Yes, it’s done. Vaibhavknockout is proud to present root and CWM recovery for Funbook infinity. In case of a question or clarification, feel free to ask me on this thread.
Credits: Goes to Bin4ry for his awesome “Universal ICS and JB rooting kit” and exploit. You are awesome Bin4ry. Please donate, if possible, to Bin4ry for his contribution to android development. Press thanks or donate if this helped you.
Discalimer: By following this tutorial and by downloading the files mentioned in this tutorial, you agree that you are doing so at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage whatsoever to your funbook infinity. This tutorial assumes that the user is working on windows platform and has the tablet and USB cable available.
Note: For those who are unaware of rooting and CWM recovery and its uses, kindly read this Namaste guide for Xperia Arc before proceeding.
A) Preparing funbook infinity and windows to communicate:
1. On your infinity tablet, go to settings-->Developers options and tap on USB debugging to check (tick) the USB debugging on.
2. Connect the funbook infinity with your windows computer via USB cable.
3. You probably already have adb (android debug bridge) drivers installed which you can confirm if your computer detects the tablet and gives you the option to safely remove the tablet (refer to screenshot 1).
4. If it is the first time that you have connected your tablet to your computer, then allow windows to automatically install the drivers for you, after which you will see safely remove options (screenshot 1).
5. Change the connectivity option from MTP to mass storage in settings-->storage-->options-->USB computer connection
B) Rooting funbook infinity:
1. Download ‘Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15.7z’ file from attachments given below.
2. Unzip the contents of the file to a folder and rename the folder to ‘rooting kit’.
3. Go to the rooting toolkit folder and open ‘RunMe.bat’ by double clicking the file (screenshot 2).
4. In the cmd window, type ‘1’ (without quotes, for selecting normal) and press enter (screenshot 3).
5. Wait till the program asks you to connect your tablet (screenshot 4). Now connect the tablet to the computer via USB cable.
6. Wait till the program asks you to go to the tablet (screenshot test) and tap “Restore my data” (pic 1).
7. Allow the rooting toolkit program to install root files on your tablet (screenshot test 2). It might restart the tablet once or twice which is normal.
8. Once the program is done, it will give you a success message and will ask you to press enter (screenshot 5). Press enter and it will close the cmd window.
9. Restart your funbook infinity once again and enjoy your rooted tablet.
10. Optional – To check the root status of your tablet, install ‘root checker’ on your tablet from play store. It should tell you that your tab is rooted now (Pic2).
C) Installing CWM recovery on funbook infinity:
1. Download ‘Novotools_v1.0.apk’ and ‘recovery.img’ files from attachments given below.
2. Install a file manager from play store. You can use free program ‘ES file explorer’ and enable root explorer feature from settings. I personally use ‘root explorer from speed software’.
3. Place ‘Novotools_v1.0.apk’ and ‘recovery.img’ in root of your SD card. So the path to these two files should now be - /SDcard/Novotools_v1.0.apk and /SDcard/recovery.img (screenshot 7).
4. Open and install Novotools using file manager application (Pic3).
5. Open Novotools app and tap on ‘shutdown’ to just check whether you have given root permissions to app. If everything is good, then your tablet should shut down (Pic4).
6. Switch on the tablet again, open novotools and tap on ‘flash recovery’. Wait till the message flash recovery disappears from screen (I recommend waiting a little longer ~ 2-3 mins).
7. Tap ‘enter recovery’ and allow the tablet to restart.
8. Your tablet should now enter into CWM recovery. There are three ways to enter this CWM recovery on funbook infinity. One is by Novotools (as done in step 7 above), second by going to settings-->backup and restore-->enter recovery mode, and third by switching off the tablet and holding both the home and power buttons together until recovery starts.
9. To navigate in the CWM recovery, just press home button again and again to scroll up and down, and press power button to select an option. You can’t go back while surfing in recovery, so choose your option wisely.
10. Enjoy!
D) Removing bloatware (crap apps) from funbook infinity:
1. This tutorial uses ‘root explorer’ app to select and move files, but ‘ES file explorer’ can also be used to follow these steps.
2. Open ‘root explorer’ and grant root permissions to ‘root explorer’.
3. Navigate to /system/app folder. Tap the settings button from navigation bar at the bottom of your screen (Pic5).
4. Tap on ‘Multi-select’ and start selecting following apps (bloatware for me, may not be for you) from the folder – apps.apk, elearning.apk, Email.apk, Email.odex, entertainment.apk, Exchange.apk, Exchange.odex, games.apk, GMS_Maps.apk, livetv.apk, LiveWallpapers.apk, LiveWallpapers.odex, mstore.apk, Needforspeedtherun.apk, PlusOne.apk, Talk.apk, Tetris.apk, WeatherWidget.apk.
5. Either delete these from ‘root explorer’ or move to SD card if you plan to use them later.
6. Enjoy a faster funbook infinity.
E) System dump:
Find the complete /system dump of micromax funbook infinity in my infinity dropbox. Enjoy!
F) To take complete CWM backup of stock ROM:
1. Go to CWM recovery as mentioned above.
2. Scroll doen to 'backup and restore' using home button.
3. Enter the menu by pressing power button.
4. Scroll to 'backup format' and enter.
5. Check whether the default format is .dup.
6. Now go to 'backup' and press enter.
7. Wait till the backup is complete, then press power and hold until tablet restarts.
8. Connect your tablet to your computer and COPY the complete folder 'clockworkmod' on your computer at a safe location.
G) To restore a previous backup:
1. If you want to restore, just copy this folder 'clockworkmod' back to SD card's root.
2. Go to recovery and enter 'restore', wait and restart as mentioned above.
Kindly press thanks button, it's better than saying thank you.

