SGH-i497 ROM compatibility? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see that there are plenty of ROMs available for the P51xx's, and since the P51xx's and the 497's are both Galaxy Tab 2's, would it be possible, just to use the build.prop of the P51xx's on a 497's rom?

I know of none, the Tmobile one would be close, but you would still run into a few problems. Just keep checking back... Sooner or later some developer will come along and conquer the last hurdle....

Can you post your i497 build.prop?

I dumped the rom

And my CWM backup

I reset everything before making the backup.....

If you want something else, then let me know how I can get it for you. If I have to reset my device back to stock again, it isn't a problem because the CWM backup worked perfect...

He was asking for your build.prop file. You can find it in /system.

No. There are more differences between the Verizon tab and the gtab then you think.

I did once using google talk And another app I downloaded from the store, but it was so bad I could barely make out what the other person was saying (Speaker on back and it isn't really loud) So I just dropped the idea as not bearable,

The Canadian SGH-i497 (ROM appears on sammobile but I cannot find reference to a Canadian Tab2) may support phone calls and sms messaging. I downloaded the Odin ROM from here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=20711
And checked inside and it seems to have the proper files. Since the i497 has practically no support on XDA I have been reluctant to install it. But recently another member posted the ATT 4.1.2 so I was thinking of giving it a try in the near future.
Canadian version is listed on Samsung of Canada but that is about it. No info is given. Why would they release a ROM for a tablet that just doesn't seem to exist?

I too have one of these things...Really want to Root it and install other ROM's....Found Cyanogenmod for p5100 but also reluctant to try it as it is not the SGH-I497...but it's so slow and laggy, I just am dying to at least give it a try, as long as I can back up current firmware....just need to research on how to do just that first...

I have a I497 as well but it is for Digicel Jamaica, anyone knows if the AT&T or Canadian 4.1.2 Rom would work on it? I'm thinking they should all be compatible since they are all sgh-I497.

AT&T gave us one for signing up for their cable service. sad to know that no custom roms available.
was able to get it rooted. was going to be a fancy toy anyways. amazing how under-powered this thing is.

I just wound up selling mine, wasn't worth it. If I remember right there was a Rom, but it was only a stock one that had the AT&T junk removed.

Are there still no roms for this model of tablet?

Rooting and ROM upgrade question

Noob question: If I root my stock AT&T Captivate, will I need to un-root to upgrade to the final Froyo ROM when it is released?
Thanks...
You should be able to update just fine if you are rooted. I was rooted and had no problem updating OTA ATTs last update. That being said, consider the cognition ROM if you want to get the best system with the least amount of work.
Is it possible to disable OTA updates from ATT if you have a custom ROM and don't want to risk getting things screwed up?

The OTA isnt automatic. It will notify you if there is an update, but not automatically install it for you
rooting is simply just adding files to your system. No stock files are deleted. You should be able to OTA just fine while rooted and nothing else.

I had no problems doing the ota while I was rooted, lag fixed and partial bloatware removed. However on my new captivate the ota failed so I updated using kies mini and it was like I did a factory reset and I had to do a factory reset because my ext system was there but one click root didn't recognize its and said I didn't have enough space for fix.after reset I had no problems.

If you mess with the rom, you will have issues with any phone with any ota update.

Hi I am trying to help my friends with a phone that they are going to buy. I only know that it is a Nokia E71. I need to know if they can root it or jailbreak it. I need to know which one. Can they tether with it? Thank you. I had to Google the question and it took me here. Hopefully I can find my way back to this part of the forum!
GSM phones
I don't know if there are any GSM phones listed on this site. I entered in the Nokia E71 info in the "find your device..." box in the top right hand corner on the screen but nothing came up. I was wondering if anyone knows if the phone can be rooted or jailbreaked and if it can be used for tethering. I don't know if GSM phones from Walmart's Straight talk plan are hackable. If you would let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

You can find the ZIP from temp files when re-install or update a new rom
Where can I find the stock tar? I'm new to this. I soft bricked my phone.. Galaxy S II LTE i727r from Rogers... I tried to root it odin froze.. now the phone is displaying this message " Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" Any help on how I can flash back to stock rom?

Japanese (Docomo) SC-03D - same ROMs etc?

Hello. I just bought an S II LTE on Docomo. Am I right in assuming (I decided this in a fever dream of tiredness last night, so I don't know where I saw it) that ROMs designed for this ATT version of the phone will also work on the Docomo one? I know the buttons are different, but perhaps the ROMs take that into account?
If I'm in the wrong place, does anyone know which ROMs I should be using? There doesn't seem to be much talk at all of my version. Quite worrying; don't want to stay on GB!

Have no idea what Docomo is. but compare the specs, if frequencies and such are same then u can flash. isn;t the phone called 727?
U would probably need a SIM unlock.

Just google things
Do you doco users have your own kernels I bet
Sent from my SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
It's called the SC-03D, it's mostly the same as the Skyrocket. Docomo is the network,
Since I posted this, I tried flashing a Skyrocket ROM on to it. Since the radio frequencies are different, I couldn't use mobile internet. (calls and wifi worked fine) - and because the buttons are different (the Japanese version has a physical home button, and touch buttons for "options" (whatever it's called) and back - whenever I pressed back, it acted as if I were pressing home.
I assume (as someone who knows nothing about these things) that the button thing would relatively easy to fix in a slightly modded ROM. They're the same buttons as the first Galaxy.
Now, the real question: How easy would it be for a modder to set the frequencies? Is it just a question of changing a text file? So then: Can I help? Is there any diagnostic app I could run on my phone to get the info required in order to make this ROM happen? I'm hoping someone could slightly modify the most recent AOKP and re-pack it as a Docomo variant, with not too much time or effort on their part. If there's anything I could do (as someone who lives in Japan and has this variant of the phone), then obviously I would help as much as possible.
Does this sound to anyone like something that could actually happen?

