new versions? - Asus Transformer TF700

Ive noticed the price on 300 has dropped, and there has been some pretty deep sale prices on the infinity recently. I wonder if asus is getting price in line with market, or if this is an indication some new models are coming. I can see 300 having some legs with the right price, but infinity is loosing ground at the top end of the market, and someone commented he took his infinity back and they didn't have one in stock and ended up getting nexus 10. I've seen a couple of new items announced recently, will there be a "beyond infiniity?" What ever that might mean.

Yes no maybe so

Well they have released the memo pad recently which kind of replaces the tf300. They've also been putting a lot of effort into the windows rt platform.

...which is a dead end. When Intel delivers their new Atom SoCs, there will be no more reason to run Windows on ARM.

Prices drop over time, that's completely normal. In fact, a product is overpriced at the release.

Let's not forget the new Padfone. It looks pretty... well, silly. Like one of those TVs that used to have a DVD player in it.

Eventually they'll probably release a new Transformer tablet, but probably not until around fall or late summer, as that's when it's usually prime time for computer buying what with people running off and starting a new life at college.
For some reason though, I've got this sinking feeling in me that ASUS is starting to direct their attention away from android tablets and possibly to windows 8 tablets, which is okay I guess, but I'd like to see at least one last iteration of the Transformer line. Maybe they could give it a not crappy nand drive and probably throw in the newest mobile chip that Intel has been touting to replace Atom, but keep the screen as is on the infinity; I think it's perfect, and more pixels means more wasted battery, so no need for nexus 10 resolution. Well, that's just my $0.02 anyway

[Q] The Future of Asus Tablets

I know most of us haven't even gotten our tablets yet, and this is purely a speculation thread, but what do you guys think about future asus tablets? Likely to stick with the transformer line? Possible they will keep the same accessories like apple does? I'd be happy to purchase accessories if I knew they would last more than one generation device.
So what do you guys think?
I wish I could provide a link, but I remember reading that Asus has stated that there will be future Transformer products (e.g., Tegra 3), and all generations will support the same accessories. I remember the source being a reliable one (maybe in the Anandtech review? no time to check at the moment), and that the statement was unequivocal.
I'm going to purchase assuming that when the next Transformer comes out, my wife will get this one by itself and I'll use the keyboard dock with the new one.
Transformer design is looking good.
It might appeal to even more if it became a
windows laptop when the screen is connected?
Tegra 3 tablets will be out in the fall
and they should solve the lag and video issues seen in the current gen products.
Might be worth waiting for...

Oh, my, I can't imagine waiting months for a product that I'll get daily use out of. Not to mention, if I waited for the next best thing in technology, I'd never buy anything. Ever.
By the end of the year there will be a new tablet that's probably slimmer and faster. It'll support the same docking station. This kind of makes me want to wait it all out and just buy a tablet in the fall.

[Q] Will you be getting Asus Prime?

News are out with most specs detailed about the Asus Prime. Will you be getting one?
In my personal opinion, Asus Transformer is better looking (brown is more inviting than cold aluminum), it has better proportions, it doesn't look like iPad2, and 4 cores aren't necessary.
Why aren't 4 cores necessary? Because tablets aren't PCs. They are consumption devices and they are used for couch surfing and Gizmodo reading.
Games don't make sense on tablets either because the dynamics are so cumbersome. So even if the Prime will be pulling games like Shadowgun, is that really important? Every game I've played I ended up getting tired of trying to properly position myself so that I can used my hands for both controlling the game and holding my tablet.
Anyways, Transformer pulls HD video and really... what more could you need?
well, if it gets more power it needs more power...
so battery would be the first problem...
and, sorry, i dont need more power
(had my TF two weeks
and will you get the new keyboard ?? i have the keyboard of the TF101, never used it..
I'm waiting to pick one up, because after getting my tf101 at launch, the old lady wants her own.
Unless someone wants to buy my rooted b50 TF101/dock for the price 9of a Prime, I will not be getting the Prime. For some of the tasks I use my TF for, the Tegra 3 would probably be useful. For the cost it is just not worth it. If there is a follow up to the Prime next year or ditto the year after, I will ****ly then u0grade to the then current device. I'm waiting for the 3rd or 4th Gen, and to see if there [i[will[/i] be, before I invest further.
Right now the only reason I could see to upgrade would be if they blew off giving us ICS, and by the time it is worth it to me to upgrade for that, both the Prime and Android 4.0 will be outdated.

