[How To] Disable AT&T browser bookmarks - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

How to remove the AT&T bookmarks from the stock browser and from chrome.
Stock Browser
To remove the AT&T bookmarks from the stock browser you must be rooted. The file listed below can't be disabled and will need to be frozen via an app like Titanium Backup.
To remove the AT&T bookmarks from the stock browser freeze:
com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService
After freezing this file, navigate to Settings > Applications > All and clear the cache and data for the browser. The bookmarks should now be gone!
Note:
It has been reported by erasat (in post # 14) that freezing this file will cause the multi-window feature to stop working. However it was also reported that unfreezing this file restored multi window functionality and the bookmarks remained disabled. YMMV
Chrome Browser
To remove the AT&T bookmarks from the Chrome browser you can disable if you are not rooted or freeze if you are rooted..
To remove the AT&T bookmarks from the Chrome browser disable or freeze:
com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks
After freezing this file, navigate to Settings > Applications > All and clear the cache and data for Chrome. The bookmarks should now be gone!
Note:
scrosler advised that freezing / disabling the Chrome file will cause the Chrome bookmarks to stop syncing with Google.
He has an alternate method for removing these bookmarks. Here is his method for which you will need to be rooted:

Either will work but since they are pretty small files I would just freeze them as opposed to un-installing..

Just an update I'm running latest ota for att, disabled or deleted is not getting rid of the stock bookmarks

This fix worked for me with Chrome. I force closed it after disabling the service.

sad, you buy a phone and your average user wont be able to delete bookmarks, stuff like this pisses me off!

just wanted to confirm, i froze those 2 things in the OP and they did not stop those bookmarks from appearing in my stock browser. when i open up my stock browser and go to bookmarks, there are still 4 at&t bookmarks under the samsung tab. a restart after freezing them didnt help. oh well.

Mine are gone so I'm not sure why you still have them showing..

OK went to settings /applications and cleared data for the default browser and it got rid of the bookmarks, nice job!!

So, I unfreeze it, got back my Multi-Windows and still got rid of the bookmarks.

Yeah, I was just going to say you dont want to do that.
If you want really remove the bookmarks from AT&T then navigate to /system/csc/customer.xml...
Remove the bookmarks block.
Freezing those two programs will have the noted affect above and.. the inability to sync your bookmarks with google sync service.
Just an FYI :highfive:

Thanks Scott!
I gave my S4 to my son and am now awaiting the arrival of my Nexus 4..
Probably won't be in this forum much anymore..
Do you mind if I add your way to the OP (with due credit of course)?

What's odd is default browser doesn't sync with my Google bookmarks don't have the option under Google account to sync bookmarks b4 or after killing flashbar

How to recover from aggressive bloatware

Deleting Tmobile myaccount will cause your phone to go into infinite force closes making your phone unusable. If this happens, remove your SD card and SIM card, than reboot. After rebooting you will see your bloatware has returned and your phone will be back to normal. Using titanium backup, however, and "freezing" the app causes no problems and at least stops the background services from running. Deleting Telenav GPS navigator will NOT effect your phone's gps as one thread in general states, and freezing the "backup" system app which runs the tmobile contacts syncing account in titanium backup is good to do a well. Both of these apps leave 2 constant background services running.

Kind of a live and learn thing?
MyAccount is actually a nice app to have. Provides quick access to your account information as opposed to accessing via the web. not sure why you would want to remove it anyhow it's not really bloatware as much as it is a functional app design for tmobile customers.
Tmobile TV is another story.
Your right to a degree
its all depending on the person....I mean I personally never worry about my minute usage so i dont need to constantly check, so for me its useless, and if i really wanted to access my account id just go on my comp.... anyways like i said its all opinion
I deleted my account and just held the power button to reboot. No issues with it coming back and no more my account.

