For those who unlocked & went to TMobile - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I do not know if this is allowed and if it is not sorry but it is not a best of thread. I have been having trouble getting good speeds since the switch and have tried numerous combinations but get crappy speeds like .11 mbs down and .12 up
I was wondering what works for you and what speeds are you getting.
Like I said this is by no means a best of thread I just thought this would help others like me who are having trouble getting good speeds on our phones.
Any downloads to the radios not listed in the radios thread would be appreciated.
And if this thread is off limits I am sorry. Just thought I would help us newbies out!!!!!!
Thank you
Jeff

What gives me a little pause here is that those settings and radio combinations will yield different results based on where you are located. Do you know anyone in your area with an HSPA+ phone who can run speed tests to compare your speeds against? It could just be that you're in an area with bad backhaul.

two important bits of info are missing what network type is your phone connected with (g e 3g h h+), and what radio are you using?

A good first step is to find some friend with a good t mobile hasp+ phone (like galaxy s2 T-Mobile or galaxy nexus for instance) ...See what speeds they're getting on T-Mobile data...If they're not getting good speeds on their phones, you'll never get good speeds obviously...Remember you're using a phone which was made to be used with AT&T....And from my observation most of those who use the SR with T-Mobile they get similar issues like the ones you're describing , t-mobile switched to the 1900mhz spectrum in some areas that would probably help a little, but obviously that's not something that you can do anything about...
If you really need tmobile service, it's best to trade your SR with a tmobile galaxy s2 , at least that I would do if I was in your situation,I don't like buggy phones or services...

It's a long thread but covers this issue pretty well. As far as I can tell there is no hardware-based reason a Skyrocket can't work on Tmobile as well as a dedicated tmobile S2.
I have been using a skyrocket on tmobile for a few months. I couldn't get better than 2G speed until I flashed a new radio and twiddled the apn settings. I get pretty consistent 4G now.

This is what I get using T769UVLH5 radio from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
Be sure to thank him:good:

I know you're getting different answers here but if you took an at & t skyrocket it means you have bands 850/1900Mhz for 3g ( don't even think about 4g lte at this point) while tmobl works on 900/1700/2100 3g bands. This means your phone is physically not capable of locking on those bands because it doesn't have them. All it's probably doing is sticking to the old EDGE network since it is a quad band edge.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

I do not believe that is the case. The skyrocket radio software limits the available bands. Loading a tmobile radio enables the required frequencies.

From what I've gathered the skyrocket has the same radios as the Hercules, it just has the added lte hardware. I am on 4.2.2 slim using the le1 radio. Still get random no signal dropouts but not as bad as the others. Think my ril and csc files are wrong so it looks like I have to flash a stock ROM to get them back. Anyone using a stock Hercules ROM?

I don't think our channel can do dual channel h+ where the T989 can.
for the others our phone has a penta-band radio it is physically cappable of talking to t-mobile on it's 3g,h,h+ networks just not with the att or rogers radios.

[Q] Samsung Vibrant 4G SPECIFICATIONS

I know the original vibrant was a pentaband phone, supporting AT&T's 850/1900 networks as well as t-mobiles 3g networks....
Can anyone confirm the 3g bands on the new Vibrant 4g?
Will there be fast 3g 21mbps for 850/1900 on the modem chip also? ( or 4g whatever you want to call it, in my book its just faster 3g..)
someone enter the debug screen and check which bands are available...
cheers!

HSPA+ 21 only works with T-mobile, AT&T doesn't use an AWS band, in this case is 1700/2100Mhz.
Someone may have been able to 'trick' the vibrant into using a basic UMTS band on AT&T, but I never heard of it, let alone heard that the Vibrant supported AT&T 3G. The Vibrant has GSM.support for them (2G), I haven't seen anything else.
Where's the supporting documents that people have been getting At&t 3G with a T-Mobile Vibrant?

Trust me.... I'm using a vibrant on at&t with 3g. It does support the wcdma 1900 band. There is alot of evidence of this...heck engadget made a post about this... google it!