ACtually if you read the technical reviews of Tegra3, then you'd know by now, that the prime (tablet alone) will last longer on battery than the TF101 - well it's just paperform, so the first tests will reveal.
But I won't get one, maybe the summer next fall
just bought a secondhand transformer so I don't really see me getting another tablet until next year.
The answer is: maybe. I probably could buy it for my company (less tax to pay then) but I won't unless it's really much better than Transformer in regards to playing movies for example. As a game developer I also don't want to have the fastest device out there so I can test on more slower devices (I bought old used phone for that reason). But I want to make 3D games next year, so maybe targeting Tegra3 with it won't be so stupid, I don't know yet.
Well ... I really want to get one, but I will wait until it has been rooted, a 3G version is available, and other Tegra 3 Tablets are released, so the price will drop!
...But the problem when waiting for Tech always is, that you are then dealing with an maybe outdated product ... maybe I will end up getting a Windows 8 Tablet
The Transformer Prime should be getting Windows 8 / ICS Dual-Boot ... I would buy it immediately.
As I'm going to install ubuntu on my TF soon (I tried it before when it was not simpleton-friendly and you had to fix wifi and stuff yourself and I was too lazy to figure it out ), I doubt I'll need a TF prime to satisfy my curiosity with new things. But to be honest, I like the copper/brown feel more because when I see that kind of metallic finish, it just brings that disgusting metal on metal sound to my ears (or head, since technically I don't actually hear it, just the memory of it).

I agree, the brown is so much friendly looking. The aluminum is so cold and unpleasent, it also looks quite bad - not to mention how easily it should scratch.
The current transformer's back is so nice, its not cold, it doesn't scratch, its easier to grip and most importantly it's not a fingerprint magnet!

I have seen a lot of things saying it won't. Yet another reason I won't be doing business with Asus anymore
I'm passing. My TF does all I need it to do right now and I cannot see a compelling reason on the horizon to dump what works.
I got my tf on launch day. I think the prime is exactly what I want build wise. Much thinner, I like the look over the LV-ish brown, dock is slimmer. I really can't wait for it. People are saying its more expensive but its really the same price. It starts at 32 gb instead 16gb for 499 which was what the 32gb tf 1 was. I wont get it on launch day (can't afford it but would if I could)
When I got the dock for the tf I never thought I'd use for anything more than battery power and a stand to watch movies on in bed but the more time I used it, the more and more I used the dock and now can't see having one and not have a dock.

I have to say "Yes, please!" I personally don't own a tablet yet so for me I think it is a good buy. Also after using a friends for a few days some of the docs, pdf, spread sheets ran ok but, I wish it would be a little faster. So I am hoping that the prime will make some of that more snappy.
Been hawking the web just to find a preorder, i really want one. My wife already hates me due to my droid phone compaired to her Iphone. Now I cant wait to see how this stacks up to her ipad. She is starting to hate apple hoping this will be the nail in the coffin.

[Q] TF101 - If the attempts at updates by ASUS don't work... what will they do f

I just had to ask the question to this community and hope that the folks from ASUS are watching. If this last update (.24) doesnt work (and early results are not looking too good) what next?
I can't speak for everyone here but I know I was a SERIOUS fan of the Transformers before all this happened, and was busy convincing many to look past the iPads to something more. After all this I am TRYING to still be supportive and believe in the product but its been ~2 months of never knowing when your device would fail you and I'm getting weary. ASUS is taking a real hit in the customer loyalty area with this mess and I wonder if they are thinking of how they can stop this.
So what do you all think they should do? I'm kind of partial to the idea of swapping out TF101s that still are issue-prone with the new 300 series pads (since they come with ICS out of the box I assume they arent having these issues).
That might be an option for them with those of you still inside your warranty, but I doubt they'll do it.
I don't think they care about it, TBH, or they would have had competent people fix this inside the 2+ months we've been dealing with it.
Asus developer team is trying to fix the problem, ASUS as a whole is not hurt by tablets sales, this is a sidebranch for them to get some shareholders excited and their main focus is still pc machines.
I would buy an asus laptop in a heartbeat. The real problem here is android, Google is just not investing time and effort into it (except when it's for their own devices- which still had a reboot problem)
Google actually approved all releases of android to Asus tf101, we are talking about the top programmers in the world who simply put a stamp of approval on it and send it on its way.
For google to be invested in tablets, they need to be depended on them. Like apple, it was win or loose for them. Google is making money collecting ad money, with nowhere to put it.
Google Glasses? really? that's what the world needs.

