[Q] How can I tell if CROMI-X is installed? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
I had used GooRomManager to flash cromi-x odexed on my TF700T. I was watching it load then my screen went blank for the longest time. I then left it for about 1/2hr. Turned on the device and proceeded with the system setup. After the setup completed, I see everything the same (themes)... All apps are loading but I no longer see the SU super account icon.
How can I tell if I have Cromi-xenogenesis 4.4 ODEX installed?
Thx.

First, you need to install custom recovery TWRP to flash cromi-X. To check go into settings --> about tablet ->look at build number.

I believe TWRP is installed. I used GooManger to flash cromi. It took me to another screen that showed me TWRP was flashing the system. My build number is J0P4OD.WW_eoad-10.6.1.14.4-20130329 but I believe this is what I had before I unlocked/rooted.

Download "rebooter" app (red circle) from the market, open the app then select boot to recovery, now you should be in TWRP recovery, select install then pick cromi zip file and do it from here.

Ok thanks. This method gave me way more options to customize before the flash occurs. I will post back with the final results. Again, thank you for your time in addressing my issue.

For the past half hour, in TWRP it sasy "Updating partition details..." Nothing else happening. I can get back to the main menu (Install, Backup, Restore, Wipe etc. How long does this process usually take?

If the back button has already popped up then it is complete. It don't verify it being complete on the text. The back button just appears, or should.

adb "protocol failure" and ROM woes

So, much of the stuff in this and other threads has been a tremendous help. I did pretty much exactly what OP did in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779080.
I was having trouble getting my computer to recognize the usb drivers. I was able to finally get ADB to see the tablet by following this thread., Now, when I go to push the stock rom, I get an error message of "Protocol Failure" in cmd.
Any ideas?
I am trying the Universal Naked Drivers, as I have other android devices. I'm shooting in the dark with that though.
I noticed it says adb out of date. Have you tried updating the sdk?
Any chance you have a HTC phone with htc sync installed on the PC? Read that adb version isn't compatible
same thing happened to me using windows. i tried it using ubuntu and i was able to successfully adb push the rom to the tf300 without any problems.

I tried ubuntu and ADB worked perfectly. I was able to go back to .30 stock.
Now though, whenever I try to flash ASUS-HYDRO 3.7 all I get is a bootloop. I am following each step verbatim.
when you flashed the base did you get any bootloops? the bootloop is probably caused because maybe you flashed both the base and the update at the same time. you were supossed to to flash the base and boot into it then flash the update after the base booted atleast once.

That was the base, not the update. I also get hardlocked at boot if I try with CleanROM.
The only ROM that works is Stock .30. I have also verified that I am running stock after booting in stock, checking kernel version.
Ive tried wiping system multiple times before installing, Ive tried cache, and Dalvik. I also factory reset. Same results every go. Ive redownloaded the zips just incase as well.
which version of CWM are you using?
I had many problems with the touch or TWRP.
If you are not already on it, try 5.5.0.4

I'm using 5.5.0.4.
I go from this stage, install CWM 5.5.0.4 via fastboot, and let it reboot. I restart again in CWM and follow the instructions listed on the ASUS-Hydra page.
-1.you must be unlocked (bootloader) and must have CWM.

-2 reboot to recovery

-4.wipe data factory reset

-5. choose install zip

-6. install and reboot

After doing this, the tablet boots to the screen that says This Device is unlocked, and has ASUS in the middle. It sits there for a couple minutes, and then reboots, repeating over and over.
I eventually force shutdown, reenter CWM, and flash .30 back on it, and then fastboot CWM back on. I go through the setup process with .30, and everything works with stock, including wifi and camera.

[Q] Manually update to JB 4.2 w/ unlocked bootloader. No root

Hello,
I have JB 4.1.1. I'm trying to upgrade to JB 4.2. I have unlocked the bootloader and been trying to root with no success (I've tried many ways). Now I'm trying to upgrade to JB 4.2 but the tablet won't boot on recovery mode. When I try to boot on recovery mode I get the laying android robot with the red exclamation mark.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!
Asus Infinity TF700t
This is your stock recovery. You need to install a recovery. You can do this using the ABD tool in the Dev section. After you have a better recovery, which I suggest at least TRWP 2.4.4, Flash the zip in the stock 4.2.1 thread that has TWRP 2.5 and 4.2.1 Boot loader. 4.1.1 will run on the 4.2.1 boot loader. After that then flash the stock 4.2.1 in the same thread. It is pre rooted. This is all if your unlocked.

Unzip the file then rename the unzipped file to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip" (without the quote), then copy it to the root of your micro sdard, boot into recovery by hold volum down and power button, when you see the white text on the screen let go both buttons, then hit volume up twice, it should flash the firmware file

The guy with the exclamation mark ISSSSS your recovery. It is not a full interface. It will only flash a rom if there is one available, if it is not, it will do what you stated. Unzip the file downloaded from ASUS website once after downloading, then put the zip on your Micro SD card and rename it EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip. restart going into recovery and it should flash it.

Once it has booted up and you have completed your set up you will notice that you won't have root so use Motochopper to root and then download Goomanager and install trwp 2.5.0.0 recovery should you want it.

download Goomanager from the market, launch the app, then tab on the 3 little boxes on top right hand side, then select install recovery script. That's it. You should have TWRP (recommended). BTW, you must be unlocked in order to install any custom recovery or rom/kernel.