That would work....hopefully the galaxy s 4g can be unlocked the same way the previous galaxy s phones could.
In my research I have found that 4G is not backwards compatable with 3G. Someware I read that companys are putting 3G and 4G chips on the new 4G phones to bridge the gap between the 3G chip ability to handle voice and the 4G chip being able to handle data. I can't say for sure if SGS4G has both chips. It's a know issue that the 3G SGS misses calls when connected to a laptop because It does not handle data well in combination with voice. That's why I upgraded to the 4G. I don't think Its going to make a lot of difference until TM gets their HW in place with a backbone that can support it.
Samsung Galaxy S 4G 1900 MHz WCDMA
I bought my Samsung Galaxy S 4G at a T-Mobile store in San Francisco. I subsequently upgraded it to the latest firmware provided by T-Mobile using Samsung Kies.
I usually use WCDMA only mode because GSM causes awful buzzing sound when I use it in my car (I have a FM transmitter connected to my phone).
Anyways, I was curious to see if I'd see AT&T, so I searched for network (still under WCDMA Only mode), and it found both AT&T and T-Mobile.
I pressed *#197328640# in the dialer, and then went to the debug screen/band selection to look at available bands, and it actually does have 1900 WCDMA.
It shows
GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900, WCDMA 2100 (FDD I), WCDMA 1700 (FDD IV), WCDMA 1900(FDD II).
I don't know if AT&T SIM would work since my phone is locked but I can report back once I get it unlocked.
EDIT: Reading an old post of mine, I realized that my memory played a bad trick on me. My tests DID work on 1900 WCDMA and DID NOT work on 850 WCDMA, just opposite to what I wrote earlier in this post. --sorry

I don't think it would work. For reference, here is a side by side band comparison between my Vibrant (tested 3G on AT&T) and my coworker's SGS 4G (locked, untested).
The essential band here is the 850 1900 WCDMA, but the "overflow" 850 WCDMA is missing and I couldn't make it work anyways (I'm in Houston, maybe it is not switched on here).
My understanding is that AT&T usually uses 1900MHz for 3G, and in certain cities where they don't have enough bandwidth in 1900 MHz like NYC and SF, they use 850MHz.. so you could still get by with only 1900 MHz, no?

Yep, thats what I have heard as well. Now one thing of note. When I tested my Vibe, it only worked on the 850 1900 WCDMA band. Could not make it work on the 850 no matter how hard I tried. I'm in Houston for that matter and maybe this 850 WCDMA is not enabled here.

I'm currently unlocked on AT&T and i'm on 3G. I ALWAYS have an issue with upload speeds, but otherwise download speeds are just fine.
I attached four photos, of the available bands with my CURRENT galaxy S 4G unlocked on AT&T.
Also, a speed test I ran. That download speed is WAY higher than average because it was taken when the network was under the lightest usage possible, late at night.
Oh wow, over 5Mbps download on AT&T?
Are you on AT&T's 4G (HSPA+) or 3G?
I'm supposedly on T-Mobile 4G (my phone shows 4G when I download/upload), but I don't ever get 5Mbps. I get usually something around 2~3Mbps down and 1Mbps upload. I'm in the Bay Area.
I went into phone debug page, and one of the screens says HSDPA[0], HSUPA[0]. It also says network status: HSDPA (sorry I don't have the exact info on me right now).
Am I really just on HSDPA, not HSPA+? Is there a definite way to find out what my phone is using? Thank you.

Technically I'm on HSPA+, though this phone doesn't even cover all of the "necessary" bands.
Look, to edit what bands you're on go into the market and download SGS Tools.
Then, go into the first line (Secret Codes) and hit Band Selection.
I'm on AT&T so I'm not sure what bands you need, but you can manually select them in there.
To check the band you're on, go to GSM Status in the "Secret Codes" page again.

Oh I know I'm on 1700/2100 MHz because that's the only frequency (AWS) that T-Mobile uses for WCDMA/UMTS/4G/3G.
I downloaded Phono, and it says Network Type is HSDPA. Shouldn't it say HSPA+? I'm just wondering if there's an easy way to tell if I'm really on 4G (aka HSPA+) as opposed to 3G.
I actually messed around with debug settings last night so I'm worried that I screwed it up....
Thank you!

