[Q] HTC explorer a310e (rooted) - HTC Desire S

Okay, here is the problem.I'm relatively new to rooting & flashing.I was trying out different roms. The phone is working great. But now,ROMs takes up all my internal storage.Only around 24 MB is left(This only with my stock rom,I am not able to install other ROMs at all because of space constraint).
Total Internal memory is: 150 mb
ROM takes up upto 120 mb now
before I almost had around 90 MB for myself.
I tried reading about the same problem in different forums like XDA developers.I couldn't find a solution anywhere.
Using my recovery (team win recovery) i found out that \data & \cache has junk file of around 97 & 26 MB respectively although i have formatted it multiple times.
Since i have rooted my warranty is void.I can't ask about it in HTC sevice centre.
Is there a way to format \data and \cache forcefully via computer or recovery?
I'll be really thankful if someone could help me with this!

This is not a HTC Explorer section

The Infuse's internal is partitioned in 2. The first half is seen as full on internal, the second half is considered to be an sd card, an internal sd card. And no, there is no way to format it.

what do you mean format? i mean you can format it by factory resettign the phone through settings but that formats the data partition as well and loses all your data. you may be able to format it in windows but none of this will change the size of anything. you cant change the partition tables, well technically you can but don't you will brick your phone! and sinse 2gb is on a different device all together you cant change that at all either.
you seem a bit confused on how this all works. the 1.77 or 2 gb is phone storage, it is used for apps, contacts, message storage, phone related stuff. the 13.1 or 14 is sd storage built into the phone, the aditional 2 is external sd storage (it's under the sim card, remove the battery to get to it. you can expand it up to 32 +the 14 built into the phone). the numbers below advertiesed are just different ways of measuring gigabytes. the definition of giga is 1billion but in conputing they use powers of 2 tradidionally so killo isn't 1000 it's 1024 mega isn't 1million its 1,048,576. mega and kilo pretty much aloways are interperated that way in computing. giga/tera however sometimes use there literal meanings 1billion/1trillion and sometimes mean 1000/1,000,000 megabytes and might also mean 1024/1,048,576 megabytes which would be 1,073,741,824-bytes for gigabytes, if you look at packaging of new hard drives there is often a disclaimer on the method they are using to advertise the capacity. i dont remember which way windows reads gbs but this is one reason hard drives never report the same space as advertised and why you see 13.1 instead of 14 and part of why you see 1.77 (some of it is used for the /system and other partitions) instead of 2.
And that's why you are one of the best there is DANi...I learn from listening to your thorough answers and explanations...very nice..

that's weird. did you install a whole bunch of app? or things like ringtones ect?
1.77gb is alot for a phone and i never filled up the storage. unless it is the market bug where apps above a certain size never download. if that's the case you need to downgrade the market. if the phone did not come with the new market you can go into settings>applications>all and find the market/vending.apk then you can uninstall updates. if you would like to install a custom rom then gtg465x had a fix for this in a custom market .apk with his roms, and entropy and linux bozo have a kernel fix in their gingerbread kernels so the new market will download apps of any size.
if you infact filled the storage then you can move apps to the sd card in settings>applications>downloaded but keep aftermarket launchers and applications with widgets on the phone storage. the reasaon is that the sd card doesnt mount till after the ui starts and apps on the sd card will disapear from the home screen, if the launcher is on the sd card it will default to the touchwiz launcher. you can also do this in bulk with titanium backup.
Hi
hi yeah it tells me i have 1.7 gb free and i get a message from the mark. i try to download i all the angry birds games at the same time and the first one was able to install fine and then i get that message from the market . i had to move that game to the sd before installing the rest i just installed this ROM MIUI - and when i had the stock ROM i never had this problem - i really like this ROM ... i only have like 5 apps installed and i have moved most of them to the SD - Facebook wont move and A.I Type wont move to the SD the rest are on the Sd -
i read some where on the web where i could go in terminal type a code and have all the apps that i download go there directly to the in.. sd card - im not sure if this is possible that's why im asking @
That no space warning is a bug in Market, go to settings>market and uninstall updates.
Things should download then, search Market fix.
Or just reboot...it will fix it also...done it many times

