For me, the biggest negative is that the phone is not fast enough comparing to S3. Although, it might be touch wiz problem than hardware, because Nexus 10 feels much fluid and smooth.
Basically, I did expect a better performance.

Is a fault from Samsung that an external app (Chrome) uses a lot of RAM? NO.

Maybe because Chrome doesn't use a fixed MB, it uses a % of RAM. More ram more %.

it has a lot of features and a 1080p screen (yes the 1080 has more than twice the pixels of 720 that it needs to use memory for the GPU), it needs to use up some extra ram to run smoothly. imagine how slow it would be if it used 550mb and kept swapping it out
furthermore ive got a droid 3 with 512mb of ram... even with a custom rom with zero bloat this thing had like 50-100mb left to run apps... imagine how disappointed i am with it -_-
(im on verizon and im awaiting my pre-order of course)

this isnt a legit complaint because its the fastest phone in the world. when i build a computer i expect some of the parts to sometimes run warm. in fact, my 7970 runs around 60 celsius under full load. the latest greatest technology is expected to get a little warm lol...
besides who ISNT going to use this thing as a hand warmer during the winter? lol

I too experience phone restarts when entering the camera app. Battery drains on average 10% every hour ( or more ) on medium use. Reached 50C degrees battery temp when browsing app, it got very uncomfortable to hold in the hand.

Yeap, I disabled all of them.
Still, when routinely switching between camera -> gallery -> email -> back to camera the transition between windows is very slow. And it's not because of animation, but probably because the phone needs to restore the state of a next app and it takes ages.
The phone is ok, but I expected more from 2013's hardware.

My phone never restarted itself, camera has crashed 2 times in 3 weeks, I don't have a problem with overheating, even if I use it all day (batterry draining is normal for a quadcore with 1080 screen... it lasts high use about 5-6 hours )

Pull my hair out!!!!

So,I'm so freaking tired of charging my phone 3 times a day (HTC inspire) so I flash different roms, without sense to try and save battery, and I get maybe one extra hour!! So it makes me want a different phone, and I try to think of a different OS so I install miui just to see if I can stand not having full blown android, and I can't. So I'm stuck at a crossroad, with no money to just buy another phone. What would you do? No one will trade me an atrix lol.

Try a low voltage kernal w/ smartass governor maybe.
Try a battery calibration app and LBE security app, lower display brightness. Limit the number of widgets and start up programs.

This has been proven to be a placebo affect. I have tested it for almost 3 days now and it doesn't really help at all. Also someone mentioned in that forum it doesn't work properly with snapdragon processors because the rndg is different than others. If it does help at all I think it would help more for the lag that comes from not rebooting for a long period of time.

I have been using it with unsense and it hasn't really improved anything. No difference in performance without it either. Like I said it's a placebo caused by the fact that the tweak actually wakes your processor repeatedly which is why your phone seems to react better. You can use it if you like but it is really just a battery drainer. You can get the same performance increase by setting your governor on performance.

I ran it on nu sense and it drained my battery and noticed no improvement in speed. You see an increase because you want to see an increase. Its like throttle body spacers people puts on their cars. Suppose to improve performance and increase fuel mileage. They do no such thing but make a nice paper weight. People who had them swear they could feel an increase. One guy put his truck on a dyno and tested with it on and with it off. His results was with it on he lost a few hp. This is why butt dynos are so inaccurate because we make our selves believe we can see and feel a difference. When in fact there isn't.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post. It cause a wake lock on the processor making it wake repeatedly which is the likely reason that anyone notices anything. It in no way shape or form affects entropy which was the original intent of the app. Google has also stated that the very issue this is supposed to fix was actually fixed with the release of ICS. Try it on a gb rom and see if it actually works. Also, after you run it for a few days disable it and see if there is a decrease in performance. I've ran it for about three days and there is no difference without it running.

idea to deal with overheating and lagg of i9500

so i have been thinking about an idea that will help us get rid of both
and i have come up with this since the big little arch. isnot working right (probably not working at all )
we need a kernel to stop the small quad core cpu totaly
and to under clock the main cpu to 1.2 ghz
this way we get rid of over heating and lag
and all we will sacrifice is small performance (lol will be on par with the i9505 maybe )
so any ideas ?

My i9500 rarely heats up, much better after the mdk update
On the ME1 firmware, there is heat but like any other phone and only under heavy usage.
Also no lag, only widgets redraw after exiting some apps (Demanding games and the camera).
I don't have overheating issue a little bit of lag but it's random. i'm on MDK btw.
After the mdk update heating reduced a bit..

media scanner should scan media files then it get cached and paused until copying some files or rebooting or mounting SD , when it become crazy and running all the time thats mean u have some corrupted files . ur mission is find them and delete them
so after the update the heating is the same as the s3 for example :?
if so some one post the temperature of ur phone after web browsing after 10 mins for example

If you want to completely stop A15 cores then underclock (with any application ) CPU to 600mhz.
When people say they are experiencing lag, when are you seeing the lag happen? I've not really seen any excessive lagging apart from the slight glitch but no different from any other android device I've used.

i think u missed it. media scanner issue is there on almost all mobiles running android 4.1+ ,it repeatedly scans for files despite the scan being finished earlier and thus eats up cpu cycles/draining battery. no official fix from google yet.
with the raw power of cpu in s4 it heats up pretty fast than any other mobiles.

Playing games is usually the culprit, but my nexus sometimes gets hot even after web browsing... How hot does your Nexus 5 get??
I can't say mine gets hot... I use Faux Kernel with the recommended settings and also undervolt my phone. You can also fiddle (lower) with the max frequencies for the CPU and GPU to your liking. You'll often find that you have more than enough power to handle games and can reduce the frequencies quite a bit.

I dont want to mess around with Kernels and Root just yet.. Once the big ROM's start to pick up speed and become stable thats an option... Hoping Google brings out a software update to reduce the heat, and do something about the Camera, I honestly think if this had a Camera app which was optimised for the Camera it would be better than the S4 and the likes, when you put the S4 on a fully stock rom, the pictures are horrible, on the Nexus 5 they're just average... If it had the S4 Camera App who knows what it would be like!

[Q] RAM Usage and Battery Life on Kitkat ROMs

How is the Nexus S performing as regards RAM usage and battery life on the handful of unofficial Kitkat ROMs doing the rounds? Kitkat is built to perform better on devices with 512MB RAM than Jellybean. Wondering if that translates into actual differences in performance and battery life, even on the as-yet-unstable ROMs.

Battery life is pretty close to most jelly beans, it has better ram availability, but is smooth like 4.1 only a bit faster... Some apps still have issues due to the newness of 4.4, but mainly in ART... Most roms are pretty stable for daily use...

In that case, much better than what you were getting.. Lol... I get around 4hrs screen time with 12-16hrs moderate usage..

Wow, how do you get so much screen time?
Pixie dust... Lol. I don't have 3g on unless I'm using it, location off unless needed, I keep WiFi off when the phone sleeps, I don't auto sync, screen brightness is usually on lowest settings, I set app permissions to not wake my device, greenify, and use a script package with nodded build.prop...

I'll try that and see how long my battery lasts me. Although then I don't know what exactly I'll be doing with the phone at all. Usually I have 2G always on, switching to 3G when I need it, don't use WiFi. Auto-sync is mostly off, brightness lowest indoors, and a few apps greenified. That gives me 2 hours max of screen on time over moderate use for say 8-9 hours.
