[Q] CM7 (build 93) - 3G radio issues???

Ok. So I ran into a serious issue and it most likely has something to do with the 3G radio.
Here's what happened. Phone was down to about 15% batteries after some Youtube and Angry birds. I was at my folks place and the cell signal there is not as strong, but still a bar showing. I noticed the phone was quite warm, but thought nothing of it since I was using Youtube/Angry birds. Check a few emails and noticed the batters quickly dropping to 12% within a few minutes and noticed Battery Status Monitor was reporting 990mA draw. I was alarmed, but didn't think too much about it and went to have dinner with the folks.
about 30/40 min later after dinner. The battery was dead. Didn't have my charger with me, so I didn't plug in for another couple of hours until I got home. Plugged in, booted up, everything was fine, except it would not connect to cell service stating "No Service". I then tried a bunch of things, rebooting, swapping out the battery, swapping out the SIM, but no avail. Swapping the same SIM to my old HTC works fine and connects on AWS 3G network.
This morning I tried another SIM that not on AWS, and it connects (assuming on 2G/EDGE network). Swap back in my original SIM and back to "No Service" (my provider only has 3G AWS service).
So at this point, I'm pretty convinced I have a hardware problem so I restore the stock Froyo ROM to return my phone...then magically, I'm back alive on the 3G AWS network!
Someone tell me what's going on!
I haven't tried to reflash CM7 again. Quite frankly I'm quite scared this may not be hardware problem and maybe a software issue instead, and may be stressing the 3G radio.
Help!

First, not to be rude, but this isn't development.
Secondly, what carrier are you using that only has 3G service and nothing else?
To me it sounds like your SIM card could just be shot, especially if you were able to insert another and it worked just fine.
Then again, that's hard to determine if your carrier actually only offers 3G service.

How do I move this thread?
My original SIM is fine. It works fine on my HTC in 3G. The other SIM is with another carrier that's NOT on AWS spectrum and my G2X connected in 2G only. I'm in Canada, our new carriers Wind, Mobilicity, Public, etc are on 3G+ AWS only with no 2G fallback. I can restore my CM7 and try a hard reset if it doesn't come up. But I'm just concern, there's a software issue that cause this failure.

I had just flashed the newest CM7 Nightly and noticed when I woke up in the morning, my SIM wasn't being read. I wiped, re-flahsed, no workie. I tried a hard reboot, nothing. I even flashed to build 90 and still didn't read my SIM.
I'm loading xhoarder's tweaked GB right now...and it STILL isn't reading my SIM!!! What the hell happened?

Mine stopped working after a couple of days. I'm back on stock Froyo and it's working again. Did it work at all for you with the latest CM7 nightly?

It worked while I set everything up and loaded my apps. Went to bed, and when I woke up, the SIM wasn't detected. I'm on xhoarder's tweaked GB ROM and my SIM still isn't working.
Going to try a hard reboot.

[Q] mobile data not working, poor or no phone signal

Hey guys, I haven't done anything to my phone but all of the sudden, the data and phone signal basically quit working. I have a very hard time getting texts, phone calls etc to go though but it will eventually (usually takes a while or a few tries) and as far as data goes, I basically have no connectivity at all unless I'm on wifi. It says 3g or H every once in a while, but it's really slow and usually doesn't stay for long. I'm running CM9, and like I said before I didn't change anything that I'm aware of that would have caused this problem. It worked fine before, and it just stopped. Ideas? Thanks

have you called your provider? maybe its on their end.

I'm having the same exact problem... it shows my 3g it shows all my bars but instead of the bars being colored or the 3g be in color is gray. Also I cannot get back conectivity until I restart the phone. Does anybody have an idea what this is?

Are you on AT&T? I was not having any problems until a certain point in time, and I didn't change or do anything to incite them. I'm not even getting calls anymore, I'll just get all my texts in a wave every few hours. My data is useless, it won't stream, or load web pages, and my phone is frequently saying "Emergency calls only" when I'm sitting at my freaking house (which normally has full 3g and cell signal and is very fast)

I still have the issue. Samsung says its not them. ATT does nothing. It;s liek the phone just stopped working, started dropped calls, missing calls, and the internet connection sucks. I have an iphone for work through ATT as well and have no issues with signal.

Hmm
Make sure you have the right, most up to date settings for APN, and flash original radios. if it still doesn't work, make sure you have the i9020A, which has the at&t 3g antenna, not i9020T which has the T-Mobile antenna, vice versa.

Have you tried other radios for your device (make sure you flash the appropriate ones for your model)? Any signal info under Phone Information when dialing *#*#4636#*#*?

Sounds like you're having the exact same problem I am having. I switched sim cards, flashed different roms, etc and nothing. (although to be fair, after the new sim, things work better, but still not well) I'm about ready to pop my sim back in my craptivate and just go with that... or buy an iphone off of craigslist.

I am 100% sure I have the 9020a, but I don't know anything about APN and flashing radios. I have only ever flashed full roms before, so I wouldn't know where to look for the original radio.