El Goog has had it too, the market has become way too fragmented and impossible to sustain/support.
By X-mas this yer, they will offer 5+ of phones & tablets directly from Google, made by a few different vendors, that will likely be running plain Jelly Bean, w/o ANY of the vendor-specific bloatware etc. Lets hope these will be subject to much more stringent QA etc.
I'd also hope Goog would do what Nvidia/ATI been doing for years, where XFX, Gigabyte, ASUS etc all offer cards built using the Nvidia/ATI's silicon.
Let vendors decide the case, color & finish, gorilla glass vs glass 2, micro sd or no sd, amt of RAM/Flash, but they have to get to where these are 100% solid.
As far as TF101 is concerned, downgrade to HC, I am using Revolver 3.11 and she's been rock solid.
Unfortunately, the time is not on our side here as ASUS's already thin resource are getting spread too thin, with TF300 out and TF700 just weeks away . Us, early adopters, no-one will care about.
Class action lawsuit. We paid for devices that do not perform as advertised. In fact, these problems with random reboots came up long after the device was launched, so an update by ASUS has caused our devices to become defective. We deserve to be compensated.

I just bought this one sale a few weeks ago.
It reminds me of an old phone I had, the g2x. Also, a tegra 2 device.
I'm starting to think the problem wasn't LG, isn't asus, but is NVIDIA! Of all the terribly buggy android devices, it's mostly theirs.
I see this threat repeated over and over again on this forum, as if anyone from ASUS is reading this and as if, in the event that someone from ASUS is reading this, they have anything to do with the legal or executive management teams at ASUS. What is the class action going to do for us? Tell ASUS to fix the problem? Aren't they already trying to do that? Get us a few dollars each, and thereby releasing them from having to fix this problem? I'd rather have the problem fixed, which brings us back to a couple of sentences back. Get us back to Honeycomb, which I can already do myself, since we were never promised ICS when we bought this anyway? I'd rather have a working ICS. Go back a few sentences. Enrich a few lawyers while resolving nothing for us? Yes, I can see that happening. As long as ASUS is putting good effort into getting us to a working system, I don't see reason to pursue legal courses of action yet.
Try AOSP.
This whole thing has been an adventure. To be honest I wasen't happy on honeycomb. It was too slow and had alot of problems, im was happy with ICS because it was faster. I was then waiting for the quality apps to come along. The reboots started and thought it would be fixed in the next uppdate, it continued like this. The more time that went I was thinking "okey forget about the reboots- bring on the apps"
Then I realized that nvidia would only produce games for tegra 3, I expressed my worry about this on another forum, but was led to belive that nvidia will include tegra 2 aswell.
NO, there will not be coming any more games for tegra 2. Dark medows might be converted but when is another question.
Productivity apps:
Splashtop THD was made tegra 3 exclusive, most pdf reader has hardware gpu acc off because it caused to much problems. The only pdf reader that is working but has some minor lag when changing pages is EZPDF. iannotate (a great pdf reader on ios) is samsung market only, and has not been updated in months.
Taking notes in class? I was thrilled by supernote, but it has no palm rejection.
in conclusion: Thank you google for taking me on this ride, thanks to nvidia for trying to exclude tegra 2 to get on the money train.
Android on tablets is a joke. Let's just get over this like it was a bad relationship ruined by greed.