Nice, Looking forward to it.
hey, By the way, isnt everything (bit by bit) is identical to the original funbook.
so, i was guessing, if i could just flash cyanbook, it shouldnt give us any trouble, should it?

Yup, everything is same except the recovery is a bit modified to suit infinity. You can try and flash cyanbook (I myself was thinking of it) but do take a nandroid backup of your stock rom first.
And after installing, do tell us about the experience asap.

Cwm is hanging/freezing at md5 generation process vaibhav(2 times now)... Gonna try it one more time before I give up on this.
About the recovery part, didn't we just throw it out the Window(or phone memory) with your help. So it makes these two similar, right?

Yes, i had also tried to take a backup and it hangs at MD5 generation for me too. Don't worry about this error because recovery has already generated the backup files for your boot, cache, data, recovery and system. To check this, just connect your tablet to your computer and go to clockworkmod folder, these .img files should already there.
Now, to fix the MD5 error, i'll post a small tutorial in a day or two (you just need 'md5sum *img>nandroid.md5' command), so don't worry about that. And besides if anything goes wrong, you are always welcome to use my tablet's nandroid backup to restore (i am pretty sure you will find my tablet's setup much better than stock.......). I will be uploading my nandroid backup, system dump and also adb backup too in a day or two.
I am right now quite busy with my PhD thesis work until tomorrow, but surely will check back regularly to help you with the process. I suggest you to go ahead with flashing the cyanbook.
PS: About the recovery part, whatever floats your boat......