I have not tried other radios. The signal info seems solid, sitting at my house, but the 3g is still horridly slow. It taked 15-30 seconds to load a webpage, even a pretty mundane one like google. Messages still come through in waves, and often won't send

About your APN, AT&T should provide you with the proper values to put in under Settings | Wireless & Network | More | Mobile Networks | Access Points Names.
If you are on ICS, they values should populate by themselves.
Can you try flashing other radios and see if you encounter the same problem:

Make sure you backup your EFS folder (and all data for that matter).

I had similar problems, they were related to turning 3g on/off with a APN widget while the phone had little signal. As soon as started enabling and disabling 3g on the android options everything was back normal.

the data works most of the time now it's just retardedly slow. I can't stream music even on low quality, nor can I watch youtube without leaving it for 5 minutes to buffer,pages take forever to load, and I was downloading a 6 meg app and it took 20 minutes to download whenI was leaving the phone alone and not moving. I got really sick of trying to fix it and finally gave it to geeksquad to send in to get replaced. sigh.

4G gone on cm10 for me

UPDATE 2. I've read enough around and heard from enough people that it doesn't matter if you root, flash a rom, tw or cm10 or are totally stock. the SGS 3 eats SIM cards. most think it does so when flashing or updating to the G7 radio. doesn't matter if you flashed it yourself or took the OTA update. Some people just can't get 4g. some can't check for a receive OTA updates. A new SIM card has fixed every issue i've seen so far regarding either of those two issues.
UPDATE....new sim card was the only thing that would fix this issue for me. Seems it wasn't cm10 related as I couldn't get 4g on stock or on tw roms either. Not sure if the sgs3 is eating sims or if the flashing of roms or radios or rooting caused the issue.
I used to have 4G...then I started using some cm10 ROMs and now 4G is gone. Looking for recommendations on how to get it back?
Do you think a data wipe and loading of a TW ROM would be enough? or are more drastic measures needed?

yep its there like normal. Everything else works and works really well. Just no 4g.
I've done a full wipe, cache, d-cache, format system but it didn't help.

Have you tried dialing *#*#4636#*#* then under phone information make sure it says lte cdma you may have accidentally hit the toggle to turn off lte.

Well, I live outside of normal Verizon territory so maybe that's why I get "can't complete the number as dialed" message when I try *#*#4636#*#*
Here is a screenshot of those settings when looking through the menus

Go back to stock. If it's not working still - back up everything you want on your INTERNAL SD card (like pictures, etc) and dial *2767*3855# . Should fix it. The reason you probably can't dial the above # is you're not on stock.

I had the same problem and I have no idea why this fixed it or if it will help you, but here's what I did.
Download Phone Info from the Play Store and use it to force LTE only. When I did that, the lte icon came on but I had no bars. I opened the browser to see if I had data at all, which I did. Then all of a sudden i'm back to 4 bars on lte. I went back into Phone Info and switched it back to the default and then even uninstalled it and i'm still back to normal lte service.

that app won't even open. I'm guessing you need to be on a touch wiz rom or completely stock to use it?

Use that app. Its just a shortcut for the dialer code I gave you. Don't know why it didn't work though. Its a internal command I can run it in airplane mode.

I restored a backup of a Touch Wiz rom i had saved and there I could use the app. (dialing the number directly still didnt' work just fyi)
So next time i'm in a 4g area...I'll restore that tw rom and run that app and give it a go.
If it works. Then i think I'll try to install the cm10 rom i want to use and test 4g again.

I did a format system when I installed my cna cm10 rom. Any chance that made me lose 4g?
seems odd as many are using that rom with 4g.
Did it break for me for how I did my system wipe or factory reset or that i used CWM instead of TWRP?

I had the same problem after installing aokp jb#1.
Rolled back to stock rooted, tried cm10, aokp 2&3.
Still no 4G.
Was planning to go back to stock and hit Verizon.
In the meantime, I installed juice defender to extend battery life.
Juice defender disables WiFi and radios to save energy.
Sure enough, when I wake the phone, 4G comes on!!!
Not 100% sure this is what fixed it, but.... I have solid 4G now

running paranoid android 2.16

the Only thing that would fix this issue for me is a new SIM card.

I did too last night on stock rooted. That was on verizons end I believe. I lost all service and data for about two hours. Then it came back on. I freaked out and odined back to stock which didn't work. Thought it was the sim card but it fixed itself.
Not the rom. That was a provider issue for sure. I had imei as well

I recently bought a S3 from swappa which came with CM10. I reverted back to stock when I was having issues with calls dropping and other problems. I was never able to get 4g although I used to have it consistently on my galaxy nexus. I used phone info to force 4g lte and that seems to work but I can't receive any calls when on it. As soon as i switch back to LTE/CDMA/EvDO the phone goes back to 3g and I can get calls. I'm going to head to the verizon store after work to see if they'll give me a new SIM but just seems strange I can force LTE and it works.
My Nexus died when it got wet. Anyone think the SIM could have gotten messed up getting wet?

its possibility for sure...also you could try reprovisioning your device by dialing *2767*3855#

Yeah I'd really like to know if ^ this fixes it. If not I'd bet the new sim card will have you working instantly

what your describing with your 4G was Exactly my experience with it. new sim card...and all is well.

