[POLL] Lag | no Lag, Made in Korea or China? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

I know this thread exists in pretty much every other Samsung built phone forum, and I know that this is by no means going to be conclusive, but just curious. See poll.
If you have issues beyond general lag, feel free to post in replies.
Made in Korea, notice a little lag (definitely not as sharp as my GNex, but to be expected), biggest lag comes from accessing pics from external sd (even with sandisk 64gb class 10 xc1 card).
(Mods if this is wrong section or redundant, feel free to delete, and my apologies in advance.)

When you say you have the biggest lag accessing external sd card pictures, how much lag and at what point are you talking about?
Just trying to make sure I'm on the same lag page.

This and also. People have different views on what "big lag" is. We need to have some kind of testing method or video of the phone lagging.
My phone is Korean, and it lags a bit sometimes. Like sometime when I go to home screen the weather widget refreshes, and sometimes the keyboard lags when typing but not swiping.
I've just gotten used to crappy bloated TouchWiz.
To me its absolutely normal lag, but to someone else it could be unacceptable and they might try to get their units replaced.
S3 was same story, but after custom ROMS it was totally fine that's why I'm not even worrying about this.
Besides I assume there will also be a needed firmware update soon.

For me, when I said biggest, I meant biggest relative to all the other actions when using the phone. It takes a clear "0..1..2..3..4" seconds for me to open the gallery portion of pictures stored on my sd card, never had that issue with my old note 2. It also takes a clea "0..1..2..3" seconds for me to open a picture I just took.
I'm getting my replacement unit Tuesday, just hoping it was something with my initial device.
In terms of the lag on the phone, things tend to hang for a couple of seconds when pressed. The worst offender (which I've since removed) is sliding to any screen with the weather widget, it take a good 3 seconds. But the worst part is it bogs down the phone where everything takes time to open. Agreed, a cleaner TW ROM will clear up the issues, was throwing this out there moreso on whether there were any hardware issues. Seems no one has received a made in China s4 yet, so there goes my theory. LOL.

For me, I have 3 S 4 phones and all are made in Korea and I have 0 lag. Only on one of them did I turn off all the animation stuff but there is no noticeable difference between that one and the other two. I have to tell you though, lag, unless very blatant, is relative to what you were using before the S 4. Those who were running custom ROM's might find the difference but me, coming from a rooted S3, no custom anything, find the S 4 to be much faster. I gave it to two Nexus 4 stock users and they too found it incredibly smooth and fast. All I have done is disable the bloat. I'm happy. All this lag talk had me very nervous before my phones actually arrived. Someone mentioned slowness is switching between the dialer and contacts and I have not experienced that at all, even with 150 contacts. Hope it stays that way.

Please do not check "yes this is a question" for any thread in General as all Qs go in Q&A. If you want a POLL please put it in the title.
I have edited it for you.

Ricoh and Canon PDF's run smooth as silk in my external sd card.

Take a look at my other thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263015
I had the same exact problem as you. Tons of lag, especially when accessing the memory card after taking a picture.
The first thing to do is reformat your SDcard. Next step would be to swap the phone out.

I got the S4 last night. First thing I did was disable all the bloat apps. Been using it and it is smooth. I have over 1000 pics on my 32GB samsung micro sd and the Gallery is smooth. It took about a second to open, but all the folders in it load up quickly. Clicked on pics and they open right away. I have no lag switching between home screens either, but I don't have a live wallpaper on.
I had an S3 before this.

My S4 from China had big problems.
My S4 from Korea seems to be working as advertised.

I have the Korean model but apps like to freeze and be slow INCLUDING the stock browser, The stock browser runs WORSE than Chrome for once.
Ive owned a good amount of phones so I notice lag when it happens, but its not so much as laggy but unstable.

My Korean model has lag issues as well. A factory reset did seem to help a bit though, but I still feel that it's not where it should be.

Try Kies or Odin... on phone factory reset is not that great.

Hey guys please post your SKU and REV numbers. Cause those could be hardware batches as well... That would help keep track better...
But mine is from Korea

My phone and wifes are made in Korea and have no lag what so ever or other issues. This from S3 is like night and day.

