[kernel/Blue ROM](018)AOSP(UV/Intelliplug/dfsync/FauxSound/exFat)[Aug-02] - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Original Android Developme

The Unified Kernel can be found here:

I clicked the link but there isn't one for AT&T or the Canadian Variant. Did you need the complete boot for the Canadian variant as well? I could upload it for you.

I think faux needs the boot.img for ATT/Can

I've uploaded it to my drive for you. Here is the SGH-I337M boot.img as request.
Really looking forward to a custom kernel!

Official ATT version is out. Unified OP updated with official ATT zip

Is there anyway to get the kernel to work without twrp/cwm?

I tried flashing this kernel on my AT&T SGH-I337 in recovery mode and the signature check failed. This causes the phone to reboot with the stock kernel still but with a lot of fc's and at the Samsung startup settings that Bootloops.

No offense but are you an idiot? Our boot loader is still locked so this kernel is useless for us right now.
ATT users have to wait until Dan releases his exploit, then you can flash a custom recovery and kernel.

What question did I ask? Everything I said was a statement. The only question I asked was... are you an idiot? I am aware of AT&T locked bootloader. That's why I posted here so that other individuals wouldn't attempt to flash themselves and inherent the opposed risk.
What you are doing is trolling by saying nothing that is productive to development of this kernel and calling people idiots. I have no problem. I just flashed back to stock rom via Odin, OTA update, Root, freeze apks that prevent future updates, and de-odex my rom...

Stop posting useless statements in this forum when we already know flashing a custom kernel on a locked boot loader doesn't work!

Actually I think attempting to flash a different kernel might have tripped his monotonic counter and with no way to fix it yet, when they receive and check his device for warranty they will see this and cancel the claim and most likely return the phone as is and make you return whatever device you swapped it for.

I saw a post from a very respected dev say the same thing about returning his phone and everyone was like "yeah you are the man, do it rah rah rah" and everyone is killing the guy here...hilarious really.

Unlocked bootloader

So if i unlock my bootloader will i be able to take the JB OTA when it arrives? If not how do i restore the locked bootloader? Also what if my phone has issues.. Would vzw notice i have this?
Sorry if these r dumb questions. I am not 100% on unlocking it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Adam outler specifically stated to not do any ota's after unlocking the bootloader...besides the devs will bring us updates faster than ota anyways. Im not 100% but Adam has a stock bootloader.tar posted in the op of his thread. I believe you would flash that in the bootloader function of odin and that will relock your bootloader...now I am not 100% on this, hopefully others will confirm!
The stock bootloader and firmware flash should do the trick to take updates according to Adam himself in the unlock bootloader post. No guarantee you will ever be able to get it unlocked again though.
Also, CyanogenMod team have already switched to working on the CM10 (jellybean) non-kexec version for Verizon now according to the project status page. I wouldn't take Verizon OTA anyway, don't really want the dumbed down no local search that Apple is forcing on us with their patents.
So I should be able to flash any rom i want now? Also what recovery should I use? Stock/CWM/or TWRP? At least for the CM10s

First you should wait until Devs start releasing Roms and kernels that take advantage of the unlocked bootloader. If you are this unfamiliar with things, just relax and wait for some new/updated Roms to come out that have clear instructions for you. Don't rush into things and brick your phone because you don't fully understand what you are doing.

At this point it's not the recovery but the lack of unlocked bootloader roms (non kexec) for vzws3. I've used rom manager and ez recovery with the s3 with great success.

The only big difference between cwm 6 and previous versions is its support for kexec, but otherwise does the same thing and can be used for any of the Roms we already have (from what I understand. I tried finding the original thread i read that on but came up short so if I'm wrong someone please correct me as I don't want to spread false information).
And honestly I'm sure almost every rom will be updated within 24 hours to reflect this if not sooner and development will be full steam ahead! Just beware of an OTA cause you know Verizon is not gonna be happy we broke out of their sphere of influence. You can prolly guarantee this "issue" will be towards the top of their to-do list.

even if you unlock the bootloader and are worried about OTA's just install clockwork mod or team win. the custom recovery will stop the installation of the files. last line of defense as some phones will download and OTA and install it regardless of what you do (rezound, thunderbolt, etc)

As long as there are still kexec roms out there, you'll still need a kexec recovery to flash them. If you know for sure you won't be using kexec, use whatever you want except for stock. Don't ever flash the stock recovery unless you're mailing it off to Verizon.

That isn't strictly true. CWM 6.x has a couple of nice features that CWM 5.8.x doesn't, like the deduplication technique to save you space when you have multiple backups. You're right though, in that if you're happy with CWM, there's no reason to switch after unlocking.

The OTA's also fail once they boot into recovery if the stock recovery isn't there. So it's not likely you'll get a forced OTA that works.

