Yeah, this has already been discussed. All you have to do is dial *#*#4636*#*# and then choose device information and select your preferred network mode. They didn't rat lock this modem which is surprising.

They did as is evidence by dialing *#2263#
Also I have found *#*#4636*#*# not to stick after exiting the screen (could have been just me or a mistake I made)
Edit: seems my *#*#4636*#*# stuck until reboot. Nevermind then. I am still looking to see if I can get this crap to stick on reboot
The method I outlined sticks until reboot. And rat is unlocked until reboot. (Im looking at other options to write the modem so it sticks on reboot, but im blindly playing with it mostly)

Can you set to WCDMA preferred?

Issues w/ Preferred Network Type
Sometimes but not always, when i set it to a particular preference, it doesn't stick. Sometimes i do WCDMA only but 1 minute later, i go back in and it's reverted back to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) default....Anyone having this issue?
There is a different menu that controls the radio on the NS.
I am not sure how you get to it through the dialer.
Download Anycut from the market.
In Anycut Add a new shortcut to "testing" which is under "activity".
Open "testing" and you should be able to to elect the band type. this one does stick
Done.
Testing just brings you to the wireless/networks screen which only has lock to 2g
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
WCDMA only = 3G. Using a shortcut to Testing instead of *#*#4636#*#* did stick after rebooting. Thanks for the tip clubtech.
whats the difference between:
GSM auto and GSM/CDMA auto? Shouldn't we just have it on GSM since tmobile doesn't have cdma?

Phone info. In Anycut there is also a shortcut for it. Look in Activities / Phone info.
Anycut works for me...but I noticed that with WCDMA only, sometimes I do get 3G on top, but the bars go from green to grey. I end up reverting to default GSM/CDMA.
If you call *#*#4636#*#*
And go to the Phone Information ...
Can you set the preferred network type to WCDMA preferred?
Because, I cant ...
As soon as I set to WCDMA preferred, closed, and re-check, it will be back to GSM/CDMA auto PRL
Both modes are more or less the same, but auto PRL will prefer EDGA on low signal.

Yes it can. I noticed the same issue when I first got the phone but now on custom rom it stays on the wcdma preferred but still resets after a reboot. Wcdma only stays after reboot.
Ah, you use custom ROM.
But, I am using stock ROM ...

Hey are you still on CM7Alpha2? Coz I am using this and mine can't set to WCDMA preferred permanently, it still reverts to the PRL.
Can't get it to stick on mine either. Stock rooted phone. Tried using anycut as someone else recommended, still won't stick.

Same here, preferred won't stick, so I just changed it to WCDMA only. You have to reenter your SMSC number after that though.

I tried to edit the build.prop as discussed in other threads

but ro.telephony.default_network wasn't in my build.prop and adding it as a line didn't seem to do anything for me, at least it didn't help with the dropdown in the phone information screen.

Same problem here.........
Did you get any issue updating SMSC?
I spent some times this morning because I accidently changed the SMSC via *#*#4636#*#*
And I could not change it back!
Every time, I got error "Update Error".
No matter what I put there:
+3112345678
+31 12345678
003112345678
3112345678
At the end, I used my old Windows Mobile, and changed the SMSC there.
It works

The number to enter there is not the phone number. Its a modified version of it, I had to load another sim card fro the same operator and refresh then copy down the number to update it back to my sim card!
Yeah, and that's the problem. In Windows Mobile, I just enter the phone number of the SMSC.
SMSC is usually a phone number.
I checked with my provider (Vodafone NL) and it is a phone number.
If it is not on Android, then I don't know what it is
I read on Nokia (Symbian), the SMSC can be entered as phone number as well.
Probably Android is not using standard format for SMSC? At least on the user interface (to update).

3G fix for Thunderbolt

LTE is back online, please follow steps at the bottom of this post to get everything back in order.
*If you are in a 4G area it is advisable to make sure you switch to eHRPD to avoid bad hand offs between 4G and 3G as well as allowing simultaneous voice without hiccups. I noticed my GPS was not working last night so it is possible eHRPD settings will affect your gps or it could have just been due to the network issues.
As most are aware both the LTE network and eHPRD are down (a special version of 3G for the Thunderbolt only). To get 3G data back you just need to change your settings back to the normal 3G network. Here are the steps:
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose enable and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”
Restart your phone and you should see 3G is working
last step (may not be necessary)
dial *#*#4636#*#* go to phone info, then set preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL)
I hope this helps anyone that is left in the dark by this outage.
If you are running a non-stock dialer or a rom that included a dialer it may prevent you from entering settings. Flash this zip to go back to stock dialer
http://www.mediafire.com/?9yf09ri4t2mip4z
For those that want instructions for after LTE is back on
These 2 steps will put you back on LTE and then put you back on the correct 3G for the Thunderbolt, when its back up.
dial *#*#4636#*#* to get LTE, go to phone info, set preferred network type to CDMA + LTE EvDo auto
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose eHRPD and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”