Ditto, not one problem
every so often i get an 'Xperia Home' FC. nothing that can't be fixed with a reboot though
Overall I like the phone, but there are a few bummers you should be aware of (it certainly isn't flawless):
(1) The D6603 I got is 16 gb (weak sauce) and if you keep the device stock, there is no option to move app data to storage. Usually 16 gb is enough for regular apps, but if you download games then you'll quickly run out of space. And so far, you CANNOT move app data to the SD card (only media). From what I understand this is a Android 4.4.4 issue or policy
(2) I'm a heavy media user and you can't manage your media via file explorers (I like ES file explorer the best). Because of the space issue, I keep all my media on the SD card but can't delete them using the phone only. I have to connect to a PC via USB (sort of a hassle and very iphone-ish). When I try to delete, it says something about security in Android 4.4.4
(3) The way to solve (2) is to root the phone. But oh yea, if you unlock the bootload and root the phone you lose DRM keys and your camera will not perform well in low light.
I unlocked bootload and rooted my old phone (HTC One M7) and loved the freedom and functionality I got, but I also realized the camera went bad (I am just guessing it is the same thing - losing DRM keys, but am not certain). I am hesitant to unlock / root this phone because I want a decent camera and do'nt want to lose other functionality that really sold me on the phone (the PS4 remote play).
Oh and (4) At least for me, the remote play is sort of laggy, but I have yet to test this thoroughly. Looks like I'll be able to play RPGs, but maybe not action games (am really looking forward to Far Cry 4).
Just an FYI on #2 above that you can actually write to the SD card using the internal "File Commander" app. I also much prefer ES but it doesn't write to the SD card. File Commander will let you copy stuff around no problem because it's a pre-loaded app. It doesn't show hidden files unless you fork over some bucks though - to bad Sony didn't just pre-install ES.
Seems you can even uninstall File Commander then re-install it and it still lets you write to the SD card. When I first got my phone I uninstalled File Commander and installed ES. Then discovered ES couldn't write to the SD Card (didn't know why at the time) so I re-installed File Commander and was able to write to the card again.
As for the phone itself, I agree with the others - this is a fantastic phone. I upgraded from a Galaxy Nexus though, so it was quite a jump to this one.
The size is right, performance is great and battery life is awesome.
My minor complaints:
- Sony should have pre-installed a file manager that lets you see hidden files without forking over more money.
- I find the magnetic connector to be a bit of a pain. I prefer the 'pogo pins' in the Nexus for desktop charging.
- The status pulls down when you tap the top of the screen instead of pulling down from the top. I often drop it down unintentionally.
- It's real slippery with the glass back.
thanks guys for all of your responses
The non TMO versions don't seem to have many issues. Its the D6616 (T-Mobile) you should be worried about, according to TMO QC on that model was not great, they are waiting for new batches to get better QC. They told me I was not the only one with multiple exchanges, it's happened at other stores in other states. My first one was actually mailed to me....
That's why I said buy directly from TMO you can sift through the stock and pick. If you get the D6616 from Sony and get a bad apple won't be as easy, you have to do a warranty replacement which takes time.
Mine also none problem.

I've had the phone for 2 weeks. Here are the cons of this phone:
-128 gb storage SD is more space than I currently need
-Phone looks so nice, I'm worried someone will want to steal it
-I had to stretch a lot farther on my last phone to hit the power buttons, so now my hand isn't sore anymore. This leads to the ability to masturbate more, which is becoming addictive for me, thus a problem.
-The feel is so perfect that everything else in the world seems pale in comparison
-So many people ask me about my phone when I see it that I'm running out of room for facebook friends
-Too many girls want to have sex with me because I own the Z3 and it's distracting me from work.
Other than that, great phone. Would recommend to the OP
Screen is too blue. Auto mode on camera comes out awful. Speaker notifications only come out of one speaker. Message tones are too quiet. Tap to wake doesn't always work. Speakers crackle with some sounds/video's/youtube etc. SD port flap is not flush with phone. Too many fingerprints on back of black phone. Apps force close here and there. Wallpaper takes too long to load once unlocked. Lockscreen can take too long to come up. Apps lock up sometimes so trying to get back to homescreen sometimes lags.
I'm sure there's more, but it's far from perfect.
Nice phone though and it is waterproof.
Couple of issues difficult to root and lack of custom roms.
Screen size bit small.
Camera not as good as note 4.
Very slippery but still like the finish.
Internal memory.
Overall nice looking phone not quite high range at best when compared to Note 4. Much better then Z2 but not enough of an upgrade.
No problems that I can find so far. I hate reading these forums just for this reason too. One thing I have noticed which doesn't bother me but not sure if it's suppose to be this way is that the power button has a bit of a wobble from side to side to it. Also, yea it's very slippery so hopefully nothing happens before I get my TPU case for it haha.