Are they? It's been three post-ICS updates and they're still building the kernel without L2TP support. Do you expect them to fix anything more complex like RRs or SODs when they're even incapable of (or unwilling to) changing a single line in the freaking kernel configuration file to restore an advertised feature?
Oh, by the way: L2TP did work on stock Honeycomb and it'd work on stock ICS as well - that is, the userspace would be capable of configuring and managing an L2TP (or L2TP+IPsec) VPN iff the kernel was built with the proper configuration.
Mantano Reader is the best PDF reader, bar none. I tried a bunch of them, before settling on this one.
I am about $1000 into ASUS TF101 - 2 tablets, dock, cards. Feel your pain, if not for HC downgrade I performed, I'd thrown them into a wall or outta window, it was frustrating.

I've been using L2TP/IPSEC PSK for months now, everyday, and it's been working perfectly, both at my home, over my dsl connection, and at work, over a T3 network. I also can use a PPTP vpn. Perhaps the L2TP issue only affects certain models.

A reasonable offer would be to compensate the full price of the tablet, plus any accessories that were purchased for it, along with the shipping costs associated with sending the unit in to be "fixed".
Perhaps ASUS believes that most of use this device for Angry birds and email only, but I use it for business and being out a functional device is killing me. How long do we have to wait to get working tablets? In the age of high-tech devices, one month is too long. Certainly, waiting many months with no solution is borderline fraud. They sold us lemons and should recall them.
I've never in my life paid to have a product constantly fail as much as the TF101 has. I wish I could love it, but not after the BS and ongoing problems I have with it. ASUS is by far the worst electronics company I've ever owned product from. I would never recommend them after this fiasco.
The saddest part of this whole thing is that the TF101 + ICS is great when it works (ie not rebooting, screen glitching, etc..). The OS is far snappier than HC was at handling the UI... screen transitions, soft keyboard presses, etc.
But 2 months of faulty a glitchy OS while ASUS steadily unveils newer models! That was like a slap in the face...

Excellent work. Asus needs to realize that they can't crap on their customers forever.
There's a story on the website "the Consumerist", where a guy had his tf101 in for repair 7 times and he still didn't have a working tablet. His story is TYPICAL service from Asus and I'm going through the same hell with my tablet .

Funny I actually completely disagree with everything you are saying. I own a desktop PC built from the ground up with probably %90 ASUS products. About a year ago purchased a $1200 Core i7 laptop from ASUS. Had a Netbook 2 years ago from ASUS, and finally own this tablet. I have had 0 problems with any of these. My desktop has been going strong for 3 years now (And by that I mean NOTHING has failed and I recieved 0 DOA parts). My laptop after a year is still running smooth with Windows 7 (Again no failures). Netbook was sold a couple months ago, which was starting to slow down (Was a netbook after all) and did have a minor charger problem (Would not charge sometimes, bought a 3rd party charger and was fine).
Finally I own this tablet, use it every day to surf the web, send emails, take notes, and play the occasional game. HC was good, a tad slow compared to the tried and true Gingerbread on my phone but once it got the ICS update it was as fast as I would have expected. On stock ROM I would get the SOD every 2 to 3 days but after switching to AOSP a couple weeks ago I have yet to get a RR or SOD. So although I was having minor issues on stock it still wasn't that big of a deal (Should be rebooting it every couple of days anyways). I personally love ASUS and tell everyone I know to order ASUS and have never heard ANY negative feedback after they purchased things from ASUS.
Oh and lets not forget how ASUS was one of the first company's to release an ICS anything. The RZR (Motorola and VZW's flagship phone) is just now seeing BETA releases while we are enjoying ICS updates. Sounds like a crappy company huh?
I probably wont go ASUS for my next tablet but Im not nearly as mad as most of you. Yeah, it sucks. An occasional reboot that ONLY happens when the tablet is idle. Its never died on me while using (which goes back to suspected voltage thing).
If anything my first thought is to stay away from nVidia. Their chips suck. The Tegra 2 was a weakling and for all of its promies the Tegra 3 is getting easily outshined by the newer architecture duals (and even a single in the right setting). Its porbably a combination of the OS/apps not using it to its potential but also a bit of the "lazies" going on from nVidia. Instead of improving the core its just slapping more on there.

Keep tf700 or wait for tegra 4?