The Skyrocket is the closest phone to mine that actually has a section on XDA. Mine is a Galaxy S2 LTE (only with different radio frequencies and different buttons on the front; everything else is the same - Skyrocket ROMs work on my phone, apart from the bits I've already mentioned), not a standard Galaxy S2.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I flashed a ROM: It's safe to assume that I know how to flash a zip file in CWM. And I wasn't rude in my response, so what's the issue?
Do you think I haven't searched for the files myself? Why do you think I'm here? I'm asking here in case people more knowledgeable than myself have come across the same or similar situations, since this phone is the most similar to mine. To be told to "google it" is hardly useful, is it? That was obviously the first thing I tried.

That's why I asked if there's a way to extract the radio and kernel from my current stock ROM.
If you can get the partitions description table for you device you can make an img for both radio and boot...
But that's not guaranteed to work however...
Number 2 if you delete radio and boot images from a stock skyrocket ROM zip you will only be flashing the system...just delete modem.img , amss.img and boot.img (never forget also to delete the recovery.img) ... This way the zip flash can't find the radio and kernel to flash them with the ROM..But I can't guarantee you'll not end up with a brick or if you're lucky with a boot loop !

both of you start your journey here, all the goodies, just takes a few fixes and 3rd party apps if that's cool with you, its explained in the thread just read carefully, there is even a stock tar, unbrick.img, modem.zip, and bin files for the camera fix earlier in the thread just look back til you find what you need, hope you got an old sim card though, doesn't have to be active just as long as you have one, good luck! search for mastamoon's CM12 (lollipop), fixes for it in thread also, you'll need an old sim no matter what ROM you use

Help!
I have no service after flashing several custom roms. I think i may have screwed up the modem. Is there any way i can get straight talk service on my sch-968c with cm11 or 12 installed and how?

No, you just need to get a CDMA SIM, a Verizon LTE 4G SIM is best, yes, I know the device is 3G, dont bother asking or wondering, just take my word for it, ALL of the LP d2vzw ROMs require SIM because they are for the Verizon S3 which is a 4G device and 4G devices require SIM for service and data, that makes us need it also. Another thing, stock MMS won't work with any other SIM than Verizon 4G SIM then dialing *228 to auto program SIM then manually edit APNs. Get a SIM and I'll set you up with what you need. Until you get a SIM just go back to stock or one of the kit kat ROMs from the first 6 months of last year and you won't need the SIM on those.
Does anyone know if Android M (Marshmellow) will be available for the S3 ? (d2vzw) ?

I don't know about the preview version. Everything is hush hush for now.
The team of guys I know are pretty good at what they do. Its mostly in the works upstream with the CM team. The guys I know are working as it comes from upstream. Its coming soon to the STS3 though. The team I know is already at work on it, they have it under control, I don't know about the other ROM teams though. It won't be out for beta testing for a couple of months so just be patient.

No recent news or developments yet, they are still working on it, very few teams or developers have it ready to go yet, I've seen it released for other devices but not this one yet.

Is there Ongoing Development to Officially Root the J700T?

Is there ongoing development to root the J700T without porting from roms of other carriers?
Yes.

What's the difference between the J700T and other variants? Does it mean a working recovery for the J700P?

Possibly...... it's being worked on.
No absolutes.
No promises.
Also remember XDA golden rule;
Do not ask for ETAs.

Both share same specs so maybe twrp will work but don't hold me to it.
But tmo ROM will not.

If a stock (I mean bone stock) ROM can be created to work for all exynos variants, that would be cool.

I just brought this phone on Saturday. I have not even installed sim card yet. If no recovery is posted or no Roms will be available I guess ill be returning it. Need a phone with removable battery. Guess will fix my slightly cracked screen on my S5. I don't know why phone have enclosed batteries the worst idea ever.

I never heard of this "golden rule". But anyway the guy mentioned first that official root for J700T will likely be available this weekend. He said it not me.
Are the devs looking for people to test it out for them or are they keeping it in house until release?

Only staying "in house" due to crashed laptop (HD anyway).
Have backups and will be back working on it through weekend.
"Possibly" was the key word. But it is being worked on.

That's cool I was just wondering if you guys needed people to beta test it for you. Something tells me you would have volunteers. Lol

So... what happened to the root development? I thought it would've been done by the weekend. Any snags?

Weekend started with the HD issue on laptop. Replaced HD, restored data, and discovered some conflict between compiling twrp and my current setup. Haven't figured that one out because it's strange since my laptop is Linux and has SDK installed and been using for about 3 years. Every phone I have touched has a ROM (or few on there).
So, setup a different laptop with fresh install. Worked most of Saturday night and a good bit on Sunday on it. Even used a Windows (eww) PC to work on it. Roms will be relatively easy. The recovery is more important at this point.
I even unpacked existing twrp for other j7 variants to compare to what I got in order to discover what I'm missing.
Odin failed twice. Passed once but still couldn't boot recovery as 02:15 earlier.
I am working on it.
I am no master dev.
Just a determined geek.
