[Q] JB Update (OTA) fails / Kies update not supported ! - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
Incredible thing has happened, my GT 7.7 told me today: you have new firmware available to download !! First time in its freakin' life it told me that OTA update is available. What's more - it's JB - when almost everybody lost their hope to see it on 7.7.
My happiness didn't last long. OTA upgrade downloaded and after reboot - showed Android system update icon ... for 10 sec. Then it rebooted again. When system boot up - i found no change to 7.7 FW. When i tried to force another attempt to update - i got error message telling me "Update has failed... bla bla bla. Try using Kies".
OK - let it be. I started Kies. Installed update it prompted me and ... found message "Your device’s current firmware version is not supported via Kies". Great !!
My 7.7 is rooted (4.0.4), de-bloated (a lot of junk is gone (including stuff like Samsung Account and other Samsung bloatware).
Now question: If I flash new FW via Odin - will this flash clear my whole 7.7 or my existing apps and data will remain intact?
I think data/aps should "survive" Odin flashing (I don't remember what i did when i upgraded to ICS but i think I flashed with Odin and everything survived).
Another thing - do you think ti's better to wait for Kies upgrade that will support my 7.7 FW upgrade or heat up Odin and forceburn JB into it.
Thanks for advice (in advance).

kies wont upgrade root device with custom recovery... so i say go odin way...

Finally updated to JH7 via Kies

I finally update to JH7 - what a pain in the A$$!
I removed lag fix and flashed back to JH6 then tried the update - failed at 50%; set the date forward and it failed again. Did a master reset on the phone - wipes all data - this lets you redownload the update without waiting 24 hours - failed at 50% again, tried one more time, same result.
So i turned to Kies. Kies would not detect my phone until I turned on mass storage, then back to Kies. But then Kies wanted to update itself and nothing. So back to an old version of Kies and I got some error in the middle of the telling me there was an update.
Finally I found this thread:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/185812-jh7-firmware-upgrade-successful-through-kies.html
He says that 1.5.3 version of keys works and the update from kies to get to this version is broken (yes I had this experience) - but the download link to Kies in Korea is slow.
So i found this link to Kies on the AT&T forums:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=17489KPQ
I did not registry cleaning, but i did remove old Kies, delete directory, reboot and install this new Kies. My phone was detected and the update was pushed down to the phone via Download mode.
Kernel is the same, so I will probably put voodoo lagfix back soon.
Exchange works fine for me, so not sure what others see as an issue.
Don't update QuickOffice! The one in JH7 is newer and better.
I can personally verify that this worked. Flashed Odin3 one click to get back to JF6 stock, then followed the directions. Works perfectly and I now have the official JH7 update on my phone
It Works!
This method worked for me as well!
I had originally rooted/sideloaded/removed AT&T bloat on my original stock firmware. OTA update wouldn't work. Restored original stock firmware with Odin and master reset, but update would always fail at 50%.
Using KIES to update worked, and it is the actual AT&T firmware update since it installs QuickOffice (I don't believe the JH7 on samfirmware.com adds QuickOffice).
GPS also works after the update with the "wireless network" option enabled, but the test mode appears to be locked with this update.
OTA update didnt work for me but Kies did. thanks to the OP.

[Q] GT P3113 4.0.4 update

To update from kies, do i need to be unrooted (running stock rooted)... If so, how do you unroot GT 3113??

Nope, you don't have to do anything. Just connect your tab via usb cable and run Kies. If a FW update is available you will be notified as soon as the Kies start...

I am doing that but kies keeps on disconnecting....though this is the issue with most of the people right now..

bro no matter rooted or unrooted when connected to kies it will show update if available.and disconnection problem is with most of tab 2 user.so there are two ways wait for fota or go to service center and get tab updated.
I've tried to update my rooted P3113 from wifi download, not by KIES.
No success! It must be because of the CWM recovery installed, since the tab automatically boots to recovery after downloading updates from samsung. I think the samsung official update scenario stucks at this point (because there is no standart android recovery after CWM installed).
When i'm trying to update rooted P3113 from KIES - no success too, because of "disconnection" problem.
So, we waiting for the stock 4.0.4 rom file for CWM recovery.
Root or unrooted doesn't matter. My tablet is stock and never rooted and Kies was still messing up. Luckily I finally got the OTA this morning.
When I checked for update from my device. It says no update is available. How to get the update?
Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda app-developers app
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 that was rooted and the other day when I turned it on it started updating my tablet. However, the update failed. Probably because I was rooted. So I unrooted the tablet and every time I check for updates it says there are NO updates. I installed Kies on Windows and (after connecting to it with the GTab2 7) it shows me that there IS an update for it. However, every time I click on update it disconnects after a few seconds and and goes back to the initial screen saying there is an update.
So, I can't install it via Kies. And now I when I check for updates it says there are NO updates. Am I totally screwed OR what.
When the update failed, I think when it rebooted to install it THAT it came up to CWM and that is why it failed BUT now CWM is gone and I am definitely NOT rooted with stock ROM on the machine.
However, I see in the settings under STATUS that is shows "modified" instead of "normal".
Is there any way to reset the status? Or is it necessary?