I must be lucky as my Tmo one has been top notch.
The only issue I'm seeing is Tmo blocks tethering. But as I understand it all grandfathered plans will be dropped and the Simple Choice plans have a bucket of Tether anyway.

So far, ix-nay. All the ones I've found have been disabled on the Z3. Can't even add dun to the APN types and there's a Kitkat bug where Foxfi won't work.
But, like I say, in maybe a month everyone on tmobile post-pay will have a tethering plan anyway. They're dropping old grandfathered plans.
I have a D6616 that I got on day 1 of the T-Mobile release and I have had zero problems with the phone. The stock messenger app is terrible coming from a LG G3, but other than that I have no complaints at all.

[Q] Talk me out of getting a G Flex 2

So we've all read and watched review after review of the laggy, thermal throttling, flop of a device the G Flex 2 is. Nonetheless, I'm still interested in this device, and I do not know why. Maybe because I enjoy tinkering and using tech that others don't. Maybe because reading some owners' reviews here seem to paint a different picture.
Are you happy with this device and feel a lot of the issues were addressed?
The only thing holding me back is the total lack of a dev community. This seems to be held up by a current un-unlockable bootloader, correct? I really don't like skinned Android, but have honestly never used LG's skin before. If a CM or stock port could be guaranteed I think I'd pull the trigger on this.
Thoughts?

There are no guarantees but I am happy with my choice. I use the us model which has 3 GB of ram. Never even had one stutter. It also does not get very warm like my nexus 6 did. The only downfall I have is being on at&t I will likely never see an update.
Sent from my LG-H950 using XDA Premium HD app
Well, here it goes..
First of all, I have H955 version ( 16gb/2gb).
A couple of days ago , I read that a 5.1.1 update is starting to roll out, which is pretty great, taking the fact that many MANY other devices are still on 4.4 and 5.0. That said, a user that got the update , said that now we have an option for OEM unlock, which is a step closer for getting custom roms ( at least, I think ). Also, update also brings some under the hood optimizations , such is less buggy home and lower temperature while using the phone.
Now, my opinions with the current 5.0.1 - and you have to believe me on this - I have no lags. At all. Those slow downs are just not there - luncher gets reset sometimes after using chrome, and the phone gets hotter when using it for a long period of time, but other than that.. Phone works awesome, apps open instantly, launcher is not buggy etc..
Next the heating issue - it is only there when I play games, browse in chrome for some time (although, sometimes faster , after 2,3 minutes of browsing - dont know why).
The screen - this is very IMPORTANT . Some users, like me, have yellow spots on display when there is a grey background - only visible on that and maybe some greyish bcgrnds AND with brightness turned to 0%.. A say this is important because it can be annoying from time to time - IF YOU CAN SEE IT! Some users have no such issue (if it is an issue). It is a part of production process etc etc etc.
To summarize - I like my g flex 2 . You can see that from all the above. It is great looking, fast phone with great camera. What else is there not to like? It is a personal preference though. There are many great phones out there, like the upcoming LG G4, SG Note 4, HTC OneM9 and many other phones. If you ask me , I would always choose flex 2, and with the upcoming 5.1 android (I cant wait for it) it is a win. I am aware that many users are reporting lags and issues with the phone but I dont have them.
Take your time. Take in consideration , for example , new LG G4. Talk to someone else who has this phone. But in the end, dont let someone convince you in to buying any phone - you will be using it, and you will have to live with its pros and cons. Big text, I know, live long and prosper.
And I think the same way. Is it possible that the G Flex 2 so bad? I have a G3 with CM based rom and I am very pleased with it. But the design of the G Flex 2 like very much. Weak development support for it worries me and if so I'll probably have to skip it.