Which debug settings did you change?
And as for Phono (which I've never even heard of/used until now), my phone says HSDPA as well, which, quite frankly, makes no sense. I guess you can technically get speeds of around 5MBPS on HSDPA but it's not typical.
You should easily be able to tell whether you're on HSDPA or HSPA+ with the 4G/3G connectivity icon. in your status bar.
Now, I'm no expert, but hopefully that answers your question.
I played around with GCF settings. When I go into debug mode, there was something about choosing Rel.6 or Rel.5 or cancel settings.. And then also, if you do *#3214789#, you can enable/disable GCF Mode.. which I have no idea what it is about....
Thanks!

[Q] galaxy s2 i9100 radio on galaxy s2 skyrocket

I understand how to flash radios and roms, not so much of a noob. but maybe this is a noob question. I have brought a att locked phone, I unlocked it. I live in the dominican republic and i have a plan(contract) with the orange phone company here. I wanted to flash the i9100 radio/modem hopefully to be able to get 3g here. if someone have insight on my situation please let me know

im just wondering, why did u get a skyrocket to unlock instead of just getting the international unlocked sgs2 i9100?
Definitely do not flash an i9100 radio on the skyrocket.
You might want to try flashing a Rogers based rom and/or flashing the Rogers radio found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384865
Most of the Skyrocket radios are RAT locked, meaning you can't change it by dialing *#2263#. The Rogers one should work for you I think (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong... )
I brought the phone on craigslist and i read about the power and beauty of the phone and i fell in love with it, didnt forsee this problem. thought the minute i unlocked it i would get the data speeds minus the lte. i was wrong
flash the blaze 4G radio, i swear that uses the 900 frequency, or any other t989 radio for that matter. Most of those are RAT unlocked as well. Don't stress too much, the skyrocket has a penta-band radio that would do any world/touring phone proud
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
Those are the frequencies that are used for the sblaze and the t989. seems like i have no luck because i need it 900 for 3g. guess 2g is going to eventually kill me one day. thanks everyone who contributed to my search for answers. I appreciate it'

Anyone using Vodafone? Radio question

Currently on 4.0.4 UCLE2 using Blaze 4g on T-mobile.
Will be heading to Italy soon and want to know if anyone is using the Skyrocket over there and their setup for data.
Oh, and where did the "search" bar go? Swear it was there yesterday but not there today.
how fast is your data on t-mobile SIM and blaze 4g radio ?
I'm seeing on average 3mbps down, and a measly 200kbps up. I would be concerned but I'll be back on Vodafone soon and will save my effort for that network.
it depends on the Italian network frequencies... the skyrocket natively supports 850 1900 and 2100 HSDPA frequencies

T-mobile 4G LTE on Unlocked i727 when available?

Ok well i know that it is possible to get T-Mo's "4g" HSPA+ on this device. However, i have not found a clear answer as to when t mobiles 46 lte launches, will an unlocked at&t i727 be able to work on this t-mobile 4g lte. I am stuck between whether i should buy the t989 or an unlocked i727 and use either one on t mobile and this may affect my decison.
Thanks.
I never heard before about "T Mobile LTE !!!" ... T mobile is using HSPA 42 in its best markets ... If you're in a good coverage area from T mobile or you only want to use it , I would say just buy the T mobile S2 and be done with it ... At&t SR even if unlocked and T mobile radio installed in it would not have the full speed for T mobile or aka 4G (may get 3 or 4 mbps DL max) ........
This thread is relevant to my interests. T-mobile LTE will be Band 4, so does that mean the i727 won't work? Or does it have that band and they just aren't advertised? ATT does have some Band 4 holdings, so it's reasonable that they would want the i727 to work on LTE in those areas too.
If you get into Service Mode (*#2263#) and look at LTE bands, it's shown there. Don't know if it means that the phone is able to work with it, but might be.