the newwest miui "should" have a kernel end fix. i mean the aosp kernel was developed by linux bozo and he put out a market fix on the hellraiser kernel but i dont keep up with the aosp roms.
if the kernel isn't part of the latest miui you may want to try the cm7 kernel, it is possible that because jordan elliot is having family things going on that are more important that he hasnt updated the kernel since the fix was released.
anyway it doesnt matter where you put the apps the low space message is an error. it has little to do with the space available.
when you have questions like this it helps on occasion to provide the carrier the phone is for(rogers/att), the rom or kernel you may have installed and if it is stock provide the baseband and maybe even what network you are on if it is not the one that the phone was released for. there may be known issues or differences that affect the answer and it is more productive if you can avoid having questions answered with questions or really broad answers.
Hi thanks for your help man like I said im new to this .. i was getting a msg from the market saying that because I think the market has a 30 mb download limited ... everything is working from know.. next time ill try to read more before I post lol ..

[Q] One S space used by stock rom.

I was looking on the storage tab and I saw 4gb space taken by .. something.. I am curios , what could take so much space ? I have a database server running centos that takes less. Anyway , I havent rooted my phone yet and I am curious . Anyone could tell me what is there eating so much space ? Also with custom rom can you free more space from that ? I come from Desire S, there the stock 4.0.4 rom was using 5-600mb .
That "Other" is probably a load of cache and data that has built up over time and that you've never bothered to delete. At least 1GB of that will be Facebook if you are a heavy user.

The phone is 5 days old. And no I don't use facebook , those 4gb in other remain there even after factory reset. That is why I am asking.

4.50 / 6.07 is just not true. You do not have 6G of app storage. You have about 2.50G.
So it's possible that you have about 1G used, and therefor about 1.50G free. (If they calculate used space from free space plus an assumption of total space..)
The layout is:
10G - sdcard
2.5G - data
1.7G - system
0.25G - cache
rest - sbl, hboot, boot, recovery, radio, wifi, modem, splash, ...
Touch of jobo what you say makes sense , but I just dont understand what can be in /data to eat 2.5gb or in system to eat 1.7gb

Those 2.5GB and 1.7GB for data and system respectively are the partition sizes. It doesn't necessarily mean they are full. (In fact, they are not.) It means we could technically flash ROMs that have up to 1.7G of /system. (Currently, ROMs take only up to about 700M tho.)
I believe that you have about 1GB of apps and app data on your /data partition, so about 1.5GB of /data free.
-Jobo
You should download a file manager and have it inspect your SD card to see what's on it and in your internal memory(Not sure if Stock Sense had something like this) I used ES File Manager and it gives you a pretty layout showing what's using what
Thanks IntelligentAj very good ideea . Look at the 2 screenshots taken with sdmaid . The partitions look different and some space is not there
later edit.
Actualy I took it to calculator .It adds up to 5273 mb , is close enough I guess. Should help if anyone else has questions on stock JB partitions .
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
I would strongly recommend rooting your phone though and installing a custom ROM. Stock Sense is exponentially slower than pretty much all custom ROM's
I will root it no doubt about it . I have a desire s and lenovo tablet all rooted . But with this one is more complicated .. I have to keep it untouched for some time. And I was curious about the space .
Oh I was worried when I first rooted my phone but they have all in one tools or you can do the actual adb stuff, which isn't hard at all as long as you follow directions

{Need Help} Wipe data/Factory reset but internal storage is only 20 mb

I have rooted my PICO and tried custom roms
i have flash 3 or four roms in 1 day just to check which rom will be better for me and finally decided to flash cyanogenmod 9
after flashing the rom (without gapps) it show internal storage 150mb in total and 28mb used where as 51mb available i want to know where is 71mb remaining.
I used diskusgae it says setem data is taking up around 100 mb but there is no application installed.
I tried to come back at my stock rom and restore from backup but it is now showing 23 mb only which was 113 mb before.
I always use wipe data/factory reset before flashing new rom,
now i am suffering from low memory because if i flash gapps i will not have enough memory to use play store infact it says the process ended
do i have to change the kernal ??? or what is happened to my phone ? wipe data not working or what ?
Please help me ....

second point is that i have my nandroid backup of stock rom, i restore the same using recovery after restoring it shows only 23 mb available internal storage without any application installed, it should have 113mb avaible i use diskusage it shows 100 mb taken by system data.
i am confused... any help will be appreciated.
also let me know how to flash nand if it is burned which you said in your reply.