You don't need to unroot, just flash 4.0.4 firmware with odin as i described in this topic
Download firmware from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-P3113
You will have unrooted stock firmware after flash complete. And after that you install cwm and root just as you did with 4.0.3
One way is to just flash it in Odin.
I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645295
This seems to be a pretty foolproof "restock" method.
The only UNROOT method that worked for me!

The only METHOD that UNROOTED my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3113 was the instructions at this web site :
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-tab-2-7-0-p3113-root-clockworkmod-recovery-96474/
It's a 2 step process. I tried several other places that had similar instructions BUT this one worked. You have to download several files and the recovery rom file has 2 different versions and you choose the one that is appropriate for your situation. I was NOT sure which was appropriate so I tried both and it finally worked.
And it DOES unroot it.
And later that night JUST after midnight I was AGAIN notified on my GT2 7 that I had an update. This time it downloaded the 200+ mb file and rebooted and came up and installed it perfectly!
And every thing is working well now and I am on 4.04. It is SO much smoother than 4.03. A real keeper until Jelly Bean comes available.

Ha ha well I should have read this thread before I did a factory reset and installed kies on like 5 computers. Come on samsung.

4.1.2 update for N8010 doesn't update

I own a Galaxy Note 10.1 WiFi N8010, was bought in Germany quite some time ago (so CSC is German),
It came with 4.0.3, which was later updated to 4.0.4 and then to 4.1.1. Currently it is running Jellybean 4.1.1.
I had found the Exynos exploit and used it to root my device. The 4.1.2 update came out so I unrooted my device.
The "Device Status" shows "OFFICIAL".
The device received an OTA package, started installing it, started the count to 100%, and at 28-29 percent, the update stopped, the device rebooted, reported a failure and sent me to KIES.
I have some problems with KIES so I am looking for other solutions.
I thought maybe I'd use Mobile Odin to flash the stock firmware but I found it needed a flashkernel which I do not know how nor want to install right now. I was thinking about using ODIN to flash the firmware, but the size of the firmware scared me. I am used to flash 300MB SBF files on my Motorola Defy but this 1GB firmware is insane! I am afraid my computer will suddenly shut down and I will get a hard brick. Anyway, assuming I got over this fear, I have a couple of questions:
1. Does flashing with ODIN delete the user data?
2. Assuming I want to delete my data (like factory reset) - what options should I choose in ODIN when I flash?
3. Are there any options not including ODIN, KIES or the computer in general?

[Q] Installing original stock rom N8010: Fail

Hallo Forumianers and XDA-Freaks!
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8010 Wi-Fi only) and I got it two years ago with retail mode software on it. To get this retail s**t off, I flashed it with CWM and installed a custom rom with same functionality as the stock rom. I was happy with it until now. For some reasons I need to get original stock rom on it now (e.g. update capability by Samsung) and here my problem starts:
I downloaded N8010XXUCMA5 - Open Germany - JB 4.1.2 file, extracted the zip and flashed my N8010 with Odin 1.85 and the xxx.tar.md5 file. It worked perfectly until trying to write the boot.img data. At the very last second (actually 1 or 2 seconds before it should have been finished) the procedure failed with a red field in Odin and the word Failed in it.
Then I just tried to restart the device normal and I got the "DEAD-SCREEN" (An issue occurred while updating device... a.s.o.).
Frustrated from hours of work - I tried the same procedure three times with same result - and sleepy I decided to go back to a custom rom for now. So !! I flashed CWM on the N8010 by Odin and made a system restart.... !!!!! I couldn't believe: N8010XXUCMA5 rom started perfectly and works without any problems...
But my main problem stays: I can't use update functionality to update to newest Samsung version...
Does anybody have an idea on how to resolve this problem and just install original stock rom by Samsung? (e.g. resetting binary counter - not yet tried, etc....).
Do I have to do special procedure before installing N8010XXUCMA5 version???
Thank you all in advance for any help and/or ideas!!!
Best regards, Ingmar

Not really know what do you mean about boot.img, but I flashed my note using stock rom dozens of time without any problem, just Odin and the stock 4.1.2 rom.
I was thinking, probably the rom you downloaded was corrupted or something. I would do a factory reset from recovery mode and try flashing other version (older 4.0.2). Then do the upgrade from the settings menu instead. Probably you'll need to upgrade to 4.1.2 first then to 4.4
Resetting binary count works PERFECTLY, using triangle away (props to the dev; chainfire, purchased it immediately). You need to root your device to use it tho. And yest, GT-N80XX is supported (mine is GT N8000, Wifi-GSM).
hope that helps.
cheers
Thank you for your answer.
I tried now four different firmware versions (cma5 to cmk2) also with triangle away before (triangle away -> reset counts and status -> boot to download mode -> flash versions).
Neither of the versions work. The flashing by Odin 1.85 always fails between 20% and 99%.
Why this could hapen??? Does anybody have an idea or suggestion on how to get an official version of JB and recovery on N-8010???
Best regards,
Ingmar