New to TF700, looking for help

I had a TF300T that I was unhappy with due to lagging/performance issues. I got a TF700T only to find similar issues which are now driving me to look into a custom ROM. It appears that a ROM by sbdags is the way to go but I have no idea which one. Can anybody give me a general overview of what the differences are between:
CROMi-X
CROMi-Xenogenesis
CROMBi-kk
I'm looking for something that is fast, stable and easy to update/maintain.
Thanks...Scott

CROMi-X is the same thing as CROMi-Xenogenesis. I recommend you start with this one as it is rock stable and fast. It uses the latest official Asus stock firmware as its base - JB 4.2.1. Grab CROMi-X 5.4 :good:
CROMBi-kk is our new experimental cyanogen based rom. If you like bugs and random things - flash this!
Yep CROMI-X is the answer to your need. Read carefully the first posts of its thread to understand how to install the rom and its prerequisites (very important) and then your slow-and-laggy stock rom will be forgotten and you will have a fast tab.

I've been reading up on the process and it appears that I need to downgrade from .10 to .8 in order for motochopper to root the device so that I can install TWRP. Is this correct or is there another way to install TWRP on an unlocked but not rooted device?
If I do need to downgrade, is it as simple as downloading the image from the Asus site, extracting the ZIP to /sdcard and rebooting or do I need to boot in some special way to tell the device to flash the downloaded image that I saved at /sdcard?
Thanks...Scott

No you don't need to downgrade as you don't need root
You can't install TWRP without unlocking.
So
1. Unlock
2, Install TWRP
3. Flash ROM
4. Enjoy a rooted fast device.
More reading. @berndblb has written a great guide

PS: I'm having a lot of fun with CROMBi-KK, but man: CROMi-X on the TF701? Now THAT is sweet!
I managed to get CROMi-X installed but was surprised that all my apps and data were present after I rebooted. I assumed I'd be starting with a completely clean system. I did select the wipe cache options when flashing. Is there a way to reset the system to be a completely clean system with only the apps/data installed by the CROMi-X installer? Normally I'd do a "Wipe System" but from what I've read you're not supposed to do that with non-stock ROM's.

Thanks...Scott

Congrats!
With a custom recovery installed you do not want to wipe from 'Backup & Restore' in Settings or do 'Wipe Data" from the bootloader menu - you use the recovery to do it.
Enter TWRP, choose 'Wipe' and swipe the button. This will wipe all your apps but not your /data/media/ folder where your personal stuff is stored. TWRP calls this a factory wipe and it is a good idea to do when you switch roms (also called a "clean install").
If you want to erase everything on your data partition you would go to 'Advanced' and perform a Format Data. You may have to re-flash the rom after formatting data - anything installed to /data during the flash would be gone too.
Dirty flash: Flashing a rom with only wiping cache and Dalvik. Ok to do for flashing the latest and greatest update to your rom
Clean Install: Using the Factory Wipe in TWRP before flashing a new rom or major upgrade. Also helpful to do every once in a while to clear out the cobwebs. I do it about every 10 flashes
Format Data: The nuclear option and rarely used unless you have corrupted data or problems noobody knows how to fix
Familiarize yourself with the Backup/Restore function in TWRP and get Titanium Backup Pro. Makes the above a breeze

Although I managed to get everything working, the one thing I didn't understand about the installation instructions for this was that you first needed to install TWRP and then run Scott's installation batch file which seems to overwrite that TWRP with another recovery.blob. What's the point of installing two recovery images?

Mhhhh - could you point me to where it says that?
Because you're right: That would not make sense [emoji12]

UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS
Start by choosing the scenario below which reflects how your tablet is currently configured.
Scenario One
Factory Stock Android Operating System & Bootloader (Asus 10.6.1.x)
Steps
1. If you haven’t yet, unlock and root your TF700 by following these instructions.
2. Install the latest version of Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) - TWRP XDA Thread
Download and install the Scott's TF700T Recovery Install Tool. Once downloaded, extract the files on your Windows PC, connect your tablet to the computer and run the Recovery Install Tool.bat file.
3. Skip Scenario Two and Jump to the Installing CROMi-X section.

Unelss it is trying to say "In order to install TWRP, run Scott's TF700T Recovery Install Tool"
but that's not how I read it since there is a link to "TWRP XDA Thread" where it says to install TWRP.
Like I said, I got it figured out but the way the instructions are written/formatted it was confusing to me as a first time tablet flasher (that sounds weird  )

It is and that's how I read it. That was a common problem with my ex: I said one thing, she heard something entirely different....[emoji89]

[Q] no more taskbar after intalling Cromi-x 5.4

I installed Cromi-x 5.4 on my TF700 yesterday and after the reboot I had no more taskbar and system tray.
I have no way of navigating on my tablet anymore.
I did do a back up but was wondering if it is possible to fix the problem
thx

Then it hasn't installed properly as the systemui.apk has crashed if you have neither.
How did you install it? What on top of?

I used TWRP 2.7.1.1 and I had Asus stock JB4.2.1, I did do a factory reset swipe in TWRP before flashing the ROM.
I did flash my backup to show you the info.

You have a statusbar in that screenshot What exactly is the problem? Do you mean the little pop up notification bar?
Just reboot - it sometimes gets stuck.

Ok, you didn't understand me, I will try again.
After flashing Cromi-x and having no status bar, I restore my original ROM with my TWRP backup that I did before I flashed Cromi-x.
Then I was able to take a screenshot of my original ROM to show you. If you notice on the screenshot it is not Cromi-x cause it did not work for me. I went back to stock ROM.
I noticed that I have WW and I used US on the install, I read that it wouldn't make a difference but can it be the problem? I did try to flash Cromi-x 5.4 twice and rebooted several times with the same result, no taskbar.
Is this normal?

Try redownloading it again. There is no virus in the package I can assure you.
Before you flash it make sure you turn on signature verification in TWRP. My zip files are signed - that means if anyone has tampered with them or if they have been corrupted in anyway TWRP will not flash it.
Maybe you have a corrupted download?