I bought the tf700 about 2 weeks ago from best buy using the 50$ coupon that best buy messed up on. I actually bought it for 419 w/ tax going up to 450 which also includes the dock. Is this a good price for this? Well I have 2 weeks left for a full refund and I'm still debating if I should get a refund and wait for tegra 4 tablets or just keep it. There is slight flex on the screen which makes a clicking noise when I press on it but it doesn't really bother me. At first I was looking into ultrabooks but I gave tablet a try. Besides it's hard to find i5 ultrabooks for under 500. Help me decide!!

That is a good price IMO.
I'd say this is a factor of your budget and how much you use your tablet. I got the first Android tablet, a Motorola Xoom, on launch day. I had it for a few months and used it a lot then decided to sell it prematurely in order to wait for the next best thing which in my eyes was an HD screen. Well I ended up having to wait almost a year before I got my next tablet, a TF700. That entire year I was kicking myself for not holding on to the Xoom until I actually had another tablet in my possession.
So I guess you have to ask yourself how important to you is having a tablet? At that price I'm guessing you could probably sell it for a ~$100 loss a few months down the road. Who knows though the next generation of tablets might take longer to come out, like the delay we had on the 1080P tablets. With that in mind, if I were you, I'd keep it!
$450.00 for tab and dock?
I'd say that's a good deal.
If the click bugs you trade that in for one that doesn't click.
Just picked up a TF700 myself and I was literally asking myself the same question. I've got a little less than 60 days to return this to BBY if another tab is announced for release soon.
I guess, there are a few things to consider.
1) Is the better performance/battery life of the new device going to be significant? If they jack up the resolution like the N10, it will probably be closer to par with the TF700.
2) Will a new tablet have any hardware issues (e.g. TF-Prime GPS & Wifi problems)? The TF700 is a mature product and it's limitations are well outlined. If you buy a TF700 now, you know exactly what you are going to get.
3) What new features will be on this Tab, and are they worth waiting for? TF700 has SDXC, mini HDMI, a dock with full USB, Full HD, etc. It's a good feature set. TF700 is a bit low on ram with only 1GB, I'd rather have 2GB. It's missing an integrated LTE modem that is said to be in T4, but TBH, I would always buy the wifi version anyway. Better battery life, I wouldn't pay for the extra data plan, and my phone is now tethering fine (thanks TrevE). N10 like resolution looks impressive on paper, but not so in person. I have good eyesight, and the difference isn't noticeable. It's an advertising point over the ipad. Google needs to stop chasing Apple and build more hardware features into their tablets that Apple didn't already do a year ago, but I digress.
4) Are there any applications you cannot run on the TF700 that a new tab would fix? I picked u the TF700 because my Touchpad (running CM9) keeps crashing skype; which I use daily. I run a somewhat recent nightly, and since the Camera fix (thanks for that Dorregaray) being able to use skype at all is awesome. However, having to reboot the tablet 6 times in a night and constantly mucking up the conversation is real pain. Since using the TF700, I haven't had one hiccup in skype. That is worth a lot to me, but a newer tab won't make it better.
Anyway, those are the things I've been mulling over. I will need to see what the new Transformer will look like before I make any kind of decision.
Edit: FWIW, I paid $468 for the tab & a 32GB micro sdxc card. I think you got the better deal.
Have they given a release date for any Tegra4 device? I thought one was shown at the last electronics show but it was still a development model and didn't mention anything about release times or price. You could be waiting awhile and in meantime if you keep the TF700 start stashing away some money monthly for the next wave of tablets. That could help on any loss you take or cover the difference to a model with more storage.
----------
1 - I don't think anyone can tell what the performance and battery life will be like right now. New devices and cpu's are marketed as more performance while reducing energy needs but the tech community needs products to test before accepting what is said as fact. Are Tegra4 chps supposed to run at the same power that today's Tegra3 chips do but have the better performance? That is a performance improvement while reducing the power needed if they were to make a Tegra3 to equal that performance. Someone may have a better answer regarding power saving but remember a bumped up screen size will probably draw more power anyway.
2 - Again probably hard to answer. Until the product hits the market we really won't know how it performs and what problems it may or may not have. It is a risk you take by buying the next and greatest device. Prime was the next and greatest device and we know how that turned out. We can only hope they get the message after 3 devices that they need better I/O components.
4 - As far as applications I think many people have issue with games that are released or already out and "not supported" by our device. It will take some time once a new device comes out for companies to tweak the code or whatever they do to have the games run on the device. That is done on their whim. Why some haven't not done now on the TF700 (Gameloft and EA) is a question I don't think anyone truly knows. Some guess it's screen resolution and they don't want to change the code to render the graphics properly for our device.