Hi,
Thanks a lot for the rooting guide for infinity.I have a question though.
My funbook infinity got locked as my younger sister tried the patern lock and exhausted the maximum attempts. Now it is locked and cannot be unlocked using google account as there is no internet access. Is there anyway around to solve this problem.Secondly are we able to use any usb dongle for internet after rooting or we need to flash a custom Rom to use dongle other than photon.
Thanks
THanks
Thanks bro ...
I was thinking is it neccessary to install recovery mode ?
Recovery Mode problem
Hi Vaibhav, I have a few doubts about the funbook infinity rooting
Please reply as soon as possible
1. Even though I have not rooted my tablet, I just checked for recovery mode. I went to recovery mode through settings--> backup and reset--> recovery mode. The tablet rebooted into recovery mode, but I could not scroll into the options using the reset(home) button. The only thing I could to is to use the power button. If I can't scroll then I cannot install CWM recovery after rooting. It this a problem with the tablet or is it that I should root first? You had mentioned in your post about installing the CWM recovery where you told to scroll down using home button, but it is not working. :'(
2. How can I install a custom rom from where I can overclock the tablet??
3. How to unroot the tablet??
Hoping to get a reply as soon as possible. Please reply for all the question..
Thank You
u r genius...

Other than the screen size and HSPA band, the rest of spec are pretty the same, so it's possible P760 method is applied on P769.
Unfortunately, the method I searched online is simply a fraud (I looked up the web code).
Just picked up 2 of these phones. My wife loves hers. I am hoping to begin liking mine. Rooting would help.
also waiting for some development for this phone, i have done themes before and know the basics of android but would still need help from a real dev.

Root procedure
Hi guys, I'm italian and I am one of the guys that rooted the phone with that procedure.
I'll try to help you out.
1) Download and install USB drivers and LG Suite
2) Make a full backup of your phone data with LG suite
3) Download bin4ry's script...you will find the link on the italian post you quoted
4) Plug the phone in, and make sure is set to "LG software mode" and it's in debug mode
5) Run the script, and make sure you DON'T run it as administrator, but run it as normal user, or it won't work (at least on Windows 8 64)
6) Select first "2" (Device type: Special), then 1 (root)
7) At some point, the phone will ask you to proceed with a recovery. Do it.
8) Follow the script's procedure until the end. Install super user app. Phone will reboot a few times...don't worry, it's normal You will also be asked to type something like "/data/etc"..do it!
9) Root should be effective by now. To check this out, try "Got root?" application
10) Restore your data with the backup you made at step 2.
Enjoy!
Let me know!

What's the problem? What happened?
I can't even get PC Suite to detect my phone. The drivers are installed and seem to be working. Device manager shows everything OK. I select "LG Software" from the USB connection type menu on my device. The PC Suite software says "The device inforation failed to load" after attempting to connect.

Many applications were gone and I even can't use "restore" (2-2).
--------------------------------------------------------
(update)
Good News!!!
My P769 is rooted! The key is "Lookout Security". Disable it and you're ready.
Here is the steps:
Make sure LG driver installed (the simplest way: install LG suite)
You MUST disable Lookout Security (menu-settings-applications). Choose disable
Make sure USB debugging enabled, and choose USB charge only.
Run Root and Restore->RunMe.bat->choose 1. Check the phone screen if you're asked to restore, choose it when you're prompted.
The phone will reboot. You have to look at the status of the terminal. If there's NO permission denied error, look at the phone. If it shows "Android is updating", the phone should be rooted.
Don't forget to grab SuperSU and BusyBox (and install the latter).

Heck yes!! I will try this with my other PC. I think this one is having driver conflicts because of all the devices I have rooted on it.
Do we need to do the backup and restore steps? Or is all data still intact?

It doesn't really matter because the phone is still new and I have not yet put in data until it rooted.

