I simply want to purchase a Moto phone from its Droid series, I'm planning on leaving Tmobile and will proceed to get a moto device. However I can't decide on which version of the Droid to get; so far I know that the OG droid has an unlocked loader, which the others don't have. But the CPU in it is slower than the other droids, I mainly want a Droid that has a ICS ROM in the works, if it has a locked loader too then I will still consider it. My choices are:
1.OG Droid
2.Droid2
3.Droid X
I just want a reliable phone that can check mail, browser, and other basic smartphone features.

Well i've decided on Droid2 & 1, but I may pick 2 since it has 2x the RAM, but it has a locked bootloader. I can't decide if the bootloader is so important to pass up the D2.

If you want basic smartphone features, I think you won't need unlocked bootloader. I can't suggest nothing more because I don't know much about Moto devices.

Thank. I sold my Sensation b/c I thought it was more than I needed, so it wouldn't make sense to keep what I didn't fully need. I expect that the D1 can handle email, fb, ics, and other basic apps I use.
For how much did you sell it? (If it's not a secret)

I have the D2 and I actually downgraded to the D1 then back to the D2. If you're going to run stock I suggest you use the D1. It's way more fluid. If you're going to load things like miui and CM then go for the D2. It's more compatible with those kinds of things.
They're both really simple when it comes to obtaining root depending on how you do it. I've always used linux to do such things.
I also really prefer the keyboard on the D2. That awkward directional pad on the D1 throws it all off for me.

Does the locked bootloader cause issues with root or changing ROMs? I just want to get either for the KB, since I hate screen KBs very much, and both have ICS now so that's my target ROM.
Nah, I change ROMs all the time. Never had a problem. The latest update made me lose root since I was on the stock ROM. But otherwise I've never had a problem.
This is on both D1 and D2

I have an Atrix, and it is quite old now... I want a larger screen
Planning to get a Sensation to replace it, and i have some questions to ask about it:
1. How is the battery life?
Would it get very hot while using?
2. How is the build quality? ie. any chance to be easily broken?
I havd my Atrix repaired several times because of digitizer.
3. Are the current ICS roms stable enough?
And, does unlocking bootloader/flashing a custom rom easy?
How about gaming?
4. Sensation's spec better than Atrix or not?
I mean, for normal web or apps using, 768MB ram is enough?

Ok so not biased answer it worth it but if you can expand your budget little bit more might aswell get a galaxy nexus however for your question :
#1 : battery life is pure crap on stock battery unless you get an anker otherwise you can get more then 1-2 hours screen on time..
It depends how you use your phone if you game alot alot ot heats up easily but i do normal use sometimes it gets hot but overall it isn't that bad..
#2 : build quality is quite good feels good in the hand it isnt easily breakable but keep in mind if you drop your sensation there is always a chance of cracking the screen...
#3 : yes ics roms are really stable most of the have 90% of the things working there is some small issues such as on aosp roms or cm9 wiping sd card will hard brick your phone otherwise things like camera and so on works...
i cant really answer to this one as my phone was already s-off unlocked bootloader but from the forums it seems quite hard...
Gaming is good if you'd ask me but it still lags a little bit on gta 3
#4 : yes specs are better and ram is plenty enough on sense rom i always have 250mb free and on aosp roms about 340mb free..
But as i said having a anker is a must if your an moderate user !

1. decent/average.. and yea it gets hot.. depends on your kernel setup too
2. there are several hardware defects that affect random people. digitizer, deathgrip, low speaker quality, etc.. mines been fine so i cant really add much to this. pretty solid build though, sort of typical of HTC
3. 90-99.9% stable, still a few things here and there.. not necessarily to do with our phone but with ICS in general. VERY easy to unlock and root and get s-off.. but ive been doing this to htc phones for years so i guess experience counts. gaming is as it should be. some games might not work with certain sense 4.0 or other ICS roms for some. everything works for me though
4. yes. especially if you decide to do the CM/MIUI/AOSP/AOKP route (aka sense-less, lol) youll have more than enough free memory

The bug about it reformatting the NAND and not the SD card has been fixed and is no longer present in the current ASOP or AOKP builds, but to be safe I recommend only using AOSP or AOKP builds from April to current. But the rest of the info you gave is pretty spot on,
Also the current method of S-off for Hboot versions 1.21.0000 and up is Juopunutbear S-off is a little tricky because you have to use the wire trick. But if you follow the guides that are in this forum you should not have to much trouble.