Well, I had really wanted a "Wayne" (Tegra 4) device, and was waiting for that to launch to replace/augment the touchpad. The marketing slides showing kepler tech integrated into the SoC is actually a little bit exicting to me. However, I took advantage of a time limited offer to get the TFI at a reduced price. I use google docs for invoicing clients, and the Touchpad wasn't handling that well enough for me to do it on site. I found myself just waiting to get home to do it & emailing an invoice back. The TFI with the keyboard dock provides an excellent solution, and I had considered getting an ultra book for this purpose, but at about half the price of the ultrabook I was looking at, while fulfilling essentially the same purpose, having the same size profile, and better battery life, well it seemed like the better bargain.
That said, if I could get my hands on a next gen transformer within the next 60 days, I'd likely trade this in, in a heart beat.
My opinion the TF700T is viable for a while longer.
Glad the FHD tabs didn't shoot of into a numbers game as quick as I thought they would.
All I can say is after the "lobotomy" lol...my tablet has been a satisfying adventure.
It's smooth no jitters, games well (light gaming), plays my Xfinity downloads without a hitch, wifi connects stays connected, gps is quick,
browser is hanging in there...etc.
Just for a bit of comparison:
I've side by sided the tablet with my 2 year old HP AMD A6 notebook, and for what it is the tab has about the same amount of annoyance that a Win7 notebook has.
Not comparing Windows to Android just noting all devices big and small can of course suffer glitchiness.
Once the system settles in and with a little restraint as far as collecting\installing poorly written apps the Infinity remains a buy at least for me.
Hopefully when the newer tabs start popping perhaps some of us hold-outs will benefit from a much better selection of HD tablet applications.

How did you get the 60 day refund period? On my best buy receipt it states 30 days hassle free returns. Also it's a little weird that my tf700 freezes and randomly reboots. It doesn't do it frequently but once in awhile it does that.....very weird. This is actually my second tablet because the first one had slight flex but the current one actually makes a small clicking noise too. Honestly it doens't really bother me but ASus def needs to work on their quality control
Personally, waiting for the next tablet from ASUS (I assume you want a Transformer tablet) will be a very painful experience. Our tf700 was announced at CES 2012 (in January 2012), but only became available for sale at least 4 months later (depend on your location). Given the fact that ASUS has not announced any successor to our Infinity yet, I am inclined to believe if there is a Tegra 4 tablet from ASUS, it will only be available to us on the second half of the year. I have been waiting for the Transformer Book for many months but it is still not available. To me, waiting for something that is not even announced yet is a waste of time and effort.
I would strongly reccomend this tab to anyone who needs something with similar functionality to a netbook or ultrabook but I am looking forward to see what will come next. I would love to see something with a little more power hit the same nitch and with about the same price point... I'm actually waiting on the razer edge tablet to see what it turns into. anyways, I plan on hanging on to my TF700 even if I do get an ultrabook or the edge.

Premier Silver. Drop enough cash at best buy and you get side benefits, like a doubled return period. Most of the the other benefits are less useful. I don't bother with the complimentary Geek Squad services, for example. Even if I wanted or needed their services (I don't), I still wouldn't use it. Mostly, that's just an opportunity for them to come into your home and look for things they can sell you.
Honestly. ...maybe a extra gig of ram would make this tablet perfect for me. The resolution is ideal for me and the speed is great (running CleanRom) and it does what I hope to get from it. And I use my note 2 for the extra stuff (multi window, nfc sharing etc). And to top that, the mobile giants still have not made 100% use of the quad core as it is and until then, asus infinity is a keeper.

