[Q] Battery Issues.. - HTC Desire S

So, about two months ago I was given this lovely HTC phone and was delighted that I had a phone that was capable of running Sense 4.1 (and hopefully 5.0 ) and has a Jellybean kernel, within the first hour of having the device it was already S-Off'd and had Sense 4.1 installed on it, it was working fine the battery life was good and everything was great.
That day I had to travel to the doctors (3 hour trip) so I got in the car and because I was just given this phone it had 37% battery, so I put it on my car charger and off it went started charging and everything was great. The next day I woke up and put the phone in my pocket without even looking at it, and got in the car, and the phone was turned off, I thought WTF so I just turned it back on and left it in my pocket, then 15 minutes later I looked at it and it was off again, so again I turned it on, but this time I looked at the screen while it was turning on, and it would get past the 'HTC Quietely Brilliant' screen and onto the bootlogo of the ROM and then would go to the lockscreen, so I flick the Sense 4 ring up and I get the homescreen, then a few seconds later, black screen and the phone turns off.
I thought that this was weird, so I just put my SIM in my old phone and put my Desire in the cupboard with my SII and other broken devices ( D: ). But that night when I got home I did some more testing... When the phone is getting power (AC or USB) it will not turn off, but as soon as it is unplugged it will turn off... but if I boot into HBOOT (Bootloader) without a charger plugged in it will work fine and not turn off.
So then I thought it was not a battery problem so it must be something else... so I downloaded [ROM][24-04-13][Flinny] Andromadus - CM10.1[18] and the same thing was happening, it would just turn off after a few seconds.. I basically tried all of the Sense and JB ROM's and this happens..
Then I thought it may be something to do with the kernel, so I downloaded the Ice Cream Saga ROM and used the custom kernel that it packaged with that ROM and the same thing happened, then I downloaded and installed the OFFICIAL ICS.zip that is installed through bootloader and sure enough the same thing happened.
Then I thought it may be the HBOOT, since I was on 0.98.0000, so with the ICS update I got the 2.00.002 (?) HBOOT and the same thing happened, then to be sure I downloaded the ENG HBOOT and flashed that, same thing happened, then I downloaded the 6.xxxx.xxxx HBOOT and flashed it, and sure enough, the same thing still happened.
So what do you think the problem is, do I just buy another battery?

Also, I forgot to mention that TWRP recovery (and only TWRP) fails to do ANYTHING (wipe, backup, restore, install) and if I boot into TWRP and look at the battery, then reboot into the ROM then back into recovery, the battery will change by ~70%.

So, I just flashed the latest TWRP recovery (since it is my favorite) and now when I press reboot (or anything really) it will just reboot back into recovery. Like even if I flash a ROM that will work and then I press reboot and I am back in recovery, and if I pull the battery and put it back in I am back in recovery. I can't even get into HBOOT, just to recovery, I am going to try leaving it on the charger all night and see what happens.

Woke up to bricked g1!

hi guys, i woke up with a brick on my nightstand. The light was red, which means it was off and charging. It wouldnt turn on, so i took out the battery and put it back in, and it was bricked. I had the SuperD rom, 1.11. so im screwed, right?
my G1 did this once. i just pulled the battery and powered back on, it booted to a black screen so i pulled the battery, held down the power button for 30 seconds +/- a few, then put the battery back in and it booted up just fine
i don't understand how it would brick on it's own? have you tried entering into bootloader? If you can, you can probably re flash the rom, or flash a new one. Good luck.
Your rom probably got corrupted, you're only bricked if you cannot enter recovery/bootloader (mainly the bootloader). If you can do either of these then it is reversible.
Try and reflash a different ROM ?

Correct Clockwork recovery?

I have read most if not all threads about charging problems and wrong version of CWM being installed etc.
I too suffered from the dead battery and not charging routine, and that was on the revolutionary cwm (blue lettered one) installed at time of S-OFF.
Ok, nuked it and installed new cwm the orange lettered 4.0.1.4. same deal when battery went flat. Read some more on XDA and conflicting info abounds .
Downloaded the "new" working one (which happens to be a blue one again) , also version 4.0.1.4, and same deal, didn't work on flat battery.
Installed 4.0.1.5 and that didn't work either.
So i suspect a cwm version works for some and not for others or in my case no version works. I now just make sure i have a fully charged spare battery or never let my phone go flat.
If someone has what they believe is a tried and tested working version of CWM I am willing to try it.
My sensation is the Z710a, not sure if the "a" model is affected differently to the "e" model.
I went away this weekend and my battery died, I had the Orange-colored CW (original 4.0.1.4 version). Couldn't recharge it at all, so what I did was download the new 4.0.1.4 (blue-colored, not the old purple-colored version) from this thread, first post. I jump-started the phone by hooking up a stripped USB cable power leads to the +/- battery contacts in the phone, stuck the battery in and taped everything up nice and tight.
Booted up the phone normally, copied the latest recovery zip to the sdcard, and rebooted into fastboot to flash. Gotta be extremely careful when flashing, because the whole time the USB leads are the only thing powering the phone so if they slip off when reflashing you'll brick the phone.
With the new CW the battery started charging right away after disconnecting the jump leads, and after about 5 minutes could be powered on normally. As far as I can tell the recharge problem is now fixed.