[Q] After rooting and installing custom firmware, hardly internal memory on P5110

Hey there,
I finally got the courage to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P5110).
All went well. Put Odin3-v1.85_3 on it and shakatu_recovery-clockwork-unofficial-6.0.3.1-p5110.
After rooting i installed (as decribed on the webpage) a custom firwmare: cm-10.1-20130409-NIGHTLY-p5110
Everything works smooth and easy and fast (!), way faster than the stock firmware on it.
BUT: what happened to my internal memory? I only have a few apps installed (should be around 3 Gb), the same apps when i had stock firmware, but when i tried to install a game, it surprised my i had hardly any internal memory left!!!
When i go into settings and go to storage, the device calculates how much free space i got left. It shows me i have around 600 Mb left. Graphically it first shows it's almost full (grey bar), but later after indexing it shows the correct amount of free space. But the text underneath it remains around 600 Mb.
When i go into a file explorer and give it superuser rights, i can go to upper levels of the internal storage and there are loads of folders there. It seems it has something to do with the rooting or the stock firmware (backup or something)??
How can i clear more internal memory? Should I do some sort of wipe again in Clockwork Recovery??
Thanks for reply!
BTW: swapping internal and microsd card memory is not an option for me.
Below i wanted to put photos what my device shows, but i'm not allowed to do so since i'm a newbie....

i had the same problem!
but you will have to be on the stock rom, that is the original rom for your tab. Connect your tab on mass storage mode. Go to my computer, and format your tab from there. remember to make a backup of every thing. U will then have a full 12 gb free storage.
plz press thanks
Hi,
You probably still have a lot of the junk from the stock rom on the internal sd along with the data from your new rom. If you have the rom file you flashed on your external sd card. You can boot into recovery and format /sdcard to nuke almost everything. You'll have to stay in recovery after this is done and reflash the CM rom and install the apps you want from scratch to get the maximum amount of free space.

So, if my custom rom (install)file is on my external SD card, i can format my (internal)sd card? Afterwards install the custom rom again (from external sd card) and i'm ready to go.
Is that correct?
Thanks, i think it worked. At least i have all my internal memory back!

Atrix 2 4.04 Rooted System ROM too FULL! What do I delete?

Atrix 2 4.04 Rooted System ROM too FULL! What do I delete?
Forgive me XDA'ers. I'm getting older & I forget what I've learned here at XDA. It's been close to 2 years that I had my Droid X2, rooted it.
Haven't played with other phones.
So finally got an Atrix 2 & rooted it. Thank God found Boot Menu Manager here because ROM Manager wasn't working.
Anyways in Titanium Backup Pro says:
System ROM: 500 MB (7.16 MB free)
Having only 7.16 MB free concerns me greatly. What do I do to gain space? Ideally I like 20% or more free space.
Have 21 GB free on the 32 GB SD card & 4.31 GB free on the 4.88 GB Internal.
Have all the goodies installed afaik (emulator, Root Explorer etc). If you need more info or in another form let me know. Thank you kindly.
Afaik.. System partition only for system stuff.. I think its normal to have that much free space.. All other applications install in future will go to data partition.. Which is 4.31 or ur internal.. XD
This should be asked in Q&A section and not in dev section.
And to answer it, stock ROMs are full of bloatware which leaves you with least amount of space left on system folder.
So if you want more space, you can either delete unwanted system apps ( proceed with caution or you might delete a necessary file for the phone) or flash a custom ROM. I get around 100mb free space on my system with carbon ROM.
So is it ok to have minimal space left or am I just inviting trouble?

No problem at all. It doesn't matter how much of space you Have on System folder. If you wanna make an app as system app by manually moving it to system/app with permissions or if you're gonna flash a zip to add a system app, you'll need more space on system of course. All the downloaded user apps will be in /data. It is no way related to /system.
Thank you so much. I was concerned.
And thanks to the mod who moved this thread appropriately. Sorry about that.