If you can, i suggest that you wait 2-3 months. Not only for price drop but to see how the other 810 phones settle down. If you read reviews of other810 phones and check their performance all seem to suffer fron the same problems. For example xiaomi mi note pro, nubia z9,htc m9, even oneplus 2. If you like big dev community oneplus 2 is your choise.
I personally bought flex2 because we had in greece a big discount for only one day 300euro unlocked. If i had missed the discount i would have waited 2-3 months

For me this is my 6th phone in one year so I can compare pretty good.
I must say it is not a bad phone. Have some lag here and there but it is manageable. It is not that smooth as an oneplus one for instance.
The heating is there, don't expect to play games for long, as the heating eats the battery.
General Battery performance is ok, I have there no complaints.
I also like the camera it is one of the best I used so far.
I think this is a solid phone but the standard price is just to high. If you pay the full price I would not go for the Flex. For that money you are better of with a more standard phone like the G4. It is more reliable and will get more attention during the years.
I got my for 400USD, for that I think it is okay, but still not that good value as an oneplus one.
Sent from my LG-H955 using XDA Forums
I really love mine although I had my problems with it at first. Mine had a tendency to thermal throttle fairly easily but even then it was quite fast and smooth. After adding a copper shim and modifying the thermal configuration file I like it a lot more. Although it wasn't slow before it's now even smoother and faster. I have the AT&T 3GB version which seems to not suffer from the kind of lag the 2GB version initially had. I'm also really impressed at how many apps I can open without them closing in the background. Battery life is about the same as my Galaxy S4 with a 3000mah battery. It really depends on what you do. It has great standby time but if you push it really hard like a complex 3d game it may not be so great. On normal use I get about 4 to 5 hours of on screen time. Mine also came with light yellowish tint that really wasn't very obvious unless I had a white or grey background. I still asked AT&T for a replacement and the new one came with a much even toned display and no more yellow.

Best thing to do is wait a bit if you can, just to see if development picks up.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Ya, this phone interested me for some reason.
I'll keep checking back.
My 50 cent's
G3 is a little smaller with same screen size, a lot better resolution (i can see pixels on G Flex2 from close distance) on a nearly half the price, so it is up to You
P.S.
G3 is looking better (but this is personal teist)
P.P.S.
I have G3 and from 2 days is using Flex2
I love the Flex 2. it's a great phone. i am using it since release in Germany and in the first two weeks it gets very fast very hot, but since an update everything is fine. Great battery life, a lot of Power. But if i can change it, i would pick the 3GB RAM model
I dont have the phone either so im in the same boat as you. I would wait for the g4 to come out not just because its going to be an amazing phone. But if lg is using some unlockable bootloader they will probably use it on the g4 as well and if that happens it will get unlocked much faster since its a flag ship. With any luck then that can be applied to the g flex and cm for all.

I didn't think the Snapdragon 810 could use anything but DDR4. Honestly I don't think there's a way to tell but considering how much the 3GB version costs as well I would assume it does have DDR4.
you are probably right! I just couldn't confirm it 100% the reason that the difference doesn't show up in benchmarks maybe be fault in memory controller. lol
I got a really good price for the phone so I'm biased. That being said I did go for the phone because of the design itself and it's not a choice that I regret.
For the first couple of days having the phone I did experience the overheating issue. I tend to back up my devices and reset them often and in this case I found that a full factory restore solved the overheating issue.
As for the lag it's noticeable from time to time if you have multiple things going on at once like playing a game while downloading files while streaming music.
As stated earlier with the g4 right around the corner I was certainly wait and see how that one pans out giving its going to have that much better of a system on the inside, and possibly the ability to use custom roms, which I do miss.