Screen wont turn on

Hello,
Runnin an unlocked bootloader, rooted, running Melvin's ADT rom so its just stock and rooted, nothing special on ATT. I installed the no CID flash last week and it worked fine. I have rebooted several times and there was no issue for the past week. Today i had my phone on my desk and i went to unlock it so that I could check the time and the screen wouldnt turn on. I waited about 5 mins and it still wouldnt turn on. I pulled the battery and put it back and tried to turn it on and it vibrated but the screen never turned on. I pulled the SIM, the SD card, and the battery and still no luck. I put the battery in and it wont light up at all. The buttons on the bottom, nor the screen will light up. Cannot get into the the boatloader either. Anyone have ideas on how to fix this?
i have not experienced this nor heard about it until today. i saw another thread with 2 other people with the same issue.. maybe some defective devices floating around out there? take it too at&t for an exchange.... here is the other thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356670
well it ended up being an easy fix. The phone just wasnt showing the currect battery percentage. It said the phone was at full charge but it was empty so the battery died. I went to plug the phone into the computer and see if can go into download mode to flash via odin but then it turned on. It recharged and it worked of course.

Unresponsive Phone....Help...

If this thread is more appropriate in another section, mods please move.
I'm by no means a lost newbie, having run a rooted & rom'd Epic 4G since release date and flashed it many times, modded, customized, etc, etc.
However, this dang Photon is giving me hell..
Just got the phone yesterday, unlocked the Bootloader, rooted, etc, etc. Tried updating the phone before realizing it doesn't work without stock recovery, so restored the phone back to stock'ish using some TWRP stock dumps someone posted. Flashed stock recovery back, booted, got the phone to download and apply the update, flashed TWRP back, rooted, booted, everything is good. Ok, finally I can get to restoring some data using Titanium. Restored a few things, it was getting late, and I knew it would take a while to restore my SMS/MMS messages so I kicked that off before going to bed. Phone was plugged into the charger all night. Woke up this morning and the phone was only at 50% and the SMS/MMS restore in Titanium seemed to be hung. Phone was still fully responsive, accessed the market, checked emailed, then I shut the phone down via the power menu in order to un-hang that Titanium restore...phone turns off, then shows the unlocked bootloader screen, then shows a backlit black screen and will do nothing else. Won't turn off, no combination of vol up/down and power will get into recover or fastboot. Phone has just been sitting there for about an hour now with a blank/black (but backlit so it is powered on) screen.
Any thoughts or suggestions or am I screwed at this point?
I don't know why I'm having such issues with even mildly modding this phone...
Ok, after about an hour and a half of just sitting there, the phone showed to be fully shut down. Was able to boot in to TWRP, so I then exited and rebooted and it booted all the way into the OS.
Not sure what happened or why, but I hope I'm good now.

When you powered off the device was it still on thee charger? When I power off and mine is on the charger it does the same thing. I just unplug the powr and then use poer button and vol dwn at same time to pwr off. Just threw that out there just in case it happened again.
Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk 2
It was plugged in when I did, but a few moments later after it did what it did I unplugged it, still was unresponsive to any power key / vol key combo, tossed it in my pocket & left for work. Tried it a few more times on the way to work, still nothing, tried it again when I go to work, still nothing, then grabbed the phone to check on it about another 30 mins later and it had fully turned off on it's on.
Who knows...been fine since.

Should i put my phone in the garbage ?

my phone rooted/s-off on hboot 2.15 , TWRP 2.6.3 and made backup of ROM. This phone i call it the "bad attitude phone" because it works whenever it wants. Whenever it doesnt want it just shuts off and wont turn on, The only way it works sometimes is connected to wall charger for a bit then holding volume down + power and it may go into booloader, I even wipe the sd card with a full system/cache/ wipe so i delete Stock rom , everything ( No OS Found ), then reinstalled the stock RUU from Tmobile, unlocked again , superCID again, rooted but keep doing it.
I connected to charger and orange light wont turn on then i try to boot into bootloader and sometimes the light does turn on, now if the phone is ok and working if i turn it off or restart it, it wont turn back on for a while, but if i leave it one with screen timeout off (so its on all the time) it works fine.
i took it to a tech store ( one of those that fixed phones and sell simple mobile and stuff ) and all i get from the tech is " im clueless whats wrong with it" and this after like 2 weeks if testing the phone.
Should i just put it in the garbage or should i try something else ?

I'm not an expert on hardware, but I would say, yes, put it in the garbage. It sounds like you might have a hardware problem. I got my One S for about $180 4 months ago on slickdeals. If you lurk around long enough I'm sure you can find a good deal on something.