I have a Htc Senseation and ive had heaps of phones, battery life for me..is okish with screen brightness lowered but i would like to get a anker battery,
The ICS Roms are really Good for me i love the Team PKMN with the little tweaks makes it very more..my own
Ive only had about 3 issues, 1 Boot looping..and that was due to my own fault.
2 a Camera issue with a rom but that was due to my own error
3 a couple of random shutdowns from something but again..my own fault.
Basically i have Setcpu , System Tuner , And cputuner running
im 18 and i was able to root it so if you have any experience rooting..you should had NO issues, just post and ask around most people are very helpful to guide you with a how to So Far my fav phone.

On stock GB & battery I was getting 12hrs life with only 1 or 2hr screen time, with ICS (VI ROM) and Anker battery I get between 1 and 2 days life and up to 9hrs screen time.
Everyone's usage is different but there's nothing wrong with the hardware.
The only limitation is the custom ROM scene, most developers bypassed or moved on from the Sensation. Custom ROMs are miles better than stock, but development is pretty static now.
Based on my personal experience, I will not buy a HTC phone again. This is a shame considering I have the Desire as well.
I have been plagued by the following problems:
death grip ( i know most phones experience this at some point, but this is no excuse )
missed calls - even with a full signal strength, my phone would not even ring
reboots at random intervals
HTC do make good phones, but apparently the One X on the Vodafone UK network is also plagued by signal loss.
I love my sensation!
Yes its worth getting! battery life can be worked with I got a long lasting battery it makes a huge difference! Rooting can be difficult depending on your h boot version but I promise its well worth it and very do able. Just follow the guide to s off and rooting. You will do fine. Ice Never had problems with my device and I flash a lot. Mine has proven sturdy and solid. I have no complaints. I really enjoy everything about my device! Ics custom roms have proven to be more stable than stock roms! ice never got a reboot on a custom ROM and ice tried several, even sense 4. I can honestly say I'm still enjoying my device! Thanks to the developers here at xda. If your rooted you make your device rudely your own. if you don't like something just change it. the customization is wonderful! You can create a device thats truely yours with the help of rooting, roms, kernels, and mods! Its always fresh never boreing! I think you will be completely happy. I know I am! Your not stuck with something you don't like because you change and modify it to what you want. I don't understand how anyone can complain about that! You have the ability to change it on the deepest levels. My advice is to try many roms until you find what suits you! Then you can change kernels and mods and really customize your device. Warning its highly addictive lol. bottom line IM still happy after a year. I think you will be also. I must say rooting is a must! Also s off. Then you will be on your way to making your device custom AND TRUELY your own creation! Enjoy every step of the way! I think you will love it! I know I do. Best of luck and have fun!

Your not getting 9h screen on time no matter what post some pics! I the sgs3 which has 2100mah cannot achieve that...
By the way add like 40$ more and you can get the galaxy nexus off the market place here on xda really at that price it doesn't worth it...