I had the LS996 (32GB/2GB) version of G Flex 2. It is freakin terrible. If I wasn't so busy this past month, I would've traded it in. It was so bad that I spent a hundred dollars and got a GS5. Even after the ZV5 update and the thermal and hotplug mods I've made, it still over heated, froze, and lagged... I called it quits when I started having to do a force shut down (holding the power button until the phone turns off).
I have the 32GB / 2GB model. In my experience, the screen is a little grainy, but I'm fine with it. With the latest 10d update, the phone is a lot cooler, although it will still thermal throttle after some usage. Performance is a lot better as well, but it still can be improved. It continues to freeze in Chrome, so I use the stock web browser that comes with it. When the phone is hot, browsing through menus becomes sluggish and slow, something I really hope they will fix. Battery life is okay, but when you start playing games, or do any processor intensive stuff, it becomes real bad. (Probably the Snapdragon 810's fault) Camera photos are a little washed out, not as sharp as other phone cameras out there, but it produces very vibrant colours. Focusing is a little slow at times, laser focus not working too well, especially up close to an object. The self-healing back isn't doing a very good job. Just being in my pocket (with nothing else) and placing the phone on some tables, it has collected up many scratches. Screen brightness doesn't go very low, so I use an app called Lux to take care of that.
The Dual Window feature is limited to certain apps, unlike Samsung's Multi-Window, but at least it's there. QSlide is useless for me, and so is Quick Memo. Knockcode, on the other hand, is nice to have, very convenient to unlock the phone with one hand. But if you happen to use face unlock, it might interfere with knock code, and you might end up just locking the phone by using the double tap feature, since the phone unlocks when you are still knocking the code.
It's still running Android 5.0.1, so I hope all of this can change with the 5.1 update or when Android M gets released in the future.
I got this phone, because I wanted to try something new. It's a curved screen that can bend, of course it would catch my eye. Even hearing about all the overheating problems, I decided to invest in this two years journey with this phone. Overall, I regretted, an S6 is a better choice in my opinion, it runs a lot better. But if you are all-in for the curved screen, I suggest you wait a while more to see how this phone performs in future updates.

For the dual window there is a mod if you check the android developement thread. It needs editing build. prop. It works ok as far as i experienced.

Yeah, was using it until the 10d update. There seems to be a problem during the rooting process after the update, so I can't use the mod now.

returning the LGv20...

I feel like this phone is a great phone for a small audience.. And that's for music lovers.. Other than that this phone is actually pretty bad... The camera is useless with all the grain.. The screen is horrible at night it bleeds out so much.. The UI is disgusting.. And OMG THE LAG IS ABSURD.. How they released a phone thats constatly lagging..
Tbh very disappointed I have never returned a phone in my life. And I buy almost every phone that's release... Now I have no option to switch to iphone 7 until I can find a pixel xl for a good deal...

Is this a joke? This phone is smooth as butter especially compared to the v10, you're either running it with a poorly performing sdcard or you've got a defect.
UI is disgusting? What it's like every other freaking phone. There are plenty of 3rd party launchers to change it as you see fit.
Camera I am unsure of since I haven't really used it much yet but I am sure its not horrible like you're claiming.
Either way good luck with whatever phone you choose next. I am being sincere if my phone was like that I'd change too but mine has been good so far.

Don't take this the wrong way. I'm just explaining my experience owning the phone since October so that you have more info about its capability.
Are you on a stock phone?
The rooting process and custom roms have allowed Dev's to fix many of the issues that existed on stock.
Lag? Mine is fast as sh*t. I came from the note 4 with one of the best custom roms (tx_dbs_tx) and this phone is much faster.
I'm on OvrDrive's rom and couldn't be happier. The latest update has the camera working faster and taking exceptional pictures. Better than my note 4.
Yes, the screen is not a sammy. When we are able to integrate kcal it will be close. I had kcal on an early rom version that really made the screen look good. Unfortunately, we have had problems with modifying the kernel, but I believe it is only a matter of time until it can be done safely.
I'm using a custom theme which looks great, especially at night. I don't spend a lot of time looking at my phone in a pitch black room, so I rarely see the bleed. This is the price you pay for a second screen, which I really like. I wouldn't trade the second screen for a phone without the second screen just to lose the bleed which I only see .01% of the time.
I got my wife an S7 edge. It is stock. Other than the great sammy screen, there is nothing that would make me consider trading my V20. I have so much more control over my phone than hers and can do much more.
If you are on stock, then maybe that is the problem. Rooted with a custom rom is great. If you aren't willing to go down that road, then, yes you should switch.

