[Q] Bizarre HTC One X Charging/USB problem!! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I'm hoping some of you wise heads on here might be able to help me out with a problem that has got me totally and utterly stumped!
Last week I was using my One X and noticed the battery was down to aorund 14%. I plugged it into a charger and nothing happened...no light...nothing. I tried various different chargers and cables to pc etc and nothing seemed to do anything.
After leaving the phone plugged into the mains for a few hours, I noticed that a very slow/long flashing red/amber light appeared. It kind of stays on for 5 seconds and then off for the same amount of time. I left the phone in this state for about 14 hours and when turning on it would say battery was somewhere between 0%, 1% and 2% and would promptly switch itself off.
I messed about for hours on end trying many different button combinations, sim in/out and came to this bizarre conclusion.........If I plug the phone into the mains for a few minutes, then press power and volume down to get to the HBOOT menu then hold power in again to reboot, the phone reboots into the OS and is functional. It still reads as having 0% or 1% battery and shows as not charging, but it must be getting some juice for it to be working. If I leave the phone in this state for a while I can then unhook it from the charger and use it as normal, even though battery is displaying as 0%. I can use the phone like this for some time, although the battery does not appear to last as long.
Also, the phone is not recognised at all by the PC when plug in via usb when in android os - nothing at all shows in device manager, but it is recognised from the fastboot menu and tries to install device drivers.
Has anybody got any clue if I can save my HOX or am I without a paddle?? Many thanks in advance

Is your phone completely Stock? or is it bootloader unlocked/rooted? I'm pretty positive this is a hardware issue, you can rule it out by RUUing if you're Stock. If you're not stock, you can still RUU but if you should S-OFF first.

Thanks for the quick repIy. I was hoping you weren't going to say a hardware issue :crying: The phone is totally stock and unrooted. This might be a stupid question, but if I RUU will I lose all the data on my phone? Also any idea which RUU to use? My HOX is an unlocked, unbranded version bought in the UK.

Sorry for the bad news, I would repost in the international one x forum as you have a different phone as us Quad core VS Dual core. I don't think the response will be much different but they should also have the proper RUU links for your phone. Good Luck.

Ok I'll do that. Thanks for the advice, it is greatly appreciated.

Hello there!
I have same issue, but when I flash a kernel. I flashed the AlexV 2.4 RC kernel and usb masstorage works again. BUT becuse I wipe battery status some times now if y boot the phone chargin, it sais that is chargin, but when I disconnect the cable still chargin
Anyway, I have HTC One X tegra 3 quadcore from argentina. And all this chargin issues is about the kernel/rom tweaks. If you boot on recovery and the phone charge ok (sho the led) and the mount of the sd on recovery works, its 100% rom/kernel problem.

[Q] PHONE is Dead, Not charging at ALL, No custom rom installed

Hey guys, i've done the search button and still can't find any answers. First of all, all i've done to my phone : S-off, superuser, root. No custom ROM installed. i did that 2days prior yesterday and it was working and charging fine. So yesterday when i was playing paradise island my phone died. I connected it to the USB wall charger and left my room. After 3-4hrs, my phone is still dead. So i thought maybe the USB or wall charger is not working. I tried using my cousin Mytouch wall charger with the htc USB, still doesnt work but using my wallcharger with the mytouch usb, my cousin's phone charges.
When i try to charge my phone, the amber light comes on but its flashing, then after 3 times, light will stop
Troubleshooting i've done
I've tried numerous times to go to HBOOT, nothing
Removed the battery several times, nothing
tried USB charging through my laptop nothing.
Any help guys??
Same issue!
Please help with this!!
CMW
If you search you'll find that there is a problem and after installing CMW Recovery most phones will not charge if they're off, so if you let your battery drain to the last you will be unable to charge your battery trought the phone, no solution at this moment for this
Work arounds
- Charge your battery on a wall charger directly not trought the phone
- Charge your battery on an stock untouched Sensation

Wallcharger, is there one i can purchase??
Is the battery itself the problem?? because t-mobile, will sent me a new battery. I've only had this phone for 3 weeks. IF the battery itself not the problem, they will send me a new phone but i'm assuming that i've going to have to send the old phone back, is there going to be an issue regarding the warranty when i send the old phone to them???
it's not the battery, it's the cmw what's the problem. You have an older version of cmw.
I see, where to get the latest CWM? There's a way to go back to stock right?
Now i kinda regret S-OFF,ROOt, CWM ...lol..-.- i know it's my fault tho...
Once you managed to boot the phone again, you can install rom manager, from there you can easily install the latest cmw.
i have the latest CMW Still doesn't charge when battery at 0%
You would think they would test CMW before releasing....