[Q] Skyrocket on Tmoblie dilemma

So, I got a AT&T Skyrocket s2 i727 from amazon. its already unlocked and i noticed it was stuck on edge speeds when i put in my sim card. I researched why it was on google and came across this site, which i have to say is amazing!. i have read every topic there is about how to root/unroot, flash roms, radios, kernels, etc. over the last i dunno, week or so. So i decided to give it a try since everything is step by step, which im not illierate towards, i understood what it all meant. first thing i started out with is odim and flashed the cwm touch for the skyrocket, which was easy. i then researched some more and seen i wanted to make this phone on tmoblies 4g service, which here in iowa is called IWireless, anything tmoblie works with this since they are an affiliate of tmoblie. I started out downloading all the radios, which i have:

Telus_SGH-T989D_Kj3_radio
Tmo_SGH-T989_KID_radio
Tmo_SGH-T879-UVLG3_radio
Tmo_SGH-T989_VK1_radio
Tmo_SGH-T989_UVLE1_radio
Blaze_4G_LB7_ICS_Radio_MOD
so as u can see ive got pretty much all of them. then i found which rom i wanted to use, i downloaded CM9 and CM10. for the CM9 build i seen the best kernel for it: InstigatorX-CM9-Kernel3-v6.0.3. also downloaded the gapps for each cm build.
then i followed the instructions the CM team left, backup, factory reset, format, install the radio, then cm os and finally the gapps.
I did all this with each radio and each cm, everything. no i did not brick my phone im alot smarter than that lol. whenever i try a radio, usually im just stuck on the edge speeds. i go into my settings on the phone and it wont save me selecting the lte/gsm/wcdma, just stays on the wcdma preferred....when i did each radio i started from fresh, cleaned everything out, even tried the davlik wipe in the advanced settings in cwmtouch.
so i read in other forums that ppl tried to flash over radios. that didnt work, i was left with no signal at all.
i still have the imei number on my phone when i dial *#06#, so i havent lost that, but every radio i use my baseband version says unknown.
also when i enter the service code in for cm10 and cm9, it wont save my selction of what bands id like to use....
so any help here would be appreciated...im losing my mind over this and it sucks...thanks for anyones help, i need it.

switched back to stock ics from my recovery, installed the blaze radio, showed i had 4g, but had no bars. i called someone and after i called them it went back to edge. went to search for networks and all i can get is E again. under settings it shows im on edge 2....so im close but obvisously not close enough. i live in a major city here in iowa and i live a few blocks from a wireless tower...any ideas?

Flash a T-mo radio that gets you on the network, then look around and find the proper APN settings for your provider. You will have to go into the APN settings on your phone and create a new APN with those specific settings for it to work properly. I am not sure what those settings are for T-mo but you should be able to find them with the search feature.

so ive went back to the recovery, which the phone was set at before everything, flashed the radios of blaze and the uvle1 and it shows i have 4g but it bareley even runs. also each time i flash a new radio my apn settings are there, iwireless automatically downloads them to ur phone when u turn it on, and i verified the apn settings with another iwireless phone, an alcatel 995(4g phone). and now i can send a text message, the other phone receives it but the other phone doesnt receive mine. any other ideas? im going to try flahsing all the tmo radios to the phone and see what i can do. also is the radio and the modem the same thing? do i need to find a tmo modem and flash it on there and then a radio?

Modem and radio are same thing. Other than an APN issue I know of nothing else other than a #*number combination to enable lte settings. I am not sure what that combination is though as I live in a not-lte area and have not needed it. You may want to search the SkyJB thread as I think it was discussed at length in there. And I would try each and every one of the t-mo radios/modems as you might actually find one that works to enable 3g/4g in your particular area.

[Q] No Data After upgrade...

So I was recently having issues with my s3 running stock that it would turn talkback on every time i rebooted.
Naturally this made me really made so I decided to go FULL stock. back from the first stock odin package. (g1)
I had 3g after the process ended, so then I went and installed all the updates and my 3g worked through all of them....
However when I woke up this morning and went on my road trip to my dismay NONE of my mobile data worked no matter how I changed the settings (CDMA, GSM, ect).
Therefore during a few of the stops I went and flashed a custom recovery and rom. Still no data... Reflashed the f1 firmware... no data...
Then when I finally returned home I went and reset the phone through odin to the g1 again... and still NO DATA...
Please I could really use some help, I'm losing it and I have a big trip in 2 days and would REALLLY like this to be fixed

What does your imei read? Are you able to make phone calls?

I can make calls and receive texts fine it's just my data.

Pretty sure it's a hardware issue at this point.
Only thing I could possibly think of doing is opening your phone and tightening all the screws. Maybe it'll lock your antenna back in place.
Are you within a year of purchasing your phone? If you are it's still covered under your warranty.

Can you get wifi?
It could be that you don't have the correct APN selected if your problem is only the 3g &4g from VZW.