I am rooted. I have had the phone for about 10 days. I am on weta rom.. Is just I feel like this phone is phone is not the android experience I am used to.. I used the s7edge as well and did not like it either.. I am more of stock android. And I am starting to realize why people refuse to use anything but stock android.. I have had zero used for the second screen yeah it looks nice and I can see someone use it. But not me.. And the camera is. Really bad like dammed I think the nexus 6p takes netter pics. Selfies look like you have makeup.. Even with beauty turned off. AGAIN THIS IS MU EXPERIENCE.. Is my device defective?. Idk but highly doubt it.
I understand with the camera. I came from the v10 (also tmobile) and I can't figure out why the camera on the v20 takes such blurry/water color grainy what ever you call it pictures sometimes. Still hoping it's a software fix because the hardware is there. Should be at least as good as the v10 if not better... And it's not.
As for lag, I don't get it. Mine was smooth and fast for a while but now it lags sometimes. Open a text and count to 5 while I wait to see when it feels like actually popping up.
Sometimes I'm typing and waiting for the letters to pop up.
Ugh.
I wonder if it could be blamed on my SD card... It's the 200gb card that came with the v10.
I use SwiftKey keyboard. Never had a problem with lag before so I don't think it's the keyboard's fault.
My v10 was doing the same thing with the stock text messaging app and it wasn't even set to save anything so I don't think it had to do with large files or anything.
I set it up as new so I didn't bring a bunch of junk from my other phone and I don't really have all that many apps. I don't use the Facebook app and I don't have any problems at all with battery draining. The battery is awesome!
But I do wish I could figure out the lag. It doesn't make any sense that it should take so much time to open up my text messages. I would be tempted to blame it on the fact that I told it not to delete them anymore but like I said, the V10 was doing it and that one was deleting everything all the time!
I have costumized every aspects to get as close as to what I am used to and no luck at all.. I really tried to give this phone shot.. But just not for me..

Ok, I get it. But why not give OrvDrive's rom a try since you are rooted? Can't hurt. His rom has the least complications of the others, not to bash them in any way. I appreciate the effort of all devs and know that behind the scene they are working together to some degree.
If you do find a better new phone, let me know. I might switch too.

Well good luck man hope it all works out for you. The no external memory support and the ridiculous price point for the pixel is why I didn't choose it.
To be honest I would not be using the v20 if a workable modern Samsung Note were out but we are about 6 months out for that and my v10 got the dreaded boot loop so I had to have a phone. Pixel is too expensive for what it offers, Apple is a scumbag company that I absolutely do not support and the s series from samsung doesn't interest me.
I am a big fan of removable batteries too despite not really using a phone long enough to need to replace the battery but I love aftermarket battery packs. LG is the only one to offer this and it looks like it might be the final high end model to feature this (the g6 looks to be water proof)

I was skeptical about the pixel.. But I'll tell you this..just the pure android and smoothness of a pixel phone alone is worth it.. I had never run into a single issue with that phone. Always butter smooth and never had a fc on any apps

Zero lag here. 3 months in. I'm using the H990DS model with no bloatware.
I also find the camera to be great. Love the wide angle lens as well. Not sure what you're smoking..

Camera great?. I s voted one of the worst camera of 2017 based on consumer..
Not sure why you think the camera takes poor quality pictures. This was taken with the wide angle camera (which most people think is generally terrible) in super low light, in situations where most phones would fail.
I'm also not sure what's bad about the UI? There are now a dozen or so themes that theme the actual system ui, and a trillion different launchers to theme your icons and app launcher.
No lag here. Over 60 user apps installed.
I use the second screen all the time for the quick flashlight access and for controlling Play Music when the phones docked in my car.
Your phone is either a dud, or you've got an app rampaging in the background somewhere.
Edit: ignore my broken TV. It somehow was cracked while wall mounting, and we handled it like it was the world's most valuable but brittle gem stone.
The second screen is practically a requirement for me after a year with the v10, the music controls without turning on the phone is such a fantastic feature along with the quick function shortcuts.
I am going to definitely miss it if the v series turns into a non removable battery phone or the note 8 grabs my attention.

Also, maybe its the ROM your using, there are a lot of factors that play a part.

Issues still present?