Of course, same as if you deleted Wifi Calling. That's why I hold down power until the phone reboots and then it doesn't force close anymore.
Why delete those? Especially MyAccount, provides useful information for sure!
I deleted My Account 1.0 and now have FC Issues, HELP!
I was trying to get rid of "My Account", AKA T-Mobile My Acount, to keep it from constantantly running in the background, but actually deleted "My Account 1.0", nad not the "My Account 4.?" with Titanium Pro... I tried to freeze them both but the program kept appearing in my task list, so I deleted the My Account 1.0 entry.
Soon as I did, I got a buzz... buzz buzz buzz... the buzzes of death... I now get force closes when ending a phone call, when trying to read SMS, and when trying to view my call log.
This is killing me, and I have no idea how to fix it...
Any experts out there, please help!

Never mind, I had frozen Logsprovider...
I've Been able to do the following with no ill effects so far :
Uninstalled via TitaniumBackup
=======================
AppToHome
GoGo
Y! Finance Clock
ThinkFree Office
TeleNav GPS Navigator
T-Mobil TV
Slacker
Media Hub
Kindle
Inception
DriveSmart
DriveSmart System
doubleTwist
DeskHome
CarHome
Buddies now
All Share
Air Sync
Frozen via TitaniumBackup
============================
Audio PostCard
Backup
Days
Memo
MiniDiary
Video Chat
WiFi Calling -- dosn't really work tbh
Write and go
--
Apparently freezing the "Wifi Calling" app dosn't actually work for me, even after rebooting.
Orionsmart, if you remove DriveSmart, does it remove the link for it inside the settings menu?
EDIT: I just went ahead and removed it, was tired of it running constantly without even using it, and the menu item remains. Small price to pay I suppose.

If I backup TeleNAV GPS with Titanium Backup, and then delete it, how can I restore it? I want to have as many MB free in Storage since the reason why I bought the phone was to access the Market and install lots of useful apps
Titanium backup created two files: com.telenav.app.android.telenav-20110314-174328.properties
com.telenav.app.android.telenav-20110314-174328.tar.gz
The tar.gz file has this inside:
\data\com.telenav.app.android.telenav\
inside I see 4 folders:
.\databases
.\files
.\lib
.\shared_prefs
What should I do now if I want to restore the Bloatware?
The custom Odin tar file that krylon posted works great includes root, and already has bloat removed. After I got it flashed on my phone there is a huge difference much smoother and faster than original stock.

on the other hand, i think there is a stock software file floating around the forums somewhere..
If you want to replace something and you are rooted. Buy root explorer from the market and get your hands on the. Apk (for this phone) and really install the apps you want. Otherwise if you root first then make a back up of apps with titanium backup from the market, you can then also select the ones you want and either delete or freeze the ones you don't want to keep.

I think someone in another thread mentioned that it caused problems with another app or got force closes.
I removed DriveSmart and the only issue is that under Android settings, the tile for DriveSmart is still there and if you press it, you get a FC. That's the only problem I've noticed in the past 2 months.

For Those With Battery Draining Issues

I Found that the service called omadrmconfigservice hogs battery while ur screen is off. bascially it won't allow the device to sleep. It's function is to check for theft from media hub. It runs constantly, updating every 11.5 seconds. simple solution.

[All roms][Sharing] Huge battery saver!

Google think that almost every device running android, is their device. Therefore they implemented a service within Google Play Services that will connect your device often to the Google and it will drain more battery then needed.
NOTE:
I tried a method that was shown on i think this forum or another one. I can't remember which one it was, and i cant find the thread either.
So before i am going to start this, i wanna thank the guy from the original thread for this, even if i dont know where i can find you. I am only sharing this so i take NO CREDITS.
I repeat, i am ONLY sharing this.
+ Works with:
- AOSP roms
- TW roms
- Well, basicly all android running devices :fingers-crossed:
To start with:
- Turn of location settings
- Go to settings, accounts and go to your google account.
+ go to advertisements and untick the toggle that says that Google takes care of your advertisements.
Most important:
- Download Adaway (latest) from HERE.
Thank you @mrRobinson for this awesome app!
- Open adAway and provide Adaway root access.
- Press the menu button and go to your own custom list.
- Now add a line by pressing the + button in the upper right of the screen.
- Add the following line < mtalk.google.com >
- Make sure the the checkmark is ON with the "mtalk.google.com" line.
- Now go back to the homescreen of adAway, apply the patch.
Note: According to the maker of the original thread, this seems to be the server that your device is always trying to communicate with. So by blacklisting this URL, there is no connection anymore.
Note 2: Cyanogenmod (and maybe other AOSP or GE users) are experiencing that the Blue highlighted WI-FI icon and the blue highlighted antenna icon are now GREY after applying this.
This is because you are not connected anymore to the google servers.
Note 3: Keep in mind that you can still manual synchronise your calander, contacts, Gmail, and other Google account related.