Tegra 4 isn't shipping until QTR 3 2013. Given that time frame, I'm reasonably happy with my purchase. If the SoC isn't even shipping until then, you won't see devices until QTR 4, and that's nearly a year away. No doubt there will be better performers from Qualcomm sooner than that, but even so, I'm happy with the device I have for now.
searched but haven't even found rumors on a successor - had the TFPrime before and since it got nicked I am waiting for sth new to play with.
Have started considering the Samsung Tab Plus (whenever announced) given the higher res. Still seems that the TF700 has enough muscles and the add keyboard (+battery) is clearly a plus...
Anyhow - have there been any news on the TF700 successor that I missed
Its becomming a bit rusty given the time its already in the market

I have to agree about the extra gig of ram. But in response to the OP's question, yes that is a very good price. You could always dualboot it with rabbits' linux so as to gain some of the functionality that you would get with an ultrabook. The infinity will not become redundant for a while yet in my opinion so I say go for it.
For tablet with awesome dock integration the tf700 cant be beat. You also got a great deal on both. As far at Tegra 4 devices in particular Asus ones, no one knows yet when they will actually release one so you will have to play the waiting game. Vizio is the only one I know of that is coming out with one but not sold in the U.S. and doesn't have a keyboard dock option.
As someone mentioned the tf700 is a good laptop or netbook replacement. So if you're not going to play high graphic games on it like gameloft games then its a good tablet. But I do recommend you unlock and install custom rom on it as it lags quite a bit in stock form.

The price is good, considering you got the dock with it.

Unless the device has a battery-powered dock, I'd suspect battery life is going to be on par at best -- expect it to be worse. This may not apply if the new device carries one of those funky new battery design which last for a week and are charged in 10 minutes, but those will only get on the market in about two years, they reckon.
2) Will a new tablet have any hardware issues (e.g. TF-Prime GPS & Wifi problems)? The TF700 is a mature product and it's limitations are well outlined. If you buy a TF700 now, you know exactly what you are going to get.

Obviously true, and very significant remark. Any device will have its issues, and given the fact that the TF201 suffered from some of these as well, I'd not expect the next Transformer to be faultless either. :S

And the N10 has both QA and availability issues, for example.
Following your digression for a bit: Apple had already lost the innovation game in the tablet and smartphone worlds a few years ago. All they have done is increase screen size, and (sometimes) resolution.

If anything, the older device will probably support more apps altogether -- if you have experienced the transitions from Froyo to Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean, you have noticed that we lost a lot of apps along the way that were pretty good in themselves, but just weren't given the TLC to update them to function on the new version. Backward compatibility is less of an issue when the programmer takes it into account when developing his/her app, but too often an app is just hacked together and subsequently, essentially, abandoned.[/QUOTE]

What is your next upgrade?

With the new crop of top end tablets coming out are you guys/gals going to upgrade?
I love the Asus keyboard dock and relatively quick updates but the I/o lag kills me on the TF700. Installing an app and trying to browse the web brings it to a crawl. I'd rather not have to root and install a new ROM to use this thing.
I had the original Samsung Tab 10.1 and while it's stuck on 4.0 it performs better than the TF700.
I'm going for the Note 2014 edition over the TF701 this time around. The big bezels are looking really dated. One speaker is also a real downer. The fact that Samsung stuff can play Tapped Out is another plus for me. The Note 2014 also charges with a standard micro USB. The Asus charge cable not working with regular USB high amp chargers was really annoying as well.

No. The TF700 does everything I need from a tablet.

I did, and it was the main reason why I'm keeping the TF700.
I'm not going to upgrade my tab. After the warranty was off, i unlocked it and installed CROMI-X and this was like upgrading from a old 2012 tab to a new 2014 tab. And you know what ? It's free (no money to spend to upgrade) apart of your willing to give donation to the community of developpers.

I am just not impressed with the state of 10.1" tablets. Asus supported the TF700 very well for a relatively long time, but it looks like their Memopads and Intel tablets are being treated like shovelware. I can't bring myself to trust them until that changes. Ditto for Samsung. I would probably take the plunge for a new Nexus 10 revision, but the rumor mill is indicating that it might not happen.
I really don't want to support Asus, but given the current state of affairs I might end up picking up a T100. It kills me to buy what is essentially a netbook, but the prospect of direct OS updates combined with x86 app support is starting to sound attractive.
Show me a GPE transformer with a next-gen SoC (K1 or Snapdragon 8xx) and I'll be back on board with Android in a heartbeat. I wouldn't trade my Nexus 4 for anything but a Nexus 5. I would have told you the same thing about my TF700 for a very long time, but the market has changed.
Oh, and iPads. I don't do the walled garden thing.