I can confirm 100% you will have no issues with it. I look like a newbish person here as I don't come on xda much. I just thought I'd spread the love over here. I'm usually over @ Rootz.
http://rootzwiki.com/user/19244-goose306/
I don't like to pull this card, but hopefully you see I have enough reps over there to at least know what I'm talking about
That being said all its going to really do is give you a better radio and patch the no sim issue, and install more bloat (Verizon Remote Access) and dumb down your search abilities. So its about 50/50 as far as benefits. But if you don't like it you can ODIN back to previous firmware versions anyways, so it really isn't that big of a deal. The best benefit you could have would be to root it, unlock it, block the OTA, then install the new radio separately. This will get you the benefit of the new radio and patching the no sim error but without the new Verizon bloat and without the neutered search capability. Best of both worlds.
If you plan on flashing ROMs about the only thing you will be keeping from this OTA going forward will be the new radio. So it doesn't really make a lick of difference either way as the radio can be flashed separately as discussed.

no your fine...one thing this might help with is unlocking wcdma 1900 band so you can use this device on domestic gsm networks. our device current state is a insecure aboot, but there a still signature verification checks being performed before the insecure aboot.img loads. meaning our bootloader is unlocked yes, but the device is not fully unlocked..hince why it still shows "secure boot enabled" in odin mode.

Well, like you said yourself above our aboot.img is truly unlocked, but the phone isn't because of secure boot. All the other versions on other carriers are truly unlocked, but ours isn't, which is why we are unable to flash cross-carrier modems like they can on AT&T or t-mo. I just posted on the wcdma 1900 bounty thread that the dev version could be used to unlock that frequency band if the hardware is there. I truly wish we could disable secure boot, then we could basically do anything we want with this phone. We still have a partially disabled, but unlocked phone.

Emoji Input
View Changes I don't like:
On/Off Button uses words "on and off" instead of the sign
Emojis have changed and they look worse than 4.1 (IMO)
Cannot swipe left (or right) to access lock screen camera (3rd app must do that)
No Swipe to Unlock with passcode on

Not sure many actually "installed" the OTA, think most are waiting for beans and them to crack it open.
Aren't those guys all on the s4?

Yeah. Meant to change title. Oh well.
You may want to retitle this thread as "TW 4.3" since, you know, 4.3 existed on AOSP for some months.

Which means VZW probably has some trickery in this to permalock the bootloader, so be careful.
Can anybody please check what languages does 4.3 have and if they're any different from 4.1.2? As we won't have root as of now, I'm afraid to lose support of one specific language enabled by Language Enabler. Thanks in advance!
Well this is great news. Maybe i'll run it over the holidays for the Camera. Can't wait to see what our great Devs can do with this!

great, permalocked bootloader . The Sprint and T-mobile versions were cracked though...
Someone said delete the new boot loader in the update zip, that's what they had to with the old Motorola.

Sprint and TMobile are never locked. Just Verizon and ATT. This is basically same as S4 and it has never been unlocked. They are blowing Q-Fuses like old Moto.

I wonder who else is going to try and install it
So seeing that Beans hardbricked his S3, is the only way to unroot back to stock, re-lock the bootloader, and then get the update?

Pretty much. I tried to update and it failed. I'm rooted on stock TW and unlocked. Tried a few things and I can't even get back to a stock unrooted rom
I guess I'll wait for a rooted rom.

4.4.2 downgrade to 4.1.2 - Possible?

Hello everyone,
I have a SCH-I535 running 4.4.2 that I bricked last night after running ez-unlocker (attempting to modify the bootload) and just got it back to work after using a debrick image... I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade back to JB 4.1.2? and if so how will accomplish this since it is not letting me bypass the odin process due to a recovery failed error...
Thank you very much!

Wait a week or so. I had an idea the other day and we are just now trying to put it to the test. It may unlock the bootloader, who knows! The method works on Motorola phones with the Qualcomm msm8960 chips. And guess what. The s3 has the same chip. And the exploit was directed towards that chip.

Still testing and digging! But I feel like our efforts are fruitless, as I am no developer and I feel like my friend and I's ideas have been thought of and tested and failed. I do not want to bring any hopes up. But it's starting to look more and more possible. Just be patient

I do hope it's successful! I stupidly took the 4.3 OTA, and I've been regretting it since. Do keep us posted, please!

That link has been posted in these forums before. That downgrade only works on the i9300 international version, not the i535 Verizon version. The screenshot in the article you linked even shows the about phone as the i9300. This article you linked is from 8 months ago. If this worked on the Verizon version it would have been all over these forums. The article you linked even mentions how trying this process resulted in hard bricks on the AT&T version. Anyone trying this on the Verizon version will suffer the same fate.

You posted a link without even reading the details contained inside? Not a good practice. Plenty of new people who would read your description, click on the link, follow the suggestion contained in the article without also looking into the details, and brick their phone. I removed the link from my quote of you. You may want to consider removing the link from your previous post. Just saying.
