[Q] New SD Card isn't working - General Questions and Answers

I just recently bought a new 4gb card from eBay, I backed up my old card to the PC and put the new card in, mounted it with ums to the pc, and trasfered files, as soon as I disconnected it all the files got removed, sometimes some of them partially saved. I didn't have that problem with my old 2gb card so I'm not sure if the trouble is related with my phone or rom or the SD card. There are no errors in the transfer and all the time it's still open for transfer the files are still there.

Help please? :\

Bump, can anyone help?

Help in 2 minisd pls

[SOLVED] nvm
I hope you mean MicroSD. MiniSD won't fit.
Turn your phone off, put your current card in your computer, make a folder called backup and cut and paste all the files on your current card into that folder. Then plug your new card in, cut and paste all the files from the backup folder into your new card. Should work perfectly.

That would work if he's on a Linux/Mac system. Windows cannot mount a ext2 partition without extra software.

nandroid doesn't touch the sdcard... only the internal nand (hence the name nandroid)

SD cards larger than 2GB are exclusively SDHC. Since SDHC doesn't come in Mini flavour, i'm guessing he meant Micro

Are you formatting the sd card as fat32? by default windows will pick NTFS.. worth a look. The phone needs Fat32.
What type of MicroSD card is it?
And where did you get it from?
Is there any possibility it could be a fake? So actually a low capacity card like 2GB (or lower) pretending to be 32GB?
I used to have a program which would write to every sector on the card and prove it's actual size, very handy for checking cards from ebay, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called!
Make sure you are not quick-formatting the card and that you have set FAT32 as the file system
If you can copy files to the card on a computer and then use them, the card is ok. Maybe try the files on a second computer to double-check.
You can also try filling up the card with data... I once bought a 4GB card and only 2GB were working :|

[Q] Brand new SDHC card, what to do next?

Hi guys,
I just bought a brand new Samsung SDHC card to replace my old stock one. Is there anything special that people recommend doing when inserting a brand new card? Format in the phone or external reader? Format with specific cluster size?
I guess my real question is when and what to copy from my original SD card if there is anything special?

on HD2, that wasn't compulsory...unless using ext..
Thanks guys,
Compulsory is a strong word, but obviously it helps. I'm getting the card tonight I hope, it should be waiting for me when I get home from work. I'll format it in the PC first and then another format in the phone and start copying files after that...

(did a lot of googling tried many formatters none worked)
Try these:
1. Unmount SD card in your device, and mount it again.
2. Connect it to a PC using a card reader, and run CHKDSK.
3. Format the SD Card in a digital camera or a Nokia phone.

Hy,
No,i didn't know that this is necessary. What file system is needed? NTFS,Fat32 or is there a Special System for Android
Do i need a special Software to format the Card or can it be done with Windows?

It can be done with Windows. I don't know if this will work or not, but just play around a bit. Maybe Samsung formats it for their phones only ?