This (syncing) only applies for manual updates. Leaving the entry in Adaway will disable auto-updates. Not a viable option for me, am not going to manually refresh Google apps...

I don't think Ad away works as it should though.
It says its syncing and merging with my current hosts file but after doing that my hosts file goes from 1.4mb to 700kb. So all its doing is deleting stuff. Weird

I believe this is not a viable option for many users for the same reason ...but still for some may be useful

I think if you do that, you are not even able to Sync and update your apps at al.
I am just sharing this, i am using it myself and im pretty satisfied.

I always delete GooglePlayServices and never have any problems with apps updating.
I still get notifications in my status bar telling me when there is an app update available in the Play Store and also still get my Gmail notifications in my status bar.
Syncing works perfectly and so does Maps, Google Search, YouTube etc.
I actually can't see ANY reason to have GooglePlayServices installed.
All my Google apps still function perfectly without it.
And I no longer have RAM wasted and battery used up by this annoying app!!
My advice to everyone, delete it, it's not needed at all.

Was pretty euphoric when I read this so immediately disabled Play Services and rebooted like a happy little kid
That level of joy didn't last long:
Maps, Calendar, Keep, Youtube, these all need G.P.S. to function properly. Maybe even more apps but this is where I stopped.
Needless to say turned it back on again. This, as well, is not a viable option for me

That's odd, I don't get Google Maps requesting Play services on my device.
I do get one of those notifications after wiping cache and dalvik cache though, I just swipe it away and carry on as normal.
After you swiped them away can you still use the apps requesting it?
For example when I first boot up YouTube after wiping cache it says it needs PlayServices to run but I just ignore and cancel it.
I have never lost any YouTube functionality at all.

Some yes, some no. Keep refused to work. Anyway, can easily make it through the end of the day anyway and will always charge at night so no biggie but all small bits can help of course. This fix is a bit too coarse, for me that is of course

Getting rid of Samsung internet andx use chrome instead.

I'm not sure why you would need to disable It? Just set Chrome as To The default I think...

Only had the device several hours. I downloaded chrome and even my favorites list came with it. I deleted the Samsung internet app. For sure you can do the same. :good:

Lol I was literally just about to post that I figured it out when I used package disabler
No 3rd party app needed for me, I just went into app mgr, found the Sammy internet and cleared the default. Then was going to click a link hoping it would prompt me to choose Chrome, but when I went in app mgr to check Chrome settings, it was already default...
Why would you get rid of Samsung Internet?
You can use your fingerprint reader or the Iris Scanner (i think) to log in on websites and so on with it, which is a really nice feature. You can't do that with Google Chrome (correct me if i'm wrong on that).
Big Chrome user here but I honestly prefer the UI and the look of the samsung browser. Would definitely switch over to it if I had all my bookmarks and settings synced as easily as Chrome does.

I agree. Samsung browser is also a smoother experience.

Few Key differences between chrome and Samsung Browser.
Chrome : can easily sync your bookmarks, history across devices and is very convinient.
Samsung Broswer: History and bookmarks are synced under samsung email ( I really hate this and want to sync eith google) but fingerprint login to websites, ad blockers which works like a charm and video assistant which works grest on many anime sites is a big plus for me.
I use chrome on my work and personal laptops but samsung broswer on mobile.

Actually just tried this and it worked surprisingly smooth. I may just end up switching to the Samsung browser now to give it a try.

Google chrome autofill Passwords and that is cross platform if you login.

Just uninstall it. On my international version i am able to do it out of the box.
Thanks for the post Sammy Internet is crazy and glad it's gone, use package disabled. Look at this insanity using sammys 'smooth' brower, never had a ad in years, all rooted up and then this thing pops up using sammysnet!
App I used was called
'Service disabler' and it was free, disabled 48 foul things associated in Sammy net