Just to chip in here, I'm a complete noob at this stuff but a few days ago I just followed this guide and went from stock ICS to rooted with a custom ROM in only a few hours, and much of that was spent waiting for files to download. I highly recommend you follow it, and if you do, modify step 4b a little bit. Everything Superwipe does can be done by a 4EXT wipe, so replace step 4b with:
Download the custom ROM you want, you don't need Superwipe
Place the zip on your sd card
Reboot into recovery
Perform a full wipe ("wipe | format" --> "format all partitions (except sd card)")
Enable smartflash ("tools" --> "enable 4EXT SmartFlash")
Flash the new ROM ("install from sd card" --> "choose zip from sd card" --> select zip)
And once you're rooted you can repeat this process as many times as you want each time you want to try out a new ROM
HTC sensation is worth every penny. I am inloved with this phone. I have been using one since January. I rooted it and installed a custom ROM on it. The phone fits perfectly with my needs. It is fast enough, nice design, good material quality so, yeah, I reccomend it.
Now, is it possible for me to downgrade 4est recovery from v2.... to v.1 and stuff RC?
The damn speaker is so awesome, I've made a conscious decision not to buy a HTC phone again. Galaxy s 3 or the eagerly awaited Google nexus with jelly bean should be a wise choice.

I would suggest a Nexus instead. Google has decreased $50 off the original price, so that's $350 for an unlocked phone, with superior specs than the Sensation, for pretty much a similar price and priority OTA updates from Google. It'll be getting JB anything now.

I've had my infinity for a couple of weeks now and I'm really frustrated with the lag. I want to unlock it but I've heard stories of people who owned one and a manufacturer defect didn't appear for a month. For example a couple of black lines appearing that won't go away. So far I haven't found any defects but I'm worried that if I unlock then something will happen and I can't return it.

In the meantime while you're deciding whether to unlock or not, go into "Settings / Developer Options" and put a check in "Force GPU rendering". Then under "Window animation scale", Transition animation scale" and "Animator duration scale", disable all of those.
I go tired of the slideshow animations, so I disabled them all. My tablet has the appearance of snappiness now. Rooting, unlocking, and romming my tablet didn't get rid of the horrible slideshow. Disabling animations does.

A bit of a tough call...boils down to luck of the draw so to speak.
Asus may give you grief even with a locked tab.
My own experience:
Had the Infinity since July 2012.
Minor light bleed at first: diminished to a point where it isn't noticeable.
Some clicking around the glass at first: one spot now above the power port-no issue for me since this tablet is in a Bobj case.
Unlocked and re-rommed with original CleanROM around October\November or whenever JB first was pushed.
Few months to go and my tab will be a year old so if I make it with no hardware failures unlocking was the best option for me.

I dropped this tab off a nightstand 4 weeks ago and dinged the corner (it was in a light folio) it never skipped a beat.
Bottom line

Ok thanks. Disabling the animations and enabling force gpu rendering solved my problems with lag. So for now I have no need to unlock. My plan now is to wait a month or maybe 2 and then unlock if no issues come up. Thanks for the advice

I'm aware to not make a lot of friends in saying this ... but I found the stock JB ROM a decent system. For me it has not really been as bad as you can read here a lot. Have to say though that I never had to use the ICS stock version, which seemingly really was not a good choice.
I have unlocked mine and flashed a custom ROM, but in my case more for the fun of it. Using the stock ROM until your warranty runs out is a good option. You might look into rooting it anyway, which will not harm your warranty.

Why would you not have friends by saying stock is good?
Non-stock ROMs have seen tremendous success their ongoing development is just icing on the cake.
I'm sure there are thousands of happy users that have no idea that aftermarket ROMs even exist.

Just thought because everyone is beating on the fact that only custom ROMs make this thing fly. Again, I'm a very new Infinity user, my only experience with stock ROMs is from using the JB 10.4.4.25 version. And this is a good choice in my opinion.

The stock ROM is mixed bag -- some have actually preferred ICS to JB, and there are some that prefer it the other way around. Nonetheless, I'd be surprised if you wouldn't prefer custom ROMs to the stock versions once you unlock and flash away.
I do underwrite fully your statement that if the stock ROM doesn't bother you, it's not that of an immediate need to unlock and flash a custom ROM, especially if you are an easily frightened Infinity owner.
I know this forum seems aimed at custom ROMs.
Certainly no need if one is pleased with the tablet in it's pure form.
XDA is a site that used to forge development vs. troubleshooting.
It's all good tho...everyone enjoys helping as much as possible.

thanks. actually i am one of the more aggressive action types of people. i rooted my phone and installed a custom rom within an hour of getting it lol. I really want to unlock my tab because i love custom roms, however it is an expensive device and i have heard stories of the poor quality control asus has. If it weren't for that i would have unlocked it and installed cromi a few days after getting it.