I used CWM 4.0.1.4. From what i know its suppose to fix the charging problem. As of right now, im trying to manually charge my battery by splitting on of my old USB cable +wall charger. So hopefully this will work.
None of the threads in the entire forum are even remotely helpful if you can't even get the phone to turn on.
I can't reflash the recovery - if there is no way for me to get into the bootloader.
A wall charger hasn't helped - nor my N1 battery taped in.
NOTHING.
Please stop jumping a million steps ahead to reflashing the recovery - start with HOW TO TURN THE PHONE ON - bearing in mind that NOTHING IN THE FORUM so far has worked.

I've been using my brothers G2 battery (which doesn't fit) to turn on my phone.
But since I don't have a universal charger, and my phone wont turn on (I tried EVERYTHING) than there is no point to attempt to get into recovery unless I'm going back to stock.
Tl;DR CWM Needs to fix there shhhhhheeeet.
I finally manage to turn on my fone by splitting my old usb cable...i know somone said, its dangerous but it work for me....so do it at your own risk....now im juz looking for a safe wayto revert to stock w/o cwm, root, super user....might keep S-off tho
Any suggestion
If u need to start you fone....get a spare usb cable...and split it..remove the battery from your fone. Now tape the red wire to positive and black to negative....attach the usb to ur wall charger.....then wait 10- 20 min. Now remove ur battery then insert it back to you phone and turn it on. Once it starts, connect it to ur htc usb+ wallcharger.... once again, someone said its dangerous....so make this your last resort

Yeah. That didn't work for me. After splitting two cables - I decided to cut my losses.
Unfortunately I'm not in the US - and that's where I bought the phone. I'm going to try and find and independent vendor and see if they have a battery I can buy.
If not - I am ROYALLY screwed.
Yeah the battery/cwm combo is ****ed. So angry.
Do you have the one with the blue text? It's supposed to fix these issues
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Sorry to revive this thread, but I am in the same boat. After trying to flash android on my brother's hd2, I noticed that the battery died. I cannot charge it since it has no ROM currently installed... Has there been a fix?

[Q] Bricked? Or just battery acting up?

Hi guys
I've had the Sensation for about 3months now, and suddently yesterday it stopped working. It wont charge, no LED's and wont start at all. There have not been any waterdamage, drops or rough use.
I've read a lot concerning similar problems on this forum, but none of the solutions has worked for me.
What I can tell is that I have tried after searching the forums:
- SDK, ADB and try to reboot the device via USB-connection (device not found)
- Win7 (32bit) can't recognise the phone (asking for drivers which are not found in HTC Sync, QHSUSB_DLOAD)
- Trying to enter recovery mode (Volume Down + Power up)
- Charge the battery overnight
- Charge the battery with a plastic-piece covering the two middle pins on the battery (As suggested in a thread)
- Battery out for 1min and then put it back in and start up
Neither of these worked, so are there any other good ideas? Or is it bricked?
Hi guys,
i have exactly the same problem, already have tried all of these solutions, nothing have worked for me... Please help.
PS:sometimes my screen lights up <black totally, but lights up>... when plugged into usb cable or charger... but not now anymore...
I have bought this phone in china, there is S/N but i guess that here in UK i cannot do anything about it since HTC's warranty is not global...

Also keep note of which recovery you are working off of. There have been charging issues with certain recoveries.
Yeah, I read several threads and posts about recovery-issues... Unfortuantly I cant check what version I got myself, as it wont start up at all :/