Hello, I have bought a second-hand XZ2, and it is arriving sometime next week. What I am worried about is that it has the defects and issues that plague most XZ2 units;
- Slow SD card read speeds, in some threads I read it has an absolutely abysmal 20 mb/s read speeds. It is the end of September 2018, did Sony manage to release any updates that make the SD card speeds normal again?
- Screen sensitivity issues. I hear some people have problems with playing FPS on their phone with screen sensitivity. I don't normally care much about that since I don't play FPS but I am paying quite a bit of money and I expect a product with no such issues.
- Speaker issues; I heard many units come with defective speakers. Likely not, since the guy advertised his phone as mint condition, but if mine does come with speaker issues it is going right back.
Thanks all.
I hope you get at least a revision 2 smartphone.
I have no speaker issues, a slow sdcard and touchscreen issues in battery saver mode.
Btw.
You need to ask this in the Questions Topic, not the Guide Topic.
What do you mean, revision 2?
Also sorry, I am new. I will post into the questions topic next time.
Edit: I did some research. Looks like revision x 2-4 are the good versions. But the seller never showed me any pictures of the outside of the box (not really sure why he would do that) but I will ask him about it. I got the H8296 global version with 6 GB of RAM.

Me too.
H8296 Rev 2 and I flashed H8266 on it.
The H8296 doesn't have a working fingerprint reader does it? It probably won't really affect me if I get get a good unit (revision 2+). But it is a shame.

I can use my one .
I thought fingerprint reader was enabled only on US versions? I got the 6 GB international for the extra RAM but if it also has finger print reader then I'll take it.
Still waiting on the seller to tell me what hardware revision the phone is.
I have Hong Kong h8296 and it has fully functional finger print reader.
Well that is certainly a relief then. Also the seller got back to me and said it was a revision 3, so I should be getting a solid unit. Will report back on how it runs.

I thought this was the first Xperia that DOES have a working fingerprint reader in the US (due to the new placement of it). I have the 8296, but flashed US 8266 fw and my reader is fine.

I dunno about that, the earlier xperias like xz/xz1 etc had the fingerprint scanner not enabled, but by flashing a non US ftf like German or Russian ftf enabled the fingerprint scanner

Right, I had to do that on my XZ and others. The whole issue had something to do with the scanner being placed in the power button and some copyright in the US. The XZ2 was the first not to have be disabled due to the new placement. (I'm not 100% on the reason, but I recall reading it somewhere.) Anyway, the XZ2 fingerprint scanner is active for all, no hoops to jump through. :highfive:

Probably because of IMEI.
I've got HW revision 2. Can confirm that touch sensitivity issue has been gone since the last update. No issues with my speaker at least.
For SD Card, I can't test since i dont have one. Sorry.
Received my unit today. First impressions are positive; the device is in good condition. Seems like the touch sensitivity issues are gone, and the speakers work fine.
However the SD card read speeds are still horrible. I am getting around 15 mb/s read speeds with A1 SD benchmark using a Sandisk Ultra rated for 80 mb/s. This could be a potential deal-breaker for people who use their SD cards extensively, especially since 64 gb might not be enough for people nowadays. A shame, really, since my V20 which is two years old still quadruples that result with the same exact card. Sony really needs to get their **** together when it comes to things like this.
Excusing the SD card issue, which really pisses me off, the phone seems fine. There are definitely better options out there, but for about $400 you can get yourself a nice unit and pocket the extra 300 or so it would take to get a Samsung or something. The fingerprint reader location is not too bad; you'll get used to it. The dedicated hardware button for the camera is nice, but a gimmick since the camera itself could use some improvement. The screen is only good; can't compare to Samsung but certainly holds its own. One of the main reasons I feel people buying this phone is for the software experience; it is definitely better than most other skins (Samsung, LG especially) and feels really nice; lightning animations and buttery all around, although there are a few stutters here and there. The only real downside to this phone (besides the horrible SD card reader) is the lack of a headphone jack; normally I wouldn't complain, but this is a SONY. The guys that brought us the Walkman can't bring us a damn headphone jack in their flagship phone? C'mon.