FYI - This only works on Touchwiz ROMs.
if and when tmobile launches lte a t989 won't be able to use it anyway, no lte radio, the fastest that phone will ever achieve is h+ (fake 4g) speeds.
an unlocked skyrocket will allow lte usage, on bands 700 and 1700, so with the correct radio (i757m modem from bell) u SHOULD be able to access it

an unlocked skyrocket MAY allow lte usage, depending on the lte band they use. It'll probably be 1700 AWS though, which is an lte band I don't believe the skyrocket supports, only 700.

I thought the reason AT&T included the 1700 AWS band was b/c they were planning on turning that spectrum into LTE if the acquisition was successful. If so, wouldn't that mean that the 1700 band on the Skyrocket would support LTE Band 4?

was under the impression 1700 for skyrocket was only for hspa, read it somewhere, I stand corrected
Just saw this very recently:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119406
If I'm not mistaken, the Note has the exact same radio setup as the Skyrocket (AWS and 700Mhz LTE). So, it's looking promising for our phones to work on LTE, too.
Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone got the unlocked i727 to successfully lock onto the T-mobile LTE network. I believe I read somewhere that someone had done it successfully but wanted to confirm since T-mobile has refarmed most areas by this time.

Not true. I did it ... get 12 mpbs DL regularly on 4G. You'll need to try different radios but it's very possible.

Yes..I'm sorry...I didn't know that at the time I replied..They have LTE and ironically we skyrocket owners can access it and the T-Mobile s2 owners are left being lol...

Investigation: The mysterious 850 MHz band

I want to figure this out once and for all.
What services does this phone support on the 850 MHz band?
The big question is whether UMTS/HSPA works. NYC area has amazing 850 band coverage on AT&T.
If I were to put a prepaid AT&T SIM in my phone, set my phone to only operate on the 850 MHz band, and set the proper APNs (necessary for 3G?); would I be able to get data beyond EDGE?
Only one way to find out...
There's no mystery to it if you read through the [GUIDE] Set up Verizon Galaxy S3 as World GSM Phone (confirmed working) thread and the [BOUNTY] ($205 so far) Enable HSPA+ on 1900 MHz / 1700MHz for VZW Galaxy S3 i535 threads completely....
With the radio software verizon has on the phone, the galaxy s3 is quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and single band WCDMA (2100).
We don't know if it has the hardware for WCDMA 850/900/1900 and until now, nobody has successfully flashed a different radio due to the bootloader lock. Keep an eye on the "enable WCDMA 1700/1900" thread for updates.
And just to answer another question that you might have, when my S3 was rooted and set up to work in Germany, I tried both T-Mobile and AT&T sim cards here in town. The problem with the S3 is that even if you try to select a different WCDMA band in the field test menu, the radio firmware will not allow you to change it from 2100. So in an area with T-Mobile PCS (1900) and AT&T PCS/CELLULAR (1900/850) WCDMA, each test I tried only ran on EDGE.

Wow... That really sucks.
So, there's literally no way to get 3G outside of Verizon aside from MetroPCS EVDO?

The first step is to experiment with different radio files, as one user in the 1700/1900 thread wants to do, but we need to get the secure-boot/bootloader unlocked so those files can be written.
Phones like the Rezound had the hardware for Quad-band WCDMA (3g), but took a radio file flash to make it work. The reason there is a bounty is because we -think- the Verizon S3 has the hardware, it will just take some work to get the software on the phone to talk to that hardware.
I know. I've been following the thread.
Was a little unsure of the details regarding frequencies.
As far as I understand, they're at a dead end. They need JTAG/UART to continue without worrying about bricks.

Yeah, and sadly, I lack the skills and the bounty probably isn't enough to attract a dev with JTAG and a phone to fiddle with to solve our issue
Verizon cdma is ran by nortel dual urban base stations the frequencies are 810-910 and 1840-2000mhz. The LTE is 690-760mhz 1x means that your on 850. 3g means your on 1900 or 850 depending on how far away from the site you are, and 4g means your on LTE. The LTE base station is ericsson but speeds will vary depending on whether or not the site is on fiber or T1 transport. Normally they keep the pre pay customers on the nortel dual urban... Oh by the way we are starting to decommission the lucent cdma on metro pcs sites and convert them to t-mobile GSM but luckily metro uses ericsson for LTE too so there's hope.