I would suggest to go to a store that sell's the Sensation and ask if you can test one of their batteries out to see if your phone has either a battery issue or something else. If you are stateside, of course try a tmobile store, but without knowing where you are located, this is a hypothetical at this point.
I know I had an issue with my Nexus1 not booting up from a kernel I had flashed. But I noticed my charging led was flashing three times and then stop. I researched this here on xda and found that it just needed to be put into recovery again somehow. I ended up just plugging the phone into the wall and remove the battery. Try to power it on there and then reinsert the battery and try the power + volume down button. That time it booted for me. But again, this was for my Nexus1 not with this phone.
same happened to me, sent to HTC and had main board replaced, lcd, flex cable etc. the driver the phone looks for is the equip HTC use to jtag... I am not sure if this is a hardware failure or boot corruption...but even though it was s-off via alpha rev it was that damaged they didnt complain... i say hardware failure. the thing is even when i have s-off i didnt change the rom. I have a riff box on order so if this happens again we can surely see if this failure is software or hardware..
Yeah, do what kpjimmy said; go to a store where Sensation's are sold and ask if you could use a battery to test it out to see if it's bricked. It it's not, you'll need a new battery (try getting one for free from HTC, citing warranty. I did it with my battery cover). If it doesn't work, you're mostly likely bricked, unfortunately. Refer to anarchy's post for more info on that side of things
Same problem here yesterday.. can't charge. But phone heat. I just pull out battery, n put back.keep repeated that. Finally can on. U use custom kernal?

Weird Intermittent Brick; Completely Dead For Long Periods

Hoping someone can help, haven't found any threads about this particular problem.
I bought a used "One X" that was totally stock and seemed to work OK. I rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, and got S-off. I then installed the newest version of Viper XL. Everything worked fine for a while but after a couple days I went to use it and it was totally dead. Battery was half charged a minute before and now nothing. Plugged it into a wall charger and USB and got nothing, not even an orange light. After trying to reboot and hard reboot it for 20 minutes I quit and just plugged it in and left it.
Checked it a few hours later and it was still the same but just for fun I tried a hard reboot again and it launched right away. It worked with no problems for another day and then same thing. When I got it restarted this time I downloaded and ran the latest RUU exe file to eliminate any problems the Roms might be causing, but no, just happened again today and was hours before I got it restarted, this time just by holding the power button.
Any ideas? All help appreciated.
Its somewhat of a known problem, but unfortunately an unknown cause, and I haven't seen any real solutions. Battery drops suddenly, no LED light, but charging for several hours brings it back. Usually happens at night, for some reason. But yours seems much more frequent than other cases I've heard. I've maybe only had this happen twice in the year+ I've had this phone. If this keeps happening every day, or close to that, its obviously a big problem.

One extra detail I left out. The phone seems to be truly off, as when I get it restarted it doesn't appear the battery was drained at all. It's basically a brick that randomly decides to come back to life. Even if I only leave it plugged in for 15 minutes and then unplug it and try restarting again, it basically comes to life with a full battery.
Strange. Maybe related to the issue I mentioned, maybe something different.
Since you ran the latest RUU, don't think there is much else that can be done. Might be a hardware issue. I would tell the seller and see how they respond. They will probably swear they didn't have the issue. But it doesn't hurt to bring it up.
My problem is little different but almost same.

Put the phone on the wall charger (not connected to your computer) for several hours (overnight) and see if there is any change.
Not sure if it's the same problem, but I had something similar happen a couple days ago while on CM 10.2 nightly:
Sudden power drop
I threw a couple logs in there, just in case they were useful.

Try the bootloader button combination. Then try it while connected to the wall charger. Similarly, just try booting normally while connected to the charger. It makes no sense, but I've seen at least one guy where this worked (bootloader button combo while connected to charger), when nothing else would make the phone boot.
Other than that, its not looking good. No LEDS, and the phone can't be read by the computer, you're pretty done. Odd that just connected to USB did this. Maybe some hardware failure related to the USB port?

Yeah even i can't digest the fact that making my phone S-off installing CM 10.2 didnt do any bad but a connection to USB killed my phone

Completely dead, unresponsive phone

Hey guys,
I can't believe what happened to my phone. It was working perfectly up until a few hours ago.
I tried flashing ElementalX v8 which I have been running for months with no issues, as I wanted to change some of the settings. After the flash, it showed it was successful, but there was also another line similar to "E: cannot mount partition". Can't remember exactly. I went to wipe cache and dalvic manually as I always do, then saw a few more lines that looked similar to that, then after tapping Reboot the System, my phone powered off and hasn't worked since. The battery was at 21% and plugged in at the time, which I suppose is risky, but i've never had a prob before. I flash ROMs. radios and kernels a lot.
My phone will literally not do anything at all right now. The LED isn't even on while it's plugged in to it's wall charger, it won't vibrate, flash anything on the screen. Absolutely nothing
I have tried holding power button for up to a minute while plugged in and unplugged, and also, held volume down and power for up to a minute while plugged in and unplugged.
When I connect it to my PC, it shows a device with a driver error "qhsusb_dload". From my research, it seems that I will need to send it for JTAG service or try the steps in the "unbrick evita" thread, which I will, after leaving it plugged in overnight.
I would like to know:
Can I resolve this by purchasing a used Logic board, either from the AT&T or International version?
Can a replacement battery resolve this? A friend has the same phone with a broken LCD that he's scrapping
Is there any possibility it will start working again if it was just left plugged in for hours?
I am in Jamaica and this is a really sticky situation for me. I can't even get a phone out here to use a MicroSIM :-/
I'd appreciate any help at all. Thanks
Firstly, it is the HTC One X (Endeavoru) or the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita)? Where did you download the kernel?
I think you are one of the very rare and unlucky people whose phone has bricked for no apparent reason. A battery will not fix it because your partitions are screwed. The only options you have see these:
1. Leave the phone connected to a charger overnight (or at least eight hours) and try to power it on again. This option only has a very slim chance of working.
2. Replace the motherboard.
3. Jtag repair.