Samsung Galaxy S4 "I9505" Black Edition Firmware Flash Issues

Greetings.
I didn't post in very long time on this forum, since I could handle most of the problems on my own,now I need some andvanced tips and advices,so I'm reporting in.
I bough myself a Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition last year here in Bosnia and Hercegovina.Beautiful phone, never got a scratch on it,It had Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box but all of the features from basic S4 except one,it couldn't update firmware to Lolipop 5.0.1.
That used to bother me,since I had much older devices that supported JB and this phone was just special, enough that I couldn't let it be my daily driver having unused potential,so i threw myself at work(which will later prove a very bad decision).
I checked for OTA updates in the settings and that option would litteraly do nothing, providing no info,or searching for new updates.
Smash that Build number, got into developer mode, toggle USB debugging,Install Kies on PC,run it as Admin, download latest drivers, connect the device,Firmware update asks for IMEI and s/n,type them in,says to check my s/n and IMEI,do that few times under different compatibility options, still the same.
I thought it must be something bad with data/catche so i reset to recovery mode and wipe them out, setup the phone, enter the OTA update for second time,it shows me "Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available", check device status and it states "Samsung",after several attempts it sometime said "Modified" sometimes "Samsung",Kies didn't recognise the device through all this process.
I was already lost here, but I thought, hell Kies isn't working, neather is OTA,i could flash using Odin, that might do the trick.
Went to Sammobile, downloaded latest drivers and Odin, found one Firmware that I though was compatible.,unbloked them in properties and set to rin as Admin.
Uninstalled Kies and checked for leftover drivers again, and it was all clear to go,ran odin, mounted firmware, set device in download mode and started flashing but Odin poped out "complete(write) operation fail" error.
Didn't want to try fixing it,went straight back to SM and downloaded two other firmwares, one said "complete(write) operation fail",and the other "Re-Partition operation failed",so I thought Odin was bad, since I checked on two PC's with several USB ports.
Download two more versions of Odin and find a stock s4 PIT file here somewhere for repartrition error.
Extracted everything, unblocked and ran with privilegies, same thing on both Odin versions, except that only Odin 3.07 could flash the pit file alone with no problems it passed.
Next time i ran download mode i tried to flash the firmware write fail came up again, extracted recovery and flashed it alone, worked like a charm,so I tried flashing once again,it proceedes a little further with same write error.
Reset the phone to wipe data and catche and it goes into "Firmware Upgrade Encountered An Issue Error",Install kies,it still doesn't recognise the phone.
Out of option right now I go for search of alternative recovery software, and I found the famous "Dr.Fone" (how stupid I was to not read all those,"if it wasn't for this software my phone would die" comments)
Installed it,ran recovery my phone shuts down and displays "set warranty bit: kernel message",from this point nothing works except recovery mode,so I install CWM recovery and flash a Custom ROM,now only this option that sets my phone in working order and I want to recover it's Firmware back,Anyone that could help me with this issue,or had it solved before?
Atleast give it a try.
this amount of pain can't be titled

Day#4 Fail compilation
I see that this gets no response, but I'll continue this thread just in case I fix this and somebody else gets into same problem themselves.
I mentioned before that I somehow flashed custom ROM over CWM and that helped my phone boot into working state after bootloop error caused by greatest Android software there is on the internet, the legendary "Dr.Fone"
The Custom rom used was "[OFFICIAL][i9500][5.1.x] CyanogenMod 12.1 for Samsung Galaxy S4 [NIGHTLY]" From xda user: Alberto96 (thank you friend).
After several other failed attempts of implementing Stock firmware on this bricked device over the PC,I got to the point where I think that it's literally imposible to make it work since I tried so many ways and patterns of installation with no difference in the outcome results whatsoever.
I took a moment to rethink my strat over this and googled other ways of flashing that firmware without using PC.
Found 2 possible solutions that I'm trying to make use of,first is Odin Mobile and the Other is FlashFire.
Since both require rooted devices, finding way to root bricked S4 wasn't a very pleasant experiance, since flashing SuperSU through CWM recovery didn't work,Odin managed to flash me nice Autoroot from Chainfire over the custom ROM I installed before,I found a problem even there since the I9505 autoroot wouldn't work, the custom firware had changed the phone model to I9507 that I downloaded the Autoroot for,was a confusing issue, but I managed to root it anyways.
Page I used for this purpose was Chainfire Autoroot database(sorry if I'm violating forum rules but I think this could be left here without further discussion about it).
After rebooting the device I downloaded Rootcheck software along with SuperSU and FlashFire which confirmed that it's fully unlocked/rooted.
Now I'm recharging my phone so I can later tonight go ahead and transfer firmware to it's SD card and try to flash it once again with FlashFire, last option I'm thinking of as of now if this wouldn't have any progress is to download Odin mobile and try another flash,I'm running out of ideas on this one.
Sorry for the long posts, but these get no respose so who cares.