Hallo,
being new to this forum and also new to Android devices, please feel free to move my post into the correct section of the forum if I used the wrong one. The use of the search function is also not unknown to me, however I may not know all terms to be used (rookie) and english still is a foreign language for me.
Anyway, I have a serious problem with my brandnew Jiayu G4T phone and at least I need some help in sorting my thoughts and ideas after several days of browsing through the community.
What I know for sure:
Phone starts booting but stops on the third screen (1st: Jiayul ogo white, 2nd: Jiayu logo green falling in place, 3rd: Jiayu logo white fading).
I am able to boot into stock recovery and into factory mode (mostly chinese characters).
I have access to my phone by adb shell and can look into the directories.
The event occured after an overnight update with weird behavior of the phone (what happened is posted in the assumption section, it was still pretty early and I was clearly not fully awake.
I had the Xposed framework and XPrivacy installed and running. All other apps were pretty common.
In ADB my phone is listed as 0123456789ABCDEF (weird number)
What I do not know / Assumptions:
In /data I see plenty of files telling me that the data wipe from recovery was not successfull, the data belong to previously installed apps.
It seems that I was able to flash a new ROM, in system/app I do not see any of my previously installed apps. Superuser.apk is still present.
I also can access data however only after using su in shell.
I cannot delete the data using rm or wipe data being in [email protected] #, I have no idea why. Read only....
SP Flash tool told me that the flash of the new ROM was successful (red, pink, yellow progress bar followed by green circle). I think that is a good sign.
I also was able to apply ADB sideload for installing a new ROM and the phone told me I was successful. Not sure if this is true considering that my phone still is not booting.
After finding my phone in the morning mobile connections were both down, I think that an Android update was not successful and it might have happened that I restricted this very app with XPrivacy inadvertently.
The phone identifier seems to tell me that XPRivacy might still be active somewhere....
What I think about the next steps:
I think that getting rid of the old data might be the key for success, but I have no idea HOW....
Any thoughts from your side re highly appreciated,
Thomas

This is your solution right here (hopefully)
1) If you have not installed the drivers, download, unpack and install drivers http://uloz.to/xwWU1vKw/mtk6589-driver-zip.
2) Download and unpack Stock ROM http://www.ejiayu.com/en/News2-1-100.html.
3) Download and unpack FlashTools http://uloz.to/x6U5ZDKs/spflash3-1316-0-150-zip, and Click on Flash_tool.exe.
4) Click button "Scatter-loading" and select a the MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt in ROM.
5) Turn off your phone and remove the battery!
6) Press F9 (or hit Download button) and connect your phone into the computer via USB data cable.
7) The process will start and a red progress bar will appear after color purple, yellow. And green circles display. Finish. You can now safely disconnect your phone and turn it on.

I think you uninstalled some system apps. May be the systemUI.apk , it is the one which is responsible for the status bar.

You should have had a backup of your systemUI else at least a nandroid backup.
It seems you don't have a Custom recovery like cwm.
Also you don't have the systemUI backup i think.
Other choices as you don't have backups-
Search for your device's CWM try to flash it & then find a custom Rom for your device and flash it.
Another way is that ask some of the members with the same device as yours for the systemUI.apk and push it into the /system/app either with the help of adb or CWM through aroma filemanager.
Please do a little search on what i am suggesting and try to learn & do as i can't post all the methods step by step in a single post.

Any methods that i know couldn't help you AFAIK.
Coz there are ways complex for you to get into right now. (such as taking logcat through adb, finding & debugging the problem)
Better try to give it in service center, and don't say that you rooted the device.
They can easily flash a fresh firmware for your device.
All the best:thumbup:

1. The service center people will directly know that the device is rooted, coz as i said my device starts up and functions normally for sometime, and i can see root apps on the menu, superSU, RootUninstaller , Titanium Backup and all... and I would like to keep it as last option to go to service center, they would take too long to solve this...
2. Do you suggest Uninstalling these root apps first....?
3. Do you suggest Unrooting my device before i take it to the service center...? coz i had read that they wont know that it was rooted then..
4. How do you take logcat through android debugging , find & debug the problem-- What do i require to do this, i mean the required softwares n all....
5. i also have the com.android.acore unexpectedly closed error... i cannot access call functions as well....
6. What are the probable causes for this problem........ ? Thank you..!

