ask...
I was considering CleanROM, because of all the lag I'm having.

I would very very highly recommend the latest version of CleanROM.
Almost sure there will be no disappointment.

The unlock tool says only ICS, and I used it, but it's just saying there has occured an unknown error, so I'm unable to unlock my tablet.
Edit: I got following message "An unknown error occurs, which may be a network connection issue. Please wait and try again later."

The ICS unlock tool is legit for JB as well. The issue you seeing is Asus server not working. Keep trying and you are going to get it....
I'm on the brink of unlocking the bootloader on my TF300T (shipped with ICS; got it December 2012), but wanted to verify a couple things before taking the plunge.
I understand that OTA updates from Asus will no longer work. I also see that Asus has all their firmware updates available for direct download from their website - aside from losing root, are there any reasons why I can't use those manual updaters?
I read the "don't install CM10 yet on the 4.2 bootloader" sticky, so I'm not even going to try CM10 yet (although I saw an unofficial CM10.1 is compatible). Once it's compatible, is it worth flashing? I use CM on my phone (HTC Evo 4G) because I don't like Sense (and would have been stuck with Gingerbread!), but on the TF300T, Asus's ROM is generally pretty decent, so what is the advantage (if any)?
Right now, all I want to do is:
Unlock the bootloader using the official Asus APK
Install recovery using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
Root the stock ROM using the same thread
I've looked through the warning threads and most recent stuff here on XDA. Is there anything else I need to worry about, or does the above-referenced thread have me covered?
Anyone? I just want to make CERTAIN I'm covered before I take the plunge...

Well you can root without unlocking if that's all you want to do. You'll get much more benefit unlocking and flashing a custom ROM though.
That guide has it all covered.
I thought with JB and the 4.2 bootloader, you had to unlock to root? Is that not true?
Everything I've seen about rooting indicates that you have to be running ICS to root; JB blocks the previous exploit that was used for rooting.

Is there a particular ROM that's better than the stock JB? I especially like the built-in performance widgets in the notification bar in Asus's ROM. That being said, I could do without the crapware...
