Flashing a custom rom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Do you have to be on the same update version that you are flashing? In other words if I'm on VRBLK3 can I flash a custom rom based on VRBMB1 or vise versa?

You can flash anything. I mean I'm running 4.2.2 AOSP which is nothing like what came on the phone.

If I've helped, please hit the thanks button

Yes you Can flash any Verizon Galaxy S3 custom ROMs based on jellybean.

K3 vs MB1 is the modem.
theyre unrelated to the ROM.

[Q] Need some advice whether to upgrade P3100 to JB or flashing custom JB rom?

Hi All,
Would need some of your advices and idea whether I need to upgrade my current P3100 running stock ICS 4.0.4 (THL version) to OTA leaked JB with Indian version or the custom JB rom one? I not sure if there are any pro & con between stock ICS and stock OTA JB or custom JB one?
Appreciate for your advice and noted that very few active threads for this device not like other very active like SII, SIII...etc.
Anybody pls?

Its really up to you! If you're unhappy with stock and want a load of customization go with aokp
If you want customization go with cm10/9
If you like the stock but you really want to flash something go flash deodexed/debloated stock by romswell
Flash The ota leak is if you're really curious to see what samsung has done!
Edit: I almost forgot flash paranoid android if you want to customize the size color and the behavior of each app selectively!

[Q] Stock flashing

Hi all, first post here.
I'm new to rooting and flashing and got my GS3 rooted and unlocked. Before I start flashing ROMs and trying out kernels with them I want to know if there is the stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 (un touched OTA) ROM and the appropriate kernel. The only stock ROMs I'm finding are ones that are altered or outdated.
Recap: 100% untouched 4.1.1 ROM and kernel, also Touchwiz launcher if it has changed going to Jelly Bean.
No one knows?

Section 5 of Droidstyle quite awesome guide:
You would flash this using Odin to return to stock, unrooted VRBLK3 4.1.1. It will format your internal sdcard and re-lock your bootloader. This includes the modem, kernel, and original Verizon bloatware. Whatever customizations you intend to install will be completely removed.
Or are you asking for a rooted version of the VRBLK3 rom? In which case, flash the rooted VRBLK3 version using CWM or TWRP recovery.
That's what I was looking for. I just want to have the stock setup on hand in case I need to put it back.
Is there a file location that has the kernel and rom separated rather than one file?
Thank you.

[Q] Returning from 4.2.2 to 4.1.2

Hello,
I have searched the Razr HD threads with no avail. I have been running CM 10.1, 4.2.2 and would like to return to a 4.1.2 ROM(Nexesque deodexed/zipaligned 9.16.6 (4.1.2) base). 4.2.2 is still a bit buggy for my taste, specifically the camera issues. As I understand, I need to return to the stock kernel prior to flashing a 4.1... ROM via a boot.img file?
Does anyone have the link to the stock Kernel to flash? Also, can I flash this in CWM Recovery? If not, a link to instructions would be great.
This is relatively new to me as ROMs generally have the Kernels built in and flash automatically when installing in Recovery. At least thats how it was with my old HTC INC.
Thanks for your help and assistance.

it was ok for me
I restored to my stock back up, re-wiped, and re-flashed. All is well.

help with flashing cm 10.1

soo i have baked bean rom on my tab right now witch is a unoffical cm10.1 i think and i havent updated it in a long time so i think i should switch to cyangenmod. now i looked at cm10.2 on xda first and i noticed jb bootloaders that you would have to flash with odin, i dont know how to do this, for cm 10.1 should i just have to flash the stable zip and gapps??
I am running the stable release of CyanogenMod 10.1.2_p3100
I downloaded the .zip file and gapps for 4.2.2 and pasted both to my sdcard.
Then I went to CMW mode
cleared the cache, files of previous ROM
flashed the CM10.1.2 stable release for p3100 zip
after that again I flashed the gapps for 4.2.2 zip
and rebooted my device. Now my tab is running it perfectly.
Procedure is same, Be sure to download the correct zip for the correct model number (mine is p3100) and the gapps for 4.3 (because cm10.2 is running 4.3)
You can browse gapps by below link

If you're coming from Jellybean, there's no need to flash JB bootloaders prior to flashing CM 10.1 or 10.2.

ok thanks xD just recently I got my hands on a galaxy s cappy and in order to get gingerbread and up roms I had to flash gingerbread bootloaders, if I didn't it would screw up the phone so I thought this was the same way with my tab.

10.1 is JB that is why you don't need to flash the JB Booloader for flashing 10.2 which is also JB.