Try a data/cache wipe first & check whether it gets solved..
1. Google it as 'download adt'.
2. It can be said as adb environment. It's a part of adt.

please reply karthik....!
hey i gave it to the service center,... they fixed right away thanks....!:good:
So there is a bargain chinese 4G phone called the 'InFocus M512'.
The problem with it is that it comes without Google Apps and also is not rooted (sometimes is). Also it does not have CWM Recovery.
So this quick tutorial shows you how to root, install CWM Recovery and install google apps on the M512.
I'm not responsible for any damage
Rooting:
Method 1
1.Go to settings>>Security>>Check Unknown Sources tap OK.
2.Download this file.
3.Install
4.Run and tap 'get root' or somthing like that.
5.Delete KingRoot and some chinese app, but DO NOT DELETE KingUser!
6.Done!
Method 2
Flash CWM Recovery using the 2nd method from this post. If you have rooted usign the first method use method 1 from that post.
Download UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip (i used 2.46)
Reboot into CWM.
Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip, press power button
Reboot now
GApps
1.Download this zip file
2.Reboot into CWM.
3.Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select the file, press power button
4.Reboot now.
How to delete KingUser (only if you have SuperSU and it is working)
Download ES File explorer, enable root explorer, go to /system/app and delete KingUser.
So this is how to get root, cwm and gapps on the m512.
First Method no good for me
I put the kingroot file in the adb tools folder and used the install command. It wasn't clear from the above whether the phone needed to be in recovery or some other mode so I tried a few times, in recovery mode and again just connected as an mtp device in the normal way. Either way the result was the same, it said "Invalid APK File: KingRoot.......".
I will have a go at the CWM thing next.
I am still on the 103A ROM that the phone came to me with - I have been trying, on and off, without success to update and then root it , for months.
When trying to flash an update ROM it tells me that the update package has unexpected contents and the there is an error in the update file and then says "Status 7". You can read all about my lack of success on this forum under the threads M512 started by Galaxy Why.
I'm trying, I really am....
Let me start by saying thanks for making the effort to post what you know and so to help people like me, however.
I tried to follow the method 2 (as I don't have root) from your other post (the one linked to above with the words "the 2nd method from this post" but got stuck.
Your instructions in normal my comments in italics.
Method 2: (No root)
1.Connect your phone via USB to your PC. OK
2.Enable MTP. OK
3.Enable USB Debugging. Settings>Developer Options> tick USB Debugging. OK
4.On your computer, 2 drives will appear: One of them is a CD-Rom which contains all drivers. OK
5.Click on that CD-Rom and it will install all drivers. It doesn't, or it may do, but what it definately does is asks me to put a disc in the drive and tries to do some kind of dir_all in windows explorer - I would post a screenshot here but this page only allows URL's- and I'm not sure how to go about that.. but I think I've managed to upload a screenshot....
After waiting for 5 minutes or so to see if something would happen as the green progress bar ground to a halt but the busy circle continued I hit the cancel button on the "please insert a disc dialogue" and then ploughed on anyway ....
6.Plug phone in again. Now this had me confused, I assume you mean unplug AND THEN plug the phone in again.
7.Download the .ZIP file and extract it somewhere. Which/what zip file do you mean exactly?? I couldn't get past this.
8.Click on _install_cwm_6.0.5.1.cmd
9.Your phone will ask you something, just tick "always allow from this computer" and hit OK.
10.Your phone will reboot into DL Mode, then it will reboot again.
11.Recovery is installed.
It's late and I'm tiring so sorry if missed something obvious. Any advice?

Looks like you don't have a adb driver
And... why do you want to root your phone? Installing CWM is not root required.
M512 comes with a unlocked bootloader, just boot into bootloader and you can flash anything you like.
I made a customized stock rom based on version 2280, bloatwares removed and Google Play framework included. (You can download the apps back from Play Store, if you needs those)
Now the phone has 2.09GB free spaces :victory:
If you were interested on it, I can upload it and give you a link.

I am interested in the custom rom you made for this phone. There's so little info on this model.

Flash this ROM by a "3rd party recovery" = CWM
I just wonder how many of you are still using this device?