Isn't this selected by default? I changed it to "enabled" let it reboot, and 3G is back on.
By default we are setup for the eHPRD 3G network on the Thunderbolt because it allows faster switching between 4G and 3G. Since both network features are down you have to switch your settings to the 3G network used by all other Verizon phones.

yea but in your instructions you said select eHPRD, which is already selected.
Yes enable, sorry I was too fast in typing out my instructions and goofed
one more step guys, if you are on auto cdma/lte settings, you might have to go in to
*#*#4636#*#* and select phone info and then select EVDO only to get 3g under preffered network settings.
It would be nice if you could add this to OP wakestrong. I think people in 4g area have cdma/lte auto option enabled so in the phone settings the phone is still trying to pick up the older cdma.
So this has worked for everyone? I tried this earlier with no luck and just did it again with no luck either :/

No 3G/4G -

It seems that through flashing CM10 I somehow messed up my data connection, i am not back on a stock image and only receiving 1x speeds even tho i have 4G here at work every single day since i have received my phone.
Anyone think they could help?
Also, my Network is set as "Unknown" I do not have an ERI version, and my PRL is set to 0. I have a MEID and an IMEI tho.
Have you tried using the app "phone info" to change the network you are on LTE/CDMA/evdo or CDMA auto(PRL) , since it sounds like your IMEI is still there

Have you done the workaround?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29874815&postcount=1
1. Go into system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks -> CDMA Subscription. Change to NV.
2. Hit back button and then click airplane mode button on the menu. Wait for the connection disappear. Then uncheck airplane mode and wait for it to come back and give you an empty triangle for a connection
3. Go back to system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks -> CDMA Subscription. and change to RUIM. Repeat step 2 except you should actually have 3g or 4g now, depending on the build.

Hidden Service Menu

If you dial this code number *#197328640# into your phone dial pad you can get to a hidden service menu. (note: use the lower left button to go back each time you select something, otherwise you have to dial the whole number again.)
On my International SGS3 (GT-i9300) I can go in here and select different data frequencies by going to UMTS -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Control -> Band Selection. There is other data as well, though this AT&T one seems to have less info in there.
*you are at your own risk if you play around and change things in these menus!*
What does different frequencies do?

Force LTE only

Does anyone of you know the secret code to dial in the dialer to access the network settings. I remember using it once in my old android device and theres is an option for LTE only. In the setting the option is LTE/WCDMA/GSM therefore I can not force LTE only
Dial *#2263# and then click band selection then LTE then LTE all when you want to change back just click band selection then automatic

2 ways to do this.
1. Root your phone and install Advance Signal Status in playstore. Once installed, open the app > go to Additional Info > Device Information > and look for Set Preferred Network Type dropdownlist. You can choose LTE from there.
2. You need Root + Xposed Framework. After installing Xposed, Download Intelli3g module and from there, you can toggle Fast And Slow Network Mode. Just be sure one of them is set to LTE only.

So Im going to bump this due to the fact i had ran into this problem exactly. I bought my s6 edge out right from the only store that would do that at the time which was wind mobile. wind your supposed to get 4g max is what the icon says but after using the Advance Signal Status apk with being rooted and all that showed to be working was 2g/3g everything else was n/a. **** you wind your a horrible company. Anyways after millions of dropped and echo filled calls that didnt drop or the turtle like so called high speed internet. i went to telus got a sim card and a plan and put in the sim card and i get a 3 g signal and the apk shows the same thing. i called tech support and this guy went above and beyond the usual script those idiots read over and over when they dont know what they actually do there. at the end of the call he says im sorry my coworker is saying if it was from wind you wont get lte on that phone with us. i had no way to choose lte through my phone settings and it was driving me crazy. so after a little research and a little playing around with the band selection by going *2263# first selection in the list. i tried going straight to lte only and it went over switched from 3g to 4g+ aka lte also verified by the advance signal status the only **** active was the lte section... so i thought yes i did it so i try a call and wtf immediately the phone would end the call every time and incoming went to voicmail every time. so i then started to try the different lte combos and to save someone time i ended up with the lte+cdma(prl) and after that it stayed with lte band and the phone calls work.
just because some tech support told you you cant run some sim cards on some phones unlocked or not because of frequency's of the carrier, but thats noy true and i proved that to my self today. have some patients and make sure you have a back up ready and waiting just in case at all times ive learned the hard way too many times saying this flash is a quickie im good lol nooope ...anyways i will also be getting a wind sim to work on the s4 wind says it cant be done but i say other wise i will post my findings on the appropriate pages.
i hope this helps some people
