Friends, here I am absolutely newbie. there something I wanna ask about my J hotspot portable.
I live in the dormitory such has no internet access for the student while i need it. so I use my J as the AP and can reach the internet throuh my laptop. But, since my room is next to other,my friend steal my hotspot and taking my quota. I already secure my hotspot with WPA2 but he take my password even when I already change it.
I have an idea about not to broadcast my SSID on my hotspot android AP. I would appreciate anyone who told me something about this matter. I already change my AP name become "virus","virus if click", or something like that, but it doesn't work. Please give me a help.

Maybe you should make the password as long as possible, possibly with some weird symbol combinations.

My friend is using such kind of wifi hacker tool, so one of the way I could get safe is not to broadcast my ssid.
Another way is to use usb tether menu. Just plug the usb, pick usb tether, and get those rndis drivers (xp).

I've tried it bro, but th connection is not as fast as it does in hotspot potable mode.

Very simple...turn off wifi from your router, connect with ethernet cable your laptop...

Not fast? I can get max speed at 3mbps download with rndis LAN showing 425mbps when switching to wcdma only mode.

Might want to be a bit more specific there. From what you're saying, it sounds like you're trying to do what bedalus said.
If what you mean is that you want to access your wired internet service wirelessly to your phone, you're going to need to pick up a wireless router or something.

The second part is true, i want to access the wired internet service and i have an wireless usb dongle(adaptor), also i want to share files with pc wireless.
What PS do u have? With Windows 7 you can create an ad-hoc under network sharing center -> set Up a Connection or Network -> Set up a wireless ad hockey (computer-to-computer) network. Then you can just follow the instructions on the pc

i created an adhoc connection, but the phone don't see it, also i read that that nexus s cannot do adhoc connections, it is true?

Yes you are right. Nexus s does not support ad hoc. I am sorry, I did not know that. This is weird even iDevices support it.
You can try ZT180 adhoc switcher from the market. But I cannot guarantee it will work. Because I have not tried it by myself.
Another option is using Connectify from windows 7 PC. I don't know about apple PCs. But connectify can turn your windows 7 PC into a real access point router. Not just a ad-hoc.
Well the last option is get a wifi router. What internet do you use? I am sure you can have a wifi router for all internet connections. NO matter you have ADSL, Broadband(Ethernet? I don't really know how to call it) even 3g or 4g connection can be wifi-routered! You just need to pick a correct device since NS does not support ad-hoc.

Under "Password" field in Connectify , you have an option "Internet". There you can select your internet connection to share. Hope that works!
I mean i select the win7 default connection " Local Area Connection", and set it to shared, but the Connectify connection (access point) doesn't have network access, i don't know why, i tried almost 10 times, it just doesn't work.

Update: I think i solved it, i just turn off the firewall of ESET and windows, and it works fine, thank u guys

I installed bernacle wifi tether in the X8, and I set it up.
I tryied to connecto to this ad-hoc from my xoom but I couldn't. I tryied all the wpa_supplicant files I found googling.
Wifi analyzer sees the ad-hoc but when I try to connect it says that ad-hoc is not jet supported in android.
Any Ideas?

I tryied it, and I couldn't make it work. Also I tryied using infrastructure but it didn't work in X8.

I need to use barnacle as well because im on Verizon.....and the answer that I've gotten is that were probably never going to get ad hoc support.

Dyelon, I'm new to tablets, I think I'm missing something.
My Xoom is Wifi Only (no carrier lock). My xperia X8 is locked for Clarot (Telmex). When I tether on the X8 my laptot sees the ad-hoc network, Wifi Analyzer (on the Xoom) also sees the ad-hoc network (and when you try to connect to it Wifi Alayzer says that ad-hoc networks are not supported by android), but I cannot connect to it (Android doesn't see it)

I have an Xperia L over 1 month and have not had any problems with wifi, I connect to all networks!
I have xperia more than a month and founded that its unable to connect to my friends wifi. But far no problem with connecting to other network.
I think its unable to connect maybe due to old modem ? His modem has around 6 years.

Maybe your friends' router has a setting that doesn't allow any new WLAN connections...Can he connect any other new,to the router,devices?

Yes he can as he connected his new tablet to his wifi. I have no idea why I'm unable to connect.

This might sound stupid but I have no idea how did XL connect to my friends wifi. I asked him did he do anything to his wifi and he said no but he haved to connect everything again as the was drop of electricity at our city and after that I think it does work. Maybe you should power off everything in your home and power it one for a period of like 2 seconds ?

I have the AC66R, which is the same version. I enabled VPN server, added a UN and it worked for me. How fast is your upload?

I setup on win 8 with the vpn guide over here and I got it to work ..but after I enable and set vpn...
my USB-N53 network adapter going crazy if I change network to 2.4 or 5
it stock all my pc and take a lot of time to connect why is that ?
and when I try to delete the vpn completely ..from my pc the problem stay ..so...how can I delete complete the vpn ? from my pc ..
and there is other why that will not make the usb adapter slow response ?

My PC is connected to internet via cable and it doesn't have WiFi.
Also I cannot connect my phone via cable. However, I have a plug and play bluetooth dongle that I can easily attach to it

it's more easy if you have a wifi pc card to make it share using Ad Hoc...
if your pc has it, turn it on a adHOC that enables to share your connection via wifi to your xperia.
or try the hard way using bluetooth.. (lol)