So is CM 10.1 just as amazing as cromi?? I like CM customizing options..
I don't think it's a good price personally wish the forms still allowed selling.I would look around more even on like swappa the official website for selling on XDA.

I am a *huge* CRomI fan, but from what I understood, CM10.1 is getting there. It doesn't have as high benchmarks, but it is still smooth and has also gotten rid of the IO issue.
I'd say try 'em both and choose which one you like best.
I chose for CRomI because CM10.1 wasn't as great when I first had to flash a custom rom, and I was so pleased with the result and the integration with some Asus specific stuff (such as the keyboard dock, the IPS+ toggle, etc) that I chose not to cheat on sdbags' awesome rom
However, I am sure that if I had to make the same decision today, it'd be a lot harder.

hey you all. im shopping for a used tablet and I have seen a few of these TF700 and also tf300 going online for around $150 10.1 screen.looks like the tf300 is the lower model version

What about the ME302C asus? I can get one for about the same price. Specs look better and the tablet is newer

Rooting custom rom
But I made up my mind. Im going to get the Asus ME302 instead of this. Seems better and same price. But i dont see a section for the 302 device (sad face)

there is a good chance that means there is no development on it, like roms... search for the modding process on what ever you buy before you buy so you don't get disappointed.

So now my choices are the me301t, tf300
Changed my mind again. i think im going to go with this tablet.. The screen and quad core got my heart, i could get a me302 btu the screen is not as good as this one
go ahead and get a class 10 sd card too then. apparently rom2sd is the only way to get these things to work but i haven't confirmed that first hand...yet.
With the right rom and data2sd (rom2sd is for dual booting - doesn't add anything to performance) the TF700 is a really nice tablet.
But check prices for the TF701. They've been coming down and even with the best custom rom on the TF700, the TF701 is MUCH better even on stock.
But then - the development community around the TF700 is wider, very active, loads of fun and deeply dedicated to make it the best it can be.
Much less going on in the TF701 forums and that it is pretty darn good out of the box probably has a lot to with it.
For the record: I own both and have been tinkering with both for close to 2 and 1 year respectively.
I just got the TF700 after coming from the TF300. I must say while I like the TF700 screen reso, I cannot believe the amount of jittery-ness it has. The TF300 is smooth as butter. But the TF700 has some jittery-ness to it. Even simple things like switching home page you can see a bit of stuttering going on. Opening apps drawer is the same thing. (I'm using apex launcher btw). I'm not a huge gamer. Mainly was gonna use this for development and movies/web browsing. Which is does just fine. I highly recommend the TF701 though. I may just sell both my tablets for the TF701. However, like berndblb said, there is a lot of development going on for the TF700. TF701 is non existent (Too new i guess?)
EDIT: About data2sd, never used it and never had to. Don't know why everyone thinks you absolutely need it. because you dont.

Well - non-existent is a bit harsh. pershoot is maintaining CM and sbdags has a CROMi-X for the 701. There's another unofficial AOSP that I have not tried.
If you never tried data2sd you don't know what you're missing
Especially on the TF700 with it's slow emmc (did you say jittery-ness, did you mention stuttering? LOL) it does make quite a difference.

Yeah I guess non-existent is a bit harsh . Pershoot is doing a great job from what it looks. I am trying to stick with LP for my development device to make sure my apps work on the latest version of Android.
And when I said jittery-ness, its seems more GPU related then writing to the memory blocks. Like simply switching home pages, how's that related to writing to memory?
came across a asus 301T for $75.. are those any good?