Thank you for the reply.
I have the AT&T One X 16GB Model. The Kernel I has was from these forums as well, which I used numerous times before. I just wanted to flas it again to change the settings so the kernel file itself has been on my phone for quite a while now.
Is this the only part i'll need to get?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATT-HTC-One...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4d1859d891
I will still attempt the guides here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966850 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226445
That looks like the right part to be, except that it's a 32gb model, which I don't think would be a problem. It's definitely worth trying this unbricking methods, but successful attempts are pretty rare. I think you're about the third person I've seen brick after flashing the Elemental kernel.

Its not a battery issue. As timmaaa mentioned, something went wrong with the flash (as it has happened to a couple others). JTAG is probably your best bet, or replacing the board.
This probably wont help but I had a bad flash of twrp not long ago. Flashed the recovery and the phone died on reboot. I hooked it up to the computer and i got "qhsusb_dload" in device manager. I thought it was bricked for sure. Anyway while i was trying different things, I held the power button on for a long time and it started up again. It didn't have a recovery but i flashed 2.6.3 again and it has been fine ever since. Thinking that i was one of the lucky ones though. I guess you have already tried that though.

Hi. When you said died on reboot, do you mean you chose the option for it to reboot then it never turned back on? Mine is literally and totally dead. It does absolutely nothing and when it's plugged in to my PC it shows "qhsusb_dload"
How long did you hold the power button? I've held mine for about 3 minutes now.

It was less that 3 minutes. I flashed the recovery in fastboot, rebooted and it didn't start. No led when plugged into the charger. Showed "qhsusb_dload" in the my computer's device manager. It was just dead. It was the right recovery for the phone, just the modified 2.6.3 version for 4.4.2 roms. After I got it going again, I flashed the normal version. I have since flashed the modified one again and it was fine. I don't really know why it happened.

I'm sorry to have to post another one about reboot loop but I cannot make any sense out of what's posted before me, or at least in my situation. So here you go :
I got my brand new phone 4 days ago
updated to 4.4.4
installed my usual apps (nothing dodgy)
Nothing else. All worked fine
Last night I leave my phone in plane mode and charged at 70%.
This morning ... I press the power button once as usual and find my phone totally discharged
So plug the original charger and...
it goes in non stop reboot loop
(sometimes I see like "battery discharged" in red for a split second)
not taking any charge : I leave it like this for an hour connected to OPO charger but not green LED and same problem
I tried all the power down + power tricks withouth success, probably because the battery is at 0%.
I don't even believe I can achieve anything via a PC console for the exact same reason ...
If nothing else I'll have to file an RMA.
Please let me have your honest opinion...
Thanks in advance for your time and support

Leave it plugged in for an entire day, don't touch it during that time, then try again.

Yeah happened to me too when it got completely discharged. Just leave it for a while and try putting it in recovery so it doesn't vibrate all the time.

I'm currently doing this, but no green led and charger remains cold ... I think the battery is not charging.
Verdic later today... thanks

I could only manage to stop the reboot loop AND be connected to the charger by hitting (Power + Vol UP). But of course there is nothing on screen.
So I just left it like this since last night and for the whole day today, following the previous advice posted here.
Thanks
PS :I filed a ticket with One Plus AND a claim with Paypal. This is totally abnormal

Have you connected it to a PC yet? See what it shows up as (if anything) in Device Manager.

Hi Timmaaa,
I tried this of course and the opo screen shows a red message for a second: "battery too low (0%) to communicate via USB" or something like this.
Hence my post, actually...
Thanks