I get that. It doesn't cause an issue but I see it in the trail as I swipe.
Ok so I did some more experimenting with drawing apps to see if there were still sensitivity issues, and I did notice deadzones on the very edges of the screen. It is a bit annoying to know that the issue still exists but at least it won't really affect me in daily use.
Also I use gboard and typing is still a bit janky. In fact I'm typing this on the XZ2 right now and it sometimes does not register certain keys or multiple consecutive backspace presses. For me it is ok since I don't type that fast on a phone keyboard but now that I've tested it a bit more I definitely notice it.

Me. So far. 128gb/8g burgundy. Find it runs normally. Smooth, battery seems OK.
Famous last words
It speaks volumes about the S22 Exynos devices that there is a thread with the title, "Exynos users without problems?".
it's common , problems to be heard first ... but let's see how many users don't...
GSMArena released their review of the S22+, they said Exynos performs great but its inconsistent and they assume its software. Looking at everyone's phone they are on January patch, so I would hope there is a big one coming this week.

It will work out fine you'll see.. I'm waiting for mine on Saturday and I know I'll be facing some stuff when I starting it
Had mine 24 hours and it's brilliant, no lag, great battery life already (40% = 4 SOT) and still learning, S-Pen is very responsive, not felt any heat of the device even playing Mario Kart DS in an emulator it was chill.
I know people want Samsung to fail, it seems they spend a lot of time in Samsung forums searching for issues to highlight but XDA has become toxic. 50% of the people posting in S21U and S22U don't have the phone and just waste time hating on it and posting issues they found online about it with zero experience of it. This is not the XDA I used to spend time in talking about ROMs, modding phones or just ways to get more out of your phone. Now all I see is why that phone of this chipset is crap, how bad battery is, how manufacturers will rue the day they dropped SD Cards, and unlocking breaking the warranty is bad. I'm done with the toxicity, enjoy you trolls and I hope you all one day find your phone so that you too can be positive rather than tearing other peoples choices down.
I am going to request my account be deleted and enjoy the phone I chose.

I am going to request my account be deleted and enjoy the phone I chose.

or people constantly nagging on how the SPEN is on the "wrong" side lol. I feel this post because I remember joining this forum way back with really old devices just for the fun of rooting. it has now become a place for trolls, haters, marketing experts, etc. Would be sad to see someone from the old school leave.
To clarify this post reason is to understand what is really going on. I have been waiting for the phone day after day and I have definitely been influenced by what I read here. But I really believe that after the first upgrade everything will be adjusted...
I use it for 2 days. No problem yet. My biggest fear was recording the calls. But call recording works perfectly. Battery average, but I believe it will improve.

I had something similar with my N20U and S21U when they came out, S21U was horrible the first two days, and Samsung pushed about 4 updates in 15 days for that device

Yeah, I remember that.
Today I've received my 12/256. So far so good. No fingerprint glitch, no YouTube w/WQHD+ glitch
Having issues setting up Samsung pay+, I try to add my natwest card to it as my first card but it says its already added. I can't add natwest card to normal Samsung pay because natwest doesn't support it
Got my S22U/Exy/512gb on thursday, feels a bit sluggish in some applications, like in the early days of counterstrike, when you accidentally had software rendering activated instead of 3dfx/opengl/direct3d .... some of you might know what I mean here
some further bugs:
the screen turns completely black if I scroll up or down a website, that might not have been completely loaded or has some gifs or embededded videos in them. If you scroll fast, you might have turned the screen off so that you have to turn the device back on with a button or double-tap on the screen (even this might not work then) , if you scroll slower and the screen turns black, it might come back to normal if you stop the scrolling.
very strange behaviour, hope(and pretty sure ) samsung does update very soon.....
if not... i'm all in for a root and custom rom
Mine is laggy and my s-pen keeps jamming too!
Absolutely fine so far. I have the 512 GB one. The battery seems to be going a little bit faster than the S21 Ultra, but nothing too bad

Hi. I will get mine in a few hours What are you using for call recording? Built-in or an app?
Given that only a few users report this and the lines remind me of bad VRAM overclocks on desktop GPUs, I assume it has something to do with silicon lottery and that some RDNA chips are pushed too far. I think Samsung will release an update either bumping the voltage (probably not) or reduce its clocks slightly to fix it.
It is quite likely that it is hardware related since with software there should be more devices being affected at least in a particular use case. But nothing software wouldn't be able to fix. Please note that this only an assumption (!)