Did the same and now I use it all the time. Performance and stability are great and a 10" tablet with a keyboard dock is exactly what I want.
With the price of the t100 now, i think it will be my next device even though its constructions looks cheap like a low end acer laptop, the x86 bay trail soc is very interesting and has full dx11 / opengl support as opposed to the limited open gles support of arm/ tegra socs , im done with tegra untiil we get the tegra k1 with Linux drivers
I'm in the same boat. I have rooted and installed CROMI-X but my transformer is still slow as all get out (if I'm in an app and hit the home button I can usually count to 3 or 4 slowly before i actually get to the home screen; I had to turn off auto app updates because once it started updating apps my tablet was completely unusable until it finished... like 10 minutes later...)
My biggest requirement is HD resolution. The dock I can take or leave. I looked at the MeMo Pad FHD, the price is right, but I'm worried another ASUS tab I'll be in the same boat. I'm also afraid to drop $500+ on one of the new samsung tabs because for that $$$ I better be ecstatic with the results and I'm worried I won't be.
If anyone has upgraded from an infinity and can offer their experiences with the replacement unit let me know!

Something is wrong with your setup - hitting the home button should be pretty much instantaneous. What you are experiencing is not normal.

I agree hehe. It's a clean install of latest cromi at this point. I was using data2sd which seemed somewhat better, but still not great, but then it started locking up all the time and the sd card became corrupted so I went back to a standard install, full wipe. Maybe it's faulty hardware but I'm sort of tired of messing with it and ready to get something that just works.

I bought an acer w700 with a 3rd gen i5 processor, 4 gig of RAM, and costs about $500++. comes with a free keyboard case from acer, and so far, it runs great.
On paper, I am looking at the Xperia Z2 tablet: Snapdragon 801, 3GB RAM, microSD card, Android 4.4, waterproof, dustproof, full HD screen with excellent color gamut, thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablet and finally, front-facing stereo speakers. Sony's skin is quite minimal as well, so performance out of the box should be really good. I must say this tablet ticks every single requirement that I have (minus the keyboard dock). Who knows, this year might be the year of Sony.
Surface ...
I had the TF100 for nearly 3 years and was very happy with running custom android releases. With Kit Kat it ran really well.
Upgraded to a used TF700 and immediately loaded a 4.4.2 nightly. The TF700 has a better screeen, but the TF100 feels equally "fast." The dock of the TF700 is inferior to the TF100 dock (lighter, keys have less travel, or positive action. The whole thing just feels like a cheaped out version of the TF100. The GPS does work better than the TF100.
Anyway, the company I work for is moving to several RT apps, and providing Surface tablets. Further, I may pick up a refurb'd pro. Speed wise it is just a whole nother animal, yet at $399 refurb, it is at the same price point as a TF700.
With an android phone, and having android tablets for the last few years, I am pretty sure I want to stick with android. I have a windows 8 laptop and for a lot of the things I do I haven't been happy with the app selection. Which is a shame because most of the windows 8 laptops i've looked at are powerhouses and very smooth experiences.
Never going to support that company again. It is the worst piece of hardware I ever owned.
The design is neat but that is all. Build quality sucks, light sensor does not work, gorilla glass has scratches, back has scratches, the power plug bend the jack.
And the interior is even worse. I mean I could even live with all the outside flaws but as said that I/O lag is killing.
The tab feels like an old 133MHZ computer. I bought a tablet to just switch it on and use it.
But switching on the ASUS results in a dead tablet for 30 minutes because of updates and what not. Browsing is near to impossible.
I only kept it because of the nice screen (brightness) and as I need it for my exam to read on it.
Although for just a reading device it was much overpriced.
Why am I ranting about all this? I won't buy any other tablet if those things aren't fixed with that.
So any device that comes close to the design of the TF700 especially regarding to weight and screen brightness/readability (in sunlight)
and does not have those bugs is my next one.
I really hope for another Nexus 10" tablet not build by ASUS. My NexusOne was great and I'm in love with my Nexus4.
